Communication with XRAID via XRAID Admin frustration
I have an XRAID that properly mounts and works flawlessly from a storage point of view. However, I can't seem to be able to communicate with the device via RAID Admin. I have hard reset the power (unplug for > 1hour) the RAID.
To start the debug process, I downloaded RAID Admin onto my macbook pro and tried to find the XRAID. It worked perfectly. I can see both ethernet cards. It reports all is well with the device. I am spinning my wheels trying to find out what the difference between the two setups are.
I tried to manually input the ip addresses of the RAID controller (that I received from my laptop. 169.xxx.xx.xx from both cards) on my xserve to establish the connection with no success.
My xserve has a DNS without automatic client Bonjour browsing for domain enabled. My network input to my server comes from a comcast cable modem to an apple extreme then to the server.
Any ideas to further debug are really appreciated.
Much thanks
darnelld
What is the IP address of the computer your are trying to reach the 169.x machines? I'll assume you're talking about 169.254.x.x address - it must also be in the 169.254.x.x IP address range to talk to a network connection.
Certain IP ranges are set aside as special (169.254.. is self-assigned, 192.168.. is local) and are unroutable from outside that space. If your computer is on a publicly addressable space you will not be able to establish communication with a computer in any of these special non-routable ranges.
You either need to force a computer into the same space or make (at least) one of the network cards have a publicly reachable IP address via DHCP or whatever method you want.

Communicating with Eurotherm via et24xx driver
I am trying to get a Eurtherm model 2408 integrated with
Labview. I have installed the et24xx package and the latest version of VISA. I am receiving an error message right off the
bat (1073807339). Any thoughts?I know what you are talking about now. If you set up the com port in the server, then the scan will work. Open the server from iTools, then configure the com port. Once you select the com port, hit the edit button to set the baud rate. See attachments.

Warning lights on XRAID but RAID Admin won't mount it.
I have 3 Final Cut edit suites sharing 2 x 7TB XserveRAIDs.
I had an audible alarm on one of my RAIDs an amber flashing light by the System Identifier Button.
Edit 2 started up fine and my editor was happily working away. I then went Edit 2 to mount the RAID storage - made up of 2 x 7TB XserveRAIDs each split into 2 partitions providing a total of 4 volumes creating my volume based SAN. As I tried to mount the RAIDs using SANmp I had real issues. Eventually got the volumes mounted but then had the greyed out screen of doom when I tried loading up a Final Cut Pro project and had to do a forced shut down.
Edit 2 was still working but I then had similar problems in Edit 1 - not able to mount partitions and unable to load projects.
I tried looking up the RAIDs on the RAID Admin Tool but I'm only seeing 1 RAID when I should be seeing 2. The AID that is mounted is not giving me any errors which makes me think I've lost communication with the RAID with the problem.
Should I just shut the whole system down and hope it starts talking to me again when I fire it up again?
I just want to get on an edit my show.
Thanks.William: Thanks for your reply, but you seem to be wide of the target here.
RAID Admin can connect to the RAID,
but doesn't see drives?
No. I can run RAID Admin on the Xserve or on a separate laptop, and either way RAID Admin can't find any RAIDs to show in the list of available RAIDs. So it doesn't even get to the stage where it can see any individual drives, since it doesn't find the RAID unit in the first place.
The red light you're seeing, as well as the
fact that Disk Utility can see all the drives
as individuals,
Clarification: Disk Utility is showing symbols for drives, but of course these are really partitions of the RAID, not the individual physical hard drives in the RAID.
indicates that either stuff is set in JBOD mode
... well I'd love to report what mode it's in, but RAID Admin won't show me . However, judging by the fact that there's no part of the file system that's obviously missing, (and also by our original intent when this was set up) I'm 99.9% sure it's in some redundant mode, and 99.8% sure that is simply in default RAID-5 mode.
or something is seriously wrong...
... depending on the meaning of "seriously"!
I'd guess the RAID set (and any data that
was on it) is gone.
... though as I noted in original post, it's in everyday use, including by me, and I've not detected any missing data, aside from a handful of files (out of total approx 2 million files) that return read errors.

Why do you need to enable http communication with Basic authentication with Exchange Admin IP?
The pre-reqs for the Exchange Admin IP say you have to make a few changes on your Exchange server (2010 on prem in my case). I have a few questions about those pre-reqs and I'm not able to find documentation online to help:
Why does http communication with basic authentication for the powershell virtual directory in IIS need to be enabled? In the IP you still specify to connect over an SSL connection. The concern is what is being sent over unencrypted and what impacts are
there to the security of the Exchange server.
What role does the IP connect to (MBX/CAS/HT)? I'm not an Exchange guy so I don't know which roles install the PowerShell virtual directory.
Are there any technet pages or white papers that talk about the MS developed IPs in any more detail than basic config?
I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks!
-RajYeah I find this perplexing as well. I'm guessing it has something to do with Opalis origins perhaps.
Would be good to understand why. -
Its not a simple baud-rate or parity error. If I issue the command to send data (X1) in hyperterminal I start to get data. If I then switch to Labview I still get data. However if I try to issue the send-data command via Labview I get nothing (i.e. I can read from the device, but not write to it).
I am on a Windows 98 (version 2) PC, running Labview 5.1.1Try adding a carraige return to the end of your command.

Hello!
I am trying to communicate with a DLP Design module DLP-USB1232H which uses an FTDI chip. My program uses the D2XX drivers. It works, but...
In another program that runs at the same time, I'm communicating with another instrument via a virtual COM port (VCP) that uses an FTDI UART. In this program, I use the VISA Serial Port functions. It works, too, but...
The first program has the capability of listing all the FTDI devices in the system prior to choosing the right one to communicate with. When the VCP is plugged in, it lists it (FT232R USB UART) along with the DLP-USB1232H and communication with the latter device works. But as soon as the second program sends a command through the VCP, the first program no longer "sees" any FTDI device. It stops working.
I have tried 2 different FTDI VCPs; one a standalone cable and the other built in to the instrument.
I’m using Windows 7 32-bit. My programs are both LabVIEW 8.5 executables.
Is VISA "taking over" the channel to the DLP-USB1232H? Does someone who understands NI's implementation of VISA have any ideas on why VISA is doing this? Or if something else is going on?
I'm also interested in workaround ideas. I've tried a "Prolific" VCP, but most drivers don't work and the one that doesn't give an error in Device Manager doesn't communicate with the instrument.
Cheers
Halden
Solved!
Go to Solution.Halden,
It really sounds like you have a resource conflict. That occurs when two programs or parts of programs try to use the same device or port at the same time. Your Get Device Function probably tries to open a session with each port (as you increment the index). When it hits a port which is being used by the other driver, it cannot open the session and stops working? Have you examined the errors returned by each program? The VISA drivers will return an error when the port is in use. I do not know about your program or drivers, but I would expect some kind of error. Automatic error handling in LabVIEW will not catch errors from a driver if it does not translate them to LV error clusters. So do not count on automatic error handling, if you use it, to display all possible errors.

ITunes Seem to Have Suddenly Stopped Communicating With the CD/DVD Burner
Hello, I wonder if anybody can help - my itunes application seems to have suddenly stopped communicating with my laptop's cd/dvd burner
(Generic Name (E: H - T-S D D A S - 20N ATA Device)).
About 2 years ago, I have experienced a similar problem, but was able to resolve it by downloading 64-bit compatible GEAR drivers to my system. However, the problem has re-appeared when I have updated to iTunes Version 10.1. Funny enough, the cd/dvd burner started getting recognized again when I updated to iTunes Version 10.2, but halfway through me burning a large playlist to multiple cds has suddenly stopped recognizing the cd/dvd burner again, and has never "resolved itself" ever since.
I have tried multiple approaches to solving this issue, including completely re-installing itunes software and completely re-installing GEAR drivers, but nothing works. I have even tried uninstalling GEAR drivers completely, as I read that it worked for someone on one of the similar forums, but that didn't work either.
My itunes diagnostics runs all the points of the cd/dvd drive check successfully, except for the last point (Can Not Read Audio CD). Here's what the diagnostics summary looks like:

I have noticed that the diagnostics summary containes a suggestion to update firmware of my laptop's cd/dvd drive, but currently there are no such firmware updates available.
Another frustrating issue that I ran into was trying to convey this issue to Apple Technical Support via e-mail using the Express Lane for the troubleshooting issues. I really fail to understand why I am being asked for the "hardware serial number" when I'm clearly choosing the categories for "iTunes/CD-DVD Import Issues" which are software, not hardware, categories! This prevents me from being able to simply send the description of my problem to the correct Apple Support department, and does not let me do that even when I enter my itunes' Serial Number, which can be found in the diagnostics summary provided above.
Much Thanks to anyone who can provide any kind of helpful advice, even if it's just on how to be able to convey this problem to Apple Support via e-mail!Okay ... checking something else:

Is that true? Or do you in fact have a Windows user account with full administrative rights?
(It's possible that a permission may have gone astray in your usual user account, which might be causing the burning issues.) -
Error while communicating with the server
Hi Experts,
I'm having the following issue, when I try to send data using an input schedule the server says that there was an error while communicating with the server and don't send the data, I took a look at the log file and it says the following,
==============[BPC Logging]==============
[Message Type] : ERROR
[Job Name] : OSoft.Services.Application.FileAccessService.FileAccessServiceProxy
[DateTime] : 4/6/2011 8:42:44 AM
[UserId] : CAMESAP\BPC_SYSADMIN
[Message] : UJF_EXCEPTION E018 Cannot find document/directory 0
==============[BPC Logging End ]==============
Also i went to take a look at the default script logic, because i remember that this error happened to me when i wrongly program an script logic in the default.lgf but it shows me the following error when I open it,
System.InvalidCastExeption: Specified cast is not valid
at System.data.DataColumnCollection.get_Item(String name)
at System.data.DataRow.get_Item(String columnName)
at Osoft.Consumers.Admin.AdminLogicClient50.LogicMain.GetLogic()
If I compile the file, the error stop appearing, put with all new logic files it happens at first, I think that these two errors are very deep related, if anyone can help me will be very appreciated,
Thanks in advancedHi,
I have faced the similar kind of problem in BPC NW 7.5 SP5.
The main reason is when you are trying to send any data via input schedule, you will get this web server communication issue.
1) Check if any thing you are calling script logic under default.LGF. Exclude the logic out from default and test it.
2) Process all the dimensions in application
3) Perform Lite optimization and check are there any errors.
4) Finally check BPC COM+ services and check if any service stopped and also check osoft send governer service in microsoft services.
5) Diagnoise usign server manager.
6) Try input some thing in apshell and check if u face the same web server communication error? -
ITunes 9 install problem: software for communicating with ipods not install
I downloaded and installed the update for iTunes 9 via apple software updater last night, and when I started iTunes I got the error "The software required for communicating with iPods and Mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?" I click yes, and it says it couldn't fix the problem.
I followed the instructions here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) to completely uninstall itunes and quicktime and all supporting components, including mobileme and bonjour and then reinstalled iTunes9 using the setup file downloaded from apple.com. Still no luck! I get the same error when I start iTunes.
any suggestions? Help! Should I go back to the older version of iTunes?
btw, when I uninstalled iTunes, I kept my library files and two plugins around: last.fm scrobbler and mmkeys. Does this matter? I don't think so: I tried removing the plugins and I still got the same error.
I'm running Vista 64bit, and I used the 64 bit installer.For those using Windows 7 64-bit, I also experienced this frustrating installation error. However, tonight, I was finally able to install iTunes 9 without getting the communication message by setting the compatibility tab under the properties tab of the installer to the following settings:
- check "run this program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2"
- check "run this program as an administrator"
- launch the installer by right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator"
After selecting those options and also uninstalling iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device Support, iTunes 9 finally installed without any glitches on my Windows 7 OS.
Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for Vista users except for the already posted recommendation to use the 32-bit installer.

Access to Resources via Non-admin accounts
Is there any way to provide access to resources so that they are accessible via
non-admin accounts. For e.g. to Retrieve my JMSConnectionfactory i do a
Environment env = new Environment();
env.setProviderUrl(url);
env.setSecurityPrincipal(username);
env.setSecurityCredentials(password);
Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
The username and password here is the admin account. This works fine but if i
use a non-admin account(member of Operators group), i get exceptions on Domainloghandler
runtime
Problem: I need to register a mbean that needs to access JMS Resources. Since
our deployment team doesnt want to provide us access to admin accounts, we use
a "operators" group account to register our mbeans. if i do this, i get a
Access not Allowed for subject:principals=[operator, Operators], on ResourceType:
DomainLogHandlerRuntime Action: execute Target: registerToMe.
This happens when my managed resource tries to access a JMS ConnectionFactory.
Instead if i register my mbeans using the admin account, everything is fine and
my managed resource works nice.
This is on weblogic 81 SP1 on Solaris. Please let me know if you need more details.
Any clues/hints/solutions greatly appreciated. There is not a lot of documentation
on how to access/register mbeans using non-admin accounts.
TIA
RajI have done some more debugging on this and have narrowed down the issue to the
location where my initialcontext is being obtained.
so if i register my mbean as a non-admin account and do an operation on the managed
resource which fetches initial context, i get the below exception. This is how
i get my initialcontext
weblogic.jndi.Environment env = new weblogic.jndi.Environment();
env.setProviderURL("t3://machine:8102,machine:8103");
env.setSecurityPrincipal("operator");
env.setSecurityCredentials("operator");
Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
I am doing this from a mbean thats registered on a different managed server(t3://machine:8101)...
Whats wrong with this?
TIA

There is a problem communicating with the printer.
I have a Lexmark Interpret S405. I am using a MBP laptop with WiFi, running 10.5.8. I have a cabled (non-wifi) Linsys router. I am using an Airport Express.
I was finally able to get the WiFi light on the Lexmark to be static green after reinstalling the Lexmark WiFi setup and reconfiguring my Airport settings so that both the computer and printer see each other.
In fact, I even updated the driver from Lexmark's Web site last night and I watched the WiFi light on the printer blink green indicating that the installation of the driver update was being communicated to the printer.
However, when I print, it opens the print window and says first "Looking for S300-S400", then it says "Printer is now online". Then after about 10 seconds, I get this error: "There is a problem communicating with the printer. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or hold the job and try again."
I've exhausted Lexmark's technical databases and couldn't find the answer here.
I've read that one possible solution was to delete all the printers from the "Print & Fax" system preferences window and re-add. That didn't work.
Lexmark says for: The printer communicating on a network; however, the printer is not responsive. Possible causes could be:
1. Your printer is associated with a network, router, or access point, but it is not your network.
2. A software process is blocked by a system security firewall preventing network communication.
3. You are logged into Virtual Private Network (VPN).
4. You are connected to a network but have decided to switch to a USB connection.
I don't have a VPN and have removed the USB cable, then restarted both printer and computer, and deleted printers in Sys Prefs, restarted, and still no solution.
I can print directly via USB cable, but want to print wirelessly.
Lexmark also says to enter my PIN (which I have pulled out from the print menu screen on the printer) in the System. That tells me a lot...
Network settings on the print window on the printer also tell me Signal strength is 5 (excellent) and that I am on the network my airport is on.
Message was edited by: Macman17I bet this is too late but...
Are you trying to print through the airport express wirelessly or the built in wireless of the lexmark? If you want to use the airport express, there is no need to mess with the wireless printing on the lexmark at all. The airport express will be easy to set up, all the wireless setups through the printers are a pain. -
SOLUTION to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not insta
Folks, I can not take credit for this.....you should send your checks to MarkinMadison. I've included his post in it's entirety. For me, this was the Holy Grail !!
My only comment is make sure when you are in the registry that you hit the "apply" button to change and add things.
This probably won't solve everyone's problem but it clearly solved mine (and I tried all other "solutions"), as well as Mark's.
Apple: please find out who MarkinMadison is and either cut him a big check or offer him free Ipods for life.
"Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
Here is what worked.
1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
2. Log in as an Administrator
3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
3.2 Type in "regedit".
3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
3.4.5 Click the checkbox that says: "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects."
3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
3.7 If you can't delete, you might need to open up the keys and repeat the procedure on the sub-keys.
4. Exit out of the registry editor.
5. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.
Hopefully this helps!
Apple support people: assuming this works, please add it to your solutions page, and feel free to reimburse me for spending half of Christmas figuring this out.
Mark"
Dimension 4600 Windows XPI have also posted the same question, earlier today. I purchased two for my children and cannot get the iPod to communicate with the computer. I have the iTunes software on my system, but during the installation process I cannot click the NEXT button, once I plug the iPod cable in. The computer does not detect it. I have tried all 6 USB 2.0 ports. I even removed the Dell Jukebox and MusicMatch programs. I am not a computer savvy person - just a mom who wants to give these to my children for Christmas. This is the first "chat" site I have even registered on. I am so very frustrated. Hopefully, this can be resolved.

How to det if HP printer is communicating to Airport via USB or wireless
Been using my new iMac and Airport base station for only 1 week. I have the Airport base station connected via a USB cable to an HP all in one 3300 series printer/scanner/fax. The printer has built in wireless capability. However, it is on the old 802.11g/b technology. Representative at the Apple store instructed me to hook up the printer to the base station via the USB port, instead of using a wireless network. Apple store representative mentioned that having one product on the wireless network which communicates using the old g/b format, will slow down all of the other communications on the network (internet, iMac, etc). So how do I determine if the HP printer is communicating with the network via the USB or using the built in wireless protocol??
One more issue - I am trying to get my old Windows XP based HP PC to communicate with the same printer. I installed a NetGear transmitter (with the 802n technology) on the old PC. The old PC communicates fine to surf the internet. However, printing does not work? The HP printer software is still on the old PC - did not remove it while moving the computer to a different room.
Help with either issue would be much appreciated.dpcclt wrote:

If you want to scan then you will need to use the wireless connection.

Did you connect the printer to the wireless network? It won't generally do this automatically.
Unplug the USB if you can still print then the printer is connected wirelessly.
