Communities for game or app development as3?

I am working on 2 projects at www.wudiware.com. Emma (an "easy" to use rapid data collection and processing app), and Space Out (a space shooter game with minion ships and systems/galaxies that expand as you explore). Are there any popular communities that handle both game and more serious-oriented app development? Is there some forum here at adobe? I've been working on them for a while, at least space out, but don't know what to do about getting feedback/users to try them. They use php and mysql to act like a server, and are written purely in as3. Space out has had more functional versions that were based on a development kit, which I am trying to move away from now. I'm not a business, just one person trying new things, new to me at least.
I'm much more interested in working on Emma, as I've never seen anything quite like it (I'm sure some things like it exist though?) And space out would just be yet another space game.
Any insight into the world of flash development communities would be appreciated, thanks.

Depending on where you live, a fantastic resource can be your owjn local community/user group. Search online for your area - just about every major metro area likely has 1 or 2 Flash/Flex/AS3 groups that might meet once a month.

Other options for deploying standalone apps developed in VB 2005?

I've managed to deploy an application using CR 10 as shipped with VS 2005 Professional Edition.
I embedded the reports in the app and created an *.msi file, which my users used to install the SW on their machines.
Problem is, I have some users who do not have enough privileges on their machine to install my SW.
I'd like to be able to make the SW available to them (one possibility is having them launch the SW from their machine but have the SW installed elsewhere). Or, distribute them an executable but not an installer (running the SW isn't an issue; installing it is).
Any suggestions?

You only have two options
1) the MSI as you are using it now
2) clickonce deployment.
Details on ClickOnce deployment as described in the developer help file:
ClickOnce deployment reduces the time and effort required to deploy Windows Applications across a network. Rather than distribute a separate executable to each individual hard drive, ClickOnce deployment places the executable on a common Web page, from which all users can launch it. As part of the launch process, a copy is retrieved to the user's hard drive that can be used to re-launch the application locally. However, this local copy regularly checks the source executable on the Web page for updates.
Updates to the Windows Application can be re-published to the web server, and the newer application files are then available to clients. If an older version of the Windows Application opens locally on a client machine, an update dialog box gives the option to check for updates from the web server. ClickOnce deployment is only available for Windows applications that use the .Net 2.0 Framework or later.

Recommended hardware for iPhone/iPad app development

What are the minimum system requirements for a comfortable development platform for iPhone and iPad apps? I know OSX 10.6 is required, but do I want/need a fast processor and/or lots of RAM? Would a new base-model Macbook be sufficient?

Raw off the shelf Mac mini here, just hobbyist, not pro. But it works just fine. If your looking at low cost entry level, just getting your feat wet. Or expect to be able tpo afford more later, then its just fine.

Looking for a visual app developing program

I am a graphic designer who doesn’t read or write code. I am looking to create very basic apps for Android and iOS and simply display pictures and play a MP3 that is on the device.
Can anyone suggest a solution that would assist me with this? When I am done with the app, I would need it to output to APK or whatever the extention for iOS apps is.

do yourself a favour and test your apps before buying. The Androidversion has quite some bugs, depending on the device and android version you use.
For iPad its definatly a good tool. For android, not so much. It really depends on what you want to create.

Shopping for games and apps... sorting them

Is there a way to sort the items in the shop to only view the items available for my phone? I don't have a smart phone. I have a stupid phone, so it's limited.

When logging into the Media Store from My Verizon, the site recognizes the type of phone that you have. Having said that, it may still list applications that are not compatible with your device. The site will alert you of this game or ringtone not being compatible with your device only when you attempt to check out.

Got locked out of iPhone 4 my only option was to upgrade so I got iphone 5s but when I restore from backup that's recent from iCloud I don't get my game data and app data how do I get all my data back for games and apps?

I still have old phone is there a way to bypass 4 digit code my kid created it and locked me out but it's disabled says connect to iTunes but no access to computer just wifi. I have all my data still on it there's gotta be a way to over ride it or something far situations like this cause someone said iCloud don't save everything like app info just basic app info PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP OUT???

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac. As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
Any thoughts on this?

Are you sure you need an app? Could you do this with an internal web site? You can use mobile styles and it would be indistinguishable from an app.

For my own library, it's easy enough.....select all and see what won't install. But can't search the App store by what will install....

You can try Googling. There is no way to search the App store or Appshopper.com by required iOS.

Blend for Visual Studio's HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor only usable for Windows 8 apps, NOT for web apps?

Hi there,
In the process of learning Visual Studio (VS) and ASP.NET, I initially thought that I could use Blend for VS's seemingly great HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor to visually design the HTML pages and CSS for a web app developped with VS, whether it be with ASP.NET MVC
or Django (using Python Tools for Visual Studio).
But now it dawned on me that Blend for VS seems to only be meant to design HTML/CSS for native Windows
8 apps, and not
web apps.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed the case?

PS: Maybe this a dumb newbie question, but from the outside, it seems rather counter-intuitive to offer a top-notch tool for web
standards (HTML/CSS) edition (Blend for VS), all integrated with a top-notch tool for web development (VS) but prohibiting the web developer community to leverage the productivity gains of both
the former and the integration. This is especially puzzling given that the latest components of the ASP framework (MVC, SPA projects):
- Pushes for reliance on HTML elements and CSS instead of ASP elements and Skin files;
- VS apparently also does not provide a visual design page view for ASP.MVC projects, which is sure to make many development teams wary of migrating from web forms to MVC.

I believe this the case, but I'm not familiar with asp.net development. As you point out: html is html so you can edit and copy the code. That said, the Windows Store apps forums are specifically about writing Windows Store apps. For discussion

The Tools for Universal Windows Apps requires Visual Studio 2015 RC. If you have an earlier build installed, for example, Visual Studio 2015 CTP6, you must first uninstall Visual Studio 2015 and the Tools for Windows.

To uninstall earlier versions of Visual Studio 2015 and the tools for Universal Windows app development,
Go to Control Panel, and select Programs & Features.
Select Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 and click Change.
Click Remove, and then Yes.
Next, select Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Tools for Windows 10, and click
Change.
Click Remove, and then Yes.

Can I use macbook air for ios app development?

I would like to know if i can use macbook air for ios app development or macbook pro is only option?

Just to reinforce what shldr2thewheel says - be very sure what size memory you want if you get a Macbook Air. There is *no* way to change after purchase. My advice is to go for the 4GB option - especially if you want to do app development.
The internal storage (solid state drive) of the Air can be upgraded if required but it will probably be an expensive option. If you don't think the storage will be enough then maybe using a USB connected drive to hold non-essential files is an option.
As to deciding between the Air and Pro you are basically making a decision between portability (Air) and expandability/bigger screens (Pro). What is more important to you?

How do I build an IOS newsstand App with AS3 for iPad? I will not need any updates for this app. It will be just a pdf magazine inside, same contents forever.
I cant find any tutorials/introduction on how to build this.
I get the idea on how to create normal ios App, but creating Newsstand App really confussed me.

The in-app subscription is something you're going to have to tackle. Are you selling this magazine on a subscription basis? If you are selling it, things can get tricky or possible. I'm not fluent on the latest in-app purchase integration or if there is any planned integration. A look on the ANE download page (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/native-extensions-for-air.html) doesn't show any ANE support for it. You could google around for an ANE that supports in-app subscriptions of course.
