Command opens Mission Control and can't over ride it

Everytime you hit cmd  every window resizes pulling you out of the app you were in and unable to use any shortcuts! Really annoying.
The cmd key alone isn't assigned to any shortcut in system preferences>keyboard>shortcuts, nor is it assigned to anything in mission control?!
Restore defaults doesn't solve it.
Really at a loss so any thoughts really appreciated.

Sounds like you've got something else running that is messing with Mission Control. Do you have anything like 'Total Spaces' installed?
If not, the first thing to try is open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app) and type or paste this command into the Terminal window:
killall Dock
Then press 'return' on the keyboard. You should see the Dock disappear for a second or two then reappear. Now go and test Mission Control. Same problem?

  • Command button opens mission control, so I can't use it for other shortcuts

I have only had my macbook air for a few weeks, and I think I may have fiddled with settings before I had any clue what I was doing, as now every time I press the command key, it opens mission control, and I can't use command for other shortcuts... What have I done wrong and how do I undo it??? Help much appreciated!

I am having this issue, too, and Keyboard Shortcuts doesn't fix it, as I have not assigned Command to anything. It just states at the bottom "for additional choices press Shift, Control, Option, or Command," but doesn't seem to allow me to change these. Do you know of a way?

  • Macbook pro w/ Mavericks - right command and right option functioning as shortcuts for mission control and show desktop

    Hello,
All of a sudden my right command and right option keys are functioning as shortcuts for mission control and show desktop respectively. I haven't changed anything and can't seem to find any shortcut option in system preferences to change it. Control + up still works for mission control as default, and F11 is still show desktop. Left command and left option are working as normal.
Any suggestions? I have a feeling theres some silly little thing I've missed...
    Thanks.

    Hello benja_d
That is an interesting issue with the keyboard. To help isolate the issue, open up the Keyboard view to see if there are any keys being held down while you are typing to see if that is the issue. You will also will want to try this in another user on your computer to see if it something that is User specific or system wide. Let me know if you have figured out this part and I can help you further.
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

  • Is anyone experiencing problems with opening mission control from the desktop.  Running mountain lion with parallels 7 and windows 7

is anyone experiencing problems with opening mission control from the desktop.  Running mountain lion with parallels 7 and windows 7

I had been having a similar problem on Lion with Safari pdf files despite downloading the latest Adobe Reader XI.
I would constantly get the same messages - There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired. And I would get a blank page when I tried to print the pdf if I tried printing from the Safari web page using File - Print from the top toolbar on my laptop.
Then I came across the grey Safari lozenge with action icons.
This allowed me, without downloading the pdf, to print the pdf file direct from the Safari page by using the Print icon on the grey lozenge that appears centrally three quarters down the screen.
Then I discovered that if I save the pdf using the Save icon from this same grey lozenge on the Safari page I can open and print this pdf version from my desktop.
I've tested it with a couple of different pdf files and these methods work using the grey lozenge icons but the same pdfs files don't work using File - Save As on the Tool Bar.

  • Can't open mission control after installing mountain lion

Mountain Lion is working smoothly for me except that I can't open mission control. I became aware of this because the "hot corners", which I use frequently stopped working for me. Maybe there's a preference file somewhere I can trash? I can't seem to find anything in the library.

I'm having the same issue.  Not only the hot corners not work for mission contral, but neither do the keyboard shortcuts.  A restart fixes the problem for me, until my iMac (2011) goes to sleep and is woken up again.  After that, the mission contral functionality no longer works, and neither does the "show desktop" hot corner functionality.

  • HT4689 do i have to use mission control or can i set it to another method ?

I don't have a sensor mouse, i am using an old mouse and don't really feel like buying a whole new mouse.  Do I have to use mission control or can I get an app to customize the computer to my personal style?

Mission Control is just one way someone can navigate their mac.
    I personally never use it.
There are plenty of application for using your mac, but there are a lot of built in shortcuts you can make for it too.
If you did, sort of want to use mission control, but don't have a touch sensitive device to bring it up, you can do a couple of things that the mac already is capable of doing without having to purchase anything new or download a third party app.
    1. Hot Corners.
Hot corners are a way to access some of the most important tasks for your computer. you can set hot corners in System Preferences>Mission Control then click "Hot Corners" button on the bottom left of the window and the settings will slide down and look like this. Choose the pulldown menu for whichever corner you want mission control to be in and then move your mouse cursor to that corner. As you can see there are other options for hot corners to help you better control and customize your machine.
    2. Spotlight.
spotlight is a powerful tool and is often times overlooked by novices.
hit cmd and space bar at the same time (cmd+spacebar) and up pops a search box in the upper right corner of your screen. start typing an application or a file you want to be opened. spotlight automagically begins guessing what you're searcing for.
I use spotlight a lot and it keeps my desktop very clean of anything that I'm not working on or with.
if the first selection in the list is what you wanted you can hit enter. Sometimes all I need to do is type in a few letters and then "enter" and the application is loading up in no time. It also bring open apps to the front.
    3. Keyboard Shortcuts
there is a way to make your keyboard's Function keys act as "hotspots" as well.
go to system preferences>keyboard and you can set your own keyboard shortcuts or see the ones that are preset in OSX. These are here to help you navigate your mac faster.
Another keyboard shortcut I like is cmd+tab. if you hold down the command key, and you tap on the Tab key, a thing called "Application Switcher" appears. This lets you see what is open and also lets you select which one you want to come to the forefront. you can continue to hold the command key down after hitting tab to use your cursor to select the application or continually hit tab with the command key down until it is highlighting the app you want.
Not completely sure what you wanted or didn't want mission control for or what alternatives you wanted to know but here are a few that will make your workflow fast and you, one step closer to being a power user.

  • Mission Control and the dock -- strange behavior

Go to Mission Control and click on an open application's dock icon:  Lion acts very erratically.  It might switch the right app.  It might switch to some other app.
Note:  Have a couple of full-screen apps, like Safari, Mail or iTunes, open.
This is driving me crazy.  Since the dock isn't displayed in full-screen apps, I tend to do the four-finger-up gesture to get to the Mission Control screen to get to the dock to switch to another open app.  I recognize that there are other ways to switch apps, but shouldn't this way work work, too?

I feel your pain. "Over 250 exciting new features" was the promise. I, literally, have found ZERO new features that are useful. Yes, that's right---not a single one.
And for the record....I am a long-time Apple fan, and Apple addict. My first computer was in 1985 and it was an Apple. Every computer ever since has been Apple. I've never had a complaint---until now. I'll just say it in plain English---Lion is GARBAGE. I have found absolutely, positively, nothing useful about it---zip, zero, nada! Now I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of this junk and put Snow Leopard back on. Apple should be ashamed---this is pitiful. And my computer has NEVER EVER crashed before (well, okay..I'm sure it has at some point over the last 26 years..but I don't recall when). But now my computer crashes at least 3 times per day. Un-fricking-believable.

  • Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight,Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight, Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?

If you have an external drive with an OS X Time Machine backup, then do restore of your last backup. If you have an external drive  with a bootable clone of your previous system, you can boot to that clone and re-clone the OS X on your external drive back to your Mac's internal drive.
If you do not have either of these available, then the reverting/restoring process becomes much more complicated and involves purchasing an external drive and backing up your current system to that drive, then erasing, reformatting your hard drive and now your only options to installng an OS X version is doing a clean install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then upgrading, again, to either OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no longer available for download and Apple has not made OS X 10.9 Mavericks available in any other form to be able to redownload and install.
Maybe it would be better to explain in detail your issues with Yosemite to see if any of us here can help you with your difficulties.
I am not running or using Yosemite, so I cannot help you with your Yosemite issues,
There are others here who can help you with Yosemite.
    Good Luck.

  • Mission control and separation of windows

When going into mission control you can tell for example if you have 5 ms word windows but they are all stacked on top of each other. Can they be more organized like when you right click and hit show all windows?
Also when dragging in mission control can you achieve the same goal making the dragged window stay in that spot and not allow it to move back apart from putting it to a new desktop?
    Thanks.

I found what is causing the problem, and solved also the other problem I had with locking the screensaver in System Preferences
Very simple, now that I tried everything for days
I used a different password for my keychain
If  I use the same one for both my login and the keychain everything goes back in place
    and works!

  • Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
    I will appreciate your assistance.

I have finished a book in Aperture 3. When I press" buy book' a text comes up " empty text field detected in book" I have been through the book many times and can't find it. Can I over ride it?  At this stage the book wants me to cancel

I have been through the book many times and can't find it. Can I over ride it?  At this stage the book wants me to cancel
Sure, you can override the warning and press "Continue" instead.
But you said "you have been through the book many times" - have you checked the pages in Aperture's book view or have you checked the preview of the book? I'd look at least at at the "Preview" of the Book - after pressing "Continue" you will see the "Preview" button when the next panel is shown. Look carefully at the preview of the book, if any text is missing.
If you are sure that you like what you see in the preview and no empty textfields show, you can proceed to buy the book.
