Communication error can't print

I've tried checked other posts but can't find an answer. I have a new Airport Extreme and it work wirelessly with my printer fine for awhile. Then out of the blue I couldn't print. I've tried for several days to fix it to no avail. When I go to print I see my printer and it's set up in the preferences (fax/print). But I keep getting a communication error. I've pulled the plug, turned off hardware as directed in the help menu. I still can't get it to work. I can print wired on my laptop and iMac flat panel.

Really need some help with this.

Is there any settings or fix required to over come this issue ?
Is this error is specific to Operating System and Crystal Reports patch ?
Could you please provide me the solution regarding this.

    Thanks Don.
when I verify the fiddler, on clicking the print icon in the viewer the aspx post back happens and refers to the url wrongly.  It is referring the virtual directory twice.
Ex. Actual url should be http://<servername>/<virtual directory>/<application directory>/report.aspx
    But it is calling as http://<servername>/<virtual directory>/<virtual directory>/<application directory>/report.aspx
This above url problem occurs only during activex printing post back.  This does not occur during exporting the report and report page navigation post back.

  • An communication error occurred. Printing will be stopped

    Hello,
For some reason some of our users are getting the following error message when they try to print their reports from Infoview.
I searched the internet but was unable to find an appropriate answer to this query.
Could some one please help me with this.
    Here is the error
Crystal Reports Print Control (Printing is set to Active X)
An communication error occurred. Printing will be stopped.
Any help will be highly appereciated
    Regards
    Jehanzeb

Ok this one is a strange one.
When I press print button from direct browser it gives me the above error however when I press the  + sign which is on the right hand side of the window (that brings up a new window), it prints fine.
When I choose Active X for reporting, it prints fine.
I don't understand why is it not printing with the following options
    Select a default view format:
    Web (no downloading required)
    Web ActiveX (ActiveX required)
    Web Java (Java required)
    Select printing control (for Web):
    PDF (Adobe Acrobat required)
    ActiveX one-click printing (ActiveX required)
If the above is selected (selection shown in bold) under Infoview, it doesn't print.
However if I choose the following option in Crystal Infoviewer Preferences, it works
    Select a default view format:
    Web (no downloading required)
    Web ActiveX (ActiveX required)
    Web Java (Java required)
    Select printing control (for Web):
    PDF (Adobe Acrobat required)
    ActiveX one-click printing (ActiveX required)
This one after installing Active X, works fine.
What is the problem and how come suddenly it stopped working?
    I have no idea.
Anyone having the same issue with printing from Infoview?
Any help, advise, suggestion will be welcomed.
Oh and I have checked the ActiveX Addons under Internet Explorer and they are working fine.
    Regards

For solution 1, i have installed the latest patch for CRXI and problem still remain. For solution 2, its not really applicable to us because our IIS does not use compression.

  • Communications Error trying to print to HP Photosmart C2780 via network

Setting up a new HP Photosmart C2780. Using latest drivers from vendor, running software update. Computers running 10.5 will set up and print to printer OK, but computers running 10.4.11 have a different setup procedure, and won't print once it has been added as a printer.
The HP "setup" software on 10.4.11 can't ever see the printer, but I can access the printer's web interface and use the HP utilities to print test pages fine. I can use the System Preferences Print and Fax pane to set up the printer, but here's what I get: I've tried setting it up via "More Printers" but can't see the printer under any of the options there, and adding by IP under any of the HP options won't see the printer.
I can add it as an IP printer using the LPR protocol OK, but when I print to it, I just get a "Communications interrupted" error. The print job gets hung in the queue. Again, machines running 10.5.x can see, setup, and print to the printer OK, it's just 10.4.11 that won't work.

It turns out the problem was that the network switches had some unicast functions, including those that allow Bonjour to work, disabled. The reason I got my 10.5 machine to work is that we had set up a simple, open switch to rule out the core network switches. We just got a little confused during the troubleshooting process and missed the fact that the HP setup software saw the printer and got a successful configuration while we had the local switch in place. The Printer Setup in the OS alone will not properly configure the printer until the HP setup software sees it and configures the installation.
SOLUTION: Allow all unicast traffic on network switch. Run the HP Setup software and allow it to see and configure the printer. Once the setup is complete, the unicast functions can be turned back off and printing continues to work.

  • Epson R2880 - 'Communication Error' and Partial Printing

I am having trouble printing with my Epson R2880 printer on my iMac running OS X 10.6.4 with the most recent software updates.
The printer stops printing or prints about an eighth of the document and then gives a "Communication Error" message. It also gives a the error "Error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS/ rastertoescpll"
This problem occurs regardless of the program I am using. I have tried printing from Adobe Photoshop CS4, Microsoft Word and Text Edit.
I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer. I have the most recent software update installed (driver 8.27).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver countless times as well as unplugged the USB cables and reset the print system multiple times.
I have also "repaired disk permissions" to no avail.
I can print with no problem to my HP printer. I am most desperate for assistance.
Thanks so much to anyone with any ideas!

My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
From your description, there appears to have been a problem while updating the printer driver. We would recommend contacting Epson technical support to determine where the issue is and hopefully resolve it. The direct number for your product is 562-276-7272.

  • CANON PIXMA MP640 - Communication error after a print or two

I've been very happy with this wireless machine until the last couple of weeks, when I've begun getting "a communication error has occurred" in the print window.
I re-run the Canon setup CD, download the latest driver for Snow Leopard (10.26.2.0) and all is well - for one or two operations. Then the communication error returns....
I can't think of any particular new application or programme I've installed to provoke the issue.
It's become exasperating and I've resorted to using the USB connection, which defeats the purpose.
    Any suggestions most welcome!

I had one "USB printer" set up, it worked like a charm.
I tried various "LAN printers", scanning worked fine, I could manage the printer, I could even print test pages (to check if the print nozzles where fine) from the management tool. But I could not print to the printer via LAN using the Print menu command.
I tried installing new driver software, it did not help. I tried reconfiguring the printer via the web interface. It did not help. I then tried deleting the "printers" I had created, except for the USB printer. I did the following:
    1. Opened System Preferences, Print & Fax
    2. Deleted all printers except the USB printer
    3. Clicked the + to add a new printer
    4. Selected the Default tab, and could then see the printer there.
    5. I added that printer, and could then see the printer with the canonijnetwork added to it.
    6. I added that, and now I can print using that "printer"!
Thanks a lot for the help. Please notice that, at least for me, it was essential to go to the Default tab and ad the printer from there, and that it was a two-step process (add the printer without canonijnetwork, then add it with canonijnetwork).
I wonder if anyone gets their MP640 printer to work via LAN or wireless without any problem (on OS X 10.6).
Anyhow, I can now also print successfully using LAN (the printer is connected to the router via LAN, my MacBook Pro is connected to the router wirelessly).

  • "Communication Error" message when printer is the AirPort-connected

After two years of using (and hundreds of pages printed), the printing on the Epson Stylus Photo R340, connected to the AirPort Express ('n' edition) ends just after a few centimeters of printing (now it's in 100% cases), showing one of the error messages below:
    - Printer paused (resuming/re-pausing leads to no further progress). In this case the printer is sometimes paused also un System Preferences > Print & Fax, but resuming in this level again leads to no progress
    - Printer shows "Communucation Error"
    - Printing dialog shows no error or pausing, but the result is the same as above
Removing the print task in printing dialog doesn't have any influence on the printer. In all these cases it's necessary to turn off the printer to start from the beginning.
When the printer is connected straight to the computer via USB cable, it prints as expected.
There were no software installations recently, except Apple system updates via Software Update.
Does it mean that Apple kisses the air printing goodbye or there's still hope to fix it?
    Thanks for any ideas

    Hello Syd,
thanks a lot for your suggestions. I appreciate Epson is monitoring forums like this! As I wrote above though, some of them I mentioned as performed (printer connected straight to USB port of the Mac). I also several times erased all the printers and added them again fresh, but unfortunately all still the same.
Just a few weeks ago, I printed a few dozens of pages and this happened after every about 20 pages and after printer restart, I was able to continue. Since I started this topic, the printer will not finish any single page over the AirPort Express, but prints fine when connected directly to the mac via USB.
I just don't want to bring it across the house (yes, I know I can share it on one computer for the others, but there's no room near the computer I work on and in addition, it worked before...).
So it looks like bad luck for me so far...

  • Printer communication error, canon mx870 prints one time then communication error on next print job

I have a canon mx870. It keeps sending a message that there is a communication error. I then re enter my network key and restart the printer and my macbook pro. It will print a few times then the message returns. My PC is also connected to the network and does not get this message. Any suggestions?

    Hi c,
There were some updates addressing printing issues. Run Software Update, update whatever's there, and see if that helps.

  • Communication error with Epson printer SX510W

I am getting a communication error when I try to print on my Epson SX510W  wrieless printer.  How do I correct this? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.4.
I've tried re-installing the software from the CD-Rom but it won't let me use the Quick Start, It lets me download the print driver and scan driver from the list of software on the disc but that hasn't made any difference.  I think it's a problem with the printer and the IP address, how do I correct this.  How do I find the correct IP address on the printer?
Sometimes if I turn the printer off and on again, it allows me to print just one page and then stops again.
    John Mitchell

Thanks John. I tried deleting the Epson printer folder from the library like you said and then checked for Software Updates. But Apple did not indicate that there were any for my OS (probably because I had installed the latest OS update this morning). So I installed the driver from the Epson site with the printer folder removed. But this did not work because when I tried to print the computer indicated that there were missing files. So, I reinstalled the Epson folder that I had just moved to trash, deleted the new Epson folder, then tried reinstalling the Epson driver with the original folder in place. THIS WORKED! Finally, I am off and printing but with little knowledge gained about the inner workings of my computer.

I am using Visual Studio 2005 Crystal Report for creating report. My environment is IIS 6.0 (with HTTP compression enabled), using PrintControl.cab provided by CR itself. When the HTTP compression disabled, it works and print successfully...but...when i turn on the HTTP compression i always get that error message..I already tried other approach for HTTP compression using blowery's httpmodule and exclude some files (the aspx and Printcontrol.cab..even with all Printcontrol.cab's content such as PrintControl.dll, PrintControl.inf, unicows.dll, etc) , still got the same error..I also install the Hotfix/Patch from CR called "CrystalReports10_NET_EmbeddedInstall.msi" (~ 50 mb), because it's pdf says that the error message caused by SSL mode which CR is case-sensitive to lowercase..although i am not using SSL i thought the case-sensitive problem might be the case...but i'm wrong and still got the same error....Conclusion:  It seems PrintControl.cab have problem with HTTP compression..I need HTTP compression and printing from web and both cannot co-exist peacefully.Anyone know what should i do?Or please fix that problem...need it badly and now frustated..Thanks..

Unfortunately it didn't work either. I have tried both print mode, it seems printing report have problem with HTTP compression enabled.
I was to give up on this
By the way i tried SQL Reporting Service 2005 (.rdl and .rdlc), both work with HTTP compression when printing report..so it seems the best solution is to move my reports until Crystal Report solve this problem.
    Thanks anyway.

I've owned an Epson 1280 printer for about a year now, but for some reason it no longer prints. When I print a document the pop-up message reads: "Printer communication error, try reseting printer and try again"
But that still doesnt work. My system profile can read the printer, but my printer list can not.
When I try to add a printer via Printer Setup Utility, it can't find the new drivers. Even after installing new drivers from the Epson website.
What is this communication error? And how can I fix it?

I am getting this error with CE10 when trying to print from the active X viewer.  My customer does not have IIS compression enabled and is not using a secured server, 2 reasons listed by BO as to why this could happen.  Any direction on this would be great, I can't seem to find anything relevant on this.  Please help...thanx.

Thanks Ludek. I got it by searching KB number.
Unfortunately, it didn’t fix my problem even my IE (IE8 and IE 9) has correct setting.  I double check my version. PrintControl.CAB is version 10.2.0.1146. we use VS 2005 Crystal report and VB .NET. It works fine on HTTP. But when we use HTTPS (SSL Certificate from go daddy).
