Common SLD in XI . Is it possible?

Dear Expert,
Though SAP gives option of using commond SLD, we have problem working with common SLD.
We have the following landscape
DEV R/3 system (TS is D01) connecting to DEV XI System
QAS R/3 system (TS is Q01) connecting to QAS XI System
PRD R/3 system (TS is P01) connecting to PRD XI System
We have one Business System BS_SAP_R3 which is pointing to R/3 system
The aforesaid Business System is used across all the 3 XI landscapes. Now when we transport the interface from DEV to QAS & PRD let us know how this will work in common SLD scenario. How the pointer will dynamically change to different Technical Systems (TS).

Same WebAS ABAP business system can't be used in different landscape. You have to define separate business system for each landscape in SLD. While importing the business system in ID from SLD, if you import the one for Dev, then the scenario will always point to Dev R3.

If your SAP PI system is upgraded 7.1 system, which do have functionality of SLD Synchronization.

EHP1 upgrade of solution manager-any effects in landscape due to common SLD

Hello All,
We have ECC,BI,SRM,XI,EP,MAM and BD in our setup and yes of course Solution Manager dev and prod
We have our SLD installed on solution manager production which is common for all the systems of the landscape
Now we have performed EHP1 upgrade if Solution manager dev and now we are planning on solution manager production
So just want to know,do you forsee any issues after we upgrade the solution manager production to EHP1 in respect to SLD or can there be any issues in the landscape because of this upgrade?
Please let me know your suggestions

The SLD is not affected.
However, SolMan EHP1 requires a LOT of separate notes to be applied.
Note 1172948 - SAP Solution Manager - Basic functions
Depending on what scenarios you use, you will also need to upgrade ST-PI in the external systems before EWAs will be again correctly created.

Transporting the BS and TS from 1 SLD to another...POSSIBLE??

Is it possible to transport the contsts of 1 sld ie. the TS BS into antoher SLD with CTS or any other mechanism?

Yes it is possible.
just select your TS, and export. you can save that as a .zip file in ur local client (file system).
do the same for BS.
go to the other SLD, go to administration, import/ export CIM classes/ instances.
import the file.
you may get some error due to
1) BS pointing to old XI server
2) some "installed softwares" of the old sys.
you can delete unwanted "installed softwares" & make ur BS point the right server.

Configuring a common SLD

We have been using SLD configured on XI Dev box. Now we have installed XI QA box and need to use the same DEV SLD.
How do i do this?. Do i add XI QA as the data supplier to DEV SLD ?

Hi,
In QA system go to the transcation SLDAPICUST and maintain the URL/user and pass of the DEV sld system.
Also for the RFC destination SAPSLDAPI and LRCSAPRFC should be pointing to DEV SLD.
Then from QA system run SLDCHECK it should list the business systems in the SLD and should be succesful.

Hi Alberto - I think you just need to adjust the below pointers.
NWA: config->connectivity->destinations
SLD_Client and SLD_DataSupplier -> to your quality system details
Config ->infra->java system properties->services-> XPI Service: All.adjust the values of the below properties*connect*cr* && *landscape* -> change these details to Quality

Common distribution channel and division

Hi
Following is the scenario in our Process.
We have Sales Org 1000 % Distribution Channel 10 , 20 & 30
In Define Common distribution Channel screen have maintained following Config
Sorg Dchannel       DchConds       DchCust/Mat
1000 10                  10                    10
1000 20                  10                    10
1000 30                   10                   10
so we have maintained Ref Distribution Channel as 10 for 20 & 30
Now we wish to extend the customer to 1000/20 to main some specific data in certain fields related to that distribution channel. but is giving an error no Sales Area 1000/20/Division could be determined.
We would like to use common ref distribution channel and also if required if specific data is required to be maintined in it should be extended to other disctibution channel.
this will ensure that at the time of preparation of sales documents like sales orders it should check if the customer is extended to that distribution channel if yes it will refer data from that disctribution channel else will refer data from common distribution channel.
Is it possible.

Common distributions channels

Hi everybody:
I want to use the functionality of common distributions channels only for the creation of customer's master data.
I want to preserve the update of sales area to the materials master data because the same material in the same company code could have different Acct assignment group and Output Tax depends on the sales zone.
But if I have many sales area when I have the same customer in many sales zone and in this case the data never changes only I need one sales area to maintain.
Can I customize only the common distribution channel applies only for the creation customers master data?
I really appreciate the help.

Hi Susana,
I don't think this is possisble with customizing :(.
And I don't think there is an 'easy' solution for it neither
1) Either go for an automated creation / change of the customer master data to the 'non-maintained' sales areas
( maybe you can setup something with ALE and link back to your own system and only override the distribution channel when creating the customer in the 'remote' system )
2) If it's only necessary for certain pricing / tax operations to use the material master data for the original sales area ( rather then the common sales area ) , it's probably possible to use userexits to overule the default values found by SAP for the commoen sales area and replace them with your own : e.g. userexit 'userexit_move_field_to_vbap' in mv45afzz
can be used to retrieve your own vbap data

Error with SLD

Dear Experts,
when I am calling ctc installer (template installer) with /nwa , i become the following error message and the install dont start.
"Validation Error: Test SLD connection:It was not possible to test the
SLD system (SLD_HOST) with the user (SLD_ADMIN) and its password given
in the property sheet. Please verify and retype the values in the
corresponding fields. You can also go to visual administrator -> "SID" -> Server xx -> Services -> Configuration adaptor -> CTC ->
Propertysheet SystemProperties, make sure that the parameters related
to SLD are correctly typed and rerun the template."
but in the visual administrator the parameters are correct.
what can be the reason herefore? maybe the password for this slddsuser??

System landscapes in SLD

Hello,
Does any one have experience using other landscape definitions in the SLD?
What can be the use in XI. Will it be possible to use systems from different landscapes via this way in the central sld?

Hi,
the SLD is for specific landscape. If you want to have Central SLD and then multiple SLDs you can go on that. But maintaining this will be difficult..
If you want to use systems from the different landscapes, you need to make the sync between that SLD with your SLD.. then it is possible.. otherwise as SLD itself describes the System repository for all sytems uner one landscape..

Template Installer from Java to BI error in SLD

Hello Gurus,
I've install my BI system system (ABAP Only) and my Portal system (Java Only). Now I'm running the template installer from http://host:53800/nwa.
I'm getting an error at the very first step "Test SLD connection:It was not possible to test the SLD system (SLD_HOST) with the user (SLD_ADMIN) and its password ".
The anoying thing is, I can see that both system (BI & Portal) are registered in the SLD, when checking the "visual administrator -> "SID" -> Server xx -> Services -> Configuration adaptor -> CTC -> Propertysheet " I can see that the user is SLDDSUSER and and is pointing to the correct host & port.
In SM59 I've create the RFC pointing to the already created JCO.
In http://host:53800/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tcwdtools/Explorer, when running the test, I can see that is pointing to the SLD in the portal system and not my SLD.
I went trough OSS note 983156 and follow it.
Does anybody have any idea about this?

Transporting ESR / ID components over the same SLD config

Hi experts,
I'm facing a situation where a client has 3 distinct SLD and, in each one there's the same Business System.
i.e:
SLD DEV -> BS_A1
SLD QAS -> BS_A1
SLD PRD -> BS_A1
My question is, if we transport the design and configuration objects from one scenario to another (DEV to QAS, for instance), will they identify the different BS and run fine, or will they fail?

Hi Rafael
The only way to know for sure is to do a test - between non-PRD critical systems DEV and QAS - or in a completely different non-PRD critical landscape with the same landscape - always back-up SLD contents before attempting this- ideally a full back-up and a export ALL as well as and individual exports files of each type LD, CR etc will ensure the SLD can be re-built irrespective of the any issues faced.
There are 2 potential issues as I see it
1) If the data source of each BS is different in each SLD or some of the business systems data is different in each SLD
there is always the possibility it may not matched or found by CTS
2) The business system and scenario may have some source specific definitions - these should be adapted in the target
environment to ensure it works

Irrespective of whether you have a Common SLD or Different SLD's , you need not create the SWCV manually in your SLD. When you transport the SWCV and import it into your new IR, the corresponding entries will happen in SLD.
In CMS transport, you could select the individual object or namesapce or all software component to be transported.

In your source system,. say tool--> Export --> using file system and then select your SWCV. The exported TPZ file wll be placed in the EXPORT directory of your server.
Now, copy this TPZ file into the import directory of your new server and then tolls --> import.
For the export and import directories, XI Homepage --> Administration --> General Information.,

---> Hi yes it will update the existing Software component refered by TS. No need to create another one.
While transporting the modified object
Refer CMS links mentioned above. Here you could select the individual object or namesapce or all software component to be transported.
3. If i transport a software component, that is already present in the other SLD, will it update it
(overwrite it),
--> It depends upon the object you are transporting. For e.g if you have transported the whole software component then the existing will be overwrite. Or if you add individual object or namspace then only that part will be overwritten.
Here you have option in CMS transport to mentioned, if you wish to delete any object, then jsut delete it from development SDL i.r. IR or ID and transport deleted object to Qu. you will get that option in CMS.

Check SLD health

Hi,
We have a common SLD between DEV and TEST environments. The customer is insisting on rebuilding the entire SLD. I am reluctant in rebuilding SLD because I dont want to touch SLD which is fit and running fine.
Can you please suggest me any way by which I can pull out some information/report on the current health status of SLD so that we can be sure that the current SLD is in the perfect state and we dont need to rebuild the entire SLD from scratch.

We do have multiple SLDs at aproductive client.
Usually , we use one SLD for Dev and QA environment. And separate one for Production. Currently we are using in this way . wrt. Administration is concerend I don;t think so it is difficult, becuase usually production environment will be kind of robust environment when compared to other environments.
