"command-z" and "option-command-z" does nothing in Final Cut Pro 5

My iMac is new and I have Final Cut Pro 5 installed. Cannot get "command-z" to undo anything in final cut and "option-command-z" will not open an audio file in wave format. Do these functions just not work in Final Cut?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

opt-cmd-z is "trim with edit selection audio"
After checking the keyboard settings in System Prefs on my MAC I don't see a universal UNDO command in there. It seems that cmd-z is just a common keyboard shortcut used in most apps. (Although Shake doesn't like it very much...) lilrad should check the Tools menu-Keyboard Layouts-Customize, and then click on the cmd and opt icons on the digital keyboard and see what icon it shows. If it is not set, there ya go. If you don't recognize the icon, try going to a command in the side button list (to the right of thte keyboard in this window) and click on a command that does not already have a shortcut. Type the cmd-z, or opt-cmd-z, (after unlocking the keyboard at the bottom left) and it will give you a warning as to what this keystroke is already set for.
There should not be any MAC override, but if there is that would be in the system settings window under keyboard and mouse, keyboard shortcuts. Scroll down and see if someone has set a master cmd-z shortcut. If so, get rid of it. It should be an undo command for all apps. (But that's just me, I could be wrong...)

I have a newer MacBook Pro and I am trying to download my Final Cut Pro 7 Studio 2 on it. Is that possible or does the new MacBook Pro not support anything other than Final Cut Pro X?

As Tom said the FCS forum is the better place to post the question.
Here is Apple's best practices doc for installing both on the same system.
BTW, FCP7 is part of the FCS 3 suite of apps.

  • Macbook pro does not support Final Cut Pro preview on external monitor?

I have been editing on Final Cut Pro from my imac for approx 1 year with an external monitor attached with no problems. I recently bought a macbook pro, for Final Cut Pro editing, and discovered that the monitor does not work. The Final Cut Pro preview on the external monitor freezes and in the preview pane of FCP it flick between two images.
I have been reading around some forums, and have seen a couple of people with the same problem.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to run the external monitor with FCP?
    Thanks!

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.
    I hope this helps you.

  • I updated to Yosemite and now I can't open my final cut pro - I had 10.0.9 now says I need 10.10 . Help me update without having to pay again for final cut

Russ, Adam, thank you very much!
First, I deleted the flexiolibrary, then the library opened in FCPX, but there were missing projects. Then I launched the latest backup and all worked well.
    Thank you veeery much again!

  • Losing picture quality when doing slideshows with Final Cut Pro

Whenever I put images in final cut and export them, the quality of the images look utter garbage. The pictures im taking are 2848X4288. Whatever Frame Size I make and whenver i Export them, the images doesnt look as sharp.
Could anyone suggest that I do something so I can keep the same quality of pictures?
    thanks!

I'd size them down in Photoshop, to match your sequence settings aspect ratio, or a bit larger if you want to zoom in/out or pan/scan.
You can adjust them to 72dpi for use in SD video...not sure about HD.

  • HT5052 How can I get ios 5 for my iPod Touch without downloading iTunes 11? iTunes 10 and above screw up .mov readibility in Final Cut Pro, so I do not want to update iTunes.

Any iTunes above 10 will screw up .mov accessibility in FCP, so I do not want to download iTunes 11 just to get this iPod Touch updated to 5 or 6.
Can I download the update some other way?

If you have a 4G iPod (one with cameras) you can only go to iOS 6.2.1 and that requires iTunes 10.7 or above.
If you have a 3G you can go to 5.5.1 with iTunes 10.5 or later.
    A 2G can only go to 4.2.1

you can update on another computer with the right version of iTunes but you will not be able to sync with your computer unless you update iTunes on your computer.

  • Log & Capture Screen not opening and Final Cut Pro just quits! HELP!

    Hi everyone,
I've been searching through the forums and reading up on similar issues but to no avail my problem still exists and I'm about to put a hammer to my computer. I have a G5 Mac at work and use my G4 for home use. Earlier today I was at work and was capturing my footage perfect using my Canon XH A1 using firewire and everything went well. Later on in the day when working on my G4, using the same settings and equipment from earlier, when I hit apple+8 it shows that the program is understanding my command but after a min without a screen appearing, final cut pro just quits. Now I've tried everything from deleting my preferences, final cut user data, you name it and I've tried yet still not able to get the screen to capture. I've even tried switching the firewire port just in case its a bad connection and still nothing. Can someone help me out so my computer can live to see another day.
    Thank You

    You updated to 10.5?
What FCP 5 version are you running -5.0 or 5.1?
You need 5.1 if you have Mac OS X 10.5.
Also, get rid of the Norton AV -it's a terrible resource hog and interferes with everything.
I would go as far as to suggest Norton is trying to check the incoming data from your video capture.
Turn it off at least, and see if there is any improvement.
If you must use AV to avoid passing something to Windows users, get a free copy of ClamXav. It can be set to check only incoming stuff like Mail and downloads. Has a very small footprint and is only active when it should be. I use ClamXav myself as I often deal with FTP transfers.

  • HT201109 Final Cut Pro 10.1 crashes with Motion 5.1 custom Scrolling text and Graphics titles

    Dec 29, 2013 1:33 PM
found out why Final Cut 10.1 won't load my custom titles without crashing. When scrolling text in Motion 5.1 if you ad a graphic to scroll with the text Final Cut 10.1 will crash. If I remove the graphic in Motion and then load it into Final Cut 10.1 it will work.
So Graphics and scrolling do not work. The graphics are .jpg, .png, .tiff, .psd. I don't know how to fix it. Hopefully someone out there does.

Thanks Tom for the advice. I have four external hard disks, all of them formatted with Mac OS Extended Journaled. On all devices (2TB) I have more than half free space. They are connected either with Thunderbolt or USB3 cables. Different manufactures:  LaCie, Toshiba, WD and Samsung. I face the same crash problem if I connect a UBS drive 16GB or a any other device to the USB ports including the Sony Video camera connected with a USB1 cable. Same problem on ALL my computers! To work properly, I have to disconnect all USB devices and work only with internal hard disks. I also tried to format the MacbookPro (erasing the partitions with a new installation) but I have the same problem. I really lost hope...

  • Final Cut Pro X and 4:3 monitor

Hi, I'm sorry for my bad English!
I need an help about my 4:3 monitor and my MacPro.
I am a Final Cut Pro user... When I used Final Cut Pro 7, the software was perfect in my 1024*768 screen resolution.
Now, with Final Cut Pro X my monitor doesn't show all the window and I have to move the window to see the rest of the window.
Is there any solution, as letterbox the monitor? I can't spend any money for a new monitor and work with Final Cut in this way is very impossibile.
Apple didn't think to users with an old monitor!!!
    Help me! Thank you.

  • Final Cut Pro X and 7 on same system

I am using Final Cut Pro 7 and I was not very keen on Final Cut Pro X when I tried it out.
However, I have just learned that it could be advantageous workwise if I am prepared to work on some FCPX projects.
I'm just curious to know if it is safe to run both applications on the same system; e.g. do they share preference files? Do they use the same plugins folder etc.?
I know that in the past (and I mean the distant past) I have had problems trying to run different versions of the same software in the same machine and I'm too comfortable with FCP7 to just leap into working with an application about which I got an unfavourable impression and which many fellow professionals have told me instigated a move to Premiere.
Can somebody give me some definitive advice, please?

Yes it's safe and no they don't use same plug-ins.
I'm running FCS3 and FCPX, Motion5, Compresor 4 on two systems. No problems.
Bets would be to follow these steps – the same start-up explanation.

Trash preferences and repair permissions in Disk Utility.
If that doesn't free Share up I'd drag app to trash, reinstall it and run repair permissions again.
    Good luck.

  • Provide Feedback for the Final Cut Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Final Cut Pro would like to know what you think about the Final Cut Pro 5 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about it most?
    • What is missing?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • By what method do you usually learn a new application? For example: provided tutorials and manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under
what circumstances do you use it most?
Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final
Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index,
    skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    Search.
    • What do you like about it most?
Ease of use to get through the manual instead of going through the books themselves.
    • What is missing?
Better organization of the search results. Again, if I search Nests, make the first set of results the answers that actually show me how to use the tool, not the 50 times it appears in the table of contents and indexes.
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
documentation that you consider to be good models for
the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
Honestly, Apple's is the best I've seen for the moment.
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Just crack the app open and start. Use websites like the Creative Cow for more input and ideas.
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book
to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do
you feel the book provided a good introduction to the
    application?
I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
Search results using the Help menu.
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
Actually both. If the electronic search gets too frustrating, I'll pull the print manual out to find what I really need.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
Not really. Internet based help is always nice, but I don't keep my FCP workstations connected to the web so that would actually create a bigger hassle for us.
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    17" Powerbook display, 17" 20" and 23" Apple Displays and a 17" Sony Display.
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    Highest resolution for that monitor.
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    Yes. 23 & 17" on one G5. 20 & 17" on the 2nd G5. 17" Powerbook
Powerbook G4 17, G5 Dual 2.0, G5 Dual 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) AJA Kona 2 on both G5's, Fibre Channel and SATA arrays in use.

  • HT4722 I work for a non-profit and need to purchase Final Cut Pro X tax free. How do I do that?

The Mac App store doesn't offer tax-free purchases, and besides, I'd prefer to order Final Cut Pro from a business with a phone number and address... the mac app store makes it difficult to find those details (which our accounting department requires). What should I do?

The application is only sold through the App Store. The price is fixed in the store. Recovery of state sales taxes can only be done through the state's revenue service. Apple, like Amazon, will not involve itself in determining tax free status.
The phone number and address are readily available on the Apple web site.
