Command Line Disk Share with Windows

I am running Solaris 10 (SunOS 5.10) without the GUI interface. I cannot, therefore, run the Solaris Management Console.
How do I share my disk with Windows systems on the same network using the command line?

you can use samba for sharing its comes with solaris 10 , or use solaris 10 as nfs server and use PCNFS on windows end to mount the disk
in solaris most of things dont require GUI , thats its beauty :)

Can I share with Windows Without storing password?

Hello Apple Community. I purchased a Mac Mini and am running OS X 10.8.3 with OS X Server on it. I have enabled Open Directory and File sharring using both AFP and SMB so that I can communicate with both my Apple Laptop and my Windows 8 workstation. However, I am quite frustrated with the need to Share files and folders using SMB (windows) and having to keep a password there for my account and my wifes account. I was hoping that using Open Directory I could use as an LDAP server and just have windows authenticate to that. The only other option I can think of is to create a third account and use it for netwok sharing only. Is there way to share with Windows clients using Open Directory where I do not have to store the password?
Links to articles or suggestions greatly appreciated. I use a mixed environment as there are more game options on Windows then OS X, so saying repace the Windows computer is not an option.

home sharing works between two (or more) computers on the same network. if iTunes on his machine is running, you can transfer content without needing to touch his computer.
if you have your content on an iPod, you can repopulate a new (empty) library with the files from there. check out this post by Zevoneer.
or, you can Download past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store (the music feature is currently available in the US only).

I have been experiencing issues with the native OS X 10.8.3 Server SMBx service. I have therefore disabled it in favor of full Samba via SMBup. With that said, when I chose to add a new share, by default OS X Server activates "Share with Windows clients (SMB)" I would like this option disabled by default as I am managing my SMB shares through SMBup. Is there a preference to accomplish this?

AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
- The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
- The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
- It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
- The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.

Using Family Share or Home Share with Windows 8? If so, what is my best option and how do I set it up??

I would like to use either Family Share or home share. If I use a pc/laptop with Windows 8, will I be able to use these programs, or do I have to use an Apple device initially? I have an iTunes acct,that I share w/my daughter. However, I would like for us, to each have our own account, and yet share music when we want to.So,am I better off using Family Share or Home Share? We have a lot of music that we have bought together over the years, and I don't want either of us to lose out on those purchases. Yet, I also don't necessarily want all of the music that she buys, and she doesn't want all the music that I buy. If either of these are an option, how do I go about setting it up? Excel 2013 Border Lines not printing with Windows 8

Hi. I have a problem with Excel files not printing the border lines of the cells in documents.
There are 3 laptops with Windows 8 64bit in our company now using Office 2013. Only today did they mention to me that the borders from only those Laptops are not printing. In the PrintPreview it shows them, but they dont print. From my work PC that's using
Windows 7 64bit and Office 2013 they do print.
I'fe printed the a PDF printer on thier PC's but it also prints without the borders. These files are automatically created in excel format by the software our comapany uses, every user recives he's file via email and can then print it or send it to customers.
The software does not display the title boxes correctly when using the default windows 8 theme (you cant see what you are typing, the background is black and the text aswell). To get past this we select High Contrast theme (thers no CLASSIC theme in windows
8) and then tweak the settings a bit to get it as close to classic as possible.
Now it seems like when you use high contrast as a theme Excel does not print broders, I came across this on the internet whit other people also having this problem. Thers no solution that I found that I can implement on those three laptops. I cant change
the theme back if they wont be able to read what they type, and I dont know how to get the borders to print in every excel file they get in the future without having them to go through a whole process of changing settings everytime they need to print.

Also what happens if you change the borders style within Excel? for example, change the border line to thick.

Sharing a remote share with windows

Hi folks
Ive got an archbox fileserver and it runs samba sharing some folders. I can also mount my web host using sshfs. If i then try to share that using samba (which im not sure is possible) windows throws a wobbly and has to be rebooted (cannot do anything to get into task manager)
Is there something im doing wrong or another means of achieving this?

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "printer sharing." One of the articles is titled, "Sharing your printer with Windows users." It explains what to do.

Output to command line in Linux with built exe

Hi Folks,
Here's an interesting challenge...
I've got a VI that a customer wants to use as a command line utility in
Linux. I've gotten command line arguments in without any
problem. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get strings
back out to the prompt. The first thing I tried was the system
exec VI that's in the communication palette. Is there something
silly I've overlooked?
I've also seen some very limited discussion on how to output to the
command line using Windows API calls. However, please remember
that I'm trying to output to the command line in Linux.

Hi Jim,
You can accomplish this using the pipe commands. Just don't open the
handle, stdout (0), stdin (1), and stderr (2) are always open. See the
attatched VI.
For the record, I haven't tried this as an executable, but it works
running in LabVIEW and I have no reason to expect that it wouldn't work
as an exe.

Command line - two devices with the same name

I have two identical logitech usb webcams on the same system,
and I'm trying to use the command line to encode from each. The
problem is that the xml profile requires the device name, but both
devices are listed using the exact same name, so the command line
only ever chooses one of the cameras as the source. Using the GUI,
I can select one or the other because they both appear in the drop
down list.
Is there a way to specify the device index ala ActionScript,
or another way to specify the device? I tried renaming the camera
in the WinXP control panel, but that change was not seen by FME.

How do you either set "Show More Tiles" or Start Screen rows via command line or script for Windows 8.1?

Is there a method to change the Start Screens number of rows (similar to Windows 8.0's use of the Explorer\Scaling\MonitorSize in registry). Possibly by forcing the switch for "Show More Tiles" via script etc? This is to enable the device with
Windows 8.1 to be built using a deployment methodology like SCCM and have the Tiles correctly configured as required for a standard look and feel across devices. I do not know why all these switches are not represented in either WMI or the registry to enable
the customization of look and feel out of the box for enterprise deployments.

Command Line Input Terminating with Ctrl+D

Hi,
I am writing a program, that gets the input from the command line, what I want the program to do it continue to get the input until Ctrl+D is entered but I can not work out how to do this.
Has anyone got any ideas.

Are you working in a unix system? If so, Control-D means end-of-input, so you don't specifically look for a control-D character, you just check for end of input (end of the stream). This is provided in IO routines, in particular BufferedReader:
"Returns:
A String containing the contents of the line, not including any line-termination characters, or null if the end of the stream has been reached"
So for example:

Fail to build SSIS/SSAS projects via VS2012 command line (devenv.exe) with SSDT BI tool installed

Hello,
I installed recently released SSDT BI tools for VS2012 and I can work on my existing SSIS/SSAS projects all well in VS2012. But when I try to build my SSIS/SSAS projects via the command line of VS2012, such as
devenv.exe mySolution.sln /rebuild Release /out "C:\temp\buildLog.txt"
I will get the error like below in the log file.
Error: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))
Is this a known issue? If yes, any fix has been planned?

Ntoskrnl.exe System %100 disk usage with windows 8.1. all the time!.

hello i am also having the %100 disk usage problem and am starting a thread to upload my etl. file and see if i can get a solution. thnx. i should also mention i have tried every suggestion i have read on the internet even ones that worked for other people
did not work for me i.e. (switching to high performance power plan, disabling cd drive, etc.) no matter what i try "system" is always utilizing 90%-100% of my hard drive and it is driving me crazy.
i can barely do anything on computer without it taking 10x times longer than it should. ive also run dskchk and boot time virus scans and malware scans. all to no avail. i have more than enough ram and a quad core cpu. when i first purchased my laptop it
was running windows 8 and was lightning fast once i upgraded to 8.1 i think is when the issue started occurring.
i am currently installing the windows assessment and deployment kit right now and will upload my etl. file to the skydrive asap.

In order to diagnose this problem please follow these instructions
Install the WPT (windows Performance Toolkit) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt.aspx ,
open a CMD prompt with administrative rights (right click it>run as admin) and run this command for 60 secs to capture the high HD usage:
xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+CSWITCH+FILENAME+FILE_IO+FILE_IO_INIT+DISK_IO+DISK_IO_INIT+DRIVERS+PROFILE -f kernel.etl -stackwalk Profile+CSwitch+DiskReadInit+DiskWriteInit+DiskFlushInit+FileCreate+FileCleanup+FileClose+FileRead+FileWrite -BufferSize 1024 -MaxBuffers 1024 -MaxFile 1024 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d XperfSlowIOcir.etl*When complete, zip the trace & upload it to skydrive (or some other file sharing service) and put a link to it in your next post.
