Command to shut computer down when an application task is complete.

Hi, I'm pretty new to Automator. I was wondering if there was a way I could set it up so my iMac either goes to sleep or shuts down once a task, such as exporting a video with Compressor or Final Cut Pro, has completed.
thanks,
Kyle

  • ITunes 7 shutting computer down

Ever since I downloaded iTunes 7, whenever I attempt to sync my iPod it says the playlists cannot be found. Then when I try to add the playlists and update the sync mode, it shuts my computer down. iTunes also shut my computer down when I tried to update the software on my iPod. I didn't have any problems until I upgraded to ver.7. Any ideas or suggestions???

As for your computer shutting down when iTunes is open... You may want to post in the iTunes forum or search the Discussions and see if anything similar has come up, and if there are any solutions.
Do you ever have iTunes open when the iPod is not connected? If so, does your computer shut down? Or does it only shut down when you connect your iPod?

  • Virus scan wont complete - shuts computer down

I try to keep my computer as clean as possible, but no matter what I do, there are CONSTANT issues with these things.  Im on my third thinkpad now, the T430, and this one is no exception.  Several glitches have begin to arrise and when I do a Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan, it shuts my computer down when it gets to around 180000 files scanned.  Could this be a virus doing it?  I have re-formatted to factory settings several times, but no windows OS disk to do a re-install.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks all, have a great night.

    Looking at your first post.
What do you mean "re-formatted to factory settings"?
If you created the recovery DVD's you can do a clean install but I would wipe the partitons first before installing it again. If you did not created them. You'll have to order a set.
What OS are you using? You may have a driver issue but there isn't anywhere near enough information. All I can say is to do a clean re-installation from the Lenovo DVD's for that model and test and take if from there. If Malware crashes it in Enhance Normal mode you likely have a hardware problem. But do the test before any other software is installed. It should run normally with the factory image installed.

    Hello Kking317
If any application is stuck, you can Force Quit the application and then you can restart.

  • Error message: File can't be opened right now because it's being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete.

I recently transferred some data from my external hard drive to my desktop, but there was an error transferring some of the files and it couldn't respond, and eventually i simply removed the external hard drive. However, the folder/files are still on my desktop, and when i try to move them or delete them, this error message appears:
“-folder/file name-” can’t be opened right now because it’s being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete.
Since I removed the external hard drive before the files were finished transferring, there is no way for the current task to be completed. How can I resolve this and delete the folders/files from my desktop?

I just managed to resolve this by going to the apple sign in the top left, choosing force quit (or you could do option+command+esc), then i chose finder, and i clicked relaunch. After relaunching finder, the error message doesn't appear anymore, and I could move these files/folders, and delete them just fine.
Hope this will help other people who encounter similar problems in the future!

  • Currently on Mountain Lion. Tried to upgrade to Yosemite. Computer is now locked onto OSX installation page. No access to finder or anything. Have to push off button to shut computer down.

iMac running Mountain Lion.... Yesterday, I tried to upgrade to Yosemite. System seemed to be upgrading. However, the OSX installation window is now frozen on the computer with the blue bar showing installation complete. I do not have access to even the finder. Force quitting with keys is not working. The only way I can shut the computer down is to hold down the on/off button. Restarting brings up the same frozen OSX installation window. What to do?

    There are three ways:
    A. Reinstalling Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    B. Install or Reinstall from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    C. Internet Recovery
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Bex Analyzer Shuts itself down when filter is used

    Hi,
I have created a Query on a Cube in BI7.0. When I try to filter some fields  (for Eg:- "Product Description" or  "Client Name") in BEX Analyzer, I am getting the following errors, and Analyzer shuts itself down:
RSBOLAP                      000  Program Error in Class SAPMSSY1 method: UNCAUGHT _EXCEPTION
SDB_ORA_EXCEPTION  102  An error occurred in the program
    RS_EXCEPTION             000  ORA-20000:Insufficient previleges ORA-06512:at "SYS.DBMS_STATS",  line2148
*However, if I am running the same query using BEX Analyzer (SAP BW 3.x), it is displaying all filter options perfectly.*
We are currently using Analyzer 7.10, Support Package 7, Patch 1, Revision 1352. Our GUI version is 7.10, File version:7100.3.11.1042, Build:1016365, Patch Level 11.
    Please guide.
    Regards,
    Krishna

It seems more kind of front end issue with BI 7.0, you can upgrade the SAP GUI 620 with latest front end patch.
Hope this will work for you...

  • PB shuts itself down when connect/disconnect the AC Adapter plug!

Have a difficult problem with my powerbook these days.
The machine works perfectly fine with the AC Adapter or on the battery alone.
But strange thing happens when I plug in the Ac Adapter to the machine, or unplug the connect from the machine, the Powerbook just shut itself down without any warning.
Some might say that it has something to do with the battery, which means I have to replace the battery. I will be more than happy to do that, because this Powerbook was built in 2004, the battery is showing some signs of aging.
According to my experiment, when I plug the connector to the machine, at a certain point, there is a electrical noise comes out from the machine, which I assume that the connector is "short-circuited". Which means I have to replace the whole DC board that will cost me £50.... -_-#
Any ideas are very appreciated!! Thanks.
    null

Which means I have to replace the whole DC board that will cost me £50...
Yes, it may well mean that. Or it may mean you need to replace your AC adapter, which would cost less. But first, can you borrow an adapter that's known to be good, just to test with?

  • SECURITY DOWNLOAD Adobe reader 9.3.1 Shut computer down?

I downloaded as prompted for a security adobe reader 9.3.1. Then restarted computer as instructed. It shut my computer down with error bad_poop_header. stop: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0xE1982000,0xE1982108, 0x0c210200). What is wrong with this download on window xp?

Even if you spelled it right or wrong, we have no idea what it represents. The data would have to be put into a compiler of the program to find the error. Since you have the free Reader (as everyone has said, related to the Reader forum, not this one), it is probably simplest to simply uninstall the current version, use the MS install cleanup utility to clean your system, then download Reader fresh and install again.

  • My G4 forces me to shut it down when I copy files.

Hello, yesterday I tried to copy some files and as the transfer was about to be completed, I got halted and a screen message appeared in 4 languages forcing me to shut down the computer. A similar message had only appeared twice in the last couple of months, but I didn't pay any attention, since the system worked fine after restart. (I have been using G4 for more than 8 years).  But now every time I try to copy any kind of files from anywhere to anywhere, just as it is about to be competed, I get the same "shut down" screen. Any ideas how to resolve this, preferably without format? I have many un-backed up files, and I can't transfer them! Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
REpair the other drive also & report any errors.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Copy problems in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • Shutdown restarts after a few minutes and sleep shuts computer down.

When I shutdown my computer, the shutdown process starts, computer goes into "logging off"  and continues for a few minutes before restarting automatically. When I go into "sleep mode" ,  computer appears to go into the proper mode, but a few minutes later, shuts down. When I log on again, Windows advises that I had an abnormal shutdown.  Sleep and shutdown appear to have reversed for some reason.

  • Is it harmful to always leave several programs open and never shutting computer down?

I never shut down my computer and simply let it to sleep.  I also let it sleep and leave several programs like illustrator open all the time.  Is this good for the computer or should I be closing down applications regularly?

If your system is powered through an uninterruptible power
source, there is no issue at all.
If not, there is always the possibility of something going bad
should a power outage occur.  This is true whether apps are
open or not.  Modern systems can recover from such an event,
but nothing is totally bulletproof to such an event.
