Commenting tools available with SDK in v. 9?
I have an application which opens a PDF file in Acrobat, using the SDK, and allows the user to add comments/annotations and then save the document. I have been unable to use Acrobat 7 or 8 in my application because the commenting toolbar is unavailable unless a comment repository has been configured - this is unsuitable to my application, I need the changes to be saved directly to the PDF on the users's computer.
I wonder if anyone can confirm or deny that this behavior will be the same in Acrobat 9. My users are having problems because they are stuck using Acrobat 5 or 6, both of which have stability and compatibility issues.
Thanks to any who can give information.
Leonard,
I have seen several articles indicating that Adobe has announced an Acrobat 9 release in the next few months. Here are two of the most definite:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/04/01/piper_on_iphone_shortage_as_update_sign_acro bat_9_for_mac_soon.html
http://www.planetpdf.com/enterprise/article.asp?ContentID=This_week_in_PDF_-_PDF_Office_Su ite_and_details_on_Acrobat_9_released
I was assuming there would likely be some folks reading this forum who have seen the product in beta. Sorry if I didn't make that assumption clear.
With regard to your other questions, I am using the methods documented in the Acrobat Interapplication Communication Reference, specifically the OpenInWindowEx method of the AcroExch.AVDoc class. And no we are not using Adobe Reader, we are using the full Acrobat product.
I'm not sure how to answer your request for more information about my application details. As I said, the application displays a PDF file in a window, using the API calls mentioned above, the user adds comments to the PDF and the application causes the changes to be saved by invoking the appropriate API call. I can't think of any other information that would be relevant, regarding how our application works.
The OpenInWindowEx method, when used with Acrobat 7 or 8, will cause an Acrobat window to appear, but without commenting tools, unless a "comment repository" has been configured in the Acrobat preferences. I don't have the relevant version of Acrobat installed, so I can't be more specific than that at the moment. The use of a comment repository is totally unsuitable to the nature of my application, as I stated before, so I am stuck using older versions of Acrobat.
Thanks for your reply and for your attempt to help. Let me know if my answer has not cleared things up.

Need help creating PDF w/ comment tools available in Reader!!
I'm trying to create a PDF that you can use the "comment" and other proofing tools in Reader. I've tried using Acrobat Pro to adjust the settings so the "comment" and other tools are available in Reader but it isn't working.
Here's what I'm really trying to do (if anyone might have an amazing idea). My company produces a 1300 pg catalog that the entire departmentaround 20 people in totalhave to proof. In an effort to reduce how much paper we use in our proofing process I'm trying to move the department to an "electronic" proofing process as much as possible.
I know that in Acrobat Pro you can comment and mark up a PDF and that you're able to do the same in Acrobat Reader (only the artist have Pro, the rest of the department just has Reader). I just can't seem to find a way to take my InDesign document and allow the "comment" tool to be accessible in Reader.
Anyone know? I know there is a "Review" session thing you can set up, but that's turning into a huge pain since Adobe doesn't want to work with our Mac based network...blah blah, way over my head.
Thanks for the help! (Sorry to be so long winded...)
Cara BrookeI suspect I already know the answer to this question; however I'll ask anyway in case I'm incorrect. Our Trust only supplies Acrobat 8 Standard or the standalone reader application. Is it possible to use Acrobat 8 Standard to enable a .pdf for commenting in Reader 6+?

Cara BrookeOpen the PDF in Acrobat Pro 7 or later.
Under the
Comments menu, select
Enable Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader....
This will spawn an
Save As... dialog. Save to a new filename is recommended (such as
[filename] for review.pdf), although you can save over the existing file if you choose or to another location.
Send the resulting PDF for review.
So long as the reviewer has access to Acrobat Reader 7 or later (or whatever version your Acrobat Pro is), there should not be any issues with them adding comments.
I use this all the time, exchanging files for review between Dallas, TX (on OSX) and Birmingham, AL (on Windows).
Older versions of Acrobat Reader will not work.

In my application is designed with Flex3, ActionScript3, BlazeDS Remote Objects.
Just i tried with OPENSTA but i cant do the dynamic parameterization in their generated scripts because the response of the calls is binary values and also we cant get the response using with SCL language.
While testing with OPENSTA with HttpService, i can do the dynamic parameterization and got the response.
can give the information about the below questions
whether we can do dynamic parameterization with OPENSTA for Flex Remote objects?
and what are the better load/performance tools available for Flex Remote Objects?Your approach is fine, depending on how many and what type of CFCs you are talking about. If they are "singletons" - that is, only one instance of each CFC is needed to be in memory and can be reused/shared from multiple parts of your application - caching them in the application scope is common. Just make sure they are thread safe ("var" or local.* all your method variables).
You might consider taking advantage of a dependency injection framework, such as DI/1 (part of the FW/1 MVC framework), ColdSpring, or WireBox (a module of the ColdBox platform that can be used independently). They have mechanisms for handling and caching singletons. Then you wouldn't have to go to the application scope to get your CFC instances.

Allignment tool not available with the Student Version?
Is the Allignment tool not available with the Student Version? It appears to be clickable yet no action… Is there a preference I'm missing?
Shawn,
Educational is a full version.
You need to select (at least) two objects, then apply the deired Align operation(s).
If something is really wrong, you may have a look at the list below.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Enabling Commenting Tools in embedded mode
We have own plug-in which provides collaboration capabilities for reviewing documents introducing custom annotations with categorization based on standard Acrobat annotation feature. However Commenting tool is not available in post 6 Acrobat versions when Acrobat runs in embedded mode. I suspect that Adobe suppressed the feature to avoid competition from similar to our solutions. Adobe also discontinued earlier Acrobat versions so our big customers have quite serious problem now, because they can't buy newer Acrobat . . So I am interested if somebody from Adobe senior level engineering or sales reads the forum and can contact me to resolve the issue. Again if some developers know how to enable Commenting tool from plug-in when Acrobat is running embedded, then please share your experience.
I'm not certain drog is going to get what he want here. It sounds like he doesn't want to write a plugin to create Adobe annotations, but rather his plugin is capturing annotation information when the Adobe tools place and/or modify annotations.
That's not going to work in a browser unless Adobe changes what's allowed in the browser. If I'm not mistaken, Adobe tools will not create or modify annotations when the PDF is viewed in a browser. The user can always save the file to disk and open it directly with Acrobat (or Reader if it's comment enabled) to get access to the Adobe commenting tools.
Perhaps that's what drog should do - have his plugin give instructions to the user to save to disk and open directly with Acrobat/Reader. It's fairly simple to recognize when the PDF is viewed in a browser. If this approach is not acceptable to his workflow, then drog is going to have to re-invent the wheel and write a custom annotation handler to add/modify annotations.
Hope this helps -
MOSS 2007- Migration Tools available for data extraction
Hi All,
I am working on MOSS 2007. I need export entire data from sharepoint portal to excel files. The data could be from Lists, Libraries, Content Types, Static Page data etc. The amount of data is huge.
1) Is there any migration tool available for such extraction? Kindly suggest.
2) Also is it possible to search for data in entire web site based on the content type?
Thanks.Hi,
We don't have ready script, you might have to modify one.

Adobe Reader XI: Can't customize comment tools on main top bar menu
Hello,
I just noticed that it is not possible to customize the top bar menu in Adobe Reader XI specifically for the "Comment tools".
By Default the only tools available on the top bar menu are:
1) add sticky note
2) highlight text
I would like to add, for example, the text correction markup or the Draw free form.
I think this is a basic feature that should be included in Adobe Reader and it is convenient for editors as it would save some time avoding clicking on the comment bar to switch from a tool to the other.
is this possible? Is there any way to add all the favourite comments tools on the top bar menu?
thanks in advanceI am posting this reply AGAIN
My first reply was empty because i responded to the email I received saying this thread (is that the right terminology?) was updated. Obviously that email didn't get added, just a blank line....
Then I replied to this thread directly on Friday and that seems to have disappeared. Maybe I just don't know how to use a computer? Better sell the technology company I own LOL.
Ok so it seems the screen is normal, (not maximized). When I unlock and drop my start bar to one row, then the top of the screen pops down to inside my visible monitor space and it is not maximized. This allows me to drag it to another monitor and then maximize it there, then put my start bar back and relock it. This is the only way I can move the window, if I don't shrink my start bar, then I have zero access to the top bars of the document!
Currently I can not reproduce the problem ( I might have temporarily fixed it with my start bar reducing and then moving documents), so maybe it is permanently fixed....
Maybe a reboot will bring the problem back... It has been intermittent for about 6 months. -
Is there any Scripting tool available?
Hi,
I am brand new to Web AS and wondering is there any command line scripting tool available within Web AS? For example, something similar to BEA's WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) that is based on Jython or IBMs WebSphere Administrative (wsadmin) that is based on Jacl and Jython.
Any input/comments/pointers are much appreciated.http://bivald.com/lessons-learned/2007/08/flash-media-server-ide.html
or if above link fails, try this
http://www.igorcosta.org/?p=151
Yes, I believe you can use any text editor, including a javascript editors to write serverside AS, but may not get intellisense in most of those editors while coding.
check the above links for a development IDE with intellisense enjoy

User Comment field available for reporting?
User Comment field available for reporting?
When doing custom reporting against requests with reportable dictionaries we have a user request to also include the user comments. How do I reference / point to the comments field for a request? If you are referring to the comments which are added in the Comments and History section of a requisition, this information is not migrated to the datamart and is not reportable.
If, on the other hand, you are referring to a comments field that you have included in a dictionary on the service form, that information will be available in the datamart so long as that dictionary has been made reportable. -
Can commenting tools be used for a PDF document created by scanning another document?
I have Adobe Reader X. It has commenting tools. I
created a PDF file by scanning another docu
ment (a newpaper clipping) to the PDF file for an attachment to an Email. I am not able to use the highlighting tool on the new PDF document. Since I was the author of the PDF document in this case (but obviously did not use Adobe Acrobat to create it), can I somehow enable use of commenting tools for the document? The highlight tool works for highlighting text that is in the document (as text objects). Images of text, which is what you get with a scan, cannot be highlighted with this tool, even if you had Acrobat.

Laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0
today I just updated the system and my laptop runs dramatically hotter after that. I read the archwiki, it does talk about the laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0 but when I opened the file /usr/sbin/laptop_mode, the lines which the wiki mentions are not there. Does anyone here have the same problem and can you offer the solution?

esacI had the problem but edited the line in /usr/sbin/laptop_mode and it worked. But thoes lines are not there anymore. I guess they changed it at the recent update of laptop-mode-tools.
Regarding your heat problem; is there any other thing you use to cut down power usage (from AUR maybe)? I use acpi_call from AUR had to edit lines there aswell, but it should be updated by now. -
What are the third party tools available for Encryption in Oracle database?
Dear All,
Can you please help me with the below question?
What are the third party tools available for Encryption in Oracle database? Please let me know if you know their feedback and also licensing/cost informationWhy would you spend money to purchase a third-party tool that will be, almost by definition, less secure than the tools inside the product you already own and paid for?
http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/pkgs/dbms_crypto.html
But were I to have any to recommend one I would not do so without knowing information you seem to consider unimportant such as:
1. Operating system
2. Database edition and version
3. What type of data needs to be secured
4. What level of security is required -
Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using
We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer. Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
OS: Windows 2000 SP4
Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
Steps to produce the problem.
1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)". The icons will be shown.
6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools. That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes. -
Is there a tool available that can be executed by another process to scale the actual size of the printed PDF file by X%? We are attaching PDF files to printed output using the Oracle DocuMaker product, and are running into margin issues with the attached PDF. We need to keep a 3/4 inch margin on our pages for sorting/finishing equipment, and the attached PDFs do not all conform to our margin requirements.
What email program are you using? And what do you mean by "Safari mail"?
