Communication between portlet channels

Hi.
Lets say I have 2 channels in a tablecontainer on my portal desktop.
One will list a set of Objects: object1, object2, object3 as html links.
The other channel will show html code for one specific object, by getting some instance variables in a jsp and printing them.
I call these the list-channel and the details-channel.
Now what I want is, that when one clicks in the list on a specific object, e.g. object3, then the other channel must load the object.
My intention was to do this by using PortletContext by setting an portletcontext attribute when the user clicks an object in the list and then refresh the page. The details-channel jsp page could than get the attribute from the portletcontext and load and show the clicked object.
But I don't understand technically how to do this? Can someone explain?
I also am not sure this is the good way to do this? Is there a better way?

Portal 6: The recommended approach is to package the portlets into the same WAR file so that they can share session information. Use the session to pass information from one portlet to the next.
Portal 7: There is a new portlet communication API that is part of Portal 7. If you can wait just a little while, I would recommend implementing this type of functionality with the new release. Portal 7 will be released soon.

  • Help!  Communication between portlets on diffrence pages

    I have two portal pages (A, B) including two portlets (A', B'). When click a link on portlet in page A, i want to redirect to page B and pass parameter to porlet B'.
    I tried using Portlet Event but it seem that they just only communicate with each other on the same page.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks very much!

    Ok.
    Assuming that you have configured portlet.xml with public-render-parameter associated to your portlet. For example:
    <portlet id="...">
    <supported-public-render-parameter>yourparam</supported-public-render-parameter>
    </portlet>
    <public-render-parameter>
            <identifier>yourparam</identifier>
            <name>yourparam</name>
    </public-render-parameter>And you created your page_parameter.
    Now in runtime when you add your portlet assign value from page parameter in parameters tab.
    In your portlet you can get your parameter with
    PortletRequest req = (PortletRequest)FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest();
    String location = req.getParameter("yourparam");PD: Wiring by parameters is so "old", you can try with Contextual Events too :). I recommed you starting to know Contextual Events framework to wire information between task flows, portlets, ui components...
    Basically with contextual events you have to:
    1) Create a handler method.
    2) Create a Data Control from your Java Handler class.
    3) Publish in binding layer your method.
    4) Publish a event in your page.
    5) Configure Event map: event published - your method consumer
    Off doc about wiring: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/webcenter.1111/e10149/pages_wiring.htm#BABIIGDD
    I hope you'll achieve your goal :).

    Hi ,
    I am trying to create inter communication with 2 portlets . I created 2 portlets and created a global parameter(params1) which i used in both the portlets. My requirement is that i need to enter a value in first portlet and by clicking a button in first portlet, i should be able to display the same value in my second portlet. I created them but was getting an error when i am clicking on the button in first portlet.

  • Communication between two portlets - Java Portlet JSR168

    Communication between two portlets
    Hi All,
    i want to be question how do communication between two portlets. Exam:
    I have 2 portlets in a portal together: a Menu portlet & a Content portlet, now i want when i click to an link of portlet Menu then my Content portlet will get param from link that.
    i'm develop by Oracle Jdeveloper tool & OracleAS 10g.
    Thank a lot !

    Hello,
    I assume you are not using Weblogic Portal, correct? If you are using Weblogic Portal, you could use events to communicate between two JSR168 portlets, but this only works in Weblogic Portal.
    If you are not using Weblogic Portal, the only way to communicate between two JSR 168 portlets is to put an attribute in the session in one portlet, and retrieve it from the session in the other portlet. For example, to set a value in your Menu portlet, given a javax.portlet.PortletRequest variable "request", and an object you want to send to the content portlet in the variable "menuChoice":
    javax.portlet.PortletSession session = request.getPortletSession(true);
    session.setAttribute("menuChoice", menuChoice, javax.portlet.PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE);
    Then, in your content portlet to retrieve the value of the menuChoice variable you would do this:
    javax.portlet.PortletSession session = request.getPortletSession(true);
    Object menuChoice = session.retAttribute("menuChoice", javax.portlet.PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE);

  • Encrypting communication between an app that uses an ODBC/DSN (with ADODB) and SQL Server 2008 R2

    I've been doing a lot of reading the last couple of days on how we can encrypt db communication between our product app and a customer's SQL Server db, but cannot make it work as expected. The app uses a ODBC/DSN to connect to the SQL Server db. I use this
    ODBC app to setup the DSN (on a Windows 7 PC):
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
    The  DSNconnection uses the SQL Server driver 6.01.7601.17514 and has these properties:
    - WinNT authentication.
    - Client Config button: TCP/IP to <server-name>\<instance.-name>
    - Change to default db: <name-of-app-db>
    - Everything else is default setting.
    SQL Server is on the same Windowns 7 PC and has a self-signed cert installed (used IIS to generate it) and has the Force Enryption set to "yes".
    I have a test C# program that uses the ADODB 2.7.0.0 COM-wrapper, made by Visual Studio after adding a reference to the ADO 2.7 library version 6.1.7601.17857. The program creates an ADODB.Connection object that has a simple connection string: "DSN=<san-name>;UID=<user>;PWD=<password>". The
    program then creates an ADODB.Recordset object and reads and displays a field from a table.
    Works fine.
    If I go into SQL Server and set Force Encryption to "no," clear the cert, restart the SQL service, and then re-run the program, it works fine.
    Here's the kick. If I go into the DSN and select "Use strong encryption for data" the Test button on the DSN works—why does it work? The SQL Server is no longer encrypting the connection so an error should occur. If I run the test program, it works
    as well—why? I can look at the connection properties in the test program and see that ADODB has added the ";Encrypt-yes" stuff to the end of the connection string. Yet that option seems to have no effect.
    If I set the SQL instance back to Force Encryption:yes, enable the cert, restart the SQL service, and clear the DSN's "Use strong encryption for data" option, I can still connect to the db with the
    test program—why?
    What am I doing wrong? I need to be able to ensure that the communication between our app product and the SQL instance is encrypted, and that we get an error if the SQL instance does not support encrypted communications. We really don't want the customer
    to have to enable Force Encryption because they have other db's on their SQL Server that do not use encrypted communication, but they want to know that our product's communication channel with the db is encrypted.
    No, I can't change the app product's code at this point in time. I'm stuck with working with what a DSN called from ADODB has to offer.
    Also, how can I be sure that communications are encrypted? I mean, I've tried things like "SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_connections" but that doesn't help because I have no idea how to tie the list of sessions shown back to my test program, although
    I guess it's a good thing that some of the sessions listed show encrypt_option as TRUE.
    -glenn-

    Ah yes, very good point. It's easy to miss because you have to delete then recreate the DSN in order to change drivers. So I switched the DSN over to the SQL Native 11 driver.
    Now when I try to connect to the SQL instance as <computer-name>\<instance-name>, and without a cert on the server, I get "the target principal name is incorrect". Perfect; now we're getting somewhere!
    Change my DSN to use <fqdn>\<instance-name> and it works. This tells me that SQL Server has auto-generated a cert and named it <fqdn>. I would have expected the "cert fail" error, not a cert
    name mismatch, because I'm not using Trust Server Cert.
    So I load up my self-signed cert, and that works too.
    I am still confused as to why I'm not seeing the "cert fail" error when I have no cert loaded on the SQL Server. I am not using Force Encryption on the server at all, so wouldn't expect SQL Server to auto-create a cert when an Encrypt=yes request comes in,
    but apparently it does?
    I also ran into a problem with this:
    select c.session_id, c.encrypt_option, s.client_interface_name
    from sys.dm_exec_connections c
    join sys.sysprocesses s
      on c.session_id = s.session_id
    where s.dbid = db_id('MyDatabase')
    There is no s.client_interface_name, probably should be s.hostname. There's also no s.session_id. I thought maybe this should be s.sid, but then no rows ever come back. The c.session_id looks like 51 and 52, but the s.sid looks like a very long binary number,
    so these two fields cannot be joined. I don't know how to convert the sid's properly so that the join would work. Ah wait, I just found the s.spid column; the join works when that column is used (I assume that's correct anyhow).
    If I add a Thread.Sleep(30 seconds) to my C# program just before the connection is closed, this query shows me the session for the correct hostname has encrypt_option=TRUE.
    And I have to keep my fingers crossed that all the app I/O will still work properly after
    changing the driver. Probably a safe bet though.
    Think I'm ready to throw in the towel on getting the "cert fail/no SSL" error to appear.
    It does look like I am able to sufficiently show that the connection is encrypted when Encrypt=yes is used with the newer driver.
    Thank for all the help!

  • Communication between separate ADF Web Applications

    Using 11.1.1.5 of JDeveloper I have two Fusion Web Applications that each have a single "view" task flow. Those task flows will be dropped into regions within a WebCenter Portal application so they behave like portlets. I'd like to have a value from one app passed to the other app and have the second app respond to the change. It seems like it should take about 10 minutes but so far... two weeks without any progress. I'm incredibly frustrated. Does anyone have a simple list of the steps I need to perform to pass parameters between task flows? Please help! All I'm looking for is step 1: set up this, step 2: set up that. I can't believe it's this hard.
    All of the samples I find on line are about inter portlet communication with JSR 286 portlets, WSRP portlet producers or inter-component communication. I've read this too: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2011/11-may/o31adf-352561.html but I haven't been working with JDev and WebCenter for 5 years so it simply doesn't make sense. For example, one piece of sample code looks like this
    public void handleEventStringPayload(String customPayLoad) {
    FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ELContext elctx = fctx.getELContext();
    ExpressionFactory exprFactory =
    fctx.getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
    ValueExpression ve =
    exprFactory.createValueExpression(elctx, "#{backingBeanScope.mirrorPageBean}",
    Object.class);
    MirrorPageBean mirrorPageBean = (MirrorPageBean)ve.getValue(elctx);
    mirrorPageBean.setMirrorValue(customPayLoad);
    AdfFacesContext adfFacesContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    adfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(mirrorPageBean.getMirrorTextField());
    Pretend I don't know the nine layers of technology involved here. Why in the world do I need all of this stuff in this order just to set a parameter... or is that NOT what this is doing? Why are they doing addPartialTarget? What does that do? Why do they have an EventObjectHandler and an EventStringHandler? The article is clearly written for an experienced WebCenter developer and that simply isn't me. If anyone has a resource that shows me how to pass parameters between web apps that actually explains the steps needed and why they need to be taken, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi!.
    To communicate two regions (ADF Task Flows) in a WebCenter Portal Page you have "Contextual Events Framework".
    You can learn it following this Blog entries:
    http://technology.amis.nl/blog/3365/adf-11g-how-events-in-one-region-cause-other-regions-to-refresh

  • Integration between portlets using JSR 168

    I've developed 3 portlets but I want them talking with each other, in a way that is JSR 168 compliant.
    For example, I have a search box portlet, where the user can only type search expressions, a search result portlet, where the user will see search results, and a search summary portlet, where the user will see statistics about search.
    First question: how can I send data from one portlet to another? Is HttpSession a safe place to share data between portlets? Can I trust that all containers will create a single HttpSession per user?
    Second question: how can one portlet force refresh of another, or even hide or show up another portlet?

    Well it is a very smart question..
    To be more precise i don't think it is been properly answered with
    JSR 168 specification.
    However,there few best practises followed in order to achieve it.
    The idea of using HttpSession (PortletSession.getHttpSession() with Usage of AJAX) as you said it certainly one of the things which evryone would think.

  • Is in PI7.1 possible asynchronous communication between SOAP and ABAPProxy?

    Hi,
    when method execute_asynchronous has disapeared since XI/PI 7.1, is
    there still way how to use ABAP proxy in asynchronous way?
    We need to build asynchronous connection SOAP->PI->ABAP_Proxy.
    In PI, both interfaces are defined as asynchronous (outbound for SOAP and
    inbound for ABAP Proxy).
    Despite of this fact, when message is sent, it is processed
    synchronous way.
    I have set breakpoint in my implementation of method for ABAP Proxy
    message processing. When message is sent and breakpoint is reached,
    whole connection stays open (between SOAP and PI and between PI and
    ABAP Proxy) and waits for processing method (the breakpointed one) to
    return. Only when processing method returns, is connection finelly
    closed.
    If i understand it correctly, this is synchronous behavior. In
    asynchronous behavior, as i understand it, should be connection
    between PI and ABAP Proxy of application server closed immediately
    after message has been delivered. This mean before my processing
    method is even called.
    The same could be said about SOAP and PI communication. Connection
    should be closed immediately after PI has received message. From
    definition of asynchronous communication of PI is obvious, that PI
    should receive message correctly and close connection to sender system
    even when receiver is unreachable. It should deliver message later
    when, receiver system is back on line. So why it keeps connection to
    sender system open while it waits for receiver?
    Why is this happening, when both interfaces are defined as
    asynchronous? Could be the reason for this, if APPLICATION
    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT is set on by default? If so, how can i change it
    to SYSTEM ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, or disable it at all?
    Or is this kind of asynchronous communication even possible since
    XI/PI 7.1 ?
    Processing of message we are sending can take some time, so we dont
    want connection pending open while waiting for finish of
    processing. Thats the reason why we have chose asynchronous model to
    use.

    Quote from How to Use the J2EE SOAP Adapter:
    "If you select Best Effort, the Web service client will receive a response
    message in the SOAP body. Otherwise, the Web service client will not receive a
    response message if no error occurs."
    "if no error occurs" - that is the problem. In either case he still
    waits if some error occure or not. I dont want it. Once PI has
    received message, I want the connection with sender to be closed. If
    there will be error in communication between PI and reciever, I want
    to see it only in PI log. That mean no notification to sender to be
    send about that error.
    Is that possible?

  • Communication between Best Buy and Apple

    Where is the communication between these two companies? It's frustrating to have NO CLUE if a phone will come in a day or in 5 weeks. Who at Apple is deciding what they end to what stores? Obviously, Best Buy has to pay for the phones. There has to be some sort of communication.
    Would it really be that hard for someone high up in Best Buy to communicate with Apple? Maybe a list from each store of their orders and what they are waiting on. Give that to Apple. Apple can give some sort of answer. Exepect this much in this time frame... expect this much later. I mean, something. Instead of leaving everyone in the dark, completely.
    Someone at Best Buy corporate has to have SOME clue how Apple is shipping and to what stores. To say no one has no clue at all, is nuts. And if it's true... Best Buy needs to get a clue. DO SOME WORK FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS. At least get some truth, so if we need to go elsewhere, we can. It would be better for both sides.

    Apparently since they come on UPS, they don't know when the shipments are coming in or how much. Which I think is bull.
    If that's the case, what I want to know is HOW do they know they received the amount they were expecting? If they don't know how much they're getting or when they're getting a shipment, then what's stopping the delivery man from stealing a box, and they wouldn't know any better? Maybe the higher up manager's know, and they aren't allowed to reveal that info, but there has to be a checks system in there somewhere verifying the stock received.

  • Communication between iViews

    How to realize communication between two iViews of the same window but not the same portal page? I tried with using firing portal events but this doesn’t seem to work with Mozilla Firefox. Do you have any other ideas?
    The sending iView is a portal application the receiving iView a Web Dynpro for ABAP application (so I cant use JavaScript, I guess).
    Thanks!

    Hi Mrkvicka,
    To enable communication between iviews you need to use the EPCF .
    You can raise an event in the component of the first iview and define an OnClick event.
    this event you can subscribe from the other iview
    Refer to this link to get a more clear picture
    DropDown Selection and EPCF
    also refer to
    EPCF
    hope this helps,

  • Communication between jsp and abstractportalcomponent

    Hello All
    Communication between jsp and abstractPortalComponent.
    jsp contains one input text field and one submit button.
    when the user clicks on submit button it will call the component and that input value will
    display in same jsp page.
    how this communication will happen?
    Rgrds
    Sri

    Hi Srikanth,
    In the JAVA File,
    OnSubmit Event,
    String inputvalue ;
    InputField myInputField = (InputField) getComponentByName("Input_Field_ID");
    if (myInputField != null) {
                   inputvalue = myInputField.getValueAsDataType().toString();
    request.putValue("textvalue", inputvalue);
    request is IPORTALCOMPONENTREQUEST Object.
    In JSP File,   to retreive the value,
    <%
    String  textstring = (String) ComponentRequest.getValue("textvalue");
    %>
    In PORTALAPP.XML File,
    <component name="component name">
          <component-config>
            <property name="ClassName" value="classname"/>
            <property name="SafetyLevel" value="no_safety"/>
          </component-config>
          <component-profile>
            <property name="tagLib" value="/SERVICE/htmlb/taglib/htmlb.tld"/>
          </component-profile>
        </component>
    Using the code above, You can pass and read values between abstract portal component and Jsp Page.
    Instead of this, I suggest you to use JSPDYNPAGE Component for Data Exchange.

  • Communication between : AP and WLAN controller

    Hi,
    The communication between AP and WLAN Controller is ( Data and Control ) UDP.
    Source port 1024 and destination port 12222 and 12223. Actually which device listen to which port or both should listen as control and data can be generated from both the devices.
    How does the user ( wireless client) traffic is switched - if user traffic is a TCP traffic. It will be sent to WLANC and then WLANC forwards it to respective VLAN or default gateway ( depending upon the destination in the packet ).
    Please explain / share the experience.
    any link on cisco.com
    Thanka in advance
    Subodh

    "the LWAPP Control and Data messages are encapsulated in UDP packets that are carried over the IP network. The only requirement is established IP connectivity between the access points and the WLC. The LWAPP tunnel uses the access point's IP address and the WLC's AP Manager interface IP address as endpoints. The AP Manager interface is explained in further detail in the
    implementation section. On the access point side, both LWAPP Control and Data messages use an ephemeral port that is derived from a hash of the access point MAC address as the UDP port. On the WLC side, LWAPP Data messages always use UDP port 12222. On the WLC side, LWAPP Control messages always use UDP port 12223.
    The mechanics and sequencing of Layer 3 LWAPP are similar to Layer 2 LWAPP except that the packets are carried in UDP packets instead of being encapsulated in Ethernet frames."

  • Communication between HP eprint and Google Cloud Print

    Hi,
    the communication between HP eprint and Google Cloud Print seems to be broken. At least for me.
    The documents do get printed when I print vio Chrome browser or Cloud Print dashboard -- but the status in cloud print remains as "submitted". It seems like somehow the HP eprint status doen't get reported back to cloud print. In HP eprintcenter the log says "printed".
    Well, I wonder who will take care of this problem ...  (Hope it will not result in fingerpointing only ...)
    Thanks for your support!
    Best,

    Are you able to log back in later and the status at Google Cloud print update to reflect the true outcome of the print job? Or does it just remain as "submitted". Otherwise, if it is printing and showing in the log at ePrint Center (EPC) as printed, the issue would not be on the ePrint side but on Google's
