Comments not visible in Acrobat

I'm running Acrobat 9 Standard ver. 9.4.1 on 64 bit Windows 7 SP1.
I received a PDF map that is supposed to have Comments in it, but they are not visible in the map portion of the PDF.
They appear in the Comments "Section", but when I click on the comment, an empty box outline is displayed on the map, but not actual comments.
This same error happens with a colleague who is using Ver. 9.5.5.
We can both see the comments correctly displayed on the map using Adobe Reader!
So why won't the same comments show up correctly in Adobe Acrobat?

The files are not secured.  Some of the files are part of a pdf portfolio, where the portfolio is a mixture of pdfs created/scanned in 8 and pdfs created/scanned in X and combined into a pdf portfolio by X.  The troubled X files are not visible in 8 as standalone files or as files inside the portfolio.  Some of the files have never been combined into a portfolio and are not visible to 8.
It does not happen to all of the scans.  Some scans done by X are visible in 8 and others are not, even though the scan settings used are the same.  Strangely, all of the files, whether visible in 8 or not, are visible in X.  The lack of visibility in 8 occurs across multiple machines using 8, not just one machine, and the same pattern occurs across multiple machines running 9.
I have examples of the files, but they contain private information.  One such file is two pages.  It is a standalone file, not a pdf portfolio.  The second page is visible in 8, but the first page is not; both pages are visible in X.  If I delete the second page (confidential information) and post the file, will the second page be visible by any means?
Additionally, the file pages are enormous to print even though they were scanned at 400 dpi, color, jpeg2000, jbig2 (lossy), deskew on, background removal off, descreen on, text sharpening, low.  The first page was 63.7 MB to print and the second page was 97.2 MB to print.  The entire file is only 1913 KB.
Do you think that I have a bad install and should just uninstall and reinstall?

    Hi,
Can you please check once if your comments are being saved in PDF? Add a comment or other annotation to the pdf, close it and open again to see if these are being saved? If these are getting saved, try sending again through email and see if they work now or not. Please try and share.

  • 3D Autocad drawing not visible in Acrobat 3D

I have a 3D Autocad .dwg file which had been converting to Acrobat 3D, but  now that I've added some items on the drawing, it appears blank in Acrobat. Smaller 3D files works OK. Is this a known issue with Acrobat 3D?

i'm having the same problem here.. running on CS5 Extended.. the 3D Axis, Ground Plane, etc are all greyed out.. 3D -> New Shape From Layer won't give me the 3D Axis and the rendered subject looks 2D.. i've tried all Basic, Normal & Advanced settings but to no avail.. i even updated my graphics driver to the latest driver but still the same...
    my specs,
    Intel Core i5 2410-M

i doubt that my graphics card can't handle the 3D rendering, as the updated driver addressed the 3D support for Photoshop CS5.... plz help.. thanx..

  • Document message bar not visible when participating in Shared Review

    Hi,
I have initiated a Shared Review using Acrobat Pro 8
Immediately after I finished sending out the notification to other reviewers, the _Review.pdf version of the document is opened for me and the Document Message bar is visible. Therefore I have the option to check for new comments, publish comments.
My colleagues however, when they open the pdf file attachment from their email notification they get the message: "This document has been sent by a user of Acrobat 8.0 Professional for your review. To participate in this review Acrobat 8.0 standard or professional, or later, is required" Pressing OK on that message box opens up the PDF file to be reviewed however the Document Message bar is not visible (there is no Document Message bar icon on the left pane either.). Therefore my colleagues cannot publish their comments.
I also encountered the same issue. After I close my PDF and re-open it, I cannot see the Document Message bar, eventhough I can still see my Review Tracker and the document still listed there.
So, what did I do wrong? I started the shared review by following the prompts:
    1. Comments > Send for Shared Review
    2. Enable reviewers with Reader to participate
    3. Select a network drive to store the shared comments
    4. Select the document to be reviewed
    5. I've experiment with all the different send notifications options
    6. I specified the email address of the reviewers and sent the invite
Thanks a lot for the help..

Does this happen with one particular document or with all your reviews?

  • Digital signature not visible

For 4 months the visible signature worked perfect.
But today when I make a visible signature it is not visible.
It seems to be kind of periodic:
I tried one PDF document, and the visible signature was not visible
Then I tried with another document, and the first time the signature was visible.
When I tried more times on the original second document, the signature was every time invisible.
I use Windows 7, 32 bit, and Adobe Acrobat XI 11.0.10.
    Regards Finn

I use digital signature with certificate.
I don't know why I got the idea that the signature was there, but invisible.
I can now see that I still have the possibility to sign the document where the signature is "invisible", this indicates of course that there is no signature.
And there is no signatures in the Signature panel.
However, this is what I see:
I press the icon "Digitally sign document"
I drag with the mouse to select the area for the signature
In the dialog box "Sign document" I choose reason, and click "Sign"
I choose a name for the signed document
I give the code for the certificate(at this time the signature is visible on the document)
After this there is no signature but the ducument was saved with the new file name
I don't get any error mesages during this
But in the dialog box "Sign document" I now tried to press the "Review" button
    and I get the message:
    Report code          Description
2007                    Page content may silently change
1001                    Comment or form field may silently change
1002                    Comment or form field may silently change
    Does this information help?

  • Plugin not visible in Reader even after Certificate

I have made a Plug-in and have taken Digital certificate from Adobe. I am using SignPlugin to register and is getting the message "Plug-in name Successfully Reader- Enabled". Strangly  still not finding Plugin in the Reader although is visible in Acrobat Pro.
One Problem I faced when converting from pro to Reder when I added "READER_PLUGIN" in the preprocessor as per documention. I start getting error for my earlier used method "PDDocSave(pdDoc, PDSaveCopy|PDSaveFull ,newPath, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, NULL);".
I am wondering I have taken queries for the same methos earlier alsio at "http://forums.adobe.com/thread/522488?tstart=0" , anyway   I have commented this as as per error message headers are not  matching.  Plug-in is complied without any error and works only in Pro.
Am I still missing anything. Pl help

    lrothenth,
I'm trying to help Amit with this issue.  When we applied for the certificate, there was no mention of a particular release.  When documentation and the certificate were sent, the body of the email had links for release 8 and for release 9 as to imply there were different procedures to apply based on the release being used; however, there was no mention that the certificate only worked on any given release.
I seem to remember going to the Adobe Support page and doing a general lookup for the MakeKey utility (and then downloading).  That being said, I have no idea what version was used to create the keypair.  I have subsequently pulled the MakeKey utility from the Adobe 9 SDK and have made a new key pair.
I wrote to RIKLA support on Friday asking about the release specific key and the response was - are you getting an error on the load?  If not, then your certificate should be good.  I emailed again this morning and have not heard a response as of 5:30 this evening.
I added an AVAlertNote as the first line of code in the init section.  The alert shows straight away if using Pro or the browser plug-in (which currently points to Pro).  Never shows if Reader.
One more question with regards to this, if we develop the plug-in using Adobe 9 SDK, does this mean our user base (over 3,000) will have to migrate to Reader 9 in order to use the plug-in?  Not saying this is a big issue as my guess is 95+% of the base is already using 9.  Just need to be prepared when we roll this out.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Steve

  • URLs & Links In Comments Not Clickable?

This is driving me mad. I'm working with my team and we're collaborating on a large set of documents and extensively using the comments feature of Adobe Acrobat Pro X, when I place a URL or receive a URL in a comment pane/box, the URL is not activated. The only way to see that URL is to cut and paste it into a browser—not productive nor user friendly.
Obviously, both I and my team don't know what we're doing, so can someone please enlighten us on how to make the links/URL active and clickable?
    thanks for your help.

  • Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using

We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer.  Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
    OS: Windows 2000 SP4
    Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
    Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
    PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
    Steps to produce the problem.
    1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
    2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
    3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
    5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)".  The icons will be shown.
    6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
    7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
    8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
    9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
    10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
    11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
    12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
    13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
    14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools.

That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • Document Link Item Icon not visible at query execution

    Dear Colleagues!
How can I acheive to have the comment-icon visible when I open a query with comments in BI Portal, as a default?
I have set som settings for the properties of the Query in Query Designer. As it is now I have marked for Document Links, Master Data and Info Provider Data, under presentation of the query as a whole.
Still, when I execute, I can not see any icons. But if I enter settings in the web, and mark for Document Settings for data, the icons appear.
I do not want the customer to have to do this settings each time they ececute a query from the portal. Rather I want the Document Link Icon to be visible by default. How can I get my settings in the query designer to be counting in fromt of the settings in the template?
    Regards Silje

I figured this one out myself. There is a setting in Web Application Designer, directly on the query in question. In properties for the query I tick of "Document Links Visible".

  • Responses in PDF form are not visible

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI installed and have produced a form which can be filled in by third parties.
I have received a return in which the all of the responses are not visible unless I click in the field

Most likely, the fault lies with the application used to fill in the forms,
which is probably Apple Preview, that is known to cause this problem. You
can fix the forms with this utility:
    http://blog.practicalpdf.com/2013/08/introducing-the-practicalpdf-fix-form-utility/
And in the future instruct your users not to use Preview, but only Adobe
    Reader (or Adobe Acrobat).

  • Enable Reader Rights  for Commenting and Markup in Acrobat X Pro?

I am sure there is a nice long thread somewhere on this but I cannot find the old "Enable for Commenting and Review" in Acrobat X Pro (Windows 7, 32 bit). I get basic comments (sticky and highlight) but i need to make a PDF where my Reader X users can make all the comments and markups. I also tried doing the Send for Review task and it still did not have all the tools in Reader X.

File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting & Measuring

  • How do I validate a certificate (not visible) at the document level?

I am using Acrobat XI Pro running in Windows 8.
I created a PDF document with form fields (type: button) and JavaScript codes (field-level and document-level). Before I certify (not visible) and save the document, I want to add a document-level script that checks if the certificate is valid. If the certificate is valid, I would like to  schedule an interval object to update some of the icons in the fields. Is this possible? If so, how do I get the “certificate (not visible) field” and check that it is valid
    Thanks. - john

  • Disable Enable Commenting and Analysis in Acrobat Reader for editing

    Hello,
I want to remove "Enable Commenting and Analysis in Acrobat Reader" so I can edit the PDF with Pitstop or Advanced Editing tools, and everything gets dimmed even though I resave the file thru File > Save a Copy
How can I go about editing my PDFs after they have been enabled for Commenting in Reader?
Save a Copy is not working for me.
    Thank you

The PDF I have is generated from an application called "Rampage PDF PageAssembly"
PDF Producer: PDFlib Personalization Server 7.0.0p3 (C++/Win32)
    PDF Version: 1.6
The file contains an overprint Varnish plate.
I applied the enable commenting, but need to remove and it crashes once I use Save a Copy
    Thank you

  • Bevel & Emboss effect not visible in flattened image

I created a file in .psd, with several text layers to which I applied effects (fx) such as stroke, bevel & emboss, outer glow. When I flatten the image, the outer glow and stroke remain, but the bevel & emboss effect is gone. Type is a single color without the 3 dimensional effect.
I am also not able to preserve the bevel & emboss look when saving as a jpeg or a flattened .tif or .pdf. A saved .tif or .pdf with layers shows the effect just fine, but if the pdf is opened with Acrobat instead of Photoshop, the effect is not visible.
This must be a new problem, because I found a file that I created several years ago that is a flattened .tif with the bevel & emboss effect preserved.
I tried rasterizing the layer, and the type. Tried converting to 16 bit changing mode to CMYK, and multi-channel. Everything that involved merging layers lost the bevel & emboss effect.
Any ideas on what I can do?
    Thank you for the help!
    Cindy

    Hi Trevor,
Thank you for the help. That didn't do it, either.
I did figure it out, though. My problem was that I was making a very large image (36" x 28"), and was viewing it fit to the computer screen size. What I needed to do was view actual pixels and tune up the layer style at that size.
All is well, and I sure learned a lot!
