Common North American Power Plugs

Below is a link to the Common North American Power Plug Cheat Sheet PDF file.  The cheat sheet is a quick reference to the commonly used power plugs in North American datacenters.

Allen,
I bought my imac in USA and brought it here, and I use an adapter. you will just be wasting a lot of money by buying the cord. Just go for the adapter. you can get them at Yongsan or any electrical lighting store for about 500 won. they work great. buy two just in case.
why blow $20 instead of $1.

  • Can I swap North American power plug on ipod charger for European one??

    Hi there.
My sister is taking her 5th Gen iPod to Russia from Canada (we use North American Standards for plug shape and 110 voltage, for US users interest).
I am curious if she can purchase (online or in Russia) an adapter for the prong portion (that can be removed) of the iPod power adapter to fit that region of the world.
The voltage portion (going from 110V to 220V) is taken care of by the power adapter itself.
I am assuming there is not an Apple store in Moscow (yet) but Heathrow Airport (on the way there) may have Apple products?
    Any thought would be great.
    Thanks.

Apple sell an international travel kit for the adapter but it's a bit pricey especially if you don't need a full set of plugs: Apple World Travel Kit

  • HT1476 Is the 5w North American charger (house line to USB) compatible (with a plug adapter) to European (240v) current?

Is the North American 5w charger (house line to USB) compatible with use on European (240v) power if a proper plug adapter is used? In other words, can the charger deliver proper output if it is supplied with 240v, instead of 120v, input?

    Yes.

  • Using a North American PowerBook in Europe (Istanbul, Turkey)?

    Hello,
My wife is traveling to Istanbul (Turkey) with work and she'll be bringing my PowerBook 12" with her. It looks like Istanbul uses the same electricity type as France (220V at 50 Hz with a double-pinned round plug) so I don't imagine there should be any problem plugging in the PowerBook while there as long as she's using the correct adapter to convert the North American plug-type to the type needed. We were in Paris last year and had no problems, so I'm thinking it should be the same with Istanbul, but would appreciate any advice anyone may have?
And, while I've never read anything definitive to confirm this, is it true that the power bricks that come with the PowerBook actually convert the power so as to be able to use it in different parts of the world (as long as you have a plug adapter)? Like I said, I've had no problems doing this in the past, so I assume this is true, but again, just wondering if anyone knows for sure?
    Thanks!
    Kristin.

To answer this question you can always look at the label on the power supply (of any appliance, not just Macs). If it only says 120, it's only going to work on US-type power grids and you'll need a transformer too. If it says something like 100-240 volts, it's good anywhere in the world and you only need an adapter, no transformer.
My brick has labels on two sides and the voltage range is listed on only one of those, so if you don't see it, turn it around.
You might consider an adapter with a surge protector if the power quality at the destination might be unstable.

  • Where to get new cord for North American wall outlet (110V) for macbook pro 2011?

    Hello, all.
I work in Korea, bought a macbook pro here.  It's really great but I have a problem -- I need a standard north american, three pronged, power cord which will run from the wall outlet to the 60v mag adapter, as the wall outlets here are different than in North America and I will be returning there shortly.
I have only been able to find total adaptor replacements or what looks to be cables for older adapters.  I would like to avoid having to replace the entire adaptor as it works fine -- i just need a cable that will plug into it and a standard, three prong, north american outlet.
Does Apple sell just the cable that precedes the adaptor?  I have been unable to find one if so...
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Mertcrimmer

  • Audubon's North American Birds

    I've been using this software:
National Audubon Society Interactive CD-Rom Guide to North American Birds
    in OS 9 Classic...until I upgraded to OS 10.4.5.
Now I get the error msg "Cannot find media "Audubon:Audubon:MediaBTY:0590Base.THB" and the program quits.
I understand this to be a directory problem.
Any suggestions? There doesn't seem to be an OS X version of this nifty program.
    Thanks

All Mac's are international machines so your friend could easily use your machine. Depending on what country they're in they may have to localize it however that is a simple task. The power requirements on MBP's are 100V-240V so that would be fine too, at the most they would need a plug adapter. If your MBP is covered by AppleCare or any remaining warranty that would also follow the machine as they are tied to the serial number not the owner.
That's very kind of you to consider doing this and if you decide to do so I'm sure your friend will have many years of enjoyment.

  • Going To Europe From North American MBP- How To Charge

Hello, I need a bit of help understanding if MBP has a built in power converter. And do I just need to change the "plug in tip " with an adapter
    Thanks,
    Marc

The MBP's power adapter (the 'power brick') can use 100-240 V and 50/60 Hz, so it works pretty much anywhere in the world as long as you get a plug adapter to change your flat, two-prong North American plug to whatever is needed in your destination (in your case, the round two-prong European plug).

  • Need DV6000 DC power plug specs

I need to replace a DC power plug that plugs into the 431446-001 or 431445-001 USB/Power Connector Board.
The 431446-001 provides the DC power jack on the dv6000 laptop.  I need the specs, a part number, or a source for the barrel plug that plugs into the DC power jack.
This connector is part of the external 432309-001 or –402018-001 power adaptors.  It is the plug on the DC out end of the adaptor.  I've tried looking up part numbers for the 432309-001, but cannot find a parts breakdown.
It is the smallest barrel connector I've ever seen.  If I had a micrometer that measured inside diameter and outside diameter, I could come up with the ID, OD and length, and possibly buy it from Digi-Key or another parts supplier.  Possibly I could estimate the dimensions, but I want a precise fit.
I've already replaced the 431446-001, and apparently that was only part of the connector problem.  Before replacement, I was getting no DC to the computer.  Now I get DC to the computer when the  barrel plug is held in just the right position.  A common solution is just to replace the external power supply, but I know that the connector is the only problem.
    Can anyone help?
    Tad Cook, K7RA

Well,  the dimensions  of that tip are 4.8 x 1.7 mm.  Can't find a dimension for the length.
The tip numbers for a targus adapter are L107 and 201.  The reason for the 2 different part numbers is because targus makes 2 different adapters that the plugs plug into different ways.
The price of a targus tip is around 14 bucks on ebay and the price of a new ac adapter for your machine is about 9 bucks on ebay.  If you do a search on ebay make sure you use dv6000, not dv6.  You'll get a monster tip for a dv6, won't fit.
You won't be able to adapt a targus tip coz the connector pins are recessed into the connector.  The tip numbers are just for your reference in case you still want to source a tip somewhere.  A company might be able to match a tip to those numbers.

  • Using a North American iBook in Europe

I have a 600Mhz 14 inch G3 snow iBook. It needs a new AC adapter. It also needs to be able to work in France. What is the best way to equip this Canadian/North American iBook to work in both North America and France?
Will this product be of any help?

    Thanks!

Hi, Samuel. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
That one will work. So will Apple's, if you want one with the glowing ring.
You will need an adapter plug for the adapter so your North American adapter will plug into French outlets. Those who have traveled abroad say you can get these adapters in airport shops around the world. It will look something like this. I've even seen them at WalMart (in the luggage section, but I'm not sure you have WalMarts in Canada).
Apple sells the World Travel Adapter Kit, but that may be more than you need.
    Bon voyage!

Do you even know how to nuke and re-set Photoshop's preferences, colorplak?  Your last post seems to reveal that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Here's a link you can click on:
Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CC
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CC Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
Note for Photoshop 14.1 and later: If you use Generator and reset your Preferences, Generator is disabled. Choose Preferences > Plug-ins to turn it back on.
Video: Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Using power-plug to feed a MuVo device

My MuVo V200 has a problem. The connection between the USB-flash player and the part that feeds the player (the battery part) is damaged. I am considering using a transformer that turns a common 220V power plug into a USB plug. (Like the ones that charge other Creative players.) The transformer I currently have provides a USB output of 5V and 300mA. Can it feed the MuVo with safety? Are there any health issues that I should be concerned of (e.g. if you touch the USB cord connecting MuVo and the transformer on it's metallic part)? Generally, is it possible for someone to be electrocuted with a transformer's output of 300mA?

That is correct, the printer should remain plugged into a live outlet at all times.  Using an external switch to turn off the printer may cause the printheads to not park properly and will cause extra ink to be used when the printer has to initialize for the next print job after power is restored.  The printer has an automatic power save mode, it will use minimal power when not printing.

  • Dropped Lacie 250 Gig -- Power plug broke off. Help!

It happens to the best of us. I accidently knocked my 250 gig Lacie Hardrive off my desk and it fell on the ground. The male power plug with 4 prongs broke off inside the female portion of the plug. In other words, the female part of the power plug in the Lacie drive where you insert the power plug is broken because the power plug prongs broke off the male power cord and are stuck inside.
I have no idea what to do. Can I fix this power plug? Can I pull out the metal prongs that are stuck inside the female part and buy a new power cord? Do I need to pull ou the hard drive and buy a new Lacie case? I appreciate your help in advance. I can't believe I did this and I am hoping for a good solution.

If I understand your situation correctly, you might be able to pull the broken pins out of the socket and buy a new power supply. I'm not sure which one you have, perhaps like this:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10735
Of course, something else may be broken inside from the fall, including the drive.
You can identify parallel ATA/IDE drives by a large ribbon connector on the end, plus the 4 pin power connector. Serial drives have the power connector and a small single wire serial connector. My guess, if you have the common LaCie silver drive, is that it's a parallel.

  • Power plug failure?

My power plug (where the plug connects to the computer) has been very very finicky lately. It's all the way in, but slightly knicking it will cause it to lose it's connection (the light goes out, and the computer says it's running on battery power)
Is this a common issue? Or do I need to send this beauty in for repairs???
(It isn't horrible now, but it's getting slightly worse, so I'd have to get it take care of before I restart school)

    Hi Andrew,
Mine has gotten that way once or twice over the years, from getting the cord caught on something.
If you're out of warranty, just take a pair of pliers and gently form the round, thin, circular portion into a shape more conducive to fitting snugger.
Fixes mine up good as new.

    Checkwriter/Deposit Advice:
Oracle will de-support the Live Checkwriter and Deposit Advice for US and Canada beginning with EOY Phase 1 in September. Archive Checkwriter and Deposit Advice will continue to be supported. What this means is that new code changes and bug fixes will not be tested on the Live Checkwriter and Deposit Advice. Additionally, enhancements made to the Archive version will NOT be made for the Live version.
*Note: If you would like to view the output of the archive version of this report without needing pre-printed stationery, try the following in a test instance:
    disable the trigger pay_action_parameters_ari
insert a row in pay_action_parameters with the following value -
    name=PRINT_REPORT_LABELS
    value=PAYUSCDA
    enable the trigger pay_action_parameters_ari
Run the report. This will print the labels and make it easier to check the report without needing pre-printed stationery.

We need to know the new codes which will be added and which if any will be replaced. We know those identified on the US Gov site but can Oracle Dev. provide the specifics in advance so we can update our Employment Applications etc to match Oracle HR definitions?

    Ed
