Community help search field ignores help files by default.

I tried to search for "Blending mode", then "Option Bar" in the main support page, with Community help targeted, and I don't get any hot from the help files. http://community.adobe.com/help/search.html?q=option+bar&lbl=photoshop_product_adobelr&hl= en_US&self=0&area=0
Must we now search from the help pages directly?
Edit: I see that the results from "Community Help" is checked, but, one MUST select also " Only Adobe Content" AND "Adobe Refernence Only" to have the ACH results on top... creating this search string: http://community.adobe.com/help/search.html?hl=en_US&q=option+bar&l=photoshop_product_adob elr&area=0&self=1&meta=site%3Dphotoshop_cs5_all
I do not remember having to click on three options to get ACH content...

Should be fixed now. Let me know if you still see the problem.
And big thanks for reporting it!

  • Updating Adobe Community Help files fails every time after starting

    Hello,
I e.g. go to «Support Center for Photoshop» from the menu within the app. Adobe Community Help starts up and tells me theres new content, do I want to download that. It seems to start the dl just fine, then reports an error «16882» (if I'm remembering it right).
Why? We have very fast very broadband internet connection and I use a 2011 27" iMac with max Gig RAM installed.
Any hints there would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Seems Adobe Air or Cummunity help has gone cprrupt. Lets follow the below suggestions:
Step 1: Uninstall adobe air from Utilities and re-install the latest adobe AIR from "http://get.adobe.com/air/otherversions/"
Step 2: Follow "http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/842/cpsid_84215.html" and re-install the Community Help Air application.
Step 3: Restart the machine and launch adobe Community Help and try to install all the updates and check if it works fine.
    Hope that Helps!.

  • Adobe Community Help

Frequently when I search a term in Flash Builder and it fires up Adobe Help locally (which is fine with me), I'm greeted with the following message inside the AIR app
    Access denied
We're sorry, you are not allowed access to the service you requested.
If you feel you should have access, please contact the appropriate authorities and give them your IP address: 72.200.120.xxx
    Thank you for your patience.
Any suggestions? At first I thought it was server overload but it's been a few days now. (It has a full IP, just don't like broadcasting it).

    Hi,
We had a similar problem. From other posts: when FB4 installs it may not update the community help file. The current version is 3.1.0.440. I downloaded this manually from the Labs page and selected "open" as instructed.
Got help form the Flex Doc Team.
If I open the community help AIR app directly, I have to select Flex from the drop down next to the search field:
But when I now go to help from within FB4 it opens OK (without the warning) directly into the Flex content.
So check the version of community help that you have and possibly upgrade.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Search Function does not work in Community Help

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.
I use the Adobe Master Suite and have enjoyed the Community Help Application/Client.  I could do online searches for information with no issues.   In checking were I stood as far as offline documenation, I decided to download all of the Suite Documentation through the CHC Perferences through the Updater Settings and doing a manual download.  I believe (though not positive) is when my problems began.
First, I have a MacBook Pro runing OSX 10.6.8 with FireFox Browser 9.01 (not sure the browser information is needed).  Adobe Community Help Version is 3.5.0.23 and the Adobe AIR application is version 3.1
At this point I am able to view the online help files in the main viewing screen.  However, when I try and do a search, nothing shows up excpet a little dynamic clock icon showing that it is working and eventually it comes back with a dialog that says:  "An unexpected error has occured.  Please try your search again."
Here is the screen shot before the search:
And here is the image after trying a search:
After several attempts to fix this myself, I am not asking help on the forum.  The last attemp I made was to
    - Uninstall AIR using the uninstall app under Applicaitons/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller.app
    - Deleted the folder   "user"/Library/Preferences/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
    - Running the AIR installer (I downloaded the most recent version): Adobe AIR Installer.app
    - And then running the Adobe CHC help application directly: Adobe Help.app
If I set preferences to open up in a Browser, that works just fine yet would prefer to use the CHC interface.
Thanks in advance for any help including pointers on how to dig myself out of this hole I seem to be in.
    John
ADDED EDIT: When I click the OK button on the error dialog, the main view window again shows the Adobe help information as in the first image.

There is a thread on the topic on the Photoshop forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4124703#4124703
    Strange, it works in CS4
But you guys are able to go to http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/index.html right?
It might be useful to know that you can set Community Help Sites as a search engine in your browser (it should offer you to register itself as a search engine, while Safari users have to add Glims to add additional search engines.) http://blogs.adobe.com/communityhelp/2009/01/opensearch_plugins_available_f.html

after uninstalling PSE 10 I installed PSE 12 & Premiere Elements 12 on my notebook (WIN 8.1)
for offline use the Adobe Community Help offers only the contents for PSE 10 and Premiere Elements 10 (was never installed!!)
as dowloadable files, the new insttalled 12 versions seem to be ignored.
Is it poosible to update the community help software or should I  try to un- and reinstall it?

(sorry if my question was unclear, english is not my native language)
my problem is NOT downloading or opening any pdfs,
Then using the help function in pse without permanent  internet connection, it is possible to choose usage of  "only local contents" in the pre-settings for help. When the computer is online, the selected contents will be downloaded and updated automaticly by the community help tool.
It works, but the problem is that the adobe community help tool  only offers the WRONG contents (old pse version).  So I think about reinstalling the help-tool

  • Adobe Community Help Search - Unexpected Error?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements version 9.0.3, Win7 64bit
When I launch Photoshop Elements Help and arrive at Adobe Community Help and then enter any word in the Search box (upper left), there is no response for  several minutes, then this appears:
(An unexpected error has occurred.  Please try your search again.)
Can anyone suggest the cause, and perhaps a solution?

The cause is that the help files aren't in that location anymore. The workaround would be to download the pdf files, which you can find here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/992825?tstart=0
and use those instead of the in-program links.

  • HELP search field acting screwy

When I type something into the Search field in the HELP window in the FInder and I hit RETURN key, the whole HELP window just goes by by. What's up with this? More HELP corruption... again???? There is apparently a lot of corruption that goes on with Apple's HELP viewer. When oh when will HELP be fixed!

You may not realize it but the folks at the Genius Bar have to go through a few weeks of rigorous training ...
That is far from what it takes to qualify them to say if what they encounter helping users is due to a bug in the OS or from other causes. They are not trained to be engineers, they are trained to be customer support technicians. On the job, they are expected to solve customer problems expeditiously, not to spend hours studying code & log outputs on a case by case basis, looking for underlying common causes.
They are susceptible to the same form of myopia as others in similar positions or readers of these forums: because a disproportionally large number of the units they see have problems, they may begin to refer to the product as "buggy" in an ill-defined way, making little or no distinction between causes & effects, especially in programming errors vs. other causes. Some even go as far as using the term to refer to things that work as designed that they think should work differently.
This is not very helpful: it too often leads to users not looking for causes that they could eliminate themselves because they expect Apple to supply a "bug fix" for something that isn't an error in the programming it supplies.
You say you have fixed your problem. It seems to me that you have most likely treated a symptom without discovering or eliminating its cause. I do not believe it is typical for help viewer files to become corrupted -- mine & those of my friends & associates certainly have not -- so it seems unlikely that the cause is a genuine bug in the OS itself, which I would expect to affect hundreds of thousands if not millions of users. Sure, some won't use help or report any problems they have with it, but even considering that the numbers just don't add up.
It is true that this is based on assumptions I have made but I will stand by it, in large part because I'm aware that file corruption has many causes, some user or environmentally induced, some not. I don't completely rule out an obscure bug in the OS affecting select users, but it is not high on my list of probable suspects.
In any event, I hope your problem is solved & will not recur, whatever its cause.

  • Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when connected to a Visual C++ application

Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when
connected to a Visual C++ application
I use the RH_ShowHelp API command to connect a HTML Help file
(.chm file generated by RoboHelp Word X 5) to my Visual C++
application. My application is able to call up this HTML help file
in context-sensitive mode and everything is working great in the
Contents and Index panels EXCEPT when I click on List Topics (after
I enter a KEYWORD for search) in the Search panel.
I got an error that said “Unhandled exception in
    xxxx.exe.(HHCTRL.OCX):0xC00000FD: Stack overflow”
I am able to execute this .chm file by itself and the search
function works well in this case. I am using HHActiveX.dll that is
created on 2/23/04. Is this the correct version?? Any advice what
    to do here??

Hi agschin and welcome to the RH forums. The hhactivex.dll
file is not used by the search function so you can rule that our.
Have you tried recompiling and seeing if the problem still happens?
You can also start the Bug Hunter feature in RH - View > Output
View and then select the Bug Hunter button - and see if that throws
    up any clues.

  • Adobe Help CS5: Text In Search Field Hard To Read

I'm using Local Help. In the Search field, letters are way too close and very hard to read. There seems to be no anti-aliasing either. Is it possible that some font be missing in either my Photoshop Installation or in my System (OX 10.6.3)?
    Thanks for any help.

    Mark Nichoson wrote:
Hi Roger:  I apologize for the poor text rendering.  We are updating the app with a fix -- this should be resolved when the engineering team migrates the app to Flex 4/AIR 2 (coming soon!).
    Hello Mark!
If I may, the fact that people like you take the time to answer questions like this does more for Adobe's reputation than anything else. Thank you. I will be waiting for this fix. After all this new Help app is way better than what we had before, as it allows us to use either Local help (way faster and practical) or the web (more complete, when we're stuck). So this is a step forward, I just found strange that Adobe had this problem in that field. I imagine that this bug sneaked by unnoticed...
So thank you once again. If I had a suggestion, it would be to make the process of finding and downloading Local help a bit easier and more transparent.

  • Implementation of F4 value help for a search field which is an EEWB field

    Hi...
I am trying to create a F4 value help for a search field which is an eewb field. The f4 value help jus need to be a pop up containing the values of the field existing in the system.Since this is a search field the GET_V method cannot be used. I tried implementing it by creating a search help and then using it in the GET_DQUERY_VALUEHELPS method. But the problem when u use the search help is that all the values including the null values and duplicate entries will be populated when f4 is clicked. Is there any way to filter the values that get populated when f4 is clicked? If any other method can be used to implement the functionality please let me know..Thanks in advance....

    Hi,
the GET_V methods worked for me most of the time. Even in advanced searchs. Only time they do not is if there is a different aproach considered in the GET_DQUERY_VALUEHELPS.
As the GET_V_ you created obviously was called I suppose you found the correct place to Populate it to be used in the search.
I do not know what the problem with the NULL values and duplicate entries is you talked about, but it sounds to me the creation of your valuehelp class is flawed. Not the integration into the UI.
Maybe have a look at SAPs' standard implementations of Search Components. You should get a feeling for how search helps work. See. BT111S_OPPT, BP_HEAD_SEARCH

  • Searches in generated Help Files

    Hi,
I create help files for multiple customers from the same project. I have multiple table of contents with lots of topics that need to be customized for different customers. After I generate the help files I do a search as a test. The problem is that the Robohelp search result includes topics that I did not include in the table of contents.
    thanks for your help

    Hi Eileen
I'm hoping that you and all others that find this to be a problem will take a moment and file a bug with Adobe on it. I filed one for the Exclude from Search not working for CHM files, but got a note back stating something along the lines of "it's a limitation with the CHM format". Personally, I believe they can make it happen if they want to. After all, we can make it happen ourselves if we really want to put forth the effort. So the application needs to assist us by making it easier.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Working on a script to search for and move files - need Guru help!

Hi, I'm trying to help my dad with a task and my outdated Applescript knowledge isn't helping me much.
Here's what I need to do in a nutshell:
FolderA contains a bunch of JPG files.
FolderB is the root of a hierarchy of folders containing DNG files.
Each file of FolderA has a mating file (same name but with .DNG) somewhere in the hierarchy of FolderB.
The goal is to move each JPG file from Folder A to the folder containing it's mate.
    So, the basic flow is:
    1. Get list of files in folderA
    2. Looping through list, strip out file name (fileA) and find the DNG file somewhere inside FolderB
    3. Get the path of the folder containing the matching DNG file
    4. Copy/move FileA to the folder.
    5. Loop back to #2
OK, so here's where I am:
    tell application "Finder"
    set JPEGfolder to "Macintosh HD:DadTest1:DadA"
    set DNGfolder to "Macintosh HD:DadTest1:DadB"
set a_list to every file in Afolder
repeat with i from 1 to number of items in a_list
-- Everything happens within this loop
    set a_file to (item i of a_list)
set fileInfo to info for a_file
set theName to displayed name of fileInfo as string
-- now theName contains the actual file name minus the extension
At this point I don't know how to search for the mating file using Applescript. If I was in UNIX I could do a "find . -name filename" and parse out the path, but I don't know how this works in Applescript.
I think I can figure out how to move the file once I have the path, but the search routine has me stumped for now.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

In my opinion your best bet is to take a 180° turn and simplify things significantly.
Your current approach involves multiple file searches - for each file in the JPEG folder, search all the DNG folders looking for a match. That's an large number of searches, and a large number of something that AppleScript isn't great at.
Instead you'd be far better off walking once through the DNG folders. For each DNG file look for a matching JPG file in the one folder that contains JPEGs. This would be exponentially faster - one walk through the filesystem vs. one walk through the filesystem for every JPEG.
This should give you an idea of what I'm talking about (untested):
    global JPEGfolder
    on run
set JPEGfolder to alias "Macintosh HD:DadTest1:DadA"
set DNGfolder to alias "Macintosh HD:DadTest1:DadB"
      processAFolder(DNGfolder)
    end run
    on processAFolder(theFolder)
      tell application "Finder"
repeat with eachItem in folder theFolder
if class of eachItem is file and name extension of eachItem is "dng" then
set basename to characters 1 through -5 of (get name of eachItem)
            try
move file (basename & ".jpg") of folder JPEGfolder to folder theFolder
            end try
else if class of eachItem is folder then
            my processAFolder(eachItem)
          end if
        end repeat
      end tell
    end processAFolder
The idea here is that you start off in the top folder and iterate through each item. If the item is a file and it's name extension is DNG then try to move a corresponding file from the JPEG folder to the current folder. This is wrapped in a try block so the script doesn't fail if there is no corresponding JPG.
If the current item is a folder then the script descends into that folder by calling itself.

I have to update an old project that uses WinHelp, so I installed RH X5 on an old XP machine. The original help file always opened in a 2-pane window with the ToC on the left and the default topic on the right. My "updated" help file only opens the ToC/Index/Search screen in a single pane. Mark -
I believe a merged WebHelp or .chm help system is what
you're looking for - when you merge projects, a full-text search
across help files is automatically included, provided you include
the Search tabs or buttons when generating.
