  • Unable to configure Etherchannel

As part of my studies for the bcmsn exam, I have been trying to configure etherchannel on a 3550 EMI switch and keep recieving the following message:
command rejected (port channel1 gi/01 ): either port is L2 and port channel is L3 or vice-versa. I have followed the config examples from the Cisco self study book and have tried switchport, no switchport commands and still keep recieving the same message. Has anyone out there experianced the same problem? Any ideas?
    Thanks for reading this!

    Hi there,
No, it does not have to be connected for the config to be entered and there should not be any error messages. You will get "down, down" on the port-channel, as the interfaces that you have nominated to be in the group will be down and therefore the switch will not put them in the channel-group. As and when they come up if you do a "sh int po 1" you should see the bandwidth increase to the total size of the links in the group.
With you haveing an error saying somthing about a layer 2 and layer 3 mismatch, it would conclude that there is a typo in the config.
The physical ports can either be layer 2 "switchport mode...." or layer 3 "no switchport, ip address...." These have to be the same on all ports involved - if the switchports are layer 3 (no switchport, etc) then the port-channel can't be a trunk.
Try configuring the ports using "channel-group 30 mode on" without doing and config on the port channel and see what happens. Failing that - post the config and we'll sort it ;)
Was Joe Cole's goal one of the best ever!?

  • 4 wifi bridges vs EtherChannel on switches

    he environment:
    L2 SWITCH
    | |
    AP AP
    AP AP
    | |
    L2 SWITCH
I've configured load-balancing src-mac on 1st side (pc lan) and dst-mac on the other side (router lan).
"The default is to use the source MAC address. This default means that all packets that the switch receives on a non-Fast EtherChannel port with the same MAC source address that have a destination of the MAC addresses on the other side of the channel take the same link in the channel. Use source-based forwarding when many stations that are attached to the Catalyst 2900XL/3500XL send to a few stations, such as a single router, on the other side of the Fast EtherChannel"
Need to know which EtherChannel L2 protocol (on switches catalyst 2950) use for combine 4 54Mbps Wireless AP (AIR-BR1310G-E-K9) to increase
wireless bandwidth, load sharing, load balancing and redundancy the L2 protocol.
I know that with EtherChannel solution I can't manage the bridges, but if I use EtherChannel on switches and only 1 bridge go down (maybe only the radio) the etherchannel is "aware of that L2 failure" (the port-channel check the other side)?
It's better to use "Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) / 802.3ad" or "Port Aggregation Protocol (PAgP)" ?

HelloI have a couple of uc520s2 - esw - 520-24p 2 - esw - 520-48p1 - 3560x switchthe 3560x is our core switch. my uplinks between the core and the 4 esw. i was able to get the etherchannels configured and "working" however the fact that the vlan 1 on the esw is the native vlan, i change the native vlan to be vlan 20 and i'm really struggling with thisI have 5 vlans configured on the 4 esw switches data, voice, management, servers, guest. i can't get the intervlan routing to work properly on the esw. If i configure any vlan on the 3560 i have access to the management vlanhowever if i connect my pc to any port on the esw switches i don't have access to the management vlan at all. for some reason intervlan routing isn't properly working. if i want to have access to the management vlan on the esw switches i need to assign a port on the esw to be on the management vlanif i use the common scenario, all the ports being voice + data, i can't manage any of the switches at allwhat else should i do to get this fixed ?is it something on the ether channels or am i missing something else ?thanks

  • Question about configuring Etherchannel on Catlyst 3750

    Hi, I have a stack witch catalyst 3750, I mean I have 3 switches ( 1 master, 2 slaves)
    My question
Can I configure an etherchannel having 2 interfaces on each switch?
    How can I do this?
    Thanks
    Regards

If you have a stack it should present itself as a single switch just put channel-group 1 desirable nonsilent if you are going to another cisco on each of the interfaces you want in the channel . this is for a layer 2 etherchannel . For a layer 3 etherchannel is somewhat more involved and too long to write here , just go to the cisco.com site and search on configuring etherchannels,3750 .

Question:  How do I configure my WAE to play nicely with this switch?

    Hi James,
Here is the link to WCCP config part on WAE:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v441/configuration/guide/traffic.html#wp1041742
In your case, if my understanding is right, VLAN300 is where you want to connect WAE and WAE is also L2 adjacent. if that is true, here is the config you need on WAE:
    wccp router-list 1 171.69.198.100
    wccp tcp-promiscuous router-list-num 1 l2-redirect mask-assign l2-return
    wccp version 2
Please note that 3750 supports L2 redirection only with redirect IN statements on 3750 interfaces connected to servers and clients.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Where prime saves configuration files of switches from invetory

    Hi Guys,
    we are using PI 1.3.
PI monitor and manage several switches. (about 30 devices)
I want to review the configuration of the switches with a text editor so it would be great if I could access the configuration files which PI creates by the background task "switch inventory".
Does anyone know where the PI store these files?
    Thanks and Regards, Alexander

  • CiscoWorks:Archieve configurations of routers/switches with only ssh/telnet

    Hi,
I want to do the archieve configurations of couple of routers/switches with only ssh/telnet and rest thousands of devices will be via snmp.
Currently I am backing up the configurations of thoudands of  routers/switches via snmp, as snmp is configured on them, but couple of routers/switches are external and snmp is not configured on them so I want to get their configuration via ssh/telnet only.
Please advise me that is it possible to do the archieve configurations of routers/switches with only ssh/telnet?
    I am using the
    LMS: 1.2.0
    RME: 4.3.0
    CS:    3.3.0
    CM:   5.2.1
    DFM: 3.2.0
    Thanks

The config archive protocol order applies to all devices universally.  Since you are using TFTP for most of your devices, I recommend you leave TFTP at the top of the protocol order list.  Add TELNET and SSH below TFTP.  The external devices will be attempted with SNMP/TFTP, but those operations will fail.  RME will then fall back to TELNET then to SSH.  It will eventually fetch the configuration successfully.

  • Configuring new 4506 switches.

    MERRY X-MAS !!!
I am going to configure IOS version of brand new 4506 Switch with Supervisory engine IV. You guys know that it has separate modules of Supervisory engine, 3 to 4 blades, redundant power supply. Because of this little bit confused. Apart from doing VLAN, STP configs, should I need to do any other configs for the chassis, redundant power supplies, blades, memory ect…..
If u do have any sample configs plz do help me guys…

No configuration needed for chassis/RPS. Configuration guidelines should help

  • Configure Voice and Data VLAN in CISCO SF 300 8P

I have a couple of Cisco SF 300 8P and 24 P Switches. I have voice and Data VLAN configured as :
    Data VLAN : Default 145.17.59.0/24
    Voice VLAN : VLAN 20 172.22.20.0/24
I have different DHCP servers as for Data VLAN we have physical server which is configured for 145.17.59.* IP Scope and Voice VLAN DHCP Server is configured in Gateway router with option 150.
This configuation works fine with other cisco swiches like 2960 and 3750 etc except CISCO SF 300 8P and 24P. I was trying to configure both voice and Data VLAN in these CISCO Switches so that CISCO phone (Model 6941) shold get IP from Voice VLAN and PC should get IP from Data VLAN DHCP Server. I have tried several techniques like LLDP, Port to VLAN Config etc.
Can anyone please guide me/help on this.
    Regards,
    A K.M.Sayeed

Hi A.K.M., with Cisco phones you should be able to simply set auto voice VLAN to be VLAN20.
    voice vlan id 20
You should ensure CDP and/or LLDP are enabled as well. I would check this in web GUI. DHCP for the phones can come from the switch, a DHCP server on a VLAN20 access port or you can use dhcp helper to redirect DHCP to server elsewhere.
If you prefer or have issues with CDP or LLDP you can also program ports as trunks and add tagged VLAN 20 to them.  In this scenario you need to insure inter-vlan routing is working and that phones download config file with corrrect VLAN config.
These switches do not run ios so they are similar but different than catalyst switches you referred to.

Start by working throudh the Troubleshooting iOS and WiFi knowledge base article and see if that helps the situation.  When you get to shutting down the router, be sure to disconnect power as shutdown on some is really just standby mode.

    Hi Adrian,
The most effective application for doing anything with Cisco Unified IP Phones (including updating/managing Phone backgrounds) is PhoneView from UnifiedFX (http://www.unifiedfx.com)
You can download for free and try it out, not only can you change background images in bulk with just a single mouse click, you can see the screen of multiple phones at once to confirm the correct image is displayed.

  • 3com and cisco switches (802.1q)vlan integration problem - broadcast storm?

    Hi forum,
we are using 3com switches, the 3com switches implement open vlans, which mean if an ieee 802.1q packet is received at a port and the port is not a member of that vlan, the switch does not perform vlan filtering. if the address is previously learned, it will be forwarded correctly, but if it is not, it will be flooded to all ports within that VLAN.
    my questions:
    1) if another cisco switch connected with the 3com switch are placed in the same vlan, and the 3com switch received a 802.1q packet from a rogue device, it will be flooded to all the ports(including the cisco ports) within that VLANs, will it cause a broadcast storm?
    2) how do i configure the cisco switch to filter off unknown tagged packet on a port? by using vlan prunning?
    3) how do i blocked the broadcast from the 3com switches? using broadcast suppression?
    4) is there a way on the design side to effectly counter this problem?
    Kind regards,
    paul

It sounds like setup of your 3com switch is not quite up to your requirements. If a port is declared as tagged, it's ok to receive tagged frames for VLAN's that were not previously known on this port. However if your policy requires that only specific VLAN's are permitted on given tagged port, then you need to add some extra command on your 3com switch. Check with documentation and possibly with your 3com support partner.
As for cisco routers, tagged ports in Cisco-speach are trunks (this might be confusing for you as 3com calls trunks what in Cisco world is known as either Etherchannel or port aggregation). By default a trunk (tagged) port allows any VLAN. If your policy requires so, you can explicitly specify which VLAN's are allowed on given trunk (tagged) port. If a frame arrives with a tag that is not on the allowed list, the frame will be discarded. So you don't need any fancy broadcast supression to block traffic from disallowed vlans coming from your 3com switch to cisco.
P.S.: Make sure that you don't mistake 'member of VLAN' with 'native VLAN'. Some parts of your message suggest that you do.
