  • Presario CQ61 BIOS Recovery

    Hello,
I am having a problem with a Presario CQ61-410 SV laptop. The laptop powers up, fan starts but screen remains black and I get caps lock and num lock leds blinking twice suggesting a BIOS corruption.
I browsed the Internet and read many forums here and there trying to recover the BIOS via a USB flash disk.
My HDD is replaced so the USB is the one way to go.
My first problem is that the links in the official HP support page seem to be all wrong.
    The BIOS download provided here
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=gr&dlc=el&sw_lang=&product=4099...
has a BIOS for my laptop but it clearly states that it is for an Intel processor.Problem is that the CQ61-410SV has an AMD processor.
However, I did download the provided file for the BIOS. I extracted it and got the .fd file that is supposed to be the one that needs to be flashed. I copied the file to a USB flash disk that had previously prepared withe the provided HP UEFI tool. I tried putting the file into the BIOS folders "Current" and "Previous" in the USB flash disk and powered on the laptop holding the windows key + B combination. The laptop did read from the USB returned some beeps, rebooted but then got the same bios corruption failure. I tried putting the .fd file to the root of the USB, tried changing the extension to .bin, tried different names for the files (as some posts through the Internet suggest)m I even tried different combinations of all of the above. The laptop does read from the USB disk and returns some beeps ( I even got 20 beeps) but then the problem persists. I even tried previous BIOS versions from the HP official support which also state that they are for intel processors.
    So the questions are:
    1. Are the HP links wrong? Has HP messed up their links or is it just a typo?
    2. If we assume that the downloaded BIOS file from HP is fine, what should be its name and extension (after extracted from the .exe file I get a .fd file) and where in the USB flash disk should I put it.
    3. Which is the proper BIOS recovery procedure for the Presario CQ61-410SV
    Thank hoy everybody in advance.

It is either a typo _Or the BIOS files are wrong. I will try to get someone to check for accuracy.

  • Compac presario C700 recovery discs failure

My Compac Presario froze, I closed it and then it would not start.  I managed to get onto restore facility but it would not work and ultimately I got out my 3 recovery discs.  The first 2 ran successfully but the third only goes to 18% and stops.  This means I cannot use the computer.  I really would appreciate any help on this.  Thanks

    Hello @yorkshirelad ,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are experiencing an issue with your notebook. However, since this is a commercial notebook, you should post your issue on the notebook board of the HP Enterprise Forums for a better answer.

I assume that the disk is corrupt?
Which disk is compatible with mine?

    Hi,
Please do a HDD test first:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Keep tapping the F10 key when the HP logo appears. This will take you to Bios Setup Utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostic tab.
    4. Select the "hard drive self test" option and press enter to perform the test.
Note: This test may take up to 40 minutes or more.
Pass - The hard drive is not damaged.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced.
Normal SATA 2.5" HDD from Samsung, Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi .... can do the job. You can use bigger (capacity) too.
    Good luck.

  • Toshiba A105 BIOS Recovery Process Questions

    Hi!
Ive got a Toshiba Laptop A105-S4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. Options available on this screen are: Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar is replaced with the text "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53. It looks like its at least partially POSTing since it shows CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows.
Ive read the posts on here regarding the BIOS Recovery Process and was hoping someone could provide some clarification for me, especially since Ive already waited a week with no reply on another tech support site forum. :-(
Anyways... Ive downloaded the Crisis Recovery.zip files to create a Recovery Disk and am trying to follow the instructions.
There are a bunch of files in the .zip and Im not sure exactly which files I need to have on the boot disk Im creating.
The files in the .zip are:
    - crisboot.bin
    - CRISDISK.BAT
    - makeboot.exe
    - minidos.sys
    - phlash16.exe (actually PHLASH16 version 1.6.5.4)
    - wincris.exe
    - wincris.hlp
Ive downloaded the BIOS Update from Toshibas website for the A105-S4284. Which file do I need to rename to BIOS.WPH and add to my Recovery Disk directory? Do I want "s10gm600.rom" or "1988d600.ima"? I extracted the file from the bootable BIOS installation diskette (1988d600.exe) to get the 1988d600.ima file.
I ran wincris.exe and only the following files end up in the directory Ive designated for my Recovery Disk:
    - BIOS.WPH
    - MINIDOS.SYS
    - PHLASH16.EXE
Do I need any of the other files from the original .zip?:
    - crisboot.bin
    - CRISDISK.BAT
    - makeboot.exe
    - wincris.exe
    - wincris.hlp
If someone could provide some clarification on which files to use and most importantly, if those are the correct files for the laptop Im trying to fix. I think all the posts Ive read are for laptops newer than this one and it seems the secret to succeeding at recovering a BIOS is using the CORRECT files. Ive searched all over and cant find any posts from someone with an A100/A105 who has been able to do a BIOS Recovery from a CD, USB floppy or USB flash drive.
    Is there ANY hope?
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance with this; its GREATLY appreciated.
    Sarah ;-)

    Hi Sarah,
I had the same thing happen to my A105 4094.  I've looked at some of the other blogs, but I'm not sure if I should try the corrective action they suggest.  Not sure how common the different models are.
I'm going to keep trying to resolve this.  If I find something that works, I'll write again and let you know.  Please do the same for me and other A105 owners.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

  • Compaq Presario F700 Laptop - Ethernet Replacement (NIC)

    Hi All!
I recently downgraded my laptop to XP. I've had the hardest time finding drivers for the LAN.  So I finally found them and now the connection is always limited or no connectivity when plugged via ethernet.
I tried to release and renew the IP address, but the system is unable to renew it through CMD.  My internet works fine with my other two computers.  I've used the same ethernet cord that is connected to this computer to my laptop and they all result in limited or no connectivity.
I'm thinking the NIC needs replacing but I cant find the replacement part number.  I only see the number for the WLAN.  Would that be the same part?  I didnt think so, because the wireless is fine, it is just the LAN connection that I seem to have a problem with.  I dont even see where I can access the ethernet adapter from the bottom of the laptop.
I got the replacement part from this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Compaq-Presario-F700-Laptop-NIC-Replacement/td-p/1639...
Anyone know what part I would need to replace the LAN ethernet adapter, not the wifi?  (unless they are the same, want to make sure before I order it).
    Thanks!
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
In order to replace the ethernet adapter you would need to replace the entire motherboard.
The link you referred to (which I answered way back when), was to replace the wireless network card.
I recommend you just purchase a USB to RJ-45 ethernet adapter until you buy a new PC.
If your notebook has an amd processor, this is the XP driver that you should be using.

  • Presario f700 black screen at start up,

presario f700 black screen at start up, if left  to own it flashes hard drive light once fan starts then turns off the starts again can get it to stop this sequence by pressing certain keys but screen always stays black and remote screen does not turn on. Have tried removing memory, hard reset, removed ram, have tested hard drive out of device. Anything else I can try.
Book says 15secs for a hard reset, one post said 30secs, which is correct

Hi, 30 secs is the better of the two options there. I am assuming the Hard drive tested fine? You can try turning the computer on with out the hard drive in it and see if you atleast get some text saying not bootable device or if you are able to boot into BIOS. If this does not happen you can switch out the ram chips. (boot with one chip then take it out and boot with the other) see if these work. If these steps fail its more than likly more of a hardware issue with the systemboard.
While I may work for HP, my posts and replies are my own and should not be mistaken for statments made by HP as a whole.

    [Solved]
    Fixed it!
So for everyone with same model and same problem: It turns out this bios really don't boot-block. So failed bios = paperweight brick without recovery options.
But this is how I solved mine. Bought a SPI programmer, ic test clip (soic8) , some wires and made adapter to connect clip ind programmer. Had some problems , and had also to modify downloaded bios since I didnt have good backup but after little playing it fired right up. If you have good backed up rom, flashing should be easier. This is solution for those with more technical skills , but much easier than soldering the chip.

  • Compaq Presario SR2129UK bios update for windows 8 pro 32bit

    Hi all.
I have recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 pro to Windows 8 pro. I have alos changed the CPU to a pentium D, The power supply and the graphics card but I am having from with my SD ram and temperature displays.
I want to upgrade my bios if possible due to all the upgrades, when I looked in this site it doesn't mention windows 8 operating system with my PC? My system info is below.
Compaq Presario SR2129UK bios update for windows 8 pro 32bit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi:
The only BIOS update for your model is for Windows Vista (v5.23).
There aren't any newer BIOS releases than that one.
You would need to be running Windows Vista in order to update the BIOS, or you would run a better than 99% chance of completely wrecking your PC.

  • Ideacentre B520 Bios Recovery

    Hi,
I would like to know, if there is a BIOS Recovery function for the IdeaCentre B520. Something like the normal Recovery-function for AMI-Bios with AMIBOOT.ROM on an USB-Stick or a Jumper on the mainboard.
I need this just for my documentation. If there will be a BIOS-Update in future, I could be sure, that I can recover my BIOS in case of a bad flash.
If there is no such option, were is the BIOS-chip located on the mainboard?
    With best regards,
    nordicboy

That would be very interesting, if there is such a recovery option! Is there a step by step instruction? Does it even exist?

  • Microphone help with Presario F700?

Hi there everyone, I have a Presario F700 notebook that uses Vista.  I recently learned that it comes with a microphone in it but despite my best efforts I can't seem to get it to work.  The computer is telling me the microphone is active and enabled yet it doesn't seem to pick up any sound.
Here's the info for my mic:
Description: Microphone (Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221)
      Default Sound Capture: Yes
      Default Voice Capture: Yes
                Driver Name: CHDART.sys
             Driver Version: 4.31.0000.0000 (English)
          Driver Attributes: Final Retail

                  Cap Flags: 0x1

I'm still pretty much an amateur when it comes to computers, so if more information is needed or anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I am also an amateur but I had a similar problem with my HP.  I bought a set of headphones and that worked for me- try to borrow some and test your computer.
