Command R Question

I just used disk utility to erease everything off my Hard Drive (500GB HDD) and i am redownloading OS X Lion but if i turn off my mini with out a OS on my Hard Drive can i get back to OS X Utility?

The time remaining is not always correct in the begining and will start dropping to reflect a more realistic time as the download runs.
As I recall, my DSL which runs around 1.4Mbps only took around 3 hours to download ML.

  • Command Prompt Questions

    Hi I have a question on command prompt coding, Can someone please tell me where can i find it?It would be great if you guys can move my below question to that location.
    Hi All,
    I have the following Copy Command which copies files from one location to another
    XCOPY D:\Test C:\Test /i
    Now i would like to have the files copied from D to C everyday based on the date for today, i googled around and found this one which is working fine
    XCOPY D:\Test C:\Test /D:01-19-2015.
    The thing here is i want the date to be automated as i would like to schedule a job for this one which would copy the files daily automated .
    Can someone please help me with this?
    PLease let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks

    I'd avoid ITCG. Bill and jrv will just tell the OP to post in the platform forum, as the question is about how to use a utility and not about scripting.
    Just my two cents.

    Hi Mike,
    That's sad, really, as your suggestion is a batch file, which I thought were welcome there.
    By the way, congratulations!

  • Command line questions....

    I really have two questions here.
    First, I have a small server that is very similar to this one I pulled off a tutorial:
    public class MyServer{
    // A bare-bones example: exception handling omitted.
       public static void main( String args[] ){
          ServerSocket serv;
          serv = new ServerSocket( 5150 );
          while ( true ) {
             Socket s;
             s = serv.accept();          // Wait for a connection
             handle_connection( s );  // Got one, now do something!
            s.close();
    } When I run this program from the command line it goes into an infinite loop readily accepting connections.
    For the most part, this is what I want. But how do I gracefully exit the program? Simply closing the command window seems drastic, not to mention the list of exceptions it throws.
    Second question: Once I run my program, is there a way I can close the command line window and log off the computer without killing my program?
    thanks.
    (Running on NT)

    How do you stop the program? You write another program that connects to the same socket and sends a message that both programs agree means "Shutdown". When the server receives this message, it shuts down nicely.
    Now you want to run it as an NT service? I've seen people post links to a third-party package that can run a Java class as an NT service; I didn't note the link but you could probably find it by searching the forums.

  • How to make a backup of your stuff? and Command+tab question

    First of all, is there an alternative to using a different Command+tab button? OR the F3 button to switch between windows? A lot of times I have more than ONE safari window open and I want to Command tab but Command+tab won't show the OTHER safari sites open. I use the F3 button also but is there another way to ALT+tab to DIFFERENT safari/firefox windows like on the Windows OS?
    I was just wondering if IN TIME, Mac's will start running slower (like PC's) as you put more programs in. I know from experience, even by just staying on trusted sites, in about 2+ years your windows vista/7 will be a little slower. How do I reformat a Mac (factory reset) and besides backing everything up on a DVD, is there a way to backup my files?
    Sorry for these nub questions, I only had this for like a month xD

    Welcome to the Mac world!
    Mac OS let's you fully customize the keystrokes which you can quickly move between the windows you want. You will find these settings under System Preferences and Expose & Spaces under the personal area.
    When you are in here, you can assign a different keys, or secondary key, to active the show all windows (what you are currently using as F3). Under the All Windows selection, you will see the default set to F3. Here you can change it if you would like, say assigning the right or left shift key to open the show all windows feature. In the box to the right which should be empty, you can even assign extra mouse keys (assuming you use an external mouse) to do the exact same thing, which I find makes your work-flow much easier. Play around with the mouse settings to get what you like (I use my mouse to show all windows when I press the scroll wheel). Hopefully this will be a sufficient solution to your needs. Have a look here for more keyboard shortcuts: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343
    Regarding your second question, you will find that Mac's do not fall failure to the typical 'OS rot' that you see when using Windows in just a short year or two. The same goes for keeping your computer on for long periods. Where Windows will be noticeably sluggish after even a day or two of continuous use, Mac's can have an uptime of weeks without a drop in performance (a buddy of mine usually only restarts once a month unless the power flashes). You will likely only need to re-install the OS if something happens to the computer and it no longer functions properly. In this case, I recommend using Apple's build in Time Machine application (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427) however you will require an external hard drive. Time Machine takes a backup of your computer whenever you ask it and if you have to re-install the OS, it will restore everything to it's previous state.
    Hope this helps!

  • Audio guys, LAME command line question

    Hey I know this is not the exact forum for this question but I figured you guys could help me better than anyone. I have a G5 running tiger server and a website that is recompressing uploaded MP3 files using LAME via command line. LAME seems to be mangling some of the files by creating distorted filed and 0 byte sized files. I am wondering is there an any other mac program that I can use to reencode mp3 files with the terminal and command line? LAME is said to be great but the files that are already at the frequency that I want (44.1) are converted ok but everything else is just mangled... any suggestions. Thanks!

    I guess I'm looking for either:
    a suggestion on why LAME might be messing up files, maybe someone wlse who had similar issues with LAME and found a fix
    or
    another mac program like LAME that I can run via command line through PHP to convert files.
    I'll play with automator and see if the itunes option might work.
    Thanks!

  • Command window question

    Is there a way i can catch what is being displayed in the command window? I have a class that creates an instance of another and in this second class i have some System.out.printlnes - i need to display them in my swing app (first class) but cant since i dont know how to either get the 2nd class to pass it back to update the screen or how to get access on the command window.
    My swing class extends JFrame and the second class does not extend anything .... the application starts running from the swing class ---- any ideas????
    Kind Regards

    You can redirect System.out. Just call System.setOut(...), and add a new OutputStream. I think you would be able to use piped streams. Add a PipedOutputStream to System.out, and listen to the PipedInputStream you added to PipedOutputStream.
    I think it would be easier if you just changed all your System.out.prints in the class to call a method on your frame calls.

  • Command+Tab question (coming from Windows XP)

    Bought my first mac...a MacBook with Leopard.
    I'm having a hard time getting used to the Command+Tab app switching functions, as I'm used to Alt+Tab in Windows. There's one particular scenario that's bugging me...
    - Open a TextEdit document window. Menubar shows TextEdit.
    - Open a Finder window. Menu shows Finder.
    - Click back on the TextEdit window. Minimize that window to the right side of the dock (running apps/windows???).
    - Click back on the finder window to make it the active app/window.
    - Use Command+Tab to cycle through the open apps and stop on TextEdit. Menubar will show TextEdit, but where's my previous document? It's still in the right side of the dock. Is there any keystroke that can then cycle through the open windows within the current app (minimized or not), so I can find my document?
    - I noticed that after that last step, after I've Command+Tabbed into TextEdit with no TE windows open on the desktop, even using Expose won't show me the docked document window. Must I use the mouse to pull that document window out of the dock???
    Thanks!
    Gary

    AFAICT, yes. Either that or select Window->minimized document. I rarely minimize windows, so I don't know if there's a shortcut to unminimize those windows.

  • Command prompt question

    Hi,
    Is it possible to just start the command prompt in a certain directory. ie. my java programs are in the file C:\Java\myprograms. Can I start the command prompt so that its already in that folder?
    Thanks,
    Cam

    As long as you have set the PATH environment variable
    correctly, the operating system will be able to find
    and run an executable file (java.exe, javac.exe, etc)
    from any directory.
    If you need to set the PATH variable, read #5 of the
    Installation Instructions for the version of Java
    that you have installed.o yeah i know all that i just want to start command prompt in the folder where all my projects are stored so i dont have to type a bunch of commands to get to it. im not sure if its even possible but i just thought someone might know...

  • Command-Line question. Delete all but particular folders

    Hello. I need to create a batch file that will delete all folders within the "Users" folder except for the Administrator and Administrator.domainname.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    You could try something along the lines of
    FOR /F "tokens=*" %%G IN ('DIR /B /A:D c:\test') DO if not "%%G" == "test2" if not "%%G" == "test3" rd /s /q "c:\test\%%G"
    but if you do, you may also delete
    c:\Users\Public
    c:\Users\Default         (a hidden folder)
    c:\Users\All Users       (a system folder)
    c:\Users\Default User (a system folder)
    Which may be regrettable. If you want an example of what happens then, try reading

  • Command line question,

    Hi all,
    I am using googlecl to upload a bunch of picture to my picasa account, so far no issue.
    But if i'm using ~/picasa-upload/*.JPG it will upload all but in a random order.
    see outcome below:
    Loading file /home/sweetth/picasa-upload/SDC10825.JPG to album Newcastle
    Loading file /home/sweetth/picasa-upload/SDC10809.JPG to album Newcastle
    Loading file /home/sweetth/picasa-upload/SDC10740.JPG to album Newcastle
    Loading file /home/sweetth/picasa-upload/SDC10781.JPG to album Newcastle
    I want to have them to upload from SDC10655.JPG to SDC10800.JPG
    is there a way to right the commands to do have the upload happening in numerical order?
    Many thanks,

    Allthough ls works ok here, parsing ls output is a bad habit in general because a) the output will differ across implementations, b)  it will cause problems if it's used in a for loop like this, and c) it is often not necessary at all...
    Just loop over a glob in bash:
    for f in *.JPG; do googlecl "$f"; done
    (this will call googlecl for each file individually, not sure if that's what you want)
    Or use find and xargs instead of ls:
    find . -name '*.JPG' -print0 | xargs -0 googlecl

  • Using the Undo Command - 2 questions.

    Is there a limit to the number of nested "undos" and "redos" which can be activated using the Command-Z and Command-Shift-Z keys ?
    Is there a neater way to list the actions which are being "undone" or "redone" - or is the only available indication provided in the adjustments inspector (or HUD).
    Thanks.

    Annis,
    One of the other things to keep in mind is that the generation of an image does take some computing power so having the generation and the acquistion on the same machine is not always ideal. If you're using the machine that is publishing the front panel just to collect data it's not so much of an issue.
    If you really want to monitor in "Real-Time" using Remote Panels (requies LabVIEW 6.1) is your best option. This posting has more information on using Remote Panels and links to some live examples:
    http://exchange.ni.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=101&RPAGEID=135&HOID=506500000008000000C0660000&UCATEGORY_0=_49_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_TIER_0=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_TIER_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_0=web+control&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_S=0
    Remote panels makes it possible to control the application remotely as well.
    With .monitor the only way I've been able to manually refresh is to "Shift+Refresh" on the browser.

  • DOS command line question

    Hi, Isn't there a DOS command line symbol so that when javac returns all your syntax errors you can pause the screen before it blazes by your screen and you only catch the last few syntax errors. I thought it was javac whatever.java /p, but this doesn't work.
    Thanks.......gemann

    You might try
    javac yourClass | more
    but I seem to remember trying that without success.

  • OVM3.0.3 command-line question - how to clone

    Guys,
    I'm trying to do the following:
    take a hot clone every hour of a vm as a sort of backup of the vm
    I haven't noticed any functionality in the manager GUI. I need advise on the command to achieve this.
    Kind regards,
    J
    Edited by: JD on May 4, 2012 5:25 PM

    Have you tried this one: ovmcli-2.2-9.el5.noarch.rpm
    That should provide cli access to the Oracle VM GUI functions, including VM cloning. As a running VM results in a hot clone in OVM 3, maybe this will do th etrick for you. However, the release notes only mention OVM 2.2, but maybe it's worth a shot.

  • SSH/Terminal/Command Prompt Question

    Is there a way at school to ssh into mu computer using command prompt, copy the file i need to the desktop of the pc i am using? Is there any way to do that. I can do that GUI from a PC laptop to mac in the same house using login credinteals, but this is remote, any suggestions?

    The GUI from a PC to your Mac would be TeamViewer.com
    TeamViewer.com is free for personal use, and has both Mac and PC versions. The connections are secure, and TeamViewer.com includes file transfer capabilities.
    For pay, you can do file transfer using LogMeIn.com. It has a free option for screen sharing, but file transfer requires a for pay option.
    The ssh route. More work, but it can be effective.
    With respect to ssh on the PC, you can use PuTTY, or a Cygwin.com environment (maybe others).
    The fun part is configuring your home router so that port 22 is forwarded to your Mac, and getting a dynamic DNS name from No-IP.com or DynDNS.org so that you can easily.
    PortForward.com has documents providing step-by-step guides on how to setup port forwarding for a huge list of routers
    <http://portforward.com/>
    Finally you will need to enable System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Login which allows ssh connections to your Mac.
    Now you can use scp or sftp from a PC client to transfer files to/from your Mac. There are also PC sftp clients available for secure transfers via an ssh connection (but you still need to do all the configuration work on your home router and Mac).

  • [K8N Neo] Command queuing question

    Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, though I was unable to find a clear answer whether or not the K8N NEO supports any form of command queuing?
    Many thanks,

    Hi and welcome,
    Yes it does. However the benefit seems minimal for standar use / gaming.
