Command Key Zooms?

It seems that with the upgrade to Mavericks, when I hold the Command key down and try to Scroll, the screen enlarges.
I am trying to select certain files by using the Command key and I need to scroll without the screen doing this.
Is there a way to change this Command key behavior?
Thank you,
Scott

That option was enabled in Mac OS X Snow Leopard by default, but not in OS X Mavericks.
To disable it, open System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom, and untick the second option you can see in the System Preferences window.

  • Command Key Problems - can someone help?

Apple Wireless Keyboard: Command Key on right side does not work the same as the left command key. In CS4 Illustrator and Photoshop, I can't command ( - ) or (=) for zooming, but I can do so with left command key. These commands have now changed to the pen tool commands "add point" and "delete point". Not sure how this change happened, but I'm so bummed cuz I've used these commands for years, so not sure why they don't work anymore. They're my go-to commands! Also command 0 doesn't work on right side; only on left side. Another go to command (view - fit all).
I've scoured the web and posts for answers, but haven't found anyone with my specific problem of one command key working different from the other.
I've reset PRAM & SMC three times, removed and re-added in Bluetooth, along with trying a whole bunch of other suggestions.
The final solutions I can see is either getting used to stretching my fingers aukwardly across the keyboard to get my commands done, or get a new keyboard.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Nevermind. After hours of scouring... I figured it out. My **** command key doesn't work! Ahhhhh... It's like losing your keys then you find them in your pocket!
This keyboard was doomed from the start. The R button has caused me many backspaces and editing!

  • Command+SpaceBar (Zoom Tool) issues

So it's been many generations now that the Zoom tool shortcut hasn't worked for me. I'm wondering how many other people have this problem and if they have figured out how to fix it.
years ago I recall Apple making the dumb move of making +Space being a shortcut to Search, and I think that's when this stopped working. Disabling this function in OSX doesn't seem to bring back the Acrobat function properly. I cold care less about Spotlight. It's useless anyway, can't search worth a crap. So I've never had that short cut on anyway.
Currently to get the Zoom tool to appear, I have to press +Space many times together before the zoom tool correctly shows up. After doing this, to get it tom come back again only requires pressing the 2 together a couple times before it shows up.
I've had this problem for years now.
    Anyone else have this?
    Anyone fix this?
    Am I crazy?

No problem, I just found the same issue again.
I just found that there are TWO places to turn the spotlight keystroke off (and reset it). First in the keyboard pref I mentioned above and secondly at the bottom of the separate Spotlight Preference in System prefs. I turned it off in both places and now I don't have the problem anymore. I can still call spotlight by clicking the menubar, so no loss of functionality.
Also, as an aside, I have always called the zoom function by pressing the 'Command' key first and then the spacebar. If you swap the order you press these two keys then Spotlight doesn't seem to be invoked. But this is a hassle to relearn after so many years. Just in case it helps,
    All the best,

  • I can't order more than one picture at a time in iphoto.  I am holding the command key down and highlighting two but only the last one is showing up

    Hi,
I need help placing an iphoto order online for prints.  I have a few pictures I want in a few sizes and it seems to only allow me to select one at a time.  I have held the command key down but it defaults to the last picture i selected.  I appreciate your help.

What system and iPhoto versions are you using?  As a quick test try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.  See if you can get all of the selected photos in the order window as it should be.
If you can't then try this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Mid 2011 macbook air. command key has popped off and is now missing the 2nd metal bar. can this be replaced?

The command key popped off my mid 2011 macbook air. It is meant to have two metal bars but can't find the 2nd one. I have clicked it back into place but if I press the button at the bottom the top pops up and I'm worried that if I don't fix the problem I may end up losing the key altogether!
Can you buy replacement metal bars? should I just remove the other bar completely?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, must have been the crackpipe I smoked last night! LOL
You won't see anything in the Application Support --> Bootcamp folder unless you have previously downloaded the Windows Support Software. Good find.
    ADDENDUM STEP:
This step should be placed between 9-10.
Open Bootcamp Assistant. Uncheck everything BUT, "DOWNLOAD THE LATEST WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE FROM APPLE". You will be prompted to burn the image to a CD/DVD or save to a USB Key. Save the image to a USB key. This will format your USB key properly in preparation for the files. The download commences and if you're lucky, the files will simply be saved to your USB key without having to manually copy them over to the key using the steps above.
IMPORTANT - Even if the support software hangs when its being saved to the USB key, you should now be able to navigate to the directory and see the image. Follow the steps above.
    Apologies for missing this.

Of course. To do it, open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and untick "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows".

Click on the 'Keyboard' tab and hit the 'modifier keys...' button. You can see and change the defaults there.
As I'm not sure if all the labels are the same in Lion, he's a screenshot from Snow Leopard. It should be similar enough:

  • Is there a way to operate the command key using the mouse?

I am working with a student who has limited movement of his hands. He is able to operate a mouse. However, he cannot operate the mouse and make key commands at the same time. Is there any way to adapt the mouse so command key actions can be carried out without pressing the key?

Look inside System Preference "Universal Access" (or whatever even more politically correct name it is called now).
There is a feature called "Sticky keys". That says that when you press the command key in a certain way, it stays pressed (It is "Sticky").
There are also two and three button mouse devices that can be used readily on a Mac (including the "Mighty Mouse" with the little rollerball) that can register one, two, or three button operations.

Agreed. Cannot stop it by disabling the "Windows" key (from within Windows 7). Every time I Cmd-Tab to change apps, the Start Menu pops up,
and persists, overlaying other app windows. Much more than annoying.
Also, there is no Clipboard Sharing, apparently. Love typing in long binary strings into the Registry.

  • My command key on my macbook pro retina 2014 is sinking

So I have recently bought a Macbook pro retina 13 inch 2014 model.
I have been using it a lot lately especially for typing and using the command key. I notice that my left command key is sinking or in other words, the left command key is much lower or deeper than other keys if it is not pressed.
Is this normal? I am afraid if I keep using this left command key it will be a problem in the future.
    Thanks.

Sorry for bumping this OLD thread. But I am having the same problem. How did you guys exactly resolve it? What did Apple do when u went to the store? (Assuming you did)
    Thanks.

  • Command key shortcuts don't work anymore in Safari since upgrade to Yosemite!

    Hi,
I recently upgraded the MacOSX to Yosemite. Since this moment Safari doesn't work properly anymore, because the command key shortcuts are out of order.
    Cmd + Q
    Cmd + C
    Cmd + V
    Cmd + X
These are now the key shortcuts I've noticed that aren't working anymore. Other apps (a part from Firefox) don't seem to have these problems.
In the meantime I have to use the mouse cursor and choose from the menu bar.
Apple support wasn't able to help me! They just gave me the advice force quit Safari and restart it while pushing the ALT-key. Result: Nothing!
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind regard,

    MacBook Air

    1.3 GHz Intel Core i5

That is rather odd if they are all visible as shortcut commands.
Here are some more tests to do…
    1) Disable all your Safari Extensions & retest (in Safari Preferences).
    2) Logout of the account (from the Apple menu). At the login window enter your password & hold shift as you click the login button. Keep it held until the Desktop has become usable. This disables 'User login items' - retest. Logout after testing.
    3) Try a safe boot… OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Does it still happen in safe mode? This disables third party extensions & some inessential Apple system extensions - things will not be normal, however the Mac should be 'functional', test as much as you can.
Post the results of those here, it may give us a better idea where to look.

  • Problems with "v", "]", and command keys on the keyboard

    Hi,
On my MacBook, pressing either the "v" key or the command key to the left of the space bar, without pressing the other one as in a keyboard shortcut, pastes what is currently on my clipboard. Pressing only the command key to the right of the space bar, and not the "]" key in combination, moves me forward in my web browser. When I do press the "]" key, nothing happens (I had to copy and paste the "]" and the "v" for this post). Obviously this is somewhat annoying as typing anything with these two symbols becomes a chore. I am still able to use other keyboard shortcuts, however, but in doing so the command key either pastes from the clipboard or, if I'm using a web browser, moves me to the next page in my history before completing the shortcut. How can I fix this? Thanks.

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
    Try resetting PRAM:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound (bong) for four times.
    6. Release the keys.
If neither help, you could have a hardware issue with the keyboard.

  • My command key does not work properly

I changed my left command key on my macbook pro to a different function.  When I hit the left command button it responds by darkening the desktop background and then showing smaller versions of all the applications I have open.  Similar to mission control but not quite mission control.  I have searched around and cannot find a solution.  I am running mac os x version 10.7.5 on my macbook pro.  I have restored default funtion in the system perferences under mission control and keyboard shortcuts.  I have zapped the pram.  Is there anyone who has any suggestions to solve this issue?  Anyone?

Go to System preferences on the Apple menu, then go to "International" pane in the system preferences pane.
Select Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer. Click "Show on the menu bar".
Now on the menu bar there is a flag, probably an American flag, click on it and select "Show Keyboard Viewer"
As you change the fonts or type you will see the kb acting dynamically.
Check back if it does not solve your problem.

I'm trying to move a layer within the document by holding command key and mouse dragging (mouse cursor not above the layer) is not working at all while using move tool. Suddenly this functionality stopped working. Now I have to place my cursor on layer to be move and drag with mouse. Also pressing command key changing auto select option from layer to group.
    Please help.

Usually when a tool is not working as expected, a Reset of that tool might be the answer.
Select the move tool in the toolbox,
Go to the move tool icon on the top left of the screen (just above the toolbox in its' Option bar) and Ctrl-click on it to get the Reset menu.
    Click on Reset Tool.
