Comp editing of multiple tracks

I'm still quite new to Logic 8 although been using Logic on and off since Version 5.0, this is my first post on here so be gentle with me
I've had a search in the help files and also through the forum archives but didn't find anything that relates to my question which is this
I've got a bunch of drum sessions using multiple close mics, room mics and mid & side on 8 songs in total, that I recorded last weekend and need to make comps of the best takes on each song, (average about 4 takes per song). I'm wondering if there is a tool such as a group function maybe? that allows me to select multiple takes to adjust the part of a region that I'd like to use instead of adjusting each individual region within the comp folders

You can type in 00:48:00:00 in the SMPTE portion of the transport bar, or click and drag your mouse over the numbers till you reach 48 seconds. the play head will move accordingly. When you get there, initiate the key command "Set markers without rounding". This key command may need to be set yourself. I don't recall if there's a default one or not.
With the marker set, select all, and initiate the key command for "split Regions/Events at playhead position". Then just delete the regions prior to the cut.
A full project fade out is easily accomplished using automation on the master channel strip.

How to do one comp on multiple tracks..

I may be missing the an obvious feature, but I can't work out how to apply the same comp to multiple tracks. I.e. I record an instrument with more then one mic and am left with several tracks of the same take however from different microphone and positions. I then comp the best take, however I want my comp to be the same on each of the individual tracks. Please could someone help?

I believe I may have answered this before, but anyway: the trick is to make the tracks part of the same group. In the group settings, chose only Regions selection (Edit). Now, when you edit one track, the other tracks in the same group will follow.

Quick swipe comping multiple tracks?

recently upgraded to Logic Studio from logic pro 7...I'm loving the quick swipe comping feature!!
anyone know if there is a way to use the quick swipe comping on multiple tracks simultaneously? for example, comping multi-track drums?
I've tried grouping the tracks, but can only get comping to work on one track at a time...

Hi all. I've searched the forum a bit for an answer, but couldn't find one. Here's the deal:
I finally need to do drum comping in Logic 8. I understand groups and enabling the edit feature, but man, am I getting some screwy results! (I have used the comping feature before on non-grouped tracks and it's worked fine.)
I can select whole takes, and every so often I can quick-swipe another take, but logic seems to erratically "undo" all my previous comps sometimes. Other times, it won't let me quick swipe at all. I'm in version 8.0.1.
Any ideas? Man, this thing would be a great tool *if it worked correctly*! I know, I know, no whining. But you gotta know how it feels when you're in the middle of a session.

Same way you select multipl items anywhere else.
Hold ctrl and click the items you want.
If they are in consecutive order, click the 1st then Shift click the last.

Multiple Track Editing

I just started working with multiple tracks(specifically for my podcast, but this question should be able to be answered by anyone working with multiple tracks). The problem I'm having is making edits to the file without de-synching the audio. Basically, if I want to edit out a section of the audio, I apparently can only edit it out in one of my two tracks. That means I have to go in to the second track and try to edit the same amount of that track out before moving everything over to fill the gap. Is there a way to edit something out of multiple tracks at once?

Yeah, when you find the Track Editor it seems like it would be the right place to do all the dirty work, but its really a VERY limited editor, and really the UI would be pretty complicated if it had to handle more than a single track at a time.
Once you get used to it, editing in the Timeline really is pretty quick, at least I've found it so. Hopefully it will work well for you once you give it a a go.

Is it possible to do comping from multiple tracks instead of normal comping from takes in Logic pro X?

Can't edit multiple tracks - plus 2 easy audio questions

I have a sequence with 1 video track and 6 stereo audio tracks. I set an in and an out point. The area on the clips in the timeline between the two edit points highlights, I hit delete. Normally, the tracks between the points should disappear as the two segments come together and form one great edit.
But all the tracks do not highlight and edit. The video track and stereo audio tracks 3+4 and 5+6 highlight and LIFT off. But audio tracks 1+2 do not highlight or edit. And the whole sequence doesn't close together where the edit should be.
Only way I have been able to overcome this is to use the razor blade tool, cut each track individually. Highlight them all, and then hit delete.
This didn't use to be the way. FCP used to edit through one track, 3 tracks or all tracks, no problem.
Two audio questions. How do you stop the waveforms from drawing onto the clips in the timeline, in order to speed up FCP?
How do you get the audio in captured clips to be a Stereo Pair, from the outset?

No. Should run fine. You get up into 6-12 audio tracks, FCP gets all moody and pouty.
But it depends on your system's capabilities and how well you have chosen your sequence settings.
Audio waveforms n FCP are a cruel joke compared to many other NLEs. Often easier to leave them off in the timeline, use the waveform in the Viewer and set markers for hooks in the audio tracks.

Re-synching multiple edits on one of multiple tracks

I am having sync problems in sequences that had randomly accepted non- 48htz audio rate captures. As I look at the series of edits which are now all out of sync and all located on the same track and wonder if there is a way to resync them easily across the board. The sequences have three angles all edited on respective tracks. I could slip the errant edits individually but that would be inefficient at best. Am I missing a logical work thru to repair the funky sequences? I did try adjusting them all at once by adjusting them universally but it only seemed to correct the specific sync I used as the master for the balance. Any thoughts on this?

By the way, the errant audio files were exported and re-imported as 48KHz. Although this has stabilized the sequence I am still pondering a logical solution to repairing the edits on the track that is out of sync.

Multiple track (or region) selection for mass editing and deleting.

My project has multiple tracks, and it is too long. So I'd like to be able to select multiple tracks and then remove regions across multiple tracks in one move rather than having to delete regions track by track, and then moving them back to close the gap (which is a time consuming pain)
Is this possible?

??I have been doing a little reading on the forum for multiple track recording but I could not find anything specific enough for what i need. I have a Fostex digital recorder and i would like to either send out the multiple tracks of say a drum recording to multiple tracks on Majix Music Studio ten. I have been playing around with it but i cant find exactly what I need. Ideally I would like to use the ADAT format from a digital optical cable to bring in the individual wave files directly to the computer. But if?can find a better way or if sombody knows of a fairly inexpensi've digital mixer with at least 6 channels (any input preferably XLR). Also my recorder has SPDIF but only in a two track format. It also has MIDI outputs and inputs but so far I dont think I can use that?for controling my software and sending in multiple tracks. I know my program can do ASIO and WDM. But I dont know what inputs are assigned to what numbers. If any body can awnser any one of these questions please post. ASIO sounds great but how do I identify the track numbers to what input and can i input all the tracks from a digital input?Comp info:?Windows

W/ ASIO, you can record from as many sources as you get listed/selected separetley in ASIO input port list (meaning those w/ names like Line-In, S/PDIF-In, Mic-In, Aux-In since, there are many of those ports meant for internal routings (W-U-H)). I don't know if you can use S/PDIF and analog inputs simultaenously. I think that Fostex is not very usable for you if you don't build a ADAT system over it. If you have the ADAT option in Fostex already available there and you can get 8 separate channels out from Fostex through it then you could get a soundcard which supports ADAT I/O (something like E-MU 22m ($99 atm.)) and record through Fostex into PC (though, A/D conversion quality Fostex does is propably not very good). Maybe you need more mic-preamps to record drums then too.

I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.

But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

How do I extract multiple tracks from a CD into a single file in Audition CS6?

I use Audition to edit my Pastor's messages. The message CD is made with five minute tracks. I want to extract the tracks from the CD into a single file for editing and altering the track lengths. I have done this before in Audition CS6, but I haven't been able to find instructions for it. I only found a note stating this is available in AuditionCC.

I have discovered an answer to my problem. The way to bring multiple tracks into Audition CS6 from a CD is to use the FILE / OPEN APPEND / TO NEW command. This brings the separate tracks into a single file in Audition CD6. Thanks to everyone who commented.

Exporting multiple tracks to EDL

I'm having problems exporting multiple tracks to an EDL.
The actual project file has come from somewhere else, so I have no idea what could have been set up to make it not work.
Basically, there are 11 video tracks, each with clips (some of the clips have been disabled, but all the tracks are enabled).
However, when I go to export/edl, with target video track unchecked, it only exports the lowest track for some reason.

edl is an old format from the linear edit days. it looks at track1 as being "video" and track2 as being "Key". if you must supply edl duplicate your sequence and flatten layers. if you need to get it to another fcp system use xml. if you're going to another system check out "Automatic Duck"

No Transitions on Multiple Tracks

I have been a Sony Vegas user for 2 years now and I just got FCPX. When I try to add a video transition to video it snaps to the audio acting like there's no video. It's extremely frustrating! I have tried re-installing it and creating a new user account. I was on the phone with 3 apple support people today. The best result I got was I had to attach the audio to the video, combine the tracks, split it where the next clip starts, and then add the transition. I'm having a hard time believing a professional editing system can't add transitions on multiple tracks, but a $90 editing system on a PC can.
If you have any suggestion please say them. Thank you!

If you're talking about adding transitions to clips above the main storyline, these are connected clips (not tracks) you need to select the relevant clips, right-click the selection and make those clips into a storyline (Cmd + G). You can then add your transitions.

Breaking up audiobooks into multiple tracks

I bought an audiobook from itunes that came as only 5 tracks. The book is 11 hours long and it would be really nice to be able to start closer to where I left off on my ipod. does anyone know how to edit mp4s to break them into multiple tracks?

Is it possible to have each field separated by a comma? Space
delimiters won't work since not all cities & states are one
word (ie. New York, New York) however a comma delimiter would allow
you to use simple list functions to extract the data.
If this isn't possible but the data is always in the format:
city<comma>state<space>zip, then you could extract the
city using comma as the delimiter and then extract the zip code
using the ListLast() function with space as the delimiter which
would leave you with the state as the remaining text. This would
only work however if your data is consistently in the format
described above.
Failing this you could build two tables with states and
cities and then use them to identify valid states and cities and
extract the data that way.
