Command to turn on/off VoiceOver

Is there a command to turn on and off Voiceover in universal access?

With the simple command "screenreaderd" you can turn VoiceOver on and off.
But it runs in the foreground.
You can start the deamon and put it in the background with "screenreaderd &". For killing the daemon use fg and controll+d,

  • Terminal command to turn on/off iCloud syncing?

I'm a musician using my MacBook Pro on gigs and lately I've been experiencing some glitching in my audio that I believe is related to sync services or other processes that Mavericks uses to communicate with iCloud.  Googling, I saw references to an issue with AddressBookSync using lots of CPU.  I followed the tips in a thread about resolving that and I believe they are resolved, however for peace of mind I am still turning off iCloud before every gig I do, and it's a bit of a pain – you have to deal with a succession of alerts.  And I'm not even sure this is actually turning off these processes.
I'm hoping someone knows a terminal command that I can run before every gig to just shut all that stuff down temporarily.  TIA for any help!

Thanks for another idea, which makes sense except I believe that turning off wifi doesn't actually stop the processes from running - they simply attempt to connect, then exit when there is no response – at least that's what I surmise from looking at the Console log.
I may be barking up the wrong tree anyway.  I didn't mention the actual issue except to say "glitching in my audio" but it's threatening to have me abandon my laptop music rig which I've been using very successfully on gigs for the last eight years, over three laptops.  Googling has given me only a few clues (one of them being the subject of this thread) but I may post the actual issue in another thread.  Thanks again for your efforts to be helpful, I really do appreciate it.

  • Safari 6 and password saving. How do I turn it off?

How do you stop Safari 6 from saving passwords? I can't seem to find a setting to turn it off completely. Without the setting it bugs me every time I enter a username and password on a website. I don't want Safari to save my passwords and I don't want it to ever ask me to save passwords.
If there isn't a we to turn it off in the UI is there a terminal command to turn it off? It is extremely annoying.

Same issue - for the most part I don't want Safari to save userId's or passwords.  So the brute force will work.  I would prefer the ability to specify just the VERY FEW sights I'd like saved.  That is "Save ONLY these passwords"
Any chance the is a way to do thiw with Mountian Lion?

    Hi, benson -
If it is a matter of VoiceOver being turned on when you press Shift-S, you can change the keyboard command key combo for that. Open System Preferences, select the Keyboard item. In the new window, click the Keyboard Shortcuts button.
In the left list, click Universal Acess. In the new list on the right, be sure the last item, "Turn VoiceOver on or off", is checkmarked, then click the command-key setting on the right of that line. A small text box will open - enter the new command-key combo you wish to reset it to.
Suggestion - the original setting for that is Command-F5 (that's the number 5, not the letter S). Unless you have a particular need to use Command-F5 for something else, I would reset it to that. If you do need to set it to something else, include the Command-key as part of the combo - doing so prevents accidental activation when using routine keyboard strokes.

  • Is there a way to turn on/off 3G for iPhone 4S with a voice command and/or without Siri?

For example, I almost always have 3G turned off on my iPhone 4S so that I won't use any of my cellular data when not needed. However, when I'm driving, and I need to use Maps for directions, it would be nice to unlock the iPhone by voicing my PIN and using a voice command to turn on 3G and accessing Maps.
Is there already a way to do this? I know that accessing applications via Siri will be capable when iOS 6 is released.
Voice Control should also be set to the default voice-command option when Siri is either off or when the iPhone does not currently have access to the internet. Because Siri requires the internet, Voice Control could be used to unlock the iPhone and turn on 3G. Once 3G is turned on, Siri can take over (if Siri is turned on in Settings) to access an application, like Maps. When finished, there should be a voice command that will "turn off 3G."
So, here's how the whole process could work:
    1) hold Home button to access Voice Control and respond with PIN to unlock the iPhone - "one, two, three, four" or "twelve, thirty-four" for PIN 1234 (I'm not sure if people would want to say, "one thousand, two-hundred, thirty-four")
    2) once unlocked, it should intuitively stay on Voice Control so the user can say "turn on 3G"
    3) if Siri is enabled, it will take over Voice Control; if Siri is disabled, Voice Control will remain active, bu you should also have the voice-command option to "turn on Siri" (now that 3G is on)
    4) a voice command to "launch Maps" - I know that this will capable with iOS 6
    5) when done, hold Home button and voice a command to "turn off 3G" via Siri
Could this feature please be integrated into iOS 6?
In terms of driving and accessing Maps, this would be a lot safer and a lot easier.
    Thanks!

  • Unix command to turn OFF Software Update

I've browsed through the networksetup -help and the systemsetup -help files and can't find anything that would allow me to send a unix command that would turn automatic software update off? Anyone got any thoughts?

    Send:
    softwareupdate --schedule off
and that is indeed a doubled hyphen in front of "schedule".
The command is user specific, so you would have to turn it off for every user on the system. I don't know of a global way to turn it off for all users at once.
    Regards.

  • Command to turn off Bluetooth via ARD

I'd like to turn off Bluetooth and Airport via ARD on all of my Macs (all running Leopard) that don't need them.
I can do this for Airport using networksetup -setairportpower off, but I can't find a similar command for Bluetooth. I don't really want to completely disable it so I'd like to leave the kernel extensions intact, just turn it off. Does such a command exist?

you can install bueutil on all macs and use that.

I don't know any other way to turn bluetooth off/on from command line.

  • HT204390 How do I turn off Voiceover?

My screen is black and I can't open my iPad. How do I Open my iPad and turn off Voice Over?

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.
To turn off VoiceOver go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off.

  • What is this black dialog bar and how do I turn it off?

I started up my MBP today and found this little piece of garbage on the screen, telling me what I'm doing. I just updated my software last night, including iTunes; is this some crappy part of an OS X update? It happens when I have all applications closed, as well.
Strange thing is, it wasn't happening when I first restarted my computer after installing the new software updates. Does anyone know what this is and how I can close it?

You pressed command-F5 and turned on VoiceOver. Press it again, or go to System Preferences -> Universal Access -> Seeing and turn it off.
