Community Day - Bangalore '07

Hi
So what's the conclusion on Community Day for Bangalore? Cant seem to get much info 'bout it right now. You know it'd affect the amount I pay for registration, so I'm kind of stalling on registration till I know if there's going to be a community-day in Bangalore, and how it's gonna cost.
Thanks.
Yele

Hi Yele,
Yes Subhasha is right, there is criteria for the Community Day invitations.
Community Day invitations will be sent out for the Nov. 27th Community Day to all those who have over 500 points and live in India or are top contributors planning on attending SAP TechEd '07 Bangalore (Nov 28-30).
Invitations will be sent in the next week. If you do not receive one and fall into one of those two categories, please contact me.
If you don't meet the criteria this year we hope you can come next year!

  • Community Day @Bangalore : Signup Now !!!

    Abesh,
is this for every one, or who ever got the invitation from Craig.
    Can you please confirm this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Vijay

Thanks Abesh for your drive and passion.  I'm doing my little bit in contacting some of the BPXers I know in Bangalore. If you or Vijay have further names do let them know that I will be there for them and invite them.  Ann Rosenberg and Marc Dietrich will be coming too and I can promise a very valuable BPM/BPX track.

  • I got an invite for SDN community day.

    Hi all,
I have received an invite from Gali Kling Schneider to attend SDN community day at Bangalore. This would be my first ever Teched so anybody can share any information on what and how community day goes or what is community is all about..
    Regards,
    Ameya

    Hi Ameya,
Please do not feel pressure to create a session but only do so if you have a topic that you would like to share with others or would like to try to help facilitate a conversation around a subject that you think is interesting and would like to have people discuss.  You can use the wiki link and then (while logged on using your userid to SDN/BPX) edit the wiki page to add a line to the wiki table.  This can be done by using the WYSIWYG editor or going to wiki markup mode and carefully following the wiki tags already in the table. For example go to this link: <a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Community/CommunityDayBangaloreNovember27th">Community Day Bangalore</a> and take a look at the Info tag and then again at the link <a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpagesrc.action?pageId=33390">View Source</a>.  This will show you the "markup" version of the page.
A line in the table looks like this:
    8
    Twitter meets Netweaver
    SDN
    [Craig Cmehil
    profile:Craig Cmehil]
Where each set of lines || constitutes a column in the table and [] refers to an alias and a link.  In this case, Craig Cmehil becomes the text of the hyper link that points to Craig's profile in the wiki.
Craig is going to speak about Twitter in Netweaver.  People who don't even know about Twitter might find it very interesting to understand what it is and why you would want to find a way to encorporate it into the Netweaver landscape.  In Vegas and Munich there were interesting conversations (led by <a href="http://redmonk.com/jgovernor/">Red Monk</a> and the authors of the <a href="http://thegeekgap.blogspot.com/">The Geek Gap</a> about the IT/Business schism and the new business meeting the new IT.

  • No more Community Days?

I wonder whatever happened to good ol' Community Days during the TechEds. Surely not everybody can afford the time or the money to attend a three day TechEd event. But a single day of mingling with co-SCNers attending a few informative and eye-opening sessions followed by a relaxed dinner is a perfect get-away from the usual grind.
Now, I dont know if it's the financial constraints that's holding SAP back from conducting a Community Day. If yes, then there are workarounds (there's always a workaround in SAP World). I wonder how much it would cost SAP to fly-in Mark Yolton, Marilyn Pratt, Craig Cmehil, Thomas Jung and a few other luminaries from the SAP world for an extra day along with arranging a quiet not-so-flashy dinner party?
Im asking this, because its a nice feeling to meet people from your ilk, whom you otherwise know only by names and probably skills. But to actually meet them in flesh and blood is a totally different experience. Yes, you might ask why SAP Community Day for this purpose? Why not just meet informally? The bummer with that is, it's not so easy. As you can see [here|Global SCN Meet in Bangalore on 22nd AUG;.
So, am I the only one who thinks that "a" Community Day is too much to ask for from a multi-billion dollar corporation?
    pk

I feared as such. I still remember the nervous moments of Bangalore Community Day 2008. The program was almost on the verge of getting cancelled for lack of an "enthusiastic" response from the Community. I remember the "threatening" blogs from Craig about cancellation of the event if he did not get 150 registrations But we had a decent crowd in the end, I feel.
Those who were there, were really happy to be there. And those who missed out (Amit G for example ) really missed out on a opportunity to meek some SCN folks.
Last year there was an informal meet, but as it turned out there were only 6 attendees and we still had a gala time. I only wish this happens more often. Yes Otto, some of us still meet informally during weekends over a cuppa coffee or dinner. But Im just talking of a select group of people based in Bangalore. Which is why I need a Community Day to get the global crowd. I understand the difficulties in arranging one.
So may be as a workaround I guess there could be an informal meet after one of the TechEd Days for a dinner. I've read a blog by Abesh (during TechEd 2007?) where an informal dinner was hosted by him. That should serve the purpose to an extent.

  • BPC at TechEd - Community Days

I just looked through the Community Days (day 1 of TechEd)  and noted the absence of anything in the SDN track that's Outlooksoft / BPC related on day 1.  (However note there are a lot of BPC topics being offered in the Education sessions on subsequent days  which is great).
Would a BPC-related topic be appropriate for Community days?  That might be a good way to pull in the Outlooksoft/BPC (SQL) customers that don't have any other tie in to SAP apps.  Just a suggestion.

    I Agree!
SAP Should have lots of sessions around performance management.
The BPC product has a huge client base and it is getting bigger. Just watch all the new BPC clients comming onboard by the end of the year.
If only there were enough people with experienced in BPC.:(
I have been seeing a rush of consultants claiming to know the BPC product but all they realy know is what they read on a slid presentation that a friend of a freind gave them when someones friend took an intro class to BPC. (Yeah! only hot air, not skill or experience.)

  • More Community Days

I really enjoyed the Community Day at Tech Ed Munich, and I think we should have more of them, and not just aligned with Tech Ed. Perhaps we could have 3- or 6-monthly Community Days more widely spread around the world?
I would really like to do a day, perhaps in April (6 months after Tech Ed) in the UK. What do others think?  Anyone here from SAP UK who might be prepared to let us use some rooms?  I'm happy to help with the organisation, and of course we can use the Wiki here to help organise the "unconference" sessions and to write up session notes afterwards.
Any takers for the idea, and for April in London?
    Cheers,
    Darren
    <a href="http://www.fortybeans.com/">My blog</a>

Sounds great Darren. I think there is a lot of upside for this. I am not sure that I could help out (to organise) but would be a willing participant.
Clockhouse is not the easiest to get to though. Maybe a big SI in the city or other not so big SI's could smell a community sponsorship deal to lend a boardroom or training room or something.

  • Your plans for Community Day and TechEd?

Last year when I attended the Community Day and TechEd it was great to meet a lot of people who I knew very well, but only through their posts on the forums: Pizzaman, Ajay Das, AHP, Buddhi Kalakheti (haven't seen him on the BI forum for a long time now), Rich Heilman and many others.
Since TechEd is coming up in October I thought it would be nice to know who all are planning to attend, so we can meet face to face

"sent out emails with the entry code for the 'free' spaces...I think if you earned
1000 points since the last contest. "
I think I earned more than 1k during the period (BTW the top controbutors list has some silly Bex formula I think I see 3700 odd points for the contest duration (06-07) and vaguely remember having 3.5K or so points at that point last year. Which should have me now at 7k plus instead of 5Kplus that I am at. But then again, I might be remembering it all wrong).
Anyway, I never got any invitation or code so not really sure how that worked. Have sent a mail to the mail-id to see if I can still get registered. If I do not hear, I will start making noise in coffee-corner as planned.
I was thinking I could hold a session on job scenario, fake resumes, interview questions and so on - with a perspective on what it is like on the grounds in India. More of a discussion than anything else - so people become aware of the reality of the 'freshers' who everyone on SDN seems a little wary of.... But it seems sessions are overbooked, and then again who wants to hear the things that are played over and over on forums and other such places....
Hope to see more of SDNers if I do get to be there

  • O'Reilly Community Day keynote video available?

I heard a rumor that the full length video of Tim O'Reilly's Community Day keynote address is posted somewhere, but I can't find it.  Will someone please point me toward it?

  • No Community Day in Vienna - nevertheless meet on monday

    Dear all,
I am very disappointed when I noticed there is no community day in vienna this year.
From my point of view, the communitiy day was the decisive event traveling to TechEd. As I booked my flight very early I am in Vienna starting Sunday evening. So I thought maybe there are more of you who expected a community day and arrive earlier in Vienna - so what about meeting Monday afternoon for an exchange of experiences and maybe a little evening event (dinner and bar)?
    Anybody interested?
Please contact me or update the thread.
    Best regards
    Roman

Take a look at the cluetrain thread.  Some of the "action" will actually take place created by the community on route to the event on Monday and I bet you could meet up with us as we step off the train..
I bet too you could find others who are arriving early.  Try looking in Twitter for updates of community folks that are coming on Sunday night.  We'll be glad to meet you when we step off the train.  Details [here|Re: SAP Cluetrain 2009, happening?]

  • Community day - 250 points?

    Hi ,
I would like to know about the points milestones in SDN. I read in SDN that on crossing the 250 points milestone, one would be invited to Community day .Is this still valid ? If so, I would like to know whether it is on crossing of 250 total annual points, or 250 Forum points . Also, is there any period validity for the same, like , one should complete 250 points before April or any such conditions. Any other clauses?
I know I am long way to go for this, but I would want to know this so that I would atleast aim for it.
    Thanks,
    Maansi

    Maansi
I know that you get an invitation for SAP SDN Community Profile, which I wonder why I haven't got yet
There is nothign as community day.
And yes, you are right, the mark is 250 points as mentioned by SDN.
Also, the calculation of 250 points annually is required for you to be an Active Contributor on SDN. (Calendar Year)

  • Community Day - only ! @Vegas

I know it might be late for it, still.
I would like to register for community day, only (no TechEd for me). I sent an email to the the mail-id mentioned in the wiki page (andre at ...) but haven't heard back.
I 'think' I had more than 1k points during the relevant period but didn't get any mail offering me free entry to the community day - not sure how that worked.
In any case if there is someone in the know of the situation -
    - Is the registration still open?
    - How to go about it? I can shell 250USD, but would be silly doing so if I am entitled to a free entry.
I hope I do not have to gate-crash!
BTW It looks little strange there if you are only for community day and your name is not Bruce Sterling (feels like the stingy uncle who wouldn't pay for TechEd - while almost everyone else is there for the whole deal) - I know,  I was there last year.
Plan B is to write longwinding cribbing posts here provoking Marilyn and Craig and everyone else and getting their Passes for the event in return for just shutting up. Much as I like that to be Plan A - in deference to the suffering folks here I desist, at least for now....

    Hi Ajay,
Thanks for asking. We realized that the email address is wrong. The right one is:
    <b>[email protected]</b> for Las Vegas<b>
    [email protected]</b> for Munich
Andrea has been informed and will get in contact with you. Sorry for the confusion.
Looking forward to see you at the Community Day, Mark.

  • Community day in Vienna 2009

Will there be a community day in Vienna this year?
    matt

    Hi Matt,
well there was a discussion in the mentor forum about that too and Craig answered it as:
There will be something like the community day, but it is not yet decided what exactly and how it will look like.
I think we just need to wait until we get an official announcement.
    regards
    Siggi

  • Community day - Berlin

I'm planning to be there - anyone else?
    matt

    Hi
    you guys confused me
if people in the top contributor list will get discount if so how ?
i am confused because of the following reason
    1) i live in germany, initially i thought of attending conference in berlin then i happen to see it is cost around 2240 euro so i am planning to attend the tech ed in bangalore which will cost me around 250 euro.
Craig could you please confirm in this thread about this discount stuff so i can make out a clear decision and most importantly i can schedule  ahead if i am attending the conference in banagalore
    thanks
    Regards,
    Vijay.

  • Need more Info on TechEd 2010 @ Bangalore

    My Greetings Fellow SCN mates,
Feeling great to on SCN after quite a long gap, was really missing this platform:)
To start with, could you please help me with some info on TechEd 2010 going to be held at Bangalore:
    1. Is SDN Day/Community day called off/replaced this year with Inside Track or will have something else as well?
While searching for Community Day found a wiki of Somnath and read about  [SAP Inside Track 2010 Bangalore|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/events/SAPInsideTrack2010Bangalore]. Seems we have no more Community Day and is relplaced by Inside Track.
    2. Are we going to have hackers night or we have any other program scheduled for TechEd apart from the agenda shared @ [Agenda at a Glance|http://www.sapteched.com/india/activities/home.htm]
    3. I could also see Innovation Weekend at other TechEd, do we have something similar @ Bangalore?
