Commercial Licensing

I have obtained a quote for commercial license for BerkeleyDB. The quote is for a one time licensing fee for unlimited single processor use. However, it is not clear if the license is a developer or runtime license. What I really need to know is, with the commercial license, do I get a copy of the source code so that I can make modifications as necessary? The sales rep that I am dealing with assured me that this is the case but I just need to make sure?
Thanks,
DC

DC,
The short answer is yes. The source is always available to you. We don't take it away. :) It's always available. If you find a bug, or add some feature send us a patch we're happy to review your changes. You are welcome to use your patched version of DB as you see fit and you are not required to send it to us (but we'd like it if you did) regardless of the license. The entire build infrastructure for DB is part of the download, so it's easy to change and rebuild it as you like. As part of the build process you can choose to add or remove certain features, turn on or off extra debugging information, and many other things.
So, the short answer is "yes, you can."

  • Apex Listener commercial license

    Hello,
I created applications with Apex and I'm about to install Apex on an other database.
I 'll maybe choose Apex Listener but I don't know if there is a commercial license for it: would my customers have to pay to use an apex application that runs with Apex Listener ??
    Thanks.
    Fanny

If you use the ORACLE HTTP server (Apache with modplsql), it's free with the database license.
If you use the APEX Listener, you need an App Server. The App Server requires a License.
For APEX, it's licensed with the Database for all version , Standard One, Standard, Enterprise, Express.

  • How to get CDC-HI commercial license info ?

    Hi,
I need to add SSL support to PhoneME CDC+FP1.1 (MR2) on an embedded target device. From other google results, seems the way to do this is to acquire CDC-Hi commercial license, so I can access SECOP (security option) source code (which is not open for 1.4.2) which then would provide security components (jsse, jce, etc) that support SSL. (Correct me if I am wrong)
I can't seem to find information on how to get CDC-Hi commercial license ? (About term & pricing) I've been searching Sun & Orcale site, couldn't find exact info. Can anyone point me to the right URL ?
    Thanks!!

  • I'm a college teacher in Bogota, Colombia, Am I eligible for the teacher's discount? Is the creative cloud for teachers a fully commercial license?

Well, as the header says, I want to know if the teacher's discount applies to teachers in Latinamerica. I'm a college teacher in a public university here in Bogotá, Colombia, and was hoping to be eligible for the 60% discount. However, I need to know first if it's a fully commercial license, because I do freelance work outside my teaching job. Thanks in advance for the answers

Predominantly in the United States when you get a student or teacher license for software it excludes you from using the software for commercial work, the discount is for providing you with software you will be trained or study on and in the event you become proficient with it and begin to actually use it for commercial work you need to buy the commercial package.
It may vary from country to country.

  • Will changing to the student plan allow you to keep your commercial licensing?

I recently switched my creative cloud account from $50/month to the student plan that is $20/month. Will I have commercial licensing with the student plan?

    Hi Tim
There are no restrictions on using the student/teacher plan for commercial purposes.  You just need to be a qualifying student/teacher to sign up for the plan.
    Thanks

  • Non-commercial licensing

    All,
Will a non-commercial license for Flex Builder, FDS and
charting (2.0) be offered similar to the license that was available
for Flex 1.5. I know the SDK is free but I would like to use the
other components to develop my open source medical records system.
I put off obtaining a 1.5 license as 2.0 was around the corner and
I have been actively testing each pre-release.
I have posted this very question to Adobe/Macromedia sales
several times and have not received a response.

    I
wholeheartedly concur. I have been experimenting with Flex
some on my free time, but I can only put in a little bit of time
here and there. Before I know it, 30 days is up. From the time I
had started with Flex2, and by the time I had enough time to really
devote to doing something with it, I'd run out of my trial. If the
demo actually clocked my usage and gave me 30 days of usage, that'd
be one thing, but even then $500 is a lot of money for what would
be for me an occasional use tool. I had a friend comment that $500
for what seemed to be primarly a GUI builder was a lot of money,
and I can agree. If I was solely a Flex guy, it'd be a non-issue,
but the door fee to get in and start checking out this club is
    kinda stiff.
Alternatively, I'd love to see Flex bundled in a CS Web
Developer package similar to CS Web Standard, but with the addition
of Flex and maybe Cold Fusion, with a significant discount for
buying it that way. At least then I'm paying a bunch of money for a
whole suite of tools that I'm getting on the whole a decent amount
of use out of and I can justify the cost much easier then.

  • How to get a commercial license of LiveCycle DS?

Our company sells a product which has been using Blaze DS for communicating between a Flex-based client and a JBoss-based middleware. Nothing fancy, just AMF used to call web services and retrieve the answer.
Now, the company has been sold and the new owners ask for a commercial replacement for free components. Hence, we are looking into replacing Blaze DS for LiveCycle DS.
So far, I didn't have much luck with the Adobe sales folk in Germany and the US, and resellers don't appear to know much about LC.
Is there anyone around here who can offer some advise?
Who do I need to contact to get reliable licensing information (and a quote) for LC DS?

  • Developer / Commercial License for Embedding an Adobe Font

I'm developing an application in which I'd like to embed one of the Adobe fonts. Customers using this application will be able to create documents that would be passed to a professional printer. The font would be encrypted and embedded in the application. The PDF files are transitory and for print only and would not be for any other use.
I'd like to know what kind of license that I would need from Adobe for this and who exactly I could talk to about getting the license. I've talked with direct sales, customer support, and volume licensing. No one was able to help me. Any additional information would be helpful.
    Thank you.

  • Is license upgraded from Student to Commercial transferable?

    Hello.
I want to buy Student and Teacher CS6 license. I am aware, they are available for commercial work, but not transferable.
When CS7 comes out, after upgrading my license, will I receive full commercial, transferable license, that wont be market as "student" in any way?
I value the option to sell my license if somehow I would no longer have need for certain software (it alleviates the risk of the purchase). That would be great if it is the case, because cost of my Student license will somehow go toward cost of my commercial license.
    Best regards,
    Filip
BTW. I live in Europe, if it matters

No, because any Adobe upgrade is contingent on owning/keeping the previous version you upgraded from (having them both, they go together) — and that previous version in your case is an education edition that was purchased at a large discount and so is not transferrable...
This is the case no matter where you are in the world.

  • Upgrading a student license to commercial

    Hey,
I'm posting to ask how much it costs to upgrade a student license of CS3 Design Premium to the commercial license - it's unclear in the Adobe online store.
    Can anyone help?
    Chris

    Hi everyone,
Was there any resolution to this last question? Is the Adobe Student Edition a newer incarnation different from previous educational/academic licenses?
As Walter mentioned, the Adobe Student Edition FAQ page seems to be at odds with the other information, as it states:
"Adobe Student Editions are for installation solely on private computers and for non-commercial purposes only."
I would be truly, truly appreciative if somebody could once and for all help shed some light on this subject for me. I've gotten so many differing and conflicting responses from web queries, EULA readings, and Adobe customer service.
My long-winded post today is spurred on by the confusing response from Adobe customer service that I received today. It read:
"With regard to your concern to use Adobe Educational Software for
commercial purposes, I need to inform you that the educational versions of our software are specially priced for qualifying students and faculty. Even though they are restricted for educational and
institutional use only, educational versions are fully functional."
Are the products restricted in terms of who can use them, what qualified users can use them for, or both?
I'm a student (in North America) and received my CS3 Design Premium through my school over a year ago, but I'll be darned if I know how to tell what license I exactly have. Looking at the DVD case in front of me, it says "Student Licensing." I've read the EULA, which basically says you can use the software if you qualify as an educational end-user. Does that mean you have to qualify when you buy it, or forever on? How do I know if my version different from the above mentioned Adobe Student Edition which does, indeed, restrict commercial use?
I'm not sure if this will help anybody help me understand, but I do know that a couple hundred of students (both undergrad and graduate) are enrolled in the same Adobe license deal as I am, so I'm guessing that is probably some sort of volume licensing.
It would be absolutely wondrous to know once and for all that it was OK to use my software for commercial purposes both during school and after graduation, as it seems like a shame for the software to become legally derelict if not upgraded.
If anybody has any thoughts, it would be fantastic to hear them.
Dov, you seem to be a beacon of Adobe clarity, so I would love any advice you might have.
    Thanks so much!
    Ryan

  • Photoshop CS4 licensing problems

We are a secondary school which purchased Adobe Photoshop CS4 back in 2010 with 10 licences, from a company called Ramesys.  They provided us with the licence keys which worked perfectly fine.  However, we have recently had to update the PCs and although we 'deactivated' the licence before wiping the PC, we are unable to get CS4 licenced again.  We have put a 64-bit Windows 7 image on the PCs.
When we try to enter the licence key, we get a red cross automatically come up and clicking next warns you that 'The serial number you entered is not valid.  Click OK to retry entering the serial number.'  However, we know that we are definitely putting in the correct number.  We have tried both entering manually and cutting and pasting from the email we had.  Neither work and give us the same message.
We called Adobe - they are less than helpful.  They told us that the serial number we have is certainly correct but cannot help any further and suggested we try these forums?!
We tried to contact Ramesys, but it seems that have been taken over by Captita.  Not sure if it's worth pursuing this with them or not?
Is there anything that we are doing wrong, that would prevent this from activating?  We only have the time it takes the trial version to run out!  These computers are being used in our Art department and the pupils use CS4 almost every day.  We really need to get the software activated as soon as possible.  Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards
    The Polesworth School
    Tamworth

I find it inappropriate that the company would send you to a user to user help forum to try to resolve licensing issues.  Neither does any user here have access to the licensing database, nor do we deal with commercial license questions much here.
But I guess I can see their logic:  They verified that your serial numbers are correct, so they're thinking something's wrong with the computer systems or installations of Photoshop.
I'm sure you've double-checked all of this, but since they've sent you here the basic questions need to be asked...
Where did you get the Photoshop image you installed (then and now)?
And it IS Photoshop CS4, right?
Have you tried installing it from a download directly from Adobe?
Do your computers reach the internet directly?
Are you entering the full 20 digit serial number, with 5 fields of 4 digits?
You do have different serial numbers for each machine, right?
Have you tried a clean uninstall and reinstall (I know this is a stretch)?
Thing is, I believe an immediate red X (is it immediate?) implies that the software feels the basic format of the serial number is wrong.  So the software doesn't match the serial number somehow.
I'm not sure, beyond asking you to verify your most basic things, that we can help you much more than this here on the forum.

  • Which fonts (if any) are included in Acrobat XI Pro (student license)?

It was mentioned to me that rather than buying only the licenses for a few fonts I am interested in, I should consider purchasing Acrobat XI Pro as the fonts may come with the package. However, nowhere can I seem to find out if any fonts indeed come with Acrobat XI Pro. Can someone please advise? Thank you.

Acrobat is not one of the Adobe products that comes bundled with a bunch of fonts.
Buried within Acrobat's resources are a bunch of fonts to support PDF usage in various non-Latin character set languages, but these are not available for use by other programs as-installed.
By the way, student and educational licenses of Adobe products come with the same resources as those for full commercial license use.

  • Re-licensing Berkeley DB back to

    Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this has already been discussed here or even if this is right place to request such thing. If there is a better place, just point me there, please.
My question is simple -- can upstream even think about re-licensing Berkeley DB 6.0 back to LGPLv2? It's not hard to imagine how many problems with licensing incompatibility were introduced by re-licensing Berkeley DB to AGPLv3. There are so many projects that use Berkeley DB and cannot be re-licensed as well, which basically means Berkeley DB started to die since 6.0, because such projects will need to switch to some alternative.. If this was desired by upstream to remove BDB from real life, then I can understand it. But anyway, I'd like to hear there is no way to convince upstream to re-licence back.
    Regards,
    Honza

I am Jesús Cea, maintainer of the Python Berkeley DB bindings.
The bindings are licensed as BSD 3-clauses, so my code is incompatible with BDB 6.0. No Python program, under any license, can use BDB 6.0, then. I can't change the license because it is inherited code and it is impossible to contact with every past author.
I plan to do a release that ONLY allow linking with BDB 6.0 IF you define a environment variable saying "yes, I have a Oracle commercial license for this". Ugly and hacky, but hopefully safe for everybody.
Personaly I use Berkeley DB HA and two phases commit A LOT in my internal projects. It is my main mode, in fact. I use it for everything, from mail storage to application deployment.

is mysql a free open source database or do you need a license for it in production.

    Hi,
It should be free under GPL (General Public license).Usually it will comes with your operating system distribution (eg:RHEL)
If you download it from Oracle site, it should have the commercial license tied to it, and you need to pay for that if it is in use for production.
