  • Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could add my existing, licensed apps to the list of app 'Purchases' that I have on the Mac App Store.
The reason for this is that I recently suffered the inevitable hard disk failure and I had to rebuild my MacBook Pro from scratch (with the help of Time Machine and Migration Assistant, etc.). As usual, I hadn't really maintained my MBP for quite a while and things sort of got away from me, in terms of data, apps, preferences, permissions, users (my personal account, my wife's account, my old work account...), etc.
So I wanted to rebuild my MBP on a clean slate. I like having the ability to quickly download and install just the right apps that I "really" need from MAS safe in the knowledge that:
they are there (assuming they're still available through MAS) with a full description of what they do and when I bought them, etc.
they are going to be in the most up-to-date version,
I'll be able to download and install them cleanly with no corruption from years of multiple user preference changes and permissions, etc.
that they will be managed and maintained (updated) through the same mechanism,
    so much more.
The benefits of having apps from MAS are easy to see when compared to going through my downloads folder and emails looking for the latest installers, working out what they're for in the first place, finding the license key in some forgotten e-mail, etc.
I am aware that I can build a clean machine and then restore just the right apps in their most up-to-date version as I had them on my backups.  The one thing to say about that is that the apps may have been used and abused once too many times and their preferences, etc. may not be in the most desirable form. It's just not as elegant as the MAS solution.
I realise that not all apps, app versions, or app vendors, are available through MAS. But I still have a fair few apps currently available on MAS that were bought prior to the existence of MAS, prior to them becoming available on MAS, or were bought directly for some other reason (by mistake).
So I wondered if there was any way I could convert my legitimate licenses from simply a direct purchase to one through MAS and have those apps listed under my 'Purchases' list. It would reduce the amount of work I'd have to do, not only to rebuild my machine but also to maintain it.
I cannot find any reference or way of having this work the way I would like it to. But I was hoping that some Apple guru would enlighten me.
I have thought about the possible mechanisms something like this would need to work and I must admit I see some not insurmountable issues (not as much technical as legal or possibly logistical). I realise that MAS is a service in its own right and as such has its own Terms, Conditions and Licensing that may not be compatible with the licenses that I already have. I also realise that when I purchase an app from MAS that I'm paying for the entire service including updates and use on multiple machines that I may own, etc. Obviously I do not want to pay the full purchase cost again for the same app twice, but I am willing to pay a small conversion/upgrade fee to have it managed as part of my 'Purchases' on MAS.  Think of it in the same terms as iTunes works.  I can purchase music, etc. but I can also add my own CD collection and have it managed by iTunes and store it in the cloud should anything go wrong with my local machine, etc.
So if this is currently not possible, then for the Apple MAS product managers out there, consider this as a suggestion/feedback.  I'd be happy to discuss my thoughts in more detail about not only how to achieve this for now but also for the future when you may add existing applications to MAS that people may have previously bought direct and would like to have managed through MAS going forward. The benefits to the users are hopefully clear, but from Apple's perspective I hope that you can see the advantages too, commercially, etc.
PS: I apologise for the wordiness of my query and overuse of 'etc.', etc.

Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?
No. Only apps purchased from the App Store can be re downloaded for free including updates.

  • How do I remove an app from download list in app store.

I made the mistake of signing up for the new photos app for the mac, not realizing I would have to also install the beta for the Yosemite update.  I think I better not do this but I have the app siting in my app store updates list.  Can I remove the app without downloading it?  Or should I download it and then just trash it?  I was willing to deal with a potentially unstable photo app but do not want to have an unstable OS.  (Maybe you can tell I am not the most experienced user here).

thank you for your replies.  yes I do use time machine!  My problem is that i recently installed parallels and run some windows financial programs and don't want to risk impairing the virtual machine functions.  i guess I need to go over to the parallels people and ask them--.  Sounds like the worst that could happen is I would learn how to re-install using time machine.

Is there a way to remove an app from the list of previously installed app?
The list that comes up when you click on the Purchased icon when updating apps.
The list is becoming quite large after I installed and tried out a few apps.

    nvm. I found it.

Is there a way to view apps as a list instead of icons?

Doesn't anyone else have this desire?
It seems most people are used to seeing lists on all desktop computers. I almost never see anyone viewing files as icons when doing serious work. I'm stumped as to why this would not be an option for the iphone.
Can anyone offer a reason why Apple would confine us to icon view for apps?
Imagine if you could only view your contacts as icons? Or your itunes tracks?
    Come on, what gives?

  • How can I get Apple Remote Desktop to disappear from my App Store updates list?

My Apple Remote Desktop software shows up in my App Store updates list.  But I have already updated it to version 3.6.1 and it shows as "Installed".  It is greyed out and will not go away.  Any ideas on how to make it disappear is most appreciated.

All the suggestions I have read have not worked for me.
    But you can try:
Running Software Update from the Apple Menu
Logging in to the Mac App Store with the account that purchased ARD
Deleting various Apple Store .plist files
NB I haven't tried removind ARD and reinstalling.

  • Iphoto app and Contacts List vanished

    Dear Apple,
My iPhoto app and Contacts list have disappeared from both my desktop and my Time Machine ( recently restored my internal harddrive from external HD ).
    1)  Can I select just iPhoto for installation from the system disk ?
    2)  I can highlight my complete Contacts list from several weeks ago in Time Machine, but when restored to today, the desired target  ( Contacts ) is grayed out. Do I need to create a temporary "Contacts*" app to be later renamed without a distinctive character ? I have created "Contacts" folder, which is unrecognized by Mail.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks !
    Rob Glass

The iPhoto app needs to be reinstalled form its original source - either the restore disks that came with yoru computer, the pruchased iLife upgrade disks or the App store

  • OS X Server dropped from App Store Purchases list

On 17 October 2017, I received notification of an OS X Server 3.2.2 upgrade.  I downloaded and installed the upgrade the same day.
After ensuring that I had a usable backup of my OS X Mavericks, I downloaded and installed OS X Yosemite today.  OS X Server 3.2.2 can't be used with OS X Yosemite.  When I checked for a newer version of OS X Server, I discovered that it was no longer in my Purchased list in the App Store.
On 17 October 2014, the App Store Purchases list included both Lion Server and OS X Server.  After installing Yosemite, only Lion Server remains in the list.
How does one get the OS X Server update?

I have this issue as well. Already called Apple about it once, and also sent a supoprt request to the App Store helpdesk to at least be able to upgrade my client's servers still running 3.2.2 on Mavericks. So far no succes, their policy is that if you upgrade ANY mac associated with the server app to Mavericks, your license for 3.2.2 is REVOKED and any systems still running Mavericks will be unable to upgrade from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2
On my server this has caused configuration profiles to no longer function, and as long as Apple doesn't reply I guess I'm stuck paying the $20. This bothers me. I know it's supposed to be cheap software but still, the usual demographic using this software are small businesses that want to manage their own software but don't have a lot of expertise. and stuff like this can really flark up their services. Apple should at least still allow people to install version 3.2.2 on their older machines.

  • Moving from 4s to 5s but only half my apps are enve listed.

I have synced my old 4s till I am blue in the face but in iTunes and Apps it shows face icons on the right ride of the paqe as 108 apps. I can see them all in my layout.
But on the left side of the page where the apps are all listed in a single row, there are only 54 apps listed. Is that a coincidence that it's exactly half of the apps that I own?
When I do the sync and backup to the itunes computer and then restore to the new 5s through iTunes restore, it only gives me the 54 apps that are listed in the left side of the apps page instead of the 108 that I actually have on the right side of the page where the icons are shown as they appear on your iphone. And only those 54 on the left side will move over to the 5s, so I am missing 54 apps. Every last one of them was purchased through itunes App store either on my iphone or through itunes on the computer.
When I goe to my iTunes account on the computer, select Apps from the menu and look for a history of what I have purchased, it only shows me songs I have bought.
I'm going crazy trying to get the other 58 working apps off my 4s to the 5s. Every Apple help file that you keep sending me says nothing about this or how to get them.
I hate the thought of having to go to the Apple store here to get this figured out. I was so hoping someone here would know what's happening to my other apps!
    Help if you can.
    Thanks,
    Steve

That should certainly work. Apps are not included in the iCloud backup. If you restore from iCloud you must re-sync the apps using the App Store on the phone - Updates->Purchases->Not on this phone, or sync through itunes on your computer. Backup and sync the old phone to iTunes, then Restore the backup and sync to get your apps and media back.

  • Accidentally removed a purchased app from the list

Accidently removed an app from the purchased list. How do I get it back on the list.
Alos is there a way to get App Store from continually saying that this app needs to be updated when in fact it is?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If you clicked the X on the line with the app's name on the Purchased pane, you have hidden the app in the list. Select Account in the Quick Links to the right of the Mac App Store on the Featured pane and you will find a section in your account details to manage hidden apps.
The other issue appears to be a glitch some folks encounter in the MAS that is hard to track down. You can try eliminating cache files associated with the MAS and try to track it down or if you plan to upgrade to Mt Lion later this month hope that will eliminate the problem.

  • HT201299 After installing an app on iPhone 5s, I can't use it outside of wifi (using cellular or mobile data) and the app is not listed in settings to enable its use of mobile data - any clues on what is wrong here?

After installing an app on iPhone 5s, I can't use it outside of wifi (using cellular or mobile data) and the app is not listed in settings to enable its use of mobile data - any clues on what is wrong here?

Steps to take to resolve this issue:
    1/  Turn off Wifi
2/  Ensure Mobile (cellular) data is on
3/  Turn iPhone OFF and then ON (re-boot iPhone)
4/  Without turning Wifi on, open an app that requires mobile (cellular) data.
5/  The app will now show on the Settings list with the option to enable or disable mobile (cellular) data
6/  In time all apps that require or use mobile data will be added to the list automatically.
