Communication Airport Program with Time Capsule

My Time Capsule is flashing yellow and the airport program cannot find it. It says: no wireless unit to be found. What's wrong?

Thank You for Your response.
In the meantime I had a consulting by a service-man from an APPLE-dealer by TeamViewer and the problem concerning the TC not working and fleshing yellow was solved through re-installation. Nevertheless I could not vary the time for updating, which is set originally to 1 h. Do you have an advice how to proceed? I tried Time Machine Scheduler without success.
My TC  is Model 2TB, Model No. A1409.  The Airport Dienstprogramm (Service-Progr. = Airport Utility?) is Version 5.6.1. By the way: TC is wired by ethernet to my Speedport W701V modem and router and this device connected by cable to my eMac and iMac. So I do not need Airport Dienstprogramm on my Mac's or?
During the consulting I was told to plug in the cable into the ethernet port. I did it.
What "old stuff" do I have on my computer that ou detected??
Thanks for an advice

  • How do I add an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule to an existing non-Apple network?

How do I add an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule to an existing non-Apple network?  I have an ISP provided wireless Router that has to remain as the base station.  I am able to join my 1/2TB Airport Extreme and Airport Express to the network, but I can't access/use Time Machine.

One option would be to connect the Time Capsule (TC) to the ISP-provided wireless router by Ethernet. You can then configure the for a roaming network. Then, depending on what your goal is for the AirPort Express, you can either: 1) Add it to roaming network, 2) Configure the TC & the Express for an "extended" network, or 3) Configure the Express to "join" the roaming network for AirPlay.

  • Replacing older airport extreme with time capsule

I am thinking of replacing my airport extreme with time capsule. I had a lot of problems setting up airport extreme a few years ago - now it is very reliable. I don't want to have the same issues with time capsule. Can I simply physically replace the airport extreme with time capsule using the same settings as previously
    Advice gratefully anticipated

Welcome to the discussion area, pancuronium!
You will use AirPort Utility on your Mac for this operation:
(Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the File menu at the upper left corner of the screen near the Apple icon
    Click Export Configuration File
Assign a name to the file and save it to a convenient location like the desktop
When you are ready to install the Time Capsule....
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
    Click the File Menu
    Select Import Configuration File
Navigate to locate the file that you exported to import all the settings into a new configuration for the Time Capsule

  • I am having problems configuring airport express with time capsule

    Hi,
I am having problems setting up airport express (old version) with time capsule. It was working perfectly fine with my old router, Airport Extreme (b/g).
I have tried to reset the Airport Express, and now I am having problems finding it in my personal networks. Not too sure what exactly is going on, other than it was working less than a day ago, and now I can't even locate it on the network to configure.
Anyone have any suggestions? I have already tried a hard reset, and no luck so far.

There are 3 types of resets.
    1. Soft
    2. Hard
    3. Factory
    Try a factory reset.

  • Want to migrate AirPort router with Time Capsule to AP/Time Capsule ONLY

My office's AirPort with Time Capsule is currently configured as the Internet Gateway. I want to switch it over to act as a WiFi Access Point (and yes keep the Time Capsule) ONLY, as I will be using a Cisco router as the Internet Gateway. I assume what I want to use to do that is "Bridge Mode". Am I correct?
Second part of this, will the users that are using the Time Capsule still be able to connect to the Time Capsule without losing any backup data, as I will be changing the IP address of the AirPort (currently set to 10.0.0.1, will move it to say 10.0.0.10)? Will there need to be anything done on the individual Macs, or will it automatically update the IP address of where the Time Capsule is?
    I hope this makes sense.

Yes, just select under the network tab.. off bridge mode.
The TC plugged into the CIsco router via its WAN port.
Although that is convention rather than necessary.. in bridge all ports are LAN.. the router function is removed.

Makes good sense.. the name of the TC is the basis by which the computer finds it.. not its IP address unless you have actually used IP manually in finder.
You may find it difficult at first.. all the computers will need a reboot so they get IP address from the Cisco router and not from TC.. once that goes forward.. everything should be fine..
If you run into trouble, it is not hard.. See A4 here.

Reset TM and simply go through the process to locate the backup target. TM will then locate the old backup.

  • Swap airport extreme with time capsule

My family has an Airport Extreme (2 years old) with two additional Airport Expresses for Airplaying music from iPad, iPhones and iPod Touches.  Just purchased a 2 TB Time Capsule for backup purposes of the MacBook Pro.  Would like to exchange the Airport Extreme with the Time Capsule but really could use detailed step-by-step, since I would like to keep all passwords/configurations the same.  Could somebody help?

    Easy solution:
Shut down everything (remove power.) Disconnect the AEBS. Replace it with the Time Capsule by connecting all cables in the same way. Then turn on the modem and wait for it to communicate with your ISP. Next turn on the Time Capsule and wait until the status light turns green or blinking amber. Last, turn on the computer(s). You should be all set. Open Airport Utility to do any tweaking that may be needed for security and wireless, etc.

  • Blocking p2p programs with time capsule

Hello, I've got a question. I currently have a previous-model time capsule, with which I created a wireless network over my house, and every computer in the house connects to it. The problem is that some computer uses it to download through p2p programs, which slows down the internet speed like ****. Said I don't use p2p, so it wouldn't matter to lose the ability on my macs, can I prevent people from using p2p over my network? The programs used are mostly eMule and bearshare, if relevant.
    Thanks very much.

Oh, that's too bad. Thank you for the answer anyway,

  • Airport Express with Time Capsule - Stronger Signal, No Increase in Speed

I just added an Airport Express to extend my network from a Time Capsule. Pretty sure I set it up right (extend the network selected in Airport Express, allow the network to be extended in Time Capsule). I get the green light and do get a stronger signal in the far reaches of my house where before I added the Airport Express there was almost no signal. The Time Capsule is in bridge mode connected to a Verizon FIOS router doing the DHCP, NAT, etc. The problem is, there is still less than 1Mbps with the Airport Express, even though the signal strength is 80+%. I have moved it around to different locations without much effect. I would think that with the green light, a stronger signal, and the fact that I can connect (although at low speed), I have it working, but the throughput is terrible. Does extending the network (non-WDS) with the Airport Express cause a significant slowdown? Is there any way to boost the signal from the Time Capsule (power, external antenna, etc.)? Moving it is not an viable option. Thanks in advance.

Having a strong signal does not necessarily equate to a usable signal. It may be that there is significant wireless interference and the data packets are being affected and reducing the bandwidth.

  • Airport Express with Time Capsule: How does it work?

I don't know much about newtorking but wanted to ask this:
I am considering buying a 1tb Time Capsule. I use Airport Express now so I can stream iTunes to my home entertainment system. Is the configuration supposed to be this? See below:
-Plug the Time Capsule into the cable modem for internet access
-Plug the APE into the Time Capsule with (ethernet? USB?) to power its Air Tunes capabilities
I would love to gain the back up and simplicity of Time Capsule but I am not giving up Air Tunes.
    Any replies appreciated. Thanks.

So it sounds like I should just leave Airport Express as my networking hub/internet connection point, and let Time Capsule acquire a spot on the network, then I can access it that way.
I guess I thought that Time Capsule had to be the primary router/internet connection for the network, and Airport Express would become sub to that.
I think I prefer the first option over my idea.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Replacing an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule

I have had my wireless network setup and working for a few years.
I've decided to replace my Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule.
Can I simply disconnect the Airport Extreme, connect the Time Capsule and configure it with the same SSID & Password? or is there a procedure for accomplishing this that I'm not aware of?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
What you describe should work, but first you might want to try this approach: Use AirPort Utility to put the Extreme into "manual setup" mode. Use the menu option File -> Export Configuration File to write the configuration to a file. Replace the Extreme with the Time Capsule, put it into "manual setup" mode, and use the menu option File -> Import Configuration File to read the Extreme configuration into the Time Capsule.
Full disclosure: I haven't tried this. If it works, you'll have saved yourself several minutes of configuring. If it doesn't work, then proceed as you originally planned. And let the rest of us know how things went.

  • Airport issues with time capsule

I've searched the forum, but haven't found a solution to my problem on here. I have a macbook pro and a 500 GB time capsule, and am using airport for wireless internet access through the time capsule. Everything has been working fine for about 3 months, time machine does regular back ups. However, just recently when it attempts to do a back up, the airport loses the network connection and I can't access the time capsule or the interent, and the back up fails. When i check the status of airport, it is turned off, and when I attempt to turn it back on, nothing happens...? Can anyone help or know of a possible solution???

I'm having the same problem with my Time Capsule, which is my TM drive for my MacBook and my wi-fi router for all the notebooks on my netowrk (and ethernet-connected to the desktop Gateway PC running Vista).  One of the reasons I bought it (besides not wanting to be tethered to a portable HD) was because with my old Netgear wi-fi router I kept losing my internet connection.  Worked fine for a week and a half, but then I started losing the connection on my MacBook.  Was also having problems with some of my cordless phones (5.8GHz)not getting dial tone. Friend suggested changing the TC's wireless channel, so I went into AirPort Utility and changed it from Automatic to 8.  I got a window warning me the TC might not be available for a while, which is the understatement of the year. Now (even 2 hrs later) when I run AirPort Utility it tells me "no Apple wireless devices were found" and my network doesn't appear on the AirPort Status menu; on my husband's WinXP laptop my network has also disappeared. I rebooted and rebooted my MacBook (to no avail--previously, it brought back my network). I'm typing this from the desktop PC Ethernet-connected to the TC which is in turn Ethernet-connected to the cable modem, so I know there's nothing wrong (right now) with my cable modem or ISP. I am afraid to unplug and replug the TC, as I might lose even this hard-wired connection. Oh, and the friggin' phones still don't work. (Only one phone in the house gets a dial tone and it's a cordless identical to the others!).
HELP!!!!!!!!! Apple Care is on vacation for the holiday, apparently.

  • Airport speeds with Time Capsule

    Hi,
The problem I have is this. When I plug my macbook via ethernet into my time capsule I get download speeds of average 800kb/s. When I'm using wifi I only get 25-45kb/s.
I have my time capsule set up in WDS mode with an Airport Express. The Airport Express isn't 802.11 N, would that make that much of a difference?
This makes almost all internet tasks either extremely slow or impossible (youtube and video streaming)
    Any suggestions very much appreciated!

By now, millions of users have updated to 7.6 and I cannot recall seeing a post similar to yours on this forum.
As far as a "known issue", you would need to contact Apple regarding that.
Suggest that you have the AirPort checked out at an Apple store if you have one near you.

  • Extend Airport Express with Time Capsule? So just one Wi-Fi network in my house ? Possible?

    Hi!
I did Google and try to get it working at home - but I can't get it to work. I want to be able to walk in my house without my iPhone/iPad loosing the Wi-Fi signal because now there is downstairs and a upstairs wi-fi network.
So the thing I want is.. I got a Airport Express on the ground floor which is for my Wi-Fi network there.
On my 2nd floor I want my Time Capsule to extend this network - so that my iPhone picks that Wi-Fi up straight away. Now when I am upstairs my iPhone is still connected to the wi-fi from downstairs (which it can't reach) and so I am not connected. Which results in me having to manually switch to the upstairs network..
My question : Is it possible to setup a Wi-Fi network downstairs and have my Time Capsule repeat it (so not a new network) for upstairs use?
Hope someone can help me and this is possible!
    Thnx in advance!

  • Airport Express with Time Capsule - Nowhere near 802.11n speeds!

I currently have a Time Capsule set up in bridge mode, giving me a wired+wireless network off my Belkin modem. I just bought an Airport Express to serve as a wireless bridge (to connect my wired PC to the network) but transferring files across the APE-TC connection goes at a woefully slow 3-4MB/s! (When I connect my 802.11n laptop to the TC directly via wireless, it was 3-4x faster.)
This problem happens whether the TC is set to either create a second discrete 5GHz network or not. I noticed that if I run this separate 5GHz network, and I connect the APE to the 2.4GHz one manually, the transfer speed slows to 1-2MB/s.
How do I get it to go faster? The APE and TC are only about 5m apart (+ 1 wall).

    Welcome to the discussions!
    +What to do?+
The iPhone does tend to remember the router that it is originally connected to.
If you plan to use the iPhone most of the time when you are in proximity of the AirPort Express, I suggest that you delete the current WiFi connection on the iPhone, restart the device, locate it near the AirPort Express, and set up a new connection to your network.
Works for me. May or may not work for you.
