Communicate between 2 ipads over internal wifi only
Can I communicate between 2 ipads over internal wifi WITHOUT internet? They are on the same subnet and would have network access to each other, but it seems to IM or message between them it must go over the internet.
If you want to message between the two iPads, yes you must be connected to the Internet as the messages are transmitted via Apple Servers.

With the cellular one you can also access the internet via cellular (with appropriate data plan)

I received an iPad 2 for Christmas (the 1st Apple item I've ever owned!) and own a Nokia N95 8GB mobile (that's pretty much on its last legs/ready to die any day).
On the Nokia I've got 2 apps (downloaded from/via Nokia's 'Ovi' app store): JoikuSpot & HandyWi. Both are the free versions.
I've not used HandyWi much - if at all - but JoikuSpot has been great. Basically, it creates a wifi hotspot (as pjl123 mentioned) in a couple of straightforward steps, and allows a few devices to be connected. It displays who/what is connected at a given time - so you can check if the guy having coffee behind you is piggybacking your hotspot or not! - data packets sent received etc.
The paid version has the benefit of allowing you to secure the hotspot and other security features. Their website is www.joiku.com, FYI.
Given how slow behind the 8 ball Nokia has been, their phones are getting cheaper and cheaper - given Joiku's meant to work with Nokia S60, Symbian ^3, Maemo, Meego & Sony Ericsson S60, this might be a cost effective option.
Ps. Ah! One more thing - Joiku's website specifies that 3G must be used; that WAP will not work. Good luck, enjoy! -
Hello, can you tell me if the iPad 4th Gen WiFi Only will provide GPS services sufficient to run navigation apps such as Apple Maps and Google Maps. I am confused by some reports which state that any GPS positioning is carried out by the cellular chip - which I understand to be absent on the WiFi only model.
I plan to use my iPhone 5 to tether to the iPad, so that I at least have internet connection through the iPhone's 3G connection, but I really want to be able to use the iPad/iPhone combination as a SatNav facility too.
I have tried sales and they cant help - referring me to Tech Support. Tech support seem confused and have suggested it "Probably" can, but wont confirm this in writing.
I do not intend to buy the iPad with the possibility that this is true. I would really like a definitive answer.

AlistairThe WiFi only iPad does not have a GPS chip and does location through WiFi routers. Tethering to your iPhone will allow you to use the GPS chip on it and utilize Apple and Google Maps.

You should be able to connect to that hotspot without issue as an iPad will see it within the Wi-Fi networks and you would not need the cellular model unless you want the iPad to constantly have a data connection.

device is offlineIt will only show if the device is turned on. And if someone else has it, they can turn that feature off. Your best options are to return to the location where you think you lost it, and see if anyone returned it. Also contact your local law enforcement.

buying such a thing from ebay isn't the best idea, but you got it, so I have a question for you:
Do you know if the seller reset the iPad? Which is what they would need to do before selling so it won't be associated with their Apple ID and you can associate it with yours.

Do you have to get 4g connection when you first buy the Ipad or can you change your mind and upgrade from Wifi only to 4G coverage?
There is no upgrade.
You can get a mifi device and plan from your cell provider or use your cell phone as a hotspoy if it has hotspot capability and you have a hotspot plan.
