Compact Flash Drives/Other Probs Mega 180

I've had my MEGA 180 for almost two weeks and like many here it has been a pain in my butt.
After reformatting and installing the software in a certain order I finally got my system somewhat stable, but I am running into new issues now.
My compact flash drives no longer show up in my computer, I can't find them in Device Manager either.  Also every now and then my network card will only send not receive.  Tried different cables and it's no help.  It may also be my cable modem, but I don't know.
I'm not running the nForce IDE SW driver because if I do I get the eject button lock-up problem people are having, but the performance leaves something to be desired.
My PC Alert also died, it was working fine.  Now if it is allowed to boot it will not completely load its GUI and begin to say my CPU is running way hotter than it is and after a minute of 100% CPU it will cut off my computer if not killed.  I just un-installed it for now.  The funny thing is, their Fuzzy Logic program works for getting the temps.
I'm in a back and forth email wth MSI Taiwan right now, but I don't see it going anywhere.  Hoping like everyone else these issues can be fixed with driver and BIOS updates.  I would be EXTREMELY unhappy to have to go through an RMA process even with companies that have good RMA policies.
As far as their bundled software, MSI Media Center is the biggest POS I have ever used.  I am currently using ShowShifter and it works REALLY well with my 8606 master tuner.
Enough ranting for now, if anybody else has similar problems, let me know.  If you have solutions EVEN BETTER!

xp sp1a, all patches, etc.
PC4000 (yes overkill, but I got a good deal on it)
I had 2700 in it and it still acted the same way so I doubt memory is the problem.
Now my damn tv tuner is being an ass and is making it so I can only view the cable right in RGB24, not the default YUY2.  In YUY2 it is almost like the brightness settings/contrast settings are all wrong, but adjusting them doesn't do anything.  It worked this morning.
If I had a dollar for everytime I had said "it worked this morning" with this thing I'd be able to buy something else.

  • Where can I find cd driver for MSI mega 180

I've lost my CD for install driver on my mega 180 and afer reformat it, I can't install modem and wireless driver.
I try to dl them from MSI but the dl driver don't work.
Is somebody will be able to dend me an iso to this mailbox ? [email protected]
    Thank's

MSI used two different modem models for the Mega 180.  The only way to check which model you have would be to peek at the modem itself.  Unfortunately, the modem is tucked underneath the power supply, so to get a look at it, you would need to take apart most of your Mega first.  The easier way would be to just download both drivers, try one out, and if it doesn't work, try the other.  Both are available for download here:

  • Imaging a Touch Panel Computer (NI TPC-2206) Compact Flash Drive

    Hi
We are using NI TPC-2206 touch-panel computers running a pre-installed build of Windows Embbeded Standard 7.
What is the best configuration of software tool and hardware to image and replicate a NI TPC-2206s' Compact Flash drive?
We have got many TPC-2206 units, but one or two have become corrupt (we did not enable EWF before we started treating them roughly with powering off).
We have tried using an application called "Active Boot Disk" to image a CF-drive and apply it back, but it fails during boot. We found an NI article about this, but it recommends using Ghost which is no longer sold.
Is there a best configuration of imaging software and CF drive which anyone has tried and used, and know works?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
Yes, the CF drive boots fine. I made a boot image using Ghost and it went onto the other CF drive without any problems. The only thing I may not have preserved is the size of the partition. That seems to be variable from Ghost which defaults to the full capacity of the CF drive. I overrode this and set it to what I roughly calculated as half that capacity.
once the image was booted and I did some chores like emptying the recycle bin, changing the power options, etc., I opened a command window by right-clicking the cmd icon and selecting run-as-administrator. Its the only way to get ewfmgr to work. Just so you know I have been using ewfmgr this way for some time on the undamaged tpc's, without any problems.
Anyway, when I run ewfmgr it simply gives a one liner saying unable to find Ewf volume. If I do -help I see the options available to ewfmgr, so it is definitely the correct ewfmgr program that runs.
When I look at the cf disk using Control-Panel >Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, I see the primary partition and unallocated space just as I set when I applied the image. I'll send you a shot of that using diskpart as soon as I can.
Just so you are aware, I do notbhave a way of building a WES7 image from scratch. I can only use the image that comes with the TPC's themselves. Alsoi have 16GB CF drives. Th amount of used space in the primary partition is well within the partition size created via Ghost.
If you have any ideas to try when I get to making screenshots, let me know.
    Thanks

  • Compact Flash Drive Destroyed.... by Lion apparently

I have been importing RAW photos from my 8 GB compact flash card into iPhoto for 3 years. The other day, I went to import and I got an error from OS X that said:
OS X can't repair the disk "DISKNAME"
    Then the error:
The disk was not ejected properly....
At that point the drive disappeared from the desktop and re-appeared and it happened all over again. I took the card to a camera store and they couldn't open it on a PC, it said "please format" or something like that. I bought another card and took 400 irreplacable photos on the new card. I plugged it into my Mac and it happened again on the new card.
By this time I am freaking out because I can't lose these photos too. (All photos on the other card are completely gone!!!!!!) I immediately took the card to a friend's PC and got all the photos off the card and on a DVD-R. Thank goodness I didn't lose them! Then I had to leave with my TAIL BETWEEN MY LEGS!
I plugged this NEW card into another Mac and it worked fine. I was expecting the same error because of the reader or the wire that connects it. Nope! Everything worked fine.
That is when I remembered that I had just upgraded to OS X 10.7.5. My other mac that worked is running 10.6.8.
This leads me to believe that 10.7.5 destroyed my card! And more importantly destroyed 300 irreplacable photos!
To confirm, I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I plugged the NEW card in an it worked fine.
So did Lion 10.7.5 killed my compact flash card and robbed me of 300 photos? I truly believe so.

I just did a security update and when I plugged in my CF Card it started doing it again! Same error.
What the *&#$*&^ is going on?
The only way I can safely import photos is to plug the CF Card into my laptop running Snow Leopard and import across WIFI. It took long enough to import via USB, now I have to go through WIFI?
Is this how it works on Windows?

  • Booting Solaris 11 Express from Compact Flash !

    Hello,
I've managed to get SOL 11 Express to boot off of a Compact Flash drive. I would now like to minimize the write/erase cycles to extend the life of the compact flash drive. This document outlines the steps that can be taken to reduce writing to the flash drive.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19469-01/820-4893-13/compact_flash.html
The guide explain how to redirect log entries to an NFS share and then how to handle the swap partition.
There are 2 issues that I'm up against -
    1. I don't have an external server to redirect my log entries. I would like to have my logs written to a hard disk attached to the server itself rather than an NFS share.
    2. The entries to the swap partition in the guide seem to reference how to make the changes in linux. Would the same technique work even in SOL ?
Any help with the above 2 points and any others that I might have missed will be appreciated.
    Thanks in adance

Ok - Unfortunately it does not work even on a reboot. The problem I think it happening is that the storage pool (that hosts the moved /var folder) does not seem to be available at boot time. So when I delete the original /var, the system complains that it's unable to write to the various logs. I'm trying to see if there's a way to make the storage pool available at boot time. But I don't know enough of Solaris to get there quickly.
If anyone else has some additional pointers, that will be great.....

I have a 4Gig Flash Drive that doesn't mount. It shows up in both SYstem Profiler and USB Prober. Is there any way to "fix" it? I don't need to recover any files - I just want to be able to use it.
It used to work, maybe a year ago. Havn't touched it since.
The port is just fine, it's definitely the drive.
    Thanks for your time!

it doesn't show up in disk utility. unless there is a way to force mount it, disk utility can't help.

  • Mega 180 - Install Video Card or Install Video Driver

I just spent 6 hours at a customer's house trying to fix the Mega 180 I built for her.
As I stated in a previous thread, the machine was working fine and then she experienced the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.  This is when your machine POSTS, loads Windows and just before Windows starts, the monitor goes dead.  Windows still loads and if you remember where icons are on the desktop, you can click them and stuff happens.  The monitor just stops getting a signal.  However, if you hold down F8 during boot and chose VGA mode, you can use Windows in VGA mode.  The monitor being used is a Sony Multiscan200ES.
Once in Windows, if you look under device manager, you'll see a listing of Unknown and under that it lists nVidia GeForce4 MX Integrated CPU.
So, I've tried the following fixes:
    1) Uninstalled all chipset & viideo drivers, reboot, reinstall chipset drivers, reboot, reinstall video driver, reboot.  BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    2) Uninstall video driver, reboot.  Windows starts under the generic driver.  I install the video driver, reboot, BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    3)  Figuring there had to be an easier solution to this problem, I installed an ATI Radeon 8500 card that I had laying around (I know this card works) figuring that I'll just sidestep the whole video driver issue by not using the onboard video.  Things just aren't that easy because after I installed the card the machine won't even POST.  It turns on but nothing happens.  ARRRR!!!  I try reseating the card, nope - nothing.  I take the card out and use the onboard graphics to make sure everything is ok in BIOS.  I read that if the BIOS detects an AGP card it will automatically disable the onboard graphics but it doesn't seem like that's happening.  So I look around BIOS and there is no way to disable the onboard graphics.  I have it set to boot AGP first, etc. and nothing works.
I guess the last thing I can do is reformat the drive, reinstall windows, and reinstall everything else.  But I don't want to do this because the machine is all set up, been used for a while, and it takes so long to reinstall everything.
My question is this.  How can I either reinstall the video driver so it works or how can I install a video card so it works?  Ideas???

    Quote
I'm going to hunt over at nVidia's website to see if they have a cleaner utility (ATI does for its Radeon drivers - rids the system of every last trace).
nVidia don't need a cleaner utility cos their software is better written!
stab in the dark - the vga lead is connected to PRIMARY vga port?
go to add/remove programs and Remove "Nvidia Display Driver" in Safe mode
restart your computer and it should boot into VGA mode, and prompt with Found New Hardware. cancel this.
the nvidia software will leave the install stuff on your computer, usually in C:\NVIDIA. browse to here and find and run the setup.exe to reinstall the software.
if its been working before, then its probably not a memory issue - it might also be worth making sure the latest nforce drivers (3.13) are installed too.
oh and customers usually WON'T admit to messing around to stuff they shouldn't - in my experience anyway!!

  • Compact flash reader in second super drive slot? Suggestions/Recommendations?

I would love to add a internal compact flash reader as I do alot of photography. Is there a somewhat easy solutuon to adding one to the open slot under the cd/dvd super drive?
I coulden't easily find products for this... any suggestions or links to anyone who has done this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    FAT32 format is OK.
Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Mega 180 DVD+/-RW DL Compatible Drives

Bought a Samsung DVD burner and it seems it isn't compatible with my Mega 180.   Luckily the store I bought it from have a seven day return policy. However, they don't stock any MSI drives. My old LG DVD drive worked fine in the 180. I was wondering which of these drives would be most likely to work:
    Liteon 1633s
    LG 4160B
    NEC 3500A
    Pioneer 108
    Sony DRU710
I'm probably leaning toward one of the first three, since I have seen in these forums that some NEC drives work, my old LG worked and I've always been lucky with Liteons.
Anyone here have a dual layer working in their Mega? What brand?

I use the NEC-3500A in mine and it works perfectly (and my fav store has them on sale today as well...http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-032&depa=1)

  • MEGA 180 Hard Drive Option 3.5" to 2.5"?

    Hey All,
    Happy Holidays!
Just wondering if anyone out there has converted their 3.5" drive to a 2.5" to open up room in the case and allow more air flow and possibly lower heat?  Was looking at getting this neat little unit to make the conversion.  Any thoughts?
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=244974&CatId=81
    Cheers!

    That's great news Stu.
However I don't know much about hard drives and was wondering which would be a better fit for my system?  PATA 2.5" 5400RPM or 2.5" 7200RPM
Also which brand do you recommend?  Hitachi,   Maxtor MobileMax, Toshiba,  Seagate Momentus,  Western Digital Scorpio, Fujitsu.
Having a hard time finding Fujitsu drives now it seems.  I could go with a SATA 2.5" drive if I could find a PATA to SATA adapter cause the Mega 180 already has a SATA power cable.
    So to recap:
    1. 5400 or 7200?
    2. Dependable Brand?
    3. Is it worth it to try and convert PATA to SATA?
This is a great forum and has helped me a lot with my Mega 180 so all input is gladly appericated once again.  Happy New Year All!

  • Mega 180 Ethernet Driver?

In my Device Manager other devices has shown a (?) of Ethernet Controller. I guess it is due to the system is not able to find the suitable driver for it. I have tried to serach for the driver from the bundle CD and even the latest nforce driver (5.1) download from Nvidia web but none of them is the suitable one as the system prompt me not able to find the driver. What actually the system wants? What is this Ethernet Cotroller?? What should i do should i leave as it is?? :hypecrite:

I should confess I overlooked something when making the previous post....
There is one more  NIC"present in my Device Manager, apart from the wireless LAN card an the NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (the mobo NIC, in other words).
The overlooked one is called 1394 Net Adapter, its reported "location" is on OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
I have no idea how to use it and what for...
Is it supposed to be useful to emulate an "network" connection over a Firewire link, or what?

  • MEGA 180 Hard drives

How hot are peoples hard drives running???
After using the MEGA 180 to watch a 1.5hr DVD the temp of my hard drive gets upto approximately 57C. I have it placed in the top HDD bay resting on 3 small pieces of foam so its isolated from the case. This stops any vibrations and makes the system a lot quieter but probably contributes to the high temperatures.
The other thing with the 7200rpm drive is the high pitched whine as im normally sat close to the PC. Its highly directional and i think a characteristic of most 7200rpm drives.
    Im seriously thinking about getting a Samsung SV1604N (160GB 5400rpm 2MB).
Hopefully it will be quieter, without the high pitched squeal, and run cooler with the lower spin rate.... any comments or ideas ???

  • Mega 180 @#%%#!!!! Driver Problem

I'm writing more to vent than anything.  I also want to see if anyone has the same problem I just had.
Well, I got the Mega 180 running perfectly.  I mean this thing was running sweet.  I just finished building it, loading all the software, etc. and have been running it for a few days w/o any problems.  Then when running it I tried to boot an MP3 and I got an error that no sound card is detected - weird.  I looked under properties and it showed that no driver was installed for the onboard sound (where did it go??).
So I tried a reboot and got the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH (see other post for explanation on this).  So I rebooted, entered via vga mode, uninstalled all nVidia drivers, rebooted, and reinstalled all the drivers.  Guess what???  Still no sound and only VGA.  I tried unloading and reloading several times to no avail.  !!!!!!
Is it hardware???  Is it software????  Am I not doing a complete chipset driver uninstall????  Seems to me that after I reinstall the drivers and reboot, everthing should get recognized and installed?  That's how it usually works but with the Beta 180, nooooo, not gonna happen.  Instead, another mystery problem that I'm going to spend days solving.
I do this for a living (build PCs) and I've had nothing but problems with this thing.  I've RMA'd it, it has burt out two 512mb sticks of RAM, I've wiped the disk clean and reinstalled everything.  I figure I've lost around $700 on this thing (new RAM, my time, etc).  I always use Shuttles but my customer wanted the Mega 180 ----  should've stuck to my guns and told her no!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I solved this nagging video driver problem.  As you know, I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the chipset and video drivers many times and I've tried both the MSI drivers and those from nVidia's websits all to no avail.  Well, I finally got the thing working - here's how:
    1) Complete driver uninstall, chipset and video. Reboot.
    2) Don't let Windows install any drivers upon detection.  Instead, run DriverCleaner off of http://www.driverheaven.net  It's a free driver cleaning utility.
    3) I reinstalled the chipset drivers off of MSI's site, reboot, then installed the video driver off of nVidia's site.  Reboot.
After that, everything worked just fine.  My guess is that a pesky little chunk of a driver was not getting uninstalled during the normal driver uninstall and this little thing was screwing up all future installs.
