Communication port

I have to use a dial up connection. If I re-start or boot up the computer, the internet connection performs as expected. However, if I wake-up the system and then try to connect to the internet I get this message; "Could not open the communications device".
The telephone line is released when I disconnect. However, the port COM1 is not released.
Also, as I read the messages here, I also get frequent disconnects, especiually during the first 1-2 minutes of a successfull connection.
Your help to resolve this issue will be much appreciated

Are you using the right cable?
Have you configured the COM port correctly?
Are you sure your phone understands the commands you're sending?
I can't see that you ever read anything from the COM port?
Have you studied the phones manual?
It's usually simpler to start with a so called TTY-program to establish communication with an external device. A TTY-program just transmit everything from the keybord to the port, and everything from the port to the screen.

  • Client communication port for workgroup servers

We have SCCM 2012 R2 Single Primary Site in intranet. We have PKI with ADCS 2012. We are in process of mirating to HTTPS communication using certificates. We have few servers in workgroup and we plan to manage those servers with configuration manager by
manually installing client and specifying smsmp=sccm fqdn. for lookup management point.
Can we change client communication port for these servers?
For successful client communication do we need to open any ports except 443 in firewall?
What all ports needed to be open in this scenario?

    Hi,
You configure the Communications port for the MP in the site so they must use the same ports, you can configure alternate ports so if it cannot communicate on port 443 it tries the next port.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712276.aspx
443 is sufficient, the client will also try to communicate on port 10123 for Client Notification,
    http://www.google.se/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fblogs.technet.com%2Fb%2Fconfigmgrteam%2Farchive%2F2012%2F09%2F27%2Ffast-channel-for-system-management.aspx&ei=1dAhU7qqOIL8ygPb1IHQAQ&usg=AFQjCNF4_G2sZBMbDDtJa95LBx7EYYBrRw
But it should fallback to 443 if not available as well.

  • Error on database communication port

    Dear Guru's,
While installing solman, database communication port 5912 has been used by another instance which was running on the same host. Could any one suggest is it possible to have any other port number other than 5912.
    regards,

    Hi,
    Guess you are using DB2?
    try this
db2set DB2COMM = TCPIP to set the value.
Suggest you to check database manager configuration parameters once before changing the parameter.
    Feel free to revert back.

  • Communication port in use

    Hi all.
We're developing an application that controls several devices via USB ports. Communication with the devices and port management are carried out by C++ dll functions which LabView executes via Call Library Function nodes.
These dll functions sometimes leave the ports open even when we stop the main program execution, so that LabView generates the error message "The communication port is in use" if we try to continue working with this particular device. The only solution seems to be to close the LabView application and enter again.
So, is there any way we can open or close these ports through LabView code and then make the communication via external code?
    Regards,
    Francisco

It's not clear what is leaving the ports open.  Is it your LabVIEW code? or you C++/dll code?
If you are using LabVIEW and VISA functions to work with your devices, there is a VISA close function.
If your C++ / dll code is working with the devices, then you should get that code to close the ports.

  • Java and communication port

    Hi all
I want to know if java can communicate with a device , for example a TPE (Terminal de Paiement Electronique), via the PC communication port . I want to send and receive informations between a java stored procedure and the TPE.
    Thank you very much indeed.

In case if you find any Win32 Calls or C++ calls which accomplish your requirement, You might write an JNI wrapper over it and use those java APIs.

  • Random jmx communication port

i have a setup with 2 node agents and 1 DAS behind a firewall.
from what i understand, in order for the node agents to communicate with the DAS, a communication channel is created on a random port via JMX.
the problem here is with the random port having to operate over a firewall. Is there any way to assign a fixed port for JMX communication?

8686 is the initial communication port for JMX,
do an "grep jmx-connector" on server.xml, you can see 3 ports as a result. Open those ports in your firewall and try.
One will be 8686 which will be for DAS-SERVER
<admin-service system-jmx-connector-name="system" type="das-and-server">another with variable JMX_SYSTEM_CONNECTOR_PORT, which you can see from admin console. This is for Server

  • Cannot detect communication port

I am trying to sync my Curve with Outlook on my new computer.  I download and re-run/install the application loader/desktop software, and not matter what, I cannot select or detect my communication port.   My device shows as connected but nothing appears in the drop down and I am unable to select the detect checkbox.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Hello risagator and welcome to the support forums
Are you connecting directly into a USB port on the computer, or a USB hub? If it's a hub try directly into a USB port. Also if you have another cable to try with to rule that out
Have a look at this KB article for other troubleshooting USB connection steps

  • JSSE Communication Port

    Hi,
I have a query about JSSE. When JSSE apis are called to communicate over a SSL channel, does JSSE use any fixed port/range of ports?
To give a background, assuming a machine hosting JSSE apis is behind a firewall and need to open only the ports specified, then can we specify communication ports which will be used by JSSE?
    Prasad.

    Hi,
I have a query about JSSE. When JSSE apis are called
to communicate over a SSL channel, does JSSE use any
    fixed port/range of ports?
It dependes what do you mean for "JSSE apis are called to comunicate over a SSL channel".
If you are developing a server supporting JSSE, then you are allowed to use any port you want.
If you are writting the client side app, JSSE will open any local port it needs.
To give a background, assuming a machine hosting JSSE
apis is behind a firewall and need to open only the
ports specified, then can we specify communication
ports which will be used by JSSE?Read above.
    Hope this helps.

  • Communication port for JCo

    Hi All,
I am about to install JCo in Solaris server. I want to confirm one thing.
Which is the port I need to open up for JCo to communicate to SAP server?
The version of JCo is "SAP JCo 2.1.8 ".
Is there any documents regarding the communication port?
    All inputs are welcome

I think you need to open 3200 and 3300.
The following is the list of all related ports:
    sapdp##  32##/tcp # SAP Dispatcher.       3200 + System-Number
    sapgw##  33##/tcp # SAP Gateway.          3300 + System-Number

  • ACS and Windows 2000 user database communication port

Could my Windows 2000 SP4 + ACS v3.23 can install any new Windows 2000 service pack ?
I'm affraid to infect ACS Service.
So, I want to install firewall on this server to block malicious traffic.
However, my ACS used external user database Windows 2000 for authentication.
Who can tell me What protocols or port list they are communication?
I have to avoid these traffic on my firewall.

    Hi cheng
I think you can install any servie pack without problem and the SP4 is the latest one for WIN2000 and you server already has this SP
For your second question you need to specify many protocols according to your active directory config in this link you can find a list of this protocols and the best way is to make debug or logging or use a siniffer to know the exactly protocols flow between your ACS and AD server

  • Change default communication port for BITS

We are currently using ConfigMgr2007 (native mode).  We currently have a global GPO wihich is throttling BITS to 56kpbs during current business hours (8am-5pm).  It has been suggest to use QoS to controll the amount of traffic used by SCCM distributions
to clients.  Seeing the BITS uses HTTP (80) and HTTPS (443) by default, is there a way to change the default ports used by BITS.
I did find the following article (About Configuration Manager Client Installation Properties)
that there are two setting which can change the default ports.
    CCMHTTPPORT=
    CCMHTTPSPORT=
Is there any other methods to change the Default port for BITS communication as a whole.

Thanks Kent and Jason.  I know I posted in the ConfigMgr forum and you pointed my to the proper documentation.  We have non-Microsoft email archiving product which utilizes BITS which is the reason for the general question regarding BITS.
I did not see a dedicated forum for BITS so I posted here.
The documentation as suggested by Kent will assist with making changes for ConfigMgr if necessary.

  • Internal Communication Port - Portal

    Hello,
One of my third party software installations require me to make sure that the port used by the software (for internal logging) is opened. Below are the exact words.
Ports used for communicating must be open. This refers to port xxxx (eg.3001). Local to J2EE machine. It should be already opened.
Where / how do I verify if this port is already opened and if not, how do I open this port?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Port can be opened by entering the details in the services file and you can test the port using the command..
    telnet <IP or hostname> <port to be test>
If you get the response from the port, means the port is open.
    With Regards,

    Hello adigerimu,
If you are using National Instruments ComponentWorks (Tools for Visual Basic) package, you can find serial examples located at "C:\MeasurementStudio\VB\Samples\Instr\Basic Serial" or wherever you installed Measurement Studio. We also have an example that uses VISA online at http://zone.ni.com then click RESOURCE LIBRARY >> COMPONENTWORKS >> GENERAL and look for links that mention "serial". If you are not using ComponentWorks, then this is not the appropriate newsgroup for your question, and I would recommend you start by looking at http://www.msdn.microsoft.com.
