Command + right arrow preference

Using Firefox 24,
I use command right/left arrow to jump to the beginning/end of sentences when writing here on the forums.
However, if my navigation around the site leaves me with a page in the Go Forward option, (jumping back two pages after logging in)
Command + right arrow takes precidence for going forward to the next page rather than staying in the focus of the text box and jumping to the end of the sentence. It really messes with the workflow.
Is there a way to get control of that?

I have the same problem. I just installed Mavericks as well. The left arrow works and the right arrow works. Even "command-shift-left" works. But "command-left" or "command-right" don't register. If I open up the keyboard viewer, even, it registers the input when I press the left or right arrows, or when I press "command-shift-left" combo but "command-left" and "command right" and "command-shift-right" don't register on the keyboard viewer. ("Option-left" and right, "shift-left " and right all work just fine.)
I did a google search and some who had a similar problem had fixed it by opening Terminal and restarting the Dashboard with the "killall Dashboard" command. That didn't work for me. Others suggested that the problem was assigning that combination to something different than I was expecting - but I looked through my keyboard preferences and don't see those keys assigned to anything other than what they're supposed to be assigned to. Plus, the fact that they don't even register on the keyboard viewer when I type the combos suggests to me that there is something odd going on with Mavericks that created this problem.

  • Command-Left/Right Arrow not working

Very strange behavior I'm seeing today.
My left/right arrow keys work. Even Option-Left/Right works correctly.
But, Command-Left-Right do not work. No movement at all.
    Curiously, Shift-Command-Left/Right work fine.
I've not changed any keyboard shortcuts recently. I've checked the keyboard shortcuts that are currently defined. Nothing that would indicate a problem, but clearly there is.

Just found a solution that worked for me here. Basically, it seems to be a bug with the Dock. If you type "killall Dock" (the command is case-sensitive) into the command line in Terminal, it restarts the Dock. After that the arrows seem to work normally again.

  • Broken Keybinding - Command-Option-Right Arrow

Somehow, my system lost the ability to recognize cmd-alt-right. Yesterday it worked fine in Firefox and TextMate, where it was the 'move to next tab' command.
Today, something I did caused it to stop working completely. Most likely it was the mouse drivers I was trying to experiment with - Steermouse and USB Overdrive X.
I know it is not a hardware problem, because when I go to System Prefs -> Keyboard Shortcuts, it is recognized when I map it to a command. However, if I try to use that command, even through a mouse mapping, it fails.
Does anyone know where to start looking for something like this? I even thought about trying to search all files looking for \UF702 (right arrow key code), but I'm not sure how to do that.
It is really annoying, but obviously not that critical. Not worth waiting 3 hours for a Genius, or losing my machine for a week.

Apple Genius showed me that binding that key didn't work on his 10.5.2 iBook either. However, my friends MacBook Pro, which is the same as mine uses that key to switch tabs in applications (Firefox/TextMate) just fine. So something DID break, but it is hard to say what.

  • Why after i update my left and right arrow keys stop working

my left and right arrow keys stoped working after i updated to Mavericks now the dont work

    Hello ccombs2014,
It sounds like 2 of your keys are not working after updating to Mavericks. I found this section of an article for you to help troubleshoot this issue named:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1381
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working.  If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly.  Use Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Select Until Next Word is broken?  Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow

I don't use Dreamweaver all that often, and this is one reason why.  But it's finally gotten on my nerves long enough that I thought I would ask about it.  What can I do to fix Dreamweaver so that "Select Until Next Word" works as it should—the way it works in EVERY other program on the PLANET???!!  (Windows environment).
Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow, and the other arrow keys work correctly in Design View, but NONE of them work at all in Code View.  When I'm developing software, web pages—whatever—Code View is where I spend at least 90% of my time.
So have you long time Dreamweaverers found a workaround?  A fix?  If so, please share!  If not, Adobe, SHAME on you for breaking a convention so common that it's only noticed when it's broken!

Wow!  The first place I looked was in Preferences and then in Keyboard Shortcuts.  I missed that "Code Editing" dropdown.  That's fantastic.  Thank you!
Now I've got Ctrl+Left, Ctrl+Right, Ctrl+Shift+Left and Ctrl+Shift+Right working the way they should.  However, there doesn't seem to be a built-in command for selecting the previous and next paragraphs—or block-level element, I suppose in the case of the Code Editor.  Again Ctrl+Shift+Up (select previous paragraph) and Ctrl+Shift+Down (select next paragraph) are fairly standard in any application I can think of.  These commands are so standard that I really only notice when they're NOT present (which is really only in Adobe Dreamweaver).
Any idea how I might implement a workaround for those?

  • Working through David's book - trouble with Control-Left/Right Arrow

I have worked my way through David Nahmani's book in the Apple Pro Training series and it is EXCELLENT! It's the best investment I've made in a long time. The investment I made in the new computer and software would be so much less AWESOME had I not found this little gem. I do have a question, though...
When it comes to the command keys, I can't get the Control-Left/Right Arrow commands to work. They are supposed to be zoom keys - but they just wipe my window left and right. I'm probably doing something wrong. Anyone know what it is?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Gina

    Gina,
The problem is that Control + Arrow Keys is the default key command to switch between Spaces (window sets) in Leopard. So, here's what you do:
    1. Open System Preferences
    2. Click on "Exposé & Spaces" (top row, fourth icon from the left)
    3. Click on the "Spaces" tab
    4. In the bottom portion of the window you'll see a section for "Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts", in the second pulldown menu change the setting from "^ Arrow Keys" to another of the choices. I personally use the second choice, which is Command + Option + Arrow Keys.
Now, back in Logic your Control + Arrow Keys should be controlling your Arrange window zoom.
    Hope this helps!

  • Using cmd-shift-left/right arrows in Terminal

    Hi,
Is there a way to revert to Leopard's shortcuts for switching tabs in Terminal?
I'm working on a daily basis with both Leopard and Snow Leopard and the fact that I have to use cmd-shift-left/right in the former (which is coherent with Safari) and cmd-left/right in the latter (which is coherent with I wonder what?) is extremely annoying.
I tried using System Preferences Keyboard pane to assign the shortcut to no avail, but it doesn't seem to work at all.
BTW, I really don't understand why Apple changed this shortcut. As with any application, changing shortcuts is not really considerate for end users ;P
    TIA

I don't know why you have command+left or right arrow for tab switching. i have command+shift +left or right arrow. running 10.6.2 here. also, the other shortcuts for this that show up in the window menu are command+} and command+{. those can be also be changed in keyboard system preferences. that should have worked for you. i can do it without problems. but I suggest you reset your terminal preference file. that should restore teh default shortcuts. quit terminal and delete the file ~/library/preferences/com.apple.terminal.plist. start terminal and the shortcuts should be commandshiftarrows.

  • Why can't I use command+alt+arrows to switch between tabs correctly anymore?

I used to be able to use the method of command+alt+left or right arrows to switch between tabs. For example: I could be playing an online game, and be clicking things inside of the box on the screen that the game was on, use the method, and easily switch to another tab. Now, however, it doesn't let me switch between tabs unless i click outside of the game area.

Don't forget that there are many "pieces" to internet access that must all be set to make manual IP selection work, namely:
    1) Your IP address
    2) The addresses of your DNS servers
    3) The default route via which packets leave your network ("router" in Network->TCP/IP)
    4) Your subnet mask
As mentioned above you also need to assign an address from outside the DHCP pool that is on the same subnet, as at least some routers will refuse to route traffic that seems to originate from IP addresses that fall within the DHCP pool over which it has control if it did not yet assign that IP address to a client.

  • How to add another Chapter Page for more then 6 chapters & add right arrow?

    Hello,
I created a project via the Magic iDVD option and it worked great and added multiple chapter pages for more then 6 chapters. Now, I manually added a submeno off of main and added 6 chapters but I need multiple pages since I have 40 chapters... I can't figure out how to add another chapter page and create a RIGHT ARROW navigation button for the next pages...
I also looked at the map view and see that on the working pages there is page connected to page... I also cannot find a way to add a page connected vi map view...
I have searched the forum but none of the answers were clear on how to do this... any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks! T.

Adding the submenu is easy...making the button for it a "right arrow" is not.
You can keep adding submenus to other submemus by navigating to the appropriate menu and then choose the "add submenu" command from the iDVD project menu. This can be done in either normal or map view.
However, this creates a "folder" button, (or other things in some themes) not a right arrow. I agree it should be a choice! My 2nd best solution is to chage the folder button to a "text only button" and label it "More Chapters > >"
Another solution (3rd best??) is to use command-shift-4 when you are one one of your other menus that DOES have a right arrow, and take a mini picture of the arrow. Then choose one of the oval menu buttons on the button pane, and drag this tiny picture onto the button. Re-size it to make it close to the same size as your other buttons. It will have a funny edge on it from the button style, but it will look like a right arrow.

  • Command Right/Left stopped working

Don't know why or how, but the shortcuts command-right and command-left are not working any more.
and when I go to the keyboard viewer, and press on of those, the arrows key don't get highlighted. (without command pressed they do).
    Any ideas?

New information: killing the Dock is enough to eliminate the problem. So it's a malfunction of the Dock that causes this.
    In the Terminal.app, just:
      killall Dock
It will relaunch and your command-arrow keys will work again.

  • Right Arrow won't work

I have noticed that my right arrow key will not work.
I tried cleaning it out-nothing happened.
The rest of the arrow keys work, but the right one does nothing...I have updated the normal stuff- but this has been going on for a while.
    Any thoughts? Thanks,

I'm with Katrina ... people have been posting some compelling screenshots, lately.
I suspect that you might have blown out an iTunes display preference. So perhaps try the *Poista iTunes-asetustiedostot* section of the *Käyttäjäkohtainen vianmääritys* section for the following document:
[iTunes for Windows Vista tai Windows 7: Äkillisen sulkeutumisen, jumittumisen ja käynnistyksen ongelmien vianmääritys|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717?viewlocale=fi_FI]
    *Things to watch out for*
If this works, some of your preferences will be set back to their defaults, so make a note of any custom preferences you have set up. You may also need to reinstall any third-party add-ons/plug-ins.
Running iTunes after removing the \local\ set of preferences will cause the license agreement to run again.
Running iTunes after removing the \roaming\ set forces the iTunes setup assistant to run again. When prompted to add files to your library, say "no" or your library will be filled with duplicates.
(If you're not actually a Finnish speaker, I'm going to feel tremendously silly.)

Hello, is it maybe 1.5 GB?
Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...

It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option boot will show a lock, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.
    Force Removing Password Protection

What little there is in this topic: 9.0 iTunes played Football Podcast frame by frame both forward and backwards for detailed viewing. When they upgraded to 10.0 the keyboard freatured was changed and not replaced. the arrow keys now move you to the next video or the previous video. Command (open Appple) moves you ..like 3 to 4 frames ahead. This is stupid and I have to play my podcast videos in Realplayer to use their arrow keys. This is just one more level for playerts to scrfew up on when viewing themselves. THE Can someone actually ask Apple to put it back as a key board feature. It can not even be scripted, but I'm game to hear your advice.
