Who can explain how to compact an MDM Repository and why? Thanks!

When the number of records in an repository has been reduced significantly, the repository becomes sparse and the MDM Server becomes less efficient. The compact command is used to reduce the runtime memory used by the MDM repository and increase its speed.The Compact command only compacts those tables that exceed certain sparseness thresholds.

Problem: Unable to retrieve workflow data from MDM repository

This is a new MDM installations scenario for version 5.5 SP05 (5.5.40.83).
After installing MS Visio, finding problems connecting it with the MDM Data Manager. After doing MDM workflow installations, able to initiate the MS Visio Workflow from MDM Data Manager and can see the Pane-MS Visio Workflow Stencil but not the able to see the Pane-MS Visio Workflow Stencil Details that appears below the Pane-MS Visio Workflow Stencil. Secondly geting a pop-up with the error message as - 'Unable to retrieve workflow data from MDM repository.'
I have added a parameter Mail Server=MailServerIPAddess (the existing IP addr), but it hasn't helped.
Can any one please help me in this !

As Felix mentioned, it might be a version compatibility problem.
You have also mentioned that mail server is not working for that do this
Mailserver = SMTP server.company.com ( ex. Mail.company(xxxxx).com)
MDM workflow notify task is working after rebooting the Machine. So the rule is after making changes to MDS.ini file reboot the machine ,to observe the consequence of configurable changes.

Uploading images whit thumbnail to MDM repository using Java API

Hello,
can someone tell me how to upload images whit thumbnail to MDM repository using Java API?
i get following message using setHasThumbnail(true):
com.sap.mdm.commands.CommandException: com.sap.mdm.internal.protocol.manual.ServerException: Ungültiger Wert für Parameter

You can upload images to MDM via the API, but the only way to create thumbnails is via the MDM Data Manager application which uses some embedded libraries to do the work.

MDM Repository not Connecting after Server shifting

Hi,
Here We have SAP MDM 7.1 06 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Oracle.
Recently we have shifted our MDM Server from 1 Data Center to Another Data Center, After this change MDM Instances started successfully.
1st Problem:
Now the problem is, i am not able to connect repository (Error is: Repository connect failed, Invalid Object State). After i mount the MDM Server in console, repository not connecting.
2nd Problem:
when i right click on MDM Server in Console, even i am not able to connect Databse in DBMS Setting (Error is: Unable to connect with Database server).
Need Help to fix this issue at the earliest.
Did some searches on net and sdn forums but couldn't get right solutions.

Thanks For your support.
The issue has been solved.
Problem was: MDM Server and Repository was not connecting to DB, due to sever shifting to new location with different public IP.
Solution is: when i check the tnsnames.ora file in the below location Old public IP was given so, now i just changed the newly assigned public IP, (Under file path: <Drive>:\oracle\SID\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN).
After the change and update of new public IP in tnsnames.ora, we have restart the MDM instances and DB from OS Level.
After this activity, DB connection issue was solved, then now i am able to connect to existing MDM repository.

How to add MDM Repository in DS?

Hi All,
We have MDM 7.1 and would like to integrate with BO Data Services XI.
Can any one please provide some information to solve my problem to create MDM Repository in BO DS.
I am trying to create a Repository in Data Services Management Console of database type MySQL. The details what i provided, is given below:
Repository name: I have given name of the MDM repository here
Database type:Microsoft SQL Server
Machine name: the system name on which MDM 7 is installed is provided
Database port: 1433 or i need to give the MDM repository port name?
Database Name:?
User NAME and PWD: here i have to give MDM or Database userdetails?
Am I giving right credentials and is this right way to connect directly to the MDM repository from DS?
It would be great can anyone please through some ideas to resolve this issue.

Creating MDM repository for Material Master Data

Hello MDM Gurus,
I am new to SAP MDM. I want to create MDM repository for Material Master. What I unddertand is, I can create repository using Bussiness Content shiped with MDM software. I will copy *.a2a file to archive folder of MDM server and unarchive repository. I have following question for you.
1. HOw do I use export maps and import maps which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
2. How do I use MDM Lookup Tables which is xml document in Busines contenst\Material folder?
3. Why is the use of MDMGX_55520_Material.txt file which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
4. What is the use of *.xsd files and how can I use them?

save all the map files on your loacl machine. open import manager and select file-> Import, browse to the .map file and save the map with a meaningful name. now next time connect to the source file you want to import and OPEN the map saved.
2. How do I use MDM Lookup Tables which is xml document in Busines contenst\Material folder?
Businees content contains the standard ECC refernce tables like countries, regions etc which can be refreshed from ECC. for this you have to configure MDMGX, defining all the ports in MDM and in ECC the tables from which data has to be refreshed. refer to below threads for details.

This helps us in configuring the table extraction from ECC, refer to thread-> Extract Data usnig MDMGX

Schema files are used for syndicating the records from MDM to source system. Say we want to syndicate material master from MDM to ECC and in ECC they will be posted via MATMAS05 IDoc. these schemas are the structure of IDoc which will contain the values which will be syndicated from MDM.

SAP MDM Repository Roles

Dear Friends,
We have a repository in MDM. As part of the MDM repository creation, the system delivered a user names 'Admin"n with super access.
Now, we wanted to create a user with the role "Who can just have access to Create Users".
Also, we wanted to create a user with the role "Who can do all the repository development work but shouldn't have access in Administration space (like create users, ports and so on)".
Kindly help me out and let me know on how to achieve this?

Early this month we upgraded the MDM server to:
MDM Server version: 5.5.63.57
And the portal components:
MDM 5.5 SP06 Technology Patch 3 (Build 5.5.63.57)
MDM 5.5 SP06 Application Patch 3 (Build 5.5.63.57)
MDM 5.5 SP06 Java API Patch 3 (Build 5.5.63.57)
However the issue just began 2 days ago?
We started intgrating MDM Workflow with UWL and assigned Roles and Iviews to the Universal Worklist Configuration
It seems the Iviews work for a while and then after some time everything gives up? Very confounding
And yes we are using standard Iviews (search, Result and detail)

Create MDM repository from repository schema.

Hi,
I have exported MDM repository from one MDM console schema and saved it. Now I am trying to create a Repository from a different MDM console using this Schema. I am getting the Error "ERROR LOADING FILE".
The versions of these MDM are different. Is this causing the failure? How can I overcome it?

Hi Mahesh,
This is an Un-usual error, which even I am facing. In my case there is no version mis-match. I am trying to take the Export the Schema from a rep in 1 MDM server and then importing into another rep in another server.
Hence it might not be a version issue.
However, check the following things in your case.
1. Check the Original repository for error and repair them if found any. Upload your repository with Updated indices. Export the schema out and save it on your desktop.
2. Try creating a new repository using Import Schema on the same MDM server and check if its still showing you an error.
3. Try importing the schema on an Existing repository on the same MDM server.
4. Try Importing the schema and create a new repository on a different MDMserver.
Please check it in a test environment and no need to press the OK button while Import schema. We just need to see if the Import schema windows opens.
If in any case, you do not find the error, then probably we can understand the clear reason of the Error.
If error still persists, then would advice you to raise an SAP ticket for the same.

"the MDM repository is invalid"

Hej All
Vi have updatered our MDM server with standard update from Microsoft. Later on we can't start MDM services, therefore after "a long fight" it was decided to restore repositories in that way:
we restored a backup of the MDM database on the newly installed server. Afterwards we copied the MDM directories from the old server. we changed the servername in all configuration files and started the MDM systems.
All seems to be fine but each time we log on to repository we got an error:
"the MDM repository is invalid"
can you help?

just few questions to you
1) Have you checked the connection between your MS Sql and SAP MDM Server ?
2) If you have then are you able to create the repository manuallly?
if you have made the connection and still you are not able to create the repository manually then please reset the connection again, also plz check if the name of this particular repository you are trying the log in is ceated in your MDIS, MDS and MDSS.
if every thing seems to be right then please again import the schema of your old repository and then log with admin user and check if you are able to connect to the repository.
if still you are unable to log in please let us know.

MDM WebServices Problem while connecting to MDM repository

Hello,
we have installed the Web Services for MDM.
When I test the Services, say the MDMSearchRecords I always get a ERROR status and the Message:
id (String) WS_LogonProblem
severity (String) ERROR
text (String) Problem while connecting to MDM repository: z_Material on server: debmu416.server..... at port: 4000. Maybe the Repository-Information has not been set correctly at the requested query.
status (String) FAIL
The Repository Information I try to connect with is correct (Repository Name, Server Name, Port, data Language and schema Language).
Can you pls tell me where the problem could be?

you were right! The WebServices version was too old.
Now I can connect to the Repository in Test mode.
I get some other error Messages, like "Field Material_Number is not defined at Table Products." and "Repository Data is not available in the requested Language ." which isn' right.
Do you have a clue where this could come from?

Unable to mount MDM repository

hello,
I'm working with MDM console, I'm able to mount the MDM Server successfuly but when I mount a existing repository, the repository appears with a grey padlock and no tables and subtables appear.
Any idea?

Hi,
This happenns when there is version mismatch between MDM Repository and the Client used to mount the repository.
Try to Update the Repository by right clicking on the repository and select Update Repository option.
Also check the version of the Console and the Repository

Unable to connect to MDM repository

Hi ,
I was able to create a new MDM repository by using my DB uid/pwd.The newly created repository appears under the MDM server in a locked state.When I try to connect using my admin uid/pwd,it says "Invlaid login credentials".I am able to login to other repository using the same uid/pwd on the same server.

Hi,
There may be following issues :
1. in corrrect Login/PW: in case you don;t remember the login PW you need to retrieve the PW from Database. Or as suggested try with Admin/blank for MDM 5.5 and Admin/SAPMDM for MDM 7.1.
2. try to unmount and mount the server, then try loggin to the repos.

Link between MDM repository & SQL database

Problem - once i create a MDM repository & rename the repository, SQL database still refers the repository with the old name. How to identify which repository corresponds to which database.

If you look in your underlying database (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2) you'll find an "A2i_xCat_DBs" database / schema. In here you'll find a table called "A2I_CATALOGS". You'll find the link between repositories and database / schema names in this table.

Cost of MDM Repository CONNECT

I have a WebDynpro application which is creating, retrieving, updating and deleting records from/into MDM repository.
I use MDM ABAP API to access the repository. I use IF_MDM_ACCESSOR->CONNECT every time the user tries to retrieve the possible values for each input filed. Then I disconnect (IF_MDM_ACCESSOR->DISCONNECT).
I wonder what is the cost fo connecting and disconnecting from MDM repository? And is it wisdom to connect to MDM one time and fetch all possible values for all possible input fields (which might take a while) in one hit?
Please advise.

Need help on extraction of MDM repository data

I need to take an extract of records from the Customer repository. Total count of the records will be around 25,000 when the filter criteria is applied. As per the requirement I need to select some fields from main table, some from flat look up and few from the qualified look up tables.
What are the possible ways to take the extract?
I am using SAP MDM 5.5. I tried using the export option in Data Manager, but the qualified look up field values did not come properly in the file. The whole qualified look up table values came under a single column. So that exported file is not of much use for my requirement.
Please suggest me some ways.
