Command H  shortcut...

Unless my mind blanked out, I'm sure I was able to use Command H to hide the selection until recently. Very frustrating to not be able to hide it (I'm using an adjustment layer for the smallest thing as a work around.) Can't figure out what I did to make it stop working.
In the menu where you make your own shortcuts, there doesn't seem to be an option to set "hide selection." It's not a menu, palette or tool item. Unless I'm overlooking it?
I'm hoping someone can advise me how to get it working again (or tell me I'm losing it and the shortcut is something else, or never was.
Thanks!
Peggy

Wonderful! I don't know how it got turned off, it wasn't changed to something else when I was adding my own shortcuts. I missed it because it was under "Show > Selection Edges" and, being literally minded, I was looking for "Hide > selection edges" !
Anyhow, I'm so glad to have that choice back and am throwing handfuls of cyber thank yous your way.
Peggy
Sorry it took awhile to respond. I haven't checked my email for awhile.

  • ITunes 10.0.1 no longer has Command-R shortcut to open root file of a song!

I can not believe that iTunes 10.0.1 no longer has the Command-R shortcut to open root file of a song! I use this function constantly as I am a television music supervisor who frequently emails or FTP sends music cues from composers and artists of mine to my tv shows. I use this to function to bring music cues into Toast, to see how I have files titled, etc. If anyone at Apple can log this as a potential fix for a future update, there is important functionality in this for some of us! Thank you.

Yes, much thanks dknightd! I too use it all the time & I thought they just got rid of it; they probably changed it to make room for a new shortcut... odd that they just changed it all the sudden like that, without replacing it with something more often used. I guess we'll just have to wait & see! Anyway, thanks for the post about the new shortcut!

  • Command key shortcuts don't work anymore in Safari since upgrade to Yosemite!

    Hi,
I recently upgraded the MacOSX to Yosemite. Since this moment Safari doesn't work properly anymore, because the command key shortcuts are out of order.
    Cmd + Q
    Cmd + C
    Cmd + V
    Cmd + X
These are now the key shortcuts I've noticed that aren't working anymore. Other apps (a part from Firefox) don't seem to have these problems.
In the meantime I have to use the mouse cursor and choose from the menu bar.
Apple support wasn't able to help me! They just gave me the advice force quit Safari and restart it while pushing the ALT-key. Result: Nothing!
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind regard,

    MacBook Air

That is rather odd if they are all visible as shortcut commands.
Here are some more tests to do…
    1) Disable all your Safari Extensions & retest (in Safari Preferences).
    2) Logout of the account (from the Apple menu). At the login window enter your password & hold shift as you click the login button. Keep it held until the Desktop has become usable. This disables 'User login items' - retest. Logout after testing.
    3) Try a safe boot… OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Does it still happen in safe mode? This disables third party extensions & some inessential Apple system extensions - things will not be normal, however the Mac should be 'functional', test as much as you can.
Post the results of those here, it may give us a better idea where to look.

I have a new iMac running OS 10.9.  When I use the Command S shortcut in any of my apps (numbers, text edit etc), it no longer saves the active document it speaks it instead.  How can I revert to the save shortcut function?

    have you looked in
system preference->Dictiation & speech if it's assigned there?
or system preference->accessibility if it's assigned there?

  • Command-5 shortcut for 5-star rating photos in iPhoto not working

When I go to 5-star rate a photo in iPhoto using the default Command-5 shortcut, the shortcut no longer works.
The Command-1, Command-2, Command-3, Command-4 shortcuts work for (1-star through to 4-star ratings), but for some reason Command-5 no longer works???
There is nothing wrong with my "5" on my keyboard.
I went to my local Apple Store and spoke to a Genius. He said that there is probably a mistake in the iPhoto code, and that the mistake would only be corrected after someone mentioned to apple the problem.
I would like to find out if there is any way firstly to rectify the problem myself? or alternatively how to get in touch with Apple to let them know there is a problem, so that they can fix it by the next software update.
    Thanks
    Mac specs:
    MacBook 5, 1
    Mac OS X (10.6.2)
    iPhoto '09 version 8.1.1 (419)

Ty trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

  • Command - C shortcut not working

Ok when i press command and C over a highlighted phrase it doesnt work, the copy shortcut isnt working but pasting and all of the other things are working fine. HELP!
    Message was edited by: gchhour

I'm having more or less the same problem (was first stricken with it about two weeks ago).
Clicking Copy in Edit menu does the trick, ie copies, but the Command C shortcut, in any application mysteriously and infuriatingly brings up some document in Adobe reader.
In addition, it may by pertinent, this problem first manifest itself when the keyboard shortcut I had assigned under the dictionary app Ultralingua( nothing to do with Command C) also brought up the same uncalled for document in Adobe Reader.
I have tried various things, including repairing permission, but to no avail.
The problem (both of them actually) is driving me nuts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Command - Tab shortcut not working

My command - tab shortcut stops working after a random period of time and I have to restart my MacBook to get it working again. Any idea what could be causing this keyboard shortcut to fail? I tried killing and re-running the Dock but that does not fix it. A refuse to reboot my Mac everytime it happens (this is not Windows...) Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

Actually I just researched this further and found a solution here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1830738&tstart=0
+Open the activity monitor and look for something like the "ScreenSaverEngine" - the process should be marked as "not responding" (written in red)+
+End this process and Command+Tab and other shortcuts will work again!+

  • "Command I" shortcut in Preview - designated for show/hide toolbar AND show inspector?

In the Mac Preview App, I tried using the the 'command I' shortcut to show/ hide the toolbar, but it brings up the inspector instead. Is the shortcut is designated for both these functions?

    Actually the Toolbar hide/show isn't "cmd i" it's "cmd shift |"
That little key on the far right edge between the "delete" and "return" keys. The same key that has "\" as the main function.

  • Command field ShortCut

    Hi guys
Can anyone tell me how i can locate all the command field shortcuts in SAP for example like PDF! or &reset_excel?
I have tried CTRL + / but that doesn't seem to bring anything up.
    Any help appreciated
    thanks

    Hello Robbert,
In the Sapgui, there is a buffer in the registry which keeps the last 16 entries. (these can be called with the down-arrow key)
In the registry they are stored in the
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAPGUI Front\SAP Frontend Server\Code
    registry branch.

  • Command+Delete Shortcut!

    Hello,
I have noticed that the command+delete shortcut does not work on Mac OS Server, is this a normal behavior or is it just my system. Is there a way to set it up?
Appreciate any help on this matter.
    Nawaf

    Camelot:
    Thank you for your response!
I do not have thirdparty software, I am aware of, that is over-riding short-cut commands in the system. Regarding the system preferences, are you refering to "Keyboard Shortcuts?"
As far as I know, the "Keyboard Shortcut" pereferences does not have an option for Move to Trash to tamper with? However, under the File menu, in Finder, I see that the move to Trash action has the correct shortcut, command+delete. Unless I am missing something here, I am not sure where else to look for such preferences. This is really annoying!
I hope there is away to reset it!!!!

  • Command +1 shortcut was set to "select red channnel" in the latest Photoshop CC 2014 by default.

I updated photoshop to the newest CC 2014 and then shortcut, command+1 became "select red channel" which was zoom to 100% in the CC. It seems like command +1 shortcut is unchangable... is there any solution to put it back to zoom to 100%??

I would wonder about your keyboard settings, (it's not bluetooth, is it) but it was working normally before. My default setting is US
Well, I can suggest resetting Preferences  Hold down cmd-opt-shift while starting PS and answer yes to deleting the prefs.
    I hope that clears it.
If not a reinstall is in order.
I'm running CC 2014 on a mid-2009 Macbook on Yosemite and I don't see this problem.

Hi i been try to minimise few app like safari,Ical etc etc from the fullscreen view but didn't manage to find any solution!! With the command   M shortcuts didn't work...any help???

To make a screen full screen, you click on the arrows in the upper right corner.  To minimize, move your cursor all the way to the upper right corner of your desktop--give it a second--a symbol will appear that lets you "reverse" the action and minimize the window.  Hope I'm explaining this correctly.

  • Touch commands and Shortcuts

Attempting to search the Apple site and this discussion board for a possible listing of the Touch commands and shortcuts for the Macbook (example: saw a Mac Genius zoom with touchpad finger gesture)- curious about other possible commands..

Touchpad gestures should be in your User Guide for the computer assuming you have one with a touchpad trackpad. As far as I'm aware that's only available on the MacBook Pro but according to your information you have a MacBook. Only the latest MBP model supports gestures on the trackpad. These models only run Leopard. Were they available for the MB, you would need a current model with Leopard, but you are using Tiger. Configuring your trackpad for scrolling is done using the Keyboard and Mouse preferences.
As for keyboard shortcuts: Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • Command + T shortcut doesn't work on Mac

Using Firefox 5.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The Command + T shortcut for opening a new tab doesn't work. I didn't try all the keyboard shortcuts, but among those ones I frequently use this is the only shortcut that doesn't work.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies. However I think each of them misses the point. I realize that I should have given ( even ) more information, so sorry about that. I will try and do that here.
It's about a link to a website like www.website.com ( is a fake name for example purposes!! ). It has worked on both my PC and laptop!! Somewhere along the way ( cannot quite remember when ) there was an update of some kind on my laptop, that apparantly hasn't occured on my PC ( yet ), that has caused the link to 'break'. Therefore I suspect it's a setting matter of some kind, but cannot figure out which one and where to (re)set. Also because the problem stays when I try to delete and recreate the link, also by dragging it from the website to the desktop.
Hope this addition give you sufficient information. If not, don't hesitate to ask further questions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Command+1 shortcut doesn't work in iTunes 7?

During the years of having iTunes 5 & 6, I used to have those keyboard shortcuts like command+1, command+2 to show the main window of iTunes and Equalizer. This function is really helpful when you choose one song to play, then close the iTunes window to save the space on desktop, then use command+1 to show the main window of iTunes again when you need it. Really convenient.
But since I updated the iTunes 7 yesterday, I sadly found out that the key stroke combination of command+1 doesn't work anymore. Now every time when you need the iTunes window to show up, you have to click the iTunes 7 icon on the dock again. And same as the command+2 for equalizer. Since iTunes 7 erased the equalizer icon on the main pane in the corner right below, this is really not so fast as before to get those windows showed when you need them.
This issue is really unlikely to happen because I checked the new help topics of iTunes 7, there still are the entries of command+1/2 in the help topics, but they just do not work!!! Is that a new bug of iTunes 7?
Anyone has any idea about solving this problem? Or did anyone found the new keyboard shortcuts? Thanks in advance!!!
