As you already knew, no, you cannot create a new iCloud account from anything but the above devices.

I have an IMac and opened an email that may have been infected with a virus. How do I check my IMac for a possible virus? What does PPC mean?

You would be better posting this in the Lion forum.

It's possible you email contained a virus, but unlikely.  There haven't been any reports of email viruses effecting the mac.
My understanding is the Apple provides security updates for all malware including viruses.
There have been reports of a --
    -- Phoney virus checking program
    -- flash malware.
ppc -- Power PC.   An older computer processor used by Apple.  Last Mac shipped with PPC was in 2006.
I've read about two virus checking programs for the mac. One is clamav.  The rest are either junk or malware.

hi i am from ireland and moving to canada i want to take my apple imac is this possible or do i need a new power supply?

A gentle reminder.   Unless you will be permanently resident in Canada and have a Canadian based banking/credit card arrangement you may not be able to buy from the Mac App store or iTunes.

  • Preview "tandem" command. Is it possible?

I am comparing two PDF versions of a document. I put them side by side on a big monitor with Preview, and would like to be able to change pages synchronously on both, using a kind of a  "tandem" command.
    Is it possible?
    Thx for your attention, Paulo

There is not a built-in setting for opening new "unrelated" tabs anywhere except at the end of the tab bar.
Various add-on authors have tackled this request over the years. It's not really clear to me which of these extensions still work, but you might check the reviews and see what you think. (I haven't tried these myself)

  • BI-IP with WAD using enhanced SAVE_DATA command. It is possible?

    Hi,
I have a BI-IP Planning application based on WAD and deployed in WEB. My customer is asking to add some enhanced functionality to the SAVE button (SAVE_DATA command in WAD). The basic idea here is to extend forward for a simple validation procedure just before save data into the planning infocube.
The validation consists just in make a single arithmetic sum by testing 100% for the weekly contribution percentages (input ready). I mean (weeks) W1, W2, W3, W4 for a month. Percentages entries given by user are 25, 25, 25, 30.
IF SUM(Wi) > 100 THEN ERROR (dont let to save data)
ELSE THEN SUCCESS (let to save data).
At the same time, this kind of validation allows to add some basic rule to don't exceed the contribution margin for the immediate upper level...
It is possible to do this? Any experienced comments doing this? any user_exit or enhancenments?
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
This is the procedure step by step that we have used to solve the req...
    1) Create the aggregation top-down level for sales units WEEKLY contributions (percentage).
    2) No filter used.
    3) Create the TYPE Formula Planning Function: VALIDATE CONTRIBUTIONS with condition 0VERSION = Plan/Active and Sales Route = ZVAR_ROUTE.
    4) Add the FOX Code to the formula as follows:
    FTBCH -> {KF, 0CALMONTH, 0CALWEEK, 0VOLUMEUNIT}.
    DATA CURRPER TYPE 0CALMONTH.
    DATA PERIOD TYPE 0CALMONTH.
    DATA CALWEEK TYPE 0CALWEEK.
    DATA NVALIDA TYPE F.
    NVALIDA = 0.
    CURRPER = VARV('ZIPM_MTHPLAN').
    FOREACH PERIOD, CALWEEK.
      IF PERIOD = CURRPER.
        NVALIDA = NVALIDA + {ZIP_CONT, PERIOD, CALWEEK, HL}.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFOR.
    IF NVALIDA <> 100.
MESSAGE E001(UPF) WITH 'ERROR: CCM PORCENTAJE SEMANAL NO ASIGNADO A 100%.'.
      EXIT.
    ENDIF.
This basically performs for each PERIOD and CALWEEK an accumulated value in order to summarize  the user data entry values. So IF validation is different 100% then will raise a message error direct to the end user interfase and stops the program logic otherwise continues with success.
    5) Build your ready-input query and WAD template as required and then put some web items like Data Provider, Analysis, SAVE / REFRESH and CANCEL button group.
    6) Go to the button group properties and select SAVE Command configuration then go to ACTION -> Command  and hit the button NEXT COMMAND.
    7) At the EDIT COMMAND LIST screen insert a new command VALIDATION and add your new planning function (VALIDATE CONTRIBUTIONS). By default you can see the SAVE_DATA command already there. You can execute process chains, standard and custom planning functions, planning sequences, etc ,etc....for this case when the SAVE_DATA command executes but you can also create your own commands and use it as well.
    8) Execute your WAD application from the URL web and test it.
    Hope this helps...

  • IMac Finder problem - possibly BootCamp issue

Hi all, AppleCare don't work on Sundays, so I'm getting a bit desperate!
My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) is up to date running Snow Leopard and has BootCamp installed running Windows XP. I tried to boot into the PC this morning and it looped back to the Mac. Now, I get no response from the Finder - I can't force-quit applications, none of the keyboard commands are working. The mouse will track around the screen, but I can't click on anything. All I can do is hard restart. I've tried booting it in safe mode, and get as far as the login screen, but the keyboard won't work so I can't enter the password (the mouse will track around the screen, but I can't click on anything). I tried changing the target disk to boot into the PC and it went back to the Mac again. I tried booting from a CD to reinstall the OS, and the computer just keeps booting without accessing the CD. When I took my finger off the "C" button, it booted to the Mac with no Finder at all.
    Any thoughts?

Oh, okay. Resetting the PRAM has done the trick. I hope.
    Pardon me...

  • I want to fit a SSD to my 21.5 3.06ghz mid 2010 IMAC; Is it possible to install the current 500gb sata drive into my older 20inch A1224 IMac?

My A1224 20 inch Imac has a damaged HD, so I am wondering if the 500 gb sata drive installed in my mid 2010 imac can be installed as I am looking to upgrade to SSD and would like to make use of the 'spare' HD.
If t.his is not possible can someone recommend the best drive to by for the older mac?
    Thanks

My recommendation for the older drive would be to use it to create a bootable backup, that way you would have 2 backups. Your basic Time Machine backup and a redundant (very good idea for backups!!!) bootable drive. All you need is an expensive enclosure which you can find for less than $30.

  • Triple display. no mirroring. imac 3 monitors. possible?

I am wanting to add a third VGA display to a media-purpose imac at my business.
    —example:
    (external 1) (internal) (external 2)
i do not want to mirror the third display.
    1. is this possible?
    2. what is the best way to accomplish it (what adapters/devices do i need)?
I already have a miniDisplay to VGA for the current external display.
I have looked at VGA splitters, but they only seem to support mirroring (external 1) and (external 2).
    All help appreciated.

  • IMac fried harddrive-possibly..any solutions?

    Hello all,
I have an intel iMac mid 2010' 19 inch (I think it is..)
Anyways, As I came back to my mac, (I put it to sleep the night before) I noticed the screen was stuck black..I tried to wake it, patiently waiting for atleast ten minutes, then I powered down (hitting the power button).
So I turn it back on, and it loads but then I notice after the apple came on and the loading circle, it stayed grey. I also noticed there were tiny lines to the bottom left of the cursor. So I reset the PRAM. No luck. I came accross an article that told me to do CMD+R. So I did it, and It worked, so this is how im typing this. So I went into disk utility, and erased all hard drives, (bootcamp WHICH I suspect there might've been a virus) So then I put in a Macbook ****MACBOOK**** Cd, because I lost my iMac CD. So I hit C, and then It came up, BUT, it was all distorted, and I couldn't load anything. I even repaired disk perms. in CMD + R. STILL, after that nothing, tried 5-10 times. Then I tried loading my windows side,
Nothing. Black screen, and then it restarted.  I'm very frustrated and if someone could help right now, it'd be fantastic.
    With many thanks,
    Noah.

Restart using Command R again, click Disk Utility and repair the hard drive, nt the permissions. If Disk Utility reports that it fixed something run it again until it reports that mo problems were found. Also note the SMART status in the lower part of the DU window, if it says anythng other than verified you have a problem. When DU is dine go back to the utilities screen and try to reinstall OS X.

  • Downgrading my iMacs firmware? Possible?

Is it possible to downgrade firmware?
The only reason I ask is because I installed the latest firmware update for my aluminum and glass iMac, but it never restarted itself successfully. My iMac is now stuck in a perpetual start up loop that reaches the gray Apple logo and spiny thing, but doesn't go beyond that point.
I reset my PRAM, and I got to the login screen, but when I clicked my user icon to log in, my system stalled, got the spiny beach ball and eventually had to force restart...
    Start up loop continues...
Booting from my install discs doesn't tell me anything, it freezes in Disk Utility, and Hardware Test says All Systems Go....
I mean, Geez... a firmware install going bad??? ***??

Booting from my install discs doesn't tell me anything
Actually, yes it will if instead of opening Disk Utility you open System Profiler from that same "Utilities" menu and check which Boot ROM Version you now have. If the new one installed, you will not be able to restore the old.
I mean, Geez... a firmware install going bad?
If one does not follow the instructions exactly, yes, that will be the result. It's not that unusual, thus the existence of a restoration procedure.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303364
Since you don't see the black screen, it seems that you aren't a candidate for the restoration, that your update never got very far into the installation, if at all. The fact that you hear the long tone is good, but what's the problem that's stopping it from continuing after that point? External devices connected? RAID?

  • MIGRATE FROM A POWER PC G5 TO A NEW IMAC - PROGRAMS & FILE - POSSIBLE?

I recall when I migrated from a Windows machine to a MAC years back I was able to move programs & files via (probably at that time) USB.
I want to buy a new IMAC & move everything from a 4 year old Power PC G5 without having to reinstall all programs &/or manually drag & drop files.
    Is this posisble?
I do have a LaCie HardDrive & have been using SuperDuper to back up everything since I had problems with ths machine months ago but I do admit I have cut down on this as I have over 700,000 files and the backups take hours & really slow machine down. Plus I notice the LaCie drive turns on even when it is not set up to do a back-up.
But mostly want to know fastest way to get everything form one machine to a new one.
There's software I have downloaded or can't find.
    Thanks.

You can use Migration Assistant which will come with your new machine, or you can use an ethernet cable and drag and drop what you need, or you can reverse clone from your SuperDuper backup.

  • Intel iMac Bluetooth problems - possibly a defective computer?

Hi there - we just got a new iMac and just took it out of the box to get it set up and the mosue and keyboard won't work with it. The bluetooth mouse will pair, but the connection keeps dropping. The keyboard won't pair at all. The bluetooth status icon on the screen altenately shows that it is not connected, that it is connected and that bluetooth is not available.
Has anyone else experienced this with a brand new iMac?
    Thanks

Does this basically means that NO BLUETOOTH connection is available between iPad2 and MacBookPro (5.5)?
Because I just posted a question since I don't seem to be able to pair the above mentioned devices: my MBP shows "pairing successful", whereas my iPad says "not connected" and doesn't even discover/"see" my MBP.
(not only the MBP, but my Mac-mini as well, although I set it to "discoverable"-my MBP sees the Mac-mini....)
If you know the answer, could you also explain why my iPad doesn't seem to "see" other devices that are discoverable like that example with the Mac-mini?
    Thank you very much!!!

  • Seeking Versa mount for imac 21.5, possible??

I am considering buying a 21.5 imac. However due to being short and visually impaired I really need to adjust the height of the imac to be proper for my eye level. To do this effectively I need to use a versa mount for monitor arm.
However, I was told only the 27 in. imac allow versa mounting. Any way to get a versa mount for the 21.5 imac without voiding my warranty?? If I cant, I will go get a macmini. I really wanted to use the OLED display and finally get rid of my 19in 20 yr old CRT. Help! Thanks
    meitnik

It uses a unique idea of attaching the VESA mount to the iMac utilizing a specially fabricated perforated nut & bolt for the cable passage through the stand.
Because the stand remains attached to the iMac it can be used as a small shelf under the Mac for storing a keyboard, a mouse or even a small external HDD.
