  • Authoring and Publishing site collection in SharePoint Online

    Hi ,
Can we have multiple authoring and publishing site collection in SharePoint Online?
Thanks, Kaviya (Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you)

Yes you can use SharePoint 2013 cross-site publishing feature in SharePoint Online to support 1:1 and 1:n set up of authoring : publishing site-collections in SharePoint Online. The catch is that it all needs to be within same tenant.

  • Move subsite to another Site Collection

    Hi,
I'm trying to move a subsite from one site collection to another using the PowerShell cmdlets export-spweb and import-spweb (with the includeusersecurity switch).
This works to an extent, but is missing several important customisations (security groups, custom forms, workflows, site theme).
Is this the best way to move a subsite to an existing Site Collection?
    Many Thanks,
    Iain

Many of the items you mention are set at the Site Collection level for all the sites in the site collection.  Trying to move a sub site from one Site Collection to another is not going to be able to move everything.

  • MySite as a Publishing Site Collection (for Cross Site Publishing)

    Hello,
is it possible to connect the MySite in SharePoint with an Product Catalog? I have an Authoring Site Collection and a MySite Collection. In the MySite i have allready activated the Publishing Feature and then connected my Catalog from the Authoring Site.
After that i've made a Navigation from the Term Store Management Tool.
The Problem is, that i cant see any changes an no Navigation at the MySite.
Is it somehow possible to get it working?
    Thanks

    Hi Arnold,
As MySite use My Site Host site template in SharePoint, so the master page is different and MySite use custom master page for rendering the navigation.
If you want to use Managed Navigation for MySite, then you need to create a custom master page for rendering the terms in navigation.

  • PowerShell Command to export a list of subsites from a site collection

Is there a Powershell command to export a list of sub sites from a site collection into a .csv file?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that export subsites to excel via PowerShell.
There is an article about this topic, it will enumerate all the sub-sites and print them in a .csv file, you can refer to them.

  • Granting access to SharePoint Designer on a SubSite but not the Site Collection

Is it safe in SharePoint 2010 to give a user the ability to use SharePoint Designer on a SubSite of a Site Collection and not give them permission, other than Visitor access, to the root Site Collection (Parent Site collection)?
Most importantly, I want to make sure the only damage a user can do is to their own subsite, and not do anything that will impact the Site Collection.
I created a test user and granted it FULL access on a test subsite and only view on the parent site collection and was able to use designer logged in as the test user.  I was able to modify the subsite pages and create workflow.  I was not expecting
this to work based on the following statement in KB article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592376
Overall, an user needs to be a member of one of the following groups at the site collection
level to be able to use SharePoint Designer and modify SharePoint content:
    - Site Collection Administrators
    - Designers
    - Owners
Does anyone have any advice on this?
    Thanks!

I think I just found out why in SharePoint 2010 I'm able to give a user "Designer" permissions on a subsite and "Read"  only permission on the parent Site Collection root site and they can still use SharePoint Designer with
no permission issues in the subsite.
    http://suehernandez.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/sharepoint-designer-2010-you-do-not-have-permission-to-do-this-operation/
From the Article: "Turns out the reason for these varying behaviors is this:  In 2007, new sites would automatically inherit their
master pages from their parents.  If you made no changes to that, it inherited right up to the top.  So it’s looking at the master page from the top, in those circumstances.  And as we’ve seen here, if you don’t have Design permissions to it,
    it doesn’t work.
In the case of a new 2010 site (just a regular Team Site), the new 2010 behavior is to use the Master Page in the gallery it has in its own site.  And since the user is an Administrator (Full Control) of that
site, then no problem getting to the Master Page!"
Does anyone have any experience with this?

  • Unable to access my site collection after publishing "MS Word SharepointWiki Plugin" to it

I am working on an publishing site collection of type "EnterpriseWiki" . and to be able to convert MS word documents to wiki pages i downloaded the "MS Word SharepointWiki Plugin" from https://sharepointwikiplugin.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest.
then i open the downlaoded file using Visual Studio, then i right click on the solution inside the visual studio, and i chose publish. then i specify the URL for my site collection. and the publish process worked well. but when i tried to access the site collection
i got the following error :-
    Http 403 Forbidden.
so can anyone advice on this problem please ?

Since there are no actual published releases of the code I suspect its still a work in progress.  I suspect you'll need to take a look at the actual code to figure out why it doesn't work.

  • Publishing site with Workflow not working properly

    Hello All
I have created a Publishing Site Collection on SharePoint 2013 on-premises and when I create a new sub-site using the "Publishing site with Workflow" template, I get redirected to
the site home page and I get the option to PUBLISH the page. But, when I try to publish the page, I get a server error. Now, instead of trying to publish the page, if I refresh the page I this time get an option to check-in the page, after checking the page
in, i get the option to publish it, now I can publish the page without any error. This does not happen on my DEV server, but only on QA. I am using the "Publishing site with Workflow" template,
which associates an OOB Page Approval workflow with the Pages Library.
    Please help me guys!

    Hi Parth,
Based on your description, you encountered the issue with Publishing site with worklfow site template.
Please provide more detail information about error returned, and see if there is related error message in ULS log.
Could you please recreate a new site on DEV server to see if the issue still occurs?
I wonder if there is difference on Workflow related settings between DEV server and QA server.

  • Publishing Site Template Missing - MOSS 2007

    Hi All,
I can't see the "Publishing Site" template in the list while creating a site/site collection. The publishing feature is activated in both site collection level and site level. I can see only "Publishing Site with Workflow" and "News
    site" under "Publishing" tab.
I have checked in "Page Layouts and Site Templates" settings page and there also "Publishing Site" template is not listed.
    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Hello Puli,
Check from site settings page. go to Site Settings –> ‘Page layouts and site templates’ under ‘Look and Feel’ section.  On the ‘Page Layout and Site Template Settings’ page, you can specify which site templates will be available for creating subsites
    in this site collection.
    Hope it could help

  • Moving a site collection to be a sub site of the same site collection

Currently I have a publishing site collection of type enterprise wiki, that stores wikis for our HR department. And I added all the current wiki pages to it. But in the future we might need to create another sites for different departments suh as; finance,
    technical, etc.
So I might need to have the departments represented as subsites of the same site collection.and in this situation I will need to move the current HR site collection to be a sub site of the current site collection. I know that I can move a site collection
to be a sub site by doing:-
    Export the Site Collection
    Create the New Subsite
    Import the Exported Site Collection
    Delete the Old Site Collection
But I have the following questions:-
Is it possible to move a site collection to be a sub site of the same site collection in SP2013, baring in mind that i am using a publishing site. and on this link it is mentioned that it is not possible in SP2010 http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/archive/2009/05/27/limitations-of-stsadm-o-export-import-related-to-publishing-sites.aspx?
Can I continue with my current approach of having my HR wiki inside the site collection (not as a sub site). And in the future if I need to have the departments as sub sites , I can move the current site collection to be a sub site ?
Currently I have created new page layouts for the current site collection, so will moving my site collection to be a sub site moves the page layouts using the export/import approach ?
What are the things I will lose when I move a site collection to be a subsite , in respect to data, page layouts, web parts, etc.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards

It is not possible to export the site collection to a sub site irrespective of what  type of site template you are using. You can only export a sub site and import it to a sub site not site collection to a sub site. If you import a publishing site,
the pages do not have the correct link to the page layout. The the page is hard-coded to the page layout from the original site. You can use the powershell specified in the below link to fix them

    Hi,
I have site-collection in sharepoint2010 i.e. http://test.com/ and i have subsites under it that looks like this http://test.com/HR,http://test.com/payroll etc..
root site in site-collection i.e. http://test.com/ has to be imported from other SharePoint farm but the subsite under it should not changes i mean the HR and Payroll
let me know how to import a root site from prod farm with out affecting the subsites or breaking the subsites..
if this is possible, please let me know the import and export commands without affecting the subsites
    Thanks,

If you want to restore it root level in target farm then the Subsite under the site collection will not change.
    you use Backup-SpSite
Backup-SPSite http://test.com -Path C:\Backup\site_name.bakand then in the target farm use Restore-SpsiteRestore-SPSite http://test.com -Path C:\Backup\site_name.bak -Forcechange the path accordingly.

  • Aggregate list data from multiple subsites to parent site

I am working on implementing a project management site. I simply have a site collection with multiple subsites (each subsite is a unique project) that all have the same list named "Project Status" which includes project health and comments.
I want to rollup only the most recently added item from the Project Status list from each subsite into the site collection parent site main page.
    For example:
    Project Portfolio Status
    Project 1 - Green - <comments>
    Project 2 - Yellow - <comments>
    Project 3 - Red - <comments>
Can this be done using OOB tools? I know Bamboo Solutions has a product that does something like this, but it's $1000.

You can use Content Search Web Part in SharePoint 2013. There are many ways you can use CSWP and its query filters, you can view them here.
A query such as below -
    path:"https://YourSiteCollection/SubSite*" ListID:xxxxxx-9511-4746-xxxx-E12BC81ECCA9 ListID:5xxxxC1B4-EE4D-4xxxx-BC5B-032EB7D03E09 ListID:xxxxE18-xxxx-4C3C-xxxx-AC14EFBB2A12 -Filename:AllItems.aspx
will give the result that will look like the image below.
Srini Sistla Twitter: @srinisistla Blog: http://blog.srinisistla.com
Thank you. I have been working on my query and have some good results but I need to add some more parameters to my query in order to block/filter the following two items that show up in the results:
    Item 1 - .../Add Status Report.aspx
    Item 2 - .../AllItems.aspx
*Note: I also need to block/filter all items in the list EXCEPT for the 1 most recent item
    My current query is:
    path:"<subsite url>" ListID:<list id> -Filename:<view name>.aspx
Where can I find/read about other parameters that I can use to block out the other items? Thanks!

  • Definition of Status property of a SharePoint Site Collection

    Hi community,
when getting a site collection via a PowerShell command (Get-SPOSite / Get-SPSite), it returns a property called "Status" among others, which in my case is always "Active". But for what is it good for? I didn't find any definition of this
property, neither via search nor via MSDN.
What values could this property have and how does a different status than "Active" influence the behavior of this site collection (is it still accessible, ...)?
Many thanks in advance and best regards
    Christian

    Hi Steven,
thank you for this quick reply. Sorry for providing only a few information on that.
I'm currently working with SharePoint 2013 Online (Office 365). The PowerShell cmdlet Get-SPOSite return a few properties of a site collection, e.g. Status, LockState, Url, Title, etc.
$allSiteInformation = Get-SPOSite -Limit all -Detailed | Select Url, Title, Status, Template, LockState, Owner, LastContentModifiedDate, WebsCount, StorageQuota, StorageUsageCurrent, ResourceQuota, ResourceUsageCurrent, ResourceUsageAverage
I know the purport of LockState, but I can't imagine what additional information will be the "Status" property returned by this script, in my case it alway states "Active". I assume that there is also a value "Inactive", but I don't know how respectively
for what reason a site collection will transition into that status.
I placed this common question because I thought that this property exists also in SharePoint 2013 On-Premise, but I don't know.
I hope now it is a little bit clearer. Thanks and best regards
    Christian
