Comments / Suggestions

Just a few suggestions:
1. In Properties > Flex Compiler > HTML wrapper add a drop down menu to select which type of wmode (gpu, direct) etc.
2. Properties > Add a Default Size for the .swf (instead of having to add a compiler argument such as -default-size "900" "500" )
Also, I sent this to the Flash Player 10.1 forum:
Good.
1. First, thank you to the Flash Player team for fixing the H.264 issues in 10.1!! I've had a major issue with H.264 for some time now in that the H.264 files would only visually appear after 1/3rd of a file was downloaded. Now it visually appears in under 5 seconds. THANK YOU!! The quality of H.264 is far superior to .flv files so this is a MAJOR improvement in my opinion. (a long awaited improvement)
2. I also see that native scroll-wheel support is now added for OSX. That was a surprise.
Not-so-good.
1. I'm using Flex Builder Beta 2 and have a significantly complex project that involves a custom immersive-video engine, maps integration (Google) and database driven data-grids. Bad news is that, despite the significant improvements in 10.1, the map  and data-grid windows both have issues. Sometimes they don't appear at all. Sometimes the Map appears but the markers don't. Sometime the map appears but the data grid doesn't show the data.
So, I hope that when 10.1 finally gets out of beta those bugs can be found and worked out.
Best,
Jason Villmer

Hi, HELP!
I got my lac cie 1 tb hard drive in the mail today... looks real nice... but how do I hook it up to my camera Sony FX1 and my Mac Mini? The mac mini only has 1 firewire 400 port. The camera has 1 mini firewire output. the hard drive has 1 firewire 400 port, 2 800 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port.
What's the solution?
My guess is to buy a cable that has 800 connector to 400 connector. Plug the camera out put to the HD drive 400 input. then take a 800 firewire output cable from the LaCie harddrive to my Mac mini 400 firewire input port....
OR.... plug the camera output firewire into the firewire 800 port of the Hard drive, then plug the firewire 400 port from the Hard drive into the 400 firewire port on the Mac Mini...
Will it work? Which is more likely to work??? I see cables for sale at Fry's for 25 bux that offer 800 port to 400 port connectors.
Thanks for you help,

I've read a lot of comments/suggestions about camera issues that it turns black when opening the phone camera but nothing is worked for me. I'm so frustrate on my iPhone 5s im using it like for a month, I thought its more better than Samsung but I failed. Please help!!! I hope apple has something to do about this. Thanks.

I would have had the phone looked at long before a month of problems.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. You phone is under warranty and someone at an Apple store can help you.

  • Comments/Suggestions for Simple Game?

I have a super simple game I made. You can download it here:

    Anybody have suggestions/ideas?

I'd like to try something else please. The reason is as follows:
When I put in a name for the document and then scan the documents, the file still comes up as untitled. I don't get that.
When I want to rotate a page that is supposed to be landscape and do the rotation in Image Capture, all it does is cut the top and bottom out--it rotates the selection, not the image. I know I can do this in a PDF editor but why not have everything I need done in one application?
When I do want to select A4 size, I don't see it unless I hide details. Seems a bit strange.
    Thanks,
    Tony
Are you scanning into a program, or to a file? Either way, it seems to work for me with Preview. I didn’t try another app.
I can’t replicate your other problems, either. Rotation works as expected and I have both Letter and A4 available on both interfaces.
I have an Epson all-in-one, though.
Perhaps if you listed your HP model number, others with that same printer/scanner could help.
One thing to try, though. Log into another user on the Mac and try to scan. Same results?
Boot into Safe Mode and try to scan. Same results?
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Those two steps will see if the problem is system-wide or caused by some additional software you have running at startup.

  • Digital Editions, UI comments / suggestions

I looked through the recent topics here and I didn't see any about the UI, so I apologize if this has already been hashed over many times.
I've been running ADE 1.7.2.1131 for a while now, mainly for EPUB files from Project Gutenberg. I find it very nice for reading, etc. However, there are some really basic UI usability issues that prevent it from being as nice as it could be.
    * It seems to remember the font size you last used for a particular book, along with where you were last looking. Yay! That's great. However, it doesn't remember your font size as a UI preference, and it should. Every time you go to a new book you have to set the font size via the increase/decrease buttons, unless you like the default size. It should just know the size you last set, and use that by default for newly opened books.
    * In the library view, it doesn't remember the order you set for the columns. I don't ever care about publisher or status, so I would actually like to just turn those columns off. It seems to *always* set the column width to some narrow standard and doesn't remember (a) the order I last dragged them into, or (b) the width I set for them. This is really unfortunate because the time I spend doing that (every time I look at the library view) is wasted.
    * In library view, it apparently doesn't ever acquire a horizontal scroll bar, so you're stuck with sometimes very narrow (useless) columns. But maybe that would only matter if you could permanently set the column order and widths, as per my above comment.
    * When you right-click on the titles of columns in the library view you get a (useless) "Flash player settings" dialog box. What I really want is a check-list of the columns, so I can turn certain columns off.
    * Minimally, the program should remember across invocations the directory from which I last added an item to the library. It always defaults to "My Documents", a place where I never keep anything. I put all my e-books in a particular directory, and it would be most useful if the UI automatically took me there, instead of making me navigate there every time I start the program to add something.
    * It would be nice if, in addition to remembering where I last added an item, it could also figure out (because obviously it knows) whether the items in that directory are already in the library or not. Like, if I could choose a directory then push one button to add "all new items" in that directory to the library.

Thanks for the feedback. Both of these improvements are on our list.

    Comments, Suggestions please???
If I cut the costs some I may put that towards another monitor,  or perhaps
An editing keyboard specific to adobe.  I also don't want to sacrafice much performance either.

There is something mysterious in people's behaviour. If they bought something and they never experienced any problem with it, they tend to stay with that brand, but if they encountered difficulties and especially if that happened more than once, they tend to steer away from that brand. If you buy a certain brand of car and it is at the dealer for repairs more often than you like, your next car will probably be another brand.
I have had my share of problems with Seagate disks (7200.11 series that were notoriously bad and had a failure rate of more than 100% after several were replaced under warranty), so my natural tendency was to steer away from Seagate and look for other options. However, when I considered the price of their 7200.14 series, I was tempted again, but at the same time turned off by their meager 1 year warranty and the reviews on for instance NewEgg. Those reviews are generally rather meaningless, because you never know how people have handled and installed their stuff, but nevertheless it was a mark on the wall for me. In my specific case I needed 25 identical disks to start with and based on price, warranty and reputation I selected Seagate Constellation ES (the Enterprise editions) drives, which up to now have performed flawlessly for 6 months. I have to admit I have never used WD drives at all apart from the Velociraptor which is still going strong in my old system, but they seem to have a good reputation, have a nice warranty period and are somewhat reasonable priced.
I have no idea how much space you need, what future plans you have (do you need to get a parity raid in the future) and stuff like that, but WD Caviar Blacks have a solid reputation for single disk use or in striped arrays. OTOH in parity arrays they are lousy, so if you may consider a parity array on a dedicated controller, the Blacks are out.
For setting up your disks, have a look at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972

  • How do you send comments to Adobe re suggested improvements for Beta projects?

I think it's a great idea making beta projects available for testing - it just seems strange the HELP menu does not have a direct link back to developers that one can easily send comments/suggestions. I hope I'm in the right place now?
My comment with the new version is:
    - you still can't see the ACTUAL SIZE of the file, only the original size of the photo. If you have converted the RAW file...to bad.
    - you still can't find what the colour space of the photo is - can you?
These would seem to be pretty basic functions such a "high end" programme should be able to deliver.
Do like the new additions though but shame such an easy to use function such as PRINTING does not have ability to see the consequences of different 'rendering intents' on screen.

Use the beta forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3

'sed' and 'awk' are neither build nor run-time dependencies, both are install dependencies, but I did not find a proper option for that.
The (un-)install-scripts are taken from the Debian source, however with deb-packages it is obviously possible to abort  pre/post_remove on failure (here used if the keyboard layout is still in use => no uninstall). I did not find a proper way to accomplish this with PKGBUILD install scripts.
Both scripts a rather long, but in other review requests forum veterans preferred to have scripts posted here instead of a link to AUR or pastebin. If it's nevertheless wrong I will relocate the scripts.
    Thanks in advance.

If you still want to modify the XML, I would use xmlstarlet instead of awk/sed. I haven't tested the following scripts so they will probably need some debugging but they should give you a general idea of what I would do.
The post remove script would be reduced to:
    set -e
    # xpath selector to select layouts that are named eurkey
    xpath='/xkbConfigRegistry/layoutList/layout/configItem/name[text()="eurkey"]/../..'
    for file in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/{base,evdev}.xml; do
    [[ -f "$file" ]] && xml ed --inplace -d "$xpath" "$file"
    done
And the post install script would become:
    set -e
    xpath='/xkbConfigRegistry/layoutList/layout/configItem/name[text()="eurkey"]'
    for file in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/{base,evdev}.xml; do
    if [[ ! -f "$file" ]]; then
echo "File $file is not a regular file (skipped)"
    elif xml sel -t -c "$xpath" $file >/dev/null; then
echo "File $file already constains eurkey (skipped)"
    else
    echo "processing $file"
    xml ed -P -L \

  • Did a full recovery on hp with Vista. Using external HD, I reinstalled my music library, and installed iTunes from net.  Following instructions given in iTunes, I was unable to import my music library into iTunes.  Any advice, comments, etc,?

After recovery I am not able to load my existing music library into iTunes.  I followed instructions given in iTunes.  Any comments/suggestions?

Do you see the library and media files on your external drive?
If you recovered the iTunes folder from <User's Music> in the backup to your current <User's Music> folder then the library should all be there with no need to import anything.
Depending on how you backed up the data it is possible that the recovered files are missing the security permissions that iTunes needs to access them. See epair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on how to check and reset if necessary.

  • Battery Issues, suggestions requested

My computer has been giving me problems recently. A few weeks ago it continued freezing on me, and when I tried to restart the computer it either would get to the login page and freeze, or wouldn't get past the black screen which shows up (briefly) at startup before the grey screen.
After discussing the problem with a friend he suggested taking out the battery and holding the power button down (while it is unplugged from the adapter). I tried this and my computer has been working better now.
I realized now that my battery doesn't hold a charge for very long once I unplug it. I know the battery loses its resilience after time, but the battery will be fully charged and when I unplug it I will have 25 minutes (approximately) before it shuts down. I also noticed that it doesn't give me the low battery warning before it shuts down.
    Comments/Suggestions requested and appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your friend's suggestion was to reset the PMU, which is a good thing to do:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US
However, if your battery is on its way out, it's on its way out, and there is nothing you can do to revive it. How old is it, and how many cycles are on it? A battery should retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 cycles. If you have more than 300 cycles, your battery may just be getting to the end of its life.
You could try calibrating your battery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
However, if the battery is in bad shape, you may not be able to do this successfully. It may just be time for a new one.
    Good luck!

  • Version control suggestions

Before i spend tons of hours on this i figure it would be a good idea to ask people with much more experence than myself.
I work in a small multimedia development shop of about 10 people. Our pimary development tools are the Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection (Flash Pro, Photoshop, Premiere, Audition and Dreamweaver), Adobe Captivate, zBrush, and 3D Max 2012.
We HAVE TO come up with some sort of version control solution that will work with all the programs we use. Alien Brain was the first choice.... unfortunatlly that was denied due to cost. With Captivate, Master Suite, zBrush and AutoDesk Entertainment Suite all being purchased reciently we have about all the software purchasing we are going to have for a while.
So, with the current situation explained..... what are the prefered version control systems that you all have used or currently use that will support the most Adobe file formats?
Are there ay version control systems you have found to be best to avoid with Adobe file formats?
Thank you in advance for any comments, suggestions or warnings.

To clarify..... Yes, I understand that different Adobe Applications save in different formats and there is no "common" Adobe file format.
The purpose was to see if there were any specific formats that people had problems with in a particular flavor of subversion being as there are different types of subversions as well as different user clients and methods to check items in any out of whatever particular subversion solution you choose.
I have been researching all the different subversions solutions, branches of those solutions as well as user clients for checking in and checking out items. Unfortunately most don't have a list of supported file types but i have found a few complaints about specifically Apache Subversion and TortioseSVN corrupting data but I believe a majority of the complaints are from incorrect installs and incorrect paths.
A good list of version control solutions I started with :

Other people struggling with the same problem :
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/610194
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2730898
Adobe Drive & Asset Management that says it works with CS5.5 Applications but numerous complaints on it falling short.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/adobedrive.html
To ask the question a different way that might be easier to get a response.
What version control solution do you use with Adobe CS5.5 Applications?
Do you have any problems with any particular file type in the solution that you use?
I wish i could use Alien Brain and i am jealous if you do. :O)

  • Another Build... please comment!

    Greetings,
I am about to build and upgrade from CS3 to CS5.5
Hoping for a solid balanced system with no weak links!
    I don't want to spend money I don't have on stuff I don't need!
    Would appreciate any comments/suggestions.
    MB - Asus P6X58D-E
    CPU - Core i7-960 3.20ghz 4-core (or 950?)
GFX - EVGA GTX 570 (or GTX 470?)
    RAM - 12GB Corsair XMS3 3x4GB
    PSU - Corsair or Antec 650w - 850w (Suggestions?)
    HDD1 - 1TB WD Caviar Black Sata 6GB/s
    HDD2 - Not sure yet. Either 1 x 2TB or RAID.
CASE - Antec P183 (Supposed to be very quiet?)
    OS - Win7 Pro 64bit
    OPTICAL - 2 x CD/DVD/R (I guess any brand/OEM will be OK)
    I/O - Matrox MXO2 Mini
    CARD READER - All-in-1 (Suggestions?)
CPU - Video Guys website does not recommend Sandy Bridge for PPro CS5.5
MB - Two other MB's suggested (by a gamer) are the Asus Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 and the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366.
    Thank you.

Thanks to all for the comments to date, and for an excellent forum. There's been lots of good info although I still have not heard a consensus (for the layman) regarding whether to S-Bridge or not to S-Bridge.
    Here is an update:
(I guess this should have been noted at the outset, nevertheless please view my observations within the following context:
    1. I consider my editing requirements to be intermediate. I don't do it every day and when I do it's anything from DV to XDCAM. I do also use the PC for other everyday stuff.
    2. Although I've been producing & editing film & video for many years, I am not, nor do I want to be a computer expert and studying/comparing all manner of charts and specs. With guidance to the right components, I can build it, set it up, and pretty much get everything running as it should.
    3. The main objective is to have a system where all parts come together as a happy team, with no-one dragging down and no-one alone out front. Just all working together in unity.
    4. Budget is an issue... isn't it always!)
    Observations:
So I started the build, installed W7Pro and installed CS5 Premiere & P/shop trial. Everything seems to work. However I'm still unsure about some components.
MB: The P8P67 Pro can currnetly use up to 16gb ram. Is this going to be a limitation, is there maybe another board I should consider, with more headroom for growth?
Or perhaps go back to the P6X58D-E / i7-960 config. I know it's not S-Bridge but it can handle up to 24gb ram.
GFX: The GTX570 HD is very long leaving little clearance behind the top HDD. I may change it for the standard (non HD) card which according to specs is 1" to 1.5" shorter, has marginally lower performance and is $20 less.
CASE: The Antec P183 is nice though I'm not sure about the front "door". Mid size seems to have grown about 4" taller compared to my current P4 / Antec mid. Also gotta add that computer cases and components still generally seem to make very inefficient use of space!
I looked at the Coolermaster 690 II and liked the sideways HDD mounting and all the fans. It is big and not as quiet as the Antec. I don't expect to add more than 4 HDD's. Is a full case really required?
PSU: It is the Corsair TX750 v2. Will this suffice or should I go to 850w? (I doubt I would run more than 4 HDD's at one time)
PREMIERE: I miss the Matrox X.tools effects/transitions and it seems that the Premiere transitions still look rather harsh.
So once again, comments/suggestions will be muchly appreciated.
    Thanx.

  • Generic Comments on Oracle Documentation

    Hi,
I am not a documentation expert. But I have been working on different Oracle technologies for 7+ years. I have some general comments/suggestions on Oracle Documentation:
    1) Sometimes the language is bit complicated and can be simplified to a great extent.
e.g. "The combination of all of these SOA artifacts makes up the adaptable and extensible service-oriented reference architecture that Application Integration Architecture stands for."
It could have been written in simpler language like
"The combination of all of these SOA artifacts makes up the adaptable and extensible Application Integration Architecture."
Another example is - "These are application-agnostic web services that are used by calling applications to interface with different applications. This helps the cross-application processes to be participating-application unaware.
    2) At some places, the documentation is vague and doesn't really provide specifics of the underlying component/concept.
e.g. In "AIA Overview" document, there is following description for Error Resolution and Logging:
"Oracle provides a unified error-handling and logging solution that allows the identification and resolution of issues across applications, across technologies such as BPEL or Enterprise Service Bus, and across integration patterns."
But it doesn't provide specific details about the "solution".
I have seen really nice Oracle Documentation as well. But I earnestly believe there is scope to improve some of the Oracle Documentation. It will greatly help Oracle customers to better understand Oracle Products/Technologies faster.
    Thank You!

Thank you for your observations and recommendations. The examples in (1) are indeed verbose and confusing; and if the document in (2) does not provide enough information about the solution, that is a shortcoming.
I did a very quick search but could not find the manuals in question. Are your examples from Oracle technical manuals or from marketing literature, such as data sheets or white papers? This is not to excuse any problems with marketing literature, but Oracle's technical documentation groups are generally not involved in writing those documents, and thus we don't control or edit their content.
In any case, I recommend that if you find problems in a technical manual, please use the "User Comments" feature (at the bottom of HTML pages for Oracle manuals accessed in documentation libraries on OTN), so that the comment can be tied to a specific manual and be directed to the appropriate writer. (Or, include the manual's title or part number in a posting in this forum.) For comments on any other Oracle materials, see if the item includes any information about sending feedback.

  • How to update column references.

Is there an easy way to make a reference to a data column update for when more data is entered into that column? Ex. =SUM(A1:A10) but then you add data to column A in cell 11, 12, and 13. Is there a way to make the SUM entry update to SUM(A1:A13)?
