Command plus launches widget panel?!

There are a few things I love about Lion, but there are a few liberties the devs took that perplex and annoy me.
The biggest little issue I've run into is the fact that Apple has commandeered the "Command Plus" shortcut and tied it to the Dashboard Widget panel.
W T F Apple? Really?! EVERY application in the history of keyboard shortcuts has used that very command to zoom in.
As a designer (and the core userbase of your decreasingly professional operating system) I spend much of my day zooming in and zooming out.
I have many software titles that make use of this shortcut for the same function and it would be a major hassle to change the keybindings for all of these.
How can I turn off the widget panel (and for that matter, how can I change iWork's zoom to use cmd + and cmd -?)
Thanks.

danfromgilbert had the right answer for me. In the Mission Control panel, turn off "Show Dashboard as a space", then you must actually USE Mission control (for me it's set to four finger swipe up) the select another app or something, and only then will Command-+ be restored to zoom in.
This was the weirdest thing because I've been using Lion since the beginning and never had this problem. It only changed when I upgraded from Adobe CS4 to Adobe Creative Cloud (CS6). Apparently CS4 apps (Photoshop, Illustrator) had somehow been overriding this weird new preference so I didn't notice Apple had changed it. As noted above, this is a completely stupid decision by Apple, it's been a de facto standard key combo for just about every app since the beginning of the Mac, and something thousands to millions of people literally use hundreds if not thousands of times every day. And who the heck even needs a keyboard shortcut for "Add more widgets"?? Really Apple? Wow, unbelievable.
Anyway, thanks again Dan for finding an easy solution.
EDIT: this will remove Dashboard from Mission Control, gestures, Command-Tab switching, and the dock. Which is fine with me, but it does work. You can just re-add it to the Dock after you make the preference mod if you need to use it.

Command plus is no longer working for me correctly in Safari 8.0.2.  When I use it to zoom in a safari window, it makes fonts bigger instead of scaling the entire page bigger like it used to.  What changed or what did I accidentally change?   This  is only happening in Safari.  When I use Command Plus in a Chrome or firefox browser window, it works perfectly still.
To explain this a little better,  I have a 27" iMac.  When I open a browser widow in safari like yahoo.com,  The content fits in about a 10.5" section of the screen.  If i go to full screen or enlarge the window to fit the full screen the same 10.5" content is centered in my screen.  Previously, I could use Command Plus to zoom and the entire page would scale increasing from 10.5" to eventually filling the screen.  Now when I use command plus, the font's get bigger and bigger but the page width stays at 10.5"

    Hi petraidm,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If I'm understanding you correctly, it appears you have updated Safari to the latest version, but are still using Mountain Lion as your operating system, is that correct?
You may need to adjust your screen resolution, or the zoom settings in the Accessibility pane of System preferences.   Usually, zooming changes the size of text or content in a window -- not the size of the window itself.   So I usually go to full screen mode in Safari, and then zoom in if I need to enlarge the text.

If you have difficulty seeing or reading items on the screen, you can use Accessibility preferences to magnify items on the screen. You can zoom the entire screen or zoom the area that has keyboard focus in a separate window.
    Set up zoom
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, and then click Zoom.
    Do either of the following:
To zoom with keyboard shortcuts, select “Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.”
To zoom with your mouse or trackpad, select “Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom.”
Choose where the magnified content appears with the Zoom Style pop-up menu.To display it in a window near the mouse cursor, choose Picture-in-picture. To display it on the entire screen, choose Fullscreen.
To set options for zoom or the zoom window, click More Options.More Options panel
You can also turn on zooming by pressing Command (⌘)-Option (⌥)-F5 and selecting options in the Zoom section.
    Zoom with keyboard shortcuts
To zoom in, press Command (⌘)-Option (⌥)-Equal Sign (=). To zoom out, press Command (⌘)-Option (⌥)-Minus Sign (-).
If you chose Picture-in-picture zooming, a window appears near the mouse cursor with the magnified image. If you chose the Fullscreen zooming, the entire screen displays the magnified image.
Zoom with a mouse or trackpad
To zoom in and out, hold down the modifier key you specified while you perform the scroll gesture.
For example, if you have a trackpad and used the default settings, zoom in by holding down the Control (^) key while you drag two fingers up on the trackpad. Zoom out by holding down the Control key while you drag two fingers down on the trackpad.
If you chose Picture-in-picture zooming, a window appears near the mouse cursor with the magnified image. If you chose Fullscreen zooming, the entire screen displays the magnified image.

  • Can someone help with insertion of Flash actionscript 3.0 swf into Dreamweaver spry widget panel?

Working on a thesis project due soon... Created flash actionscript 3.0  swf for home page, text plus image, previews beautifully in Flash  Publish, stored in my root folder, previews great when I open it in the  root folder, dragged and dropped it into my dreamweaver code page,  within a spry widget framework, size is perfect. and upon view in design  or browsers or browser lab, I just get a nice empty white box.  In  design view, I see the F symbol and when I click play in properties, I  get a message that says "Unable to find the plug in that handles this  media type.  Dreamweaver looks in both the "config/Plugins folder and  the plug in folder for each o your installed browsers".  I have Flash  Professional CS 5.  Reinstalled it just in case that was the issue with  the plug in and didn't resolve the problem.  Dreamweaver version is  CS5.  Using a template with spry widget panels. Before I inserted the  swf, the preview in browsers and browser lab was fine on the spry widget  and background.  PC is windows, 32 bit, with ms office suite 2010  upgrade on it.  Appreciate any advice.

my first trace on the hz position and vt position outputs but the trace for "scroll positions" and "new scroll positions" is not outputting.
i recieve this output when i click the 'next' and 'back' buttons within the menu9.SWF.

  • How to use keyboard shortcut OPTION SHIFT COMMAND PLUS?

The application I am using has two keyboard shortcuts for changing the KERN of some text:
    TIGHTEN = OPTION + SHIFT + COMMAND + MINUS
    LOOSEN = OPTION + SHIFT + COMMAND + PLUS
The TIGHTEN command works fine but the LOOSEN command doesn't. If I plug in an external keyboard then it works fine as long as I use the or on the NUMPAD.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your post. I tried your suggestion and indeed got the Excel short-cut back. It wasn't obvious as "Mission Control" and "Application Windows" are mapped to F9 and F10 (rather than the ctrl-shift-down" combo).
It's ok since I don't really have any use for shortcut launching "Mission Control" or "Application windows".

Sorry, but you must Command + for every page. It's not permanent.

  • Styling command link inside a panel List

    Hi All,
    I have the following layout:
    PanelBox
    --panelList
    -- CommandLink
I would like to style the command link under the panel List component. I have tried skinning the command Link component individually as well as applying styling to panel List component. Both didn't work( I haven't debugged this yet with firebug). From the skinning document, it has been mentioned that Style the root component of the command Link/Panel List. In this case, how do we style the command Link component. Basically, i would like to apply style for Link active, hover and focus.
    Thanks,
    Bala

As far as I am aware, you would need to skin the specific component irrespective of the parent componet/root.
For your usecase, you take look at the skinning demo application for the various skinning selectors for the command link at

    Thanks,

  • Launch Setup panel - Install Identity Manager

    Hi all
I am installing Identity Manager for Sun Java System Application Server and (file installer) I am following this link http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19164-01/820-0817/Ch8_java8.html
    in the step 5 .
After installing the files, Identity Manager do not displays the Launch Setup panel.
    Why?
    do you Help me?
    Thanks

    it says a format error...
there's some error in what you are entering.
After copying you must rename the file as the Installation doc explains
i still suspect when it says format error, must be something that you are entering

  • Widget Panel Empty

This topic already exists in the "why is my widget not working" thread but no one was paying attention to that after waiting a day so I'm starting this one.
No widgets are showing on my widget panel.  I've tried re-selecting the folder multiple times with the "change path"  button, tried adding with the browse button, hitting the refresh button, nothing works. I'm on Win 7  32bit in the admin account, running as admin just to be sure, using Captivate 5 version 5.0.1.624. The widgets are  definitely there in the gallery folder but nothing seems to make them  show up in the widget panel. I tried changing the folder path to a more  accessible location, copying the widgets to a folder in My Documents,  still no dice. Does *anyone* have a clue about this problem?

Yeah, when I enlarge the panel moving it up to the properties/library tab it's just a big gray window with a black outline where the list should be. It gives me the 'thinking' cursor when I try to refresh or change the path so I know it's attempting to populate but nothing is showing up.
I'm familiar with the re-creating preferences folder method from Illustrator and Photoshop but I'm unable to find said folder in Captivate. What's the folder name and where is it located exactly? I'm new to Captivate, I hadn't thought of doing that before because this is the first time I've used it since installing.

  • Is there Business Rules Command Line launcher in Linux?

    Hi,
I have Hyperion Planning, Essbase, EAS and BR installed on Linux. I am trying to automate a Business Rule using Command Line Launcher, but couldn't find the shell script for it in Linux env. I know that there is a utility in Windows env, but was wondering if the same is available in Linux or not. If it is not, if someone could show me a way to automate Business Rules in Linux, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,

  • FCPX - command plus opens dashboard???

FCP X Randomly started opening my dashboard when I press (command and plus) to zoom in on the timeline.
Now when I need to zoom in,  the widget manager pops up under my dock, but I'm still looking at FCPX with floating close buttons all over the screen that would normally appear on widgets that you want to remove.
FCPX is so buggy, When is 10.1 coming? For that matter just give me 10.5 and fix it all. I love the idea of learning how to edit differently after 5 years (just a lil sarcasm) but to do it in a faulty environment frustrates me to no end... or perhaps to jump ship...

1st, make sure in your System Preferences you have F keys set to work as F keys, and that keyboard shortcuts are set to system default.
2nd, a lot of us are not getting this behavior.  Get "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (free) and trash FCP X pref files.  This clears up most bugs.

This only started happening after the 10.0.01 update. 'Command -' works as it should.

Not happening here. What's Widget Manager? Is it something you set in system preferences?
What keyboard is this? Extended? What +? On the keypad or next to delete?

  • Give commands to MUSE widgets inside EDGE is possible?

Hi. I love designing with Muse and Edge. Wouldn'it be just great if I could controll Muse widgets inside my Edge elements? I tried tracking the Muse document and calling the functions inside Edge using jquery but it didn't work. Is there a way for this?
    Any help would be appreciated.

While multiadressing may get you "synchronous" enough it's by no means a guarantee that both instruments will really react equally fast when receiving the trigger command over the GPIB bus. For true hardware synchronized operation you will have to use the trigger bus on the back of the device to connect them together, select one of the 4 trigger lines to use and set them up correctly on both instruments, one as input and one as output and then send the trigger command to the device that drives the trigger line. That will give you synchronisation to microseconds accurate. GPIB multi addressing will be in the range of several milliseconds and sequential GPIB in the range of maybe 100 milliseconds.

  • Dashboard quits when trying to launch widget from ~/library/widgets

    Hello,
My iMac has several accounts which work perfectly. However, my son just noticed in his account (his account is "standard" not "admin") that when he is using dashboard that the widgets that are preloaded (those in HD/library/widget) work fine BUT all those that he had previously added (i.e. those place in ~/library/widgets) do not launch. When he tries to run any of those he gets kick off dashboard back to the finder. I have tried eliminating the plist associated with Dashboard from his account but that did not work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your help. However:
Yes, I have trashed both of those files from his ~/library/preferences directory and restarted. However, the problem remains unchanged.
Additionally, I have also eliminated his cache items (com.apple.dashboard.client and DashboardClient folders in ~/library/caches) associated with dashboard. The only change has been that this has wiped his preferences so now when I start Dashboard on his account I get the default widgets (e.g. weather, calculator, time and calendar... as you would when you have a new account). Those dashboard items work as they are from the HD/library/widget folder. Those widgets that he added (e.g. say cheese, etc) do not start and kick you out of dashboard if you try to start them.
Lastly, I have removed all the widgets that he added to his account and then tried to add them back. When I double click a widget install file from his desktop, I do not get the same "slow motion ripple effect" widget addition item that I get in the other accounts on the iMac nor the dialogue box that asks if I want to add the widget. After doing an attempted install of a widget from his account, if I start dashboard and hit the "+" I see the new widget item has an entry, however, clicking on this just gets me kicked out of dashboard again and I am back where I started.
    Any more ideas???
