Companion CD Installation

I installed Oracle RAC 10g database (10.2.0.1) and upgraded the patch 10.2.0.4....Can we Installed the companion CD after installing the Patch 10.2.0.4....
When we are trying to install my application component it is asking some schemas which will come with companion CD...?
early response is appreciated

It would have been better to install the Companion CD before patching, but you can install the Companion CD after the 10.2.0.4 patch, then re-run the 10.2.0.4 patch to see if it needs to update any additional components.
(this is my personal opinion, and I have done it without problems, but please check the documentation and/or ask Oracle Support to confirm)
The Companion CD does not install any schemas in the database. You will need to install schemas using the scripts and install tools that are in the ORACLE_HOME.

  • Companion CD installation - getting Oracle Database 10g installation

    Hi everyone,
I want to install the Oracle Companion CD (to use HTTP server and HTMLDB) on Solaris with Oracle Database 10g. I downloaded the companion CD and when running the installer I am getting "Welcome to the Oracle Database 10g Installation". I have already installed the database so my question is why the installer is asking me to install another database ? The documentation is explaining that the user would have the choice to select an HTTP server installation.
    Best regards,
    Othman

Get the companion CD from the same place as the database. Start at http://otn.oracle.com, click on Downloads, and to to the Database download
Get the step by step instructions from the documentation. Start at http://tahiti.oracle.com, go to the database documentation for the version you are using, click on the Books tab, search for "Companion CD Installation Guide for [your operating system]" or "Companion CD Quick Installation Guide for [your operating system]" and follow the steps.
I strongly encourage you to install ONLY the HTTP server from the companion CD, and to install it into a separate ORACLE_HOME.
After that, I suggest you use APEX instead of HTMLDB (APEX is the next generation of HTMLDB and is MUCH better.) To get that going, start at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html and look at "Documentation and Tutorials" for the installlation guide.

  • Oracle 10g Companion Product installation

while installing Oracle 10g companion product HTTP server. Does one have to delete the oracle_home variable from the registry ? (as seems like in the instructions.)
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B13693_02/install.htm#BABJGGJH
3.3 Installing Oracle Database 10g Products
You must install Oracle Database 10g Products in an existing Oracle Database 10g release 1 (10.1) Oracle home.
    See Also:
"Products Available in the Oracle Database 10g Products Installation Type"
To install Oracle Database 10g Products, follow these steps:
Log on as a member of the Administrators group to the computer on which to install Oracle components.
If you are installing on a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) or a Backup Domain Controller (BDC), log on as a member of the Domain Administrators group.
Delete the ORACLE_HOME environment variable if it exists.
Refer to your Microsoft online help for more information about deleting environment variables.
    Note:
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable is automatically set in the registry. Manually setting this variable prevents installation.
    "

I have nothing under system variable but there is oracle_home Key in the registry under oracle. Deleting that key would interfere with the oracle database processes?. The HTTP Installation does let me execute mod_plsql process even after setting up DAD in DAD.Conf, as i was able to do in Oracle 9I.

  • Oracle 10g Companion CD installation

I have installed Oracle 10g database rel 10.1.0 on Digital TRU64 Unix. I want to know whether the database should be opened or closed for installing Oracle10g Companion CD. I am intending to install only JVM related stuff.

Listed below is brief installation of oracle JVM

    alter system set "_system_trig_enabled" = false scope=memory;
    alter database open;
    select obj#, name from obj$
    where type#=28 or type#=29 or type#=30 or namespace=32;

The db needs to be up when you are running the above scripts but need to get recycled after installation.
Also JVM can be installed during creation of DBCA.When it comes to the point where it says standard DBA features u can select additional features

  • Error Message when installing Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP Server

Hi. First time forum user so bear with me.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but the assistance of anyone who may be able to shed some light on the problem whould be greatly appreciated. I am having a problem when attempting to install the Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP Server, details given below:
The following Oracle components have been successfully installed
         Oracle 10gR2 Database.
         Oracle 10gR2 Database patch 10.2.03.
         Critical patch up date (security).
The following Oracle component failed to install.
Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP server
    Scenario leading up to failure
Extracted companion CD installation files to D:\oracle\utilities\Oracle_10_2_0_Companion
         Executed D:\oracle\utilities\Oracle_10_2_0_Companion\companion\setup.exe.
The following error message is displayed in a "JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE LAUNCHER" dialog box
"Could not find the main event class. Program will exit."
I have been attmepting to resolve this problem for over a week and have already checked the following with no resolution to the problem:
Cause. This issue may have to do with two issues (and may occur more on Windows):-
    1. Within the ORACLE_HOME directory full pathname there is a space.
    2. The directory from where the software / patch is being installed has a space within the directory full
pathname (where the file for the installation by default is named products.jar or products.xml).
Solution. To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:-
    1. Rename the full pathname directory NOT to contain a space.
    2. Launch again the OUI... and verify if the problem occurs.
Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Can you install using OUI from the RDBMS installation? IIRC, there is a problem using OUI on companion to install companion items.

IF you want the products on that CD.
Those products are described in a very unusual place - Chapter 1 of the "Companion CD Installation Guide for {pick your platform}" document, in the sections titled "Products Available in the {install category}"

I would not install the HTMLDB from the CD. Instead, I highly recommend the Application Express 3.1 which is the replacement.

  • Oracle 10g companion CD install

    hi gurus,
i need to install oracle html db with http server on a server with oracle 10.2.0.3
i have got a companion cd file for 10.2.0.1.
is it possible to use 10.2.0.1 file to install the components on top of 10.2.0.3?
    os version is solaris 5.9
    thanks,

According to Companion CD install guide you should install HTTP Server and HTML DB into separate Oracle Home than your database. To avoid complication.

    hello,
please can someone tell me the difference between Oracle Database 10g Release 2 and the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2 we have on the OTN site for dowload.

please can someone tell me the difference between
Oracle Database 10g Release 2 and the Oracle Database
10g Companion CD Release 2 we have on the OTN site
for dowload.Well, according to the documentation found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3, you use the
"Oracle Database 10g Release 2" CD to install the Oracle Database 10g Release 2,
and you use the "Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2" to install the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 'Companion' stuff.
The comanion stuff, also according to section 1.3 in the "Companion CD Installation Guide" includes
    Oracle JDBC Development Drivers
    Oracle SQLJ
    Oracle Database Examples
    Oracle Text Supplied Knowledge Bases
    Oracle Workflow Server
    Oracle Ultra Search

The second query at the bottom gives ORA-29558. If yes then I donot have the companion cd . Also I have a silly question; what is a companion cd- is it one of those 3 cds.

    Hi Pavan.
Yes I am following the read me document that is available with the patch. This is one of the pre installation task. Below is the excerpt from the read me document
8.1.2 Upgrading Installations that use Java Virtual Machine or Oracle interMedia
If any of the databases use Java Virtual Machine or Oracle interMedia, then install the Oracle Database 10g Products installation type from the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD before installing the 10.2.0.4 patch set. For information about installing the Oracle Database 10g Products installation type from the Companion CD, see the Oracle Database Companion CD Installation Guide for the platform. This installation type includes the Natively Compiled Java Library files to improve Java performance. If you do not install the Natively Compiled Java Library files, the ORA-29558: JAccelerator (NCOMP) not installed error occurs when a database that uses Java Virtual Machine is upgraded to the patch release.
P.S: What is companion cd. I am confused. Is it one of those 3 cds (oracle 10g). Neways I dont have any oracle cd.

  • How to install C/C++ compiler in Solaris 10 (ie gcc)

    HI all,
I have just installed Solaris 10 on my x86 machine. I thought that I installed the C/C++ compilers but when I went to check it turns out that I don't. When I type which gcc or which cc I get gcc not found.
    Am I missing something?
If I need to instal gcc/c how do I do it. I am new to Solaris 10, I don't have rpm installed either apparently. I have found the pkgadd utility? but I don't know the first thing about how to use it. I have picked up a Solaris 9 book from my university library but I just thought that this might be a tad faster.
    Hope you can help.

Correct, the Companion CD installs into /opt/sfwI can confirm this.
Can someone from Sun check this?I'm not from Sun, but...
I just installed the companion cd, and it installs in
/usr/sfw ... not /opt... this cannot be correct. If you install the full Solaris 10
product (the released version), then you do have
    /usr/sfw/bin/gcc, /usr/sfw/bin/gas, /usr/sfw/bin/gmake, ...
If you install the Solaris 10 "Software companion CD" on top
of a full Solaris 10 install, you get more free software installed
    under /opt/sfw, including another gcc3 in /opt/sfw/bin/gcc, a
    gcc2 in /opt/sfw/gcc-2/bin/gcc, ...
The only software in /opt is:
    SUNWits SUNWmlib SUNWspro netbeans
There is no /opt/sfw/bin directory. Then you didn't install the Solaris 10 "Software Comanion CD" !
Perhaps I installed the freeware versions?
    http://sunfreeware.com/index.html
    sunfreeware.com != "Solaris 10 Software companion CD".
When I downloaded the Solaris 10 DVD image, the software
companion CD was an extra optional CD image download
item on Sun's download center web page.

It is assumed you are talking about another 10g Companion disk installation somewhere else, if you have another database release the DAD's format change. I suggest you to copy the entries you plan to use from your current DAD file to the target DAD file instead of copying the whole file.

  • How to install & Configure Work Flow for OWB

    Hi All,
I have installed companion products and now to configure work flow, what schema name should I have to give.
    Can anybody tell me please.
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hi Siva,
If you are going to use workflow only for OWB , then what ever you have done is enough .
Using the Companion CD launch the UI and from the installation options Choose the following option "Oracle Database 10g Companion Product” Installation Type (Install into new Home)
This option will install the HTTP-Server
This option will create the default DAD for workflow
1 In the Middle Tier Configuration screen enter the required parameters
    Workflow Schema: Schema Name
    DB Host: DB Hostname
Port Number: DB Port on Host
    Oracle SID: Database SID
    2. Enter the Password for your oracle Workflow Database Account
    3. This installation should have created the default DAD "/pls/wf" for you. It is required to restart the HTTP Server using the commands
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
Where ORACLE_HOME is the HTTP Server home
    4. Now you can access the Workflow Home Page
    Thanks,
    Sutirtha

Oracle Database 10g Companion CD contains some sample schemas and some add-on products. Details are available in the Companion CD Installation Guide.
Oracle Database 10g Client contains just the client software, which is also included on the full database installation, but would be used on machines (like desktops and app servers) that need to access a database that lives on some other machine.
Oracle Clusterware is about what it sounds like. The software for installing Oracle Clusterware. More info at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/admcon.htm#RACAD1111
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
    <b><i><u>BOOKMARK THIS LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

  • Cannot find documentation for MRCA

Now that the new MRCA tool version 10.1.2.0.3 is available where is the documentation for it? I have only been able to find docs that were last updated in August. I'm going to install in a 10.2.0.1 db and I need the pre-install info.
    Thanks,
    Denise

    Hi Denise,
The information in the August versions of the RepCA guides applies to the
    10.1.2.0.3 version of RepCA:
Oracle® Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant User's Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for UNIX
    B14129-03
Oracle® Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant User's Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for Microsoft Windows
    B14130-03
There are 3 updates/caveats having to do with running 10.1.2.0.3 RepCA on
a 10.2 database. These will be in the January version of the 10.1.2 release
notes which will be posted on OTN soon. In the meantime, I have cut and
    pasted them below.
We are working on a better way to coordinate certification updates with the
    release notes.
    Thanks!
    Beth
3.1.17 Oracle Ultra Search Required (Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.x) only)
If you plan to install the OracleAS Metadata Repository on Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.x), then you must install Oracle Ultra Search on the database.
OracleAS Metadata Repository Creation Assistant checks if your database contains the WKSYS and WKPROXY schema. If your database does not contain them, OracleAS Metadata Repository Creation Assistant displays the following warning:
"The Database does not contain Ultra Search Schemas WKSYS and/or WKPROXY. Please install them and try again. Refer to the Database Install Guide and Ultra Search User Guide for more information."
If your database does not have Oracle Ultra Search installed, you can install it from the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD-ROM. See the Oracle Database Companion CD Installation Guide for details.
After installing Oracle Ultra Search, you need to load the schemas onto the database using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA). Refer to Oracle MetaLink (http://www.metalink.oracle.com) Note.337992.1 for loading Ultra Search schemas.
3.1.18 Patch Required Prior to Running the Metadata Repository Creation Assistant on a 10.2 Real Application Cluster Database
You must install ARU patch 7993184 before running the Metadata Repository Creation Assistant on a 10.2 Real Application Cluster Database. If you do not apply the patch, you will receive an error message during Oracle Ultra Search configuration.
    To apply the patch:
Install the 10.2 Real Application Cluster database.
Create the database using the DBCA or during the installation.
    Stop all Oracle Processes.
Install Oracle Ultra Search in the same Oracle home from the companion CD.
Apply ARU patch 7993184. Go to Oracle MetaLink (http://www.metalink.oracle.com) to obtain the ARU patch.
Invoke the DBCA to configure Oracle Ultra Search.
Run the Metadata Repository Creation Assistant.
3.1.19 Populate DB_DOMAIN Before Running Oracle Metadata Repository Creation Assistant on an Oracle 10.2 Database
The default installation option for Oracle Database 10g (Release 2) 10.2 does not populate the DB_DOMAIN. The OracleAS Metadata Repository Creation Assistant uses the value of DB_DOMAIN to construct the Oracle Application Server farm name as $SID.$DB_DOMAIN. You should ensure that the DB_DOMAIN is populated in the database with a valid value prior to running OracleAS Metadata Repository Creation Assistant. Failure to do will result in the default farm name of REGRESS.RDBMS.DEV.US.ORACLE.COM.

Already, i am having Oracle 10g Release 2 Home in my system(10.2.0.1.0).
I think ,by default oracle companion products is installed
    in ORACLE 10g Release 2.
But this is showing the following error.
    select dbms_java.full_ncomp_enabled from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29558: JAccelerator (NCOMP) not installed. Refer to Install Guide for
    instructions.

    How to resolve this error?

    Mohanakrishnan,
kindly refer the below notes and update the status.
    Reference:
    Metalink Note: 293658.1
    Symptoms
After applying a 10.1 or a 10.2 patchset and running catpatch.sql (10.1) or catupgrd.sql (10.2) the following error is received:
    select dbms_java.full_ncomp_enabled from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29558: JAccelerator (NCOMP) not installed. Refer to Install Guide for
    instructions.
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JAVA", line 236
    Or
if during the running of the utlu102i.sql script you are warned that the JAccelerator (NCOMP) is not installed.
    Cause
The Oracle Companion CD was either not installed or specifically the Natively Compiled Java Libraries (NCOMP) were not installed.
The Installation documentation is not explicit; however, the NCOMPs are optional and the error, ORA-29558 is informational not an actual error.
NCOMPs do not have to be installed and the error can be ignored. The drawback is the potential of slower performance due to javabyte code having to be translated into machine code when used, but has no effect on an upgrade or migration.
The Database Upgrade Assistant (DBUA) and the utility script utlu102i.sql will show that the NCOMPs are not installed but it will not affect the upgrade or migration.
Also, for clarification purposes, an Oracle Application Server 10g, version 10.1.2.0.2 Metadata Repository installation, JAccelerator (NCOMP) is not used for the Oracle Applicaton Server.
    Solution
If you wish to address the informational message (ORA-29558) and install the NCOMPs then follow these steps:
Note: If you have one-off patches on top of a 10.1.0.x or 10.2.0.x patchset they do NOT need to be rollback and reapplied, they can remain.
    1) You will need to install Natively Compiled Java Libraries (NCOMP) from the 10.1 or 10.2 Companion CD depending on your base release, for 10.1 please refer to 10.1 Companion CD Guide for Unix for specific details and for 10.2 refer to your OS platform specific Companion CD Installation Guide
    2) Start up the runInstaller once again and select the 10.1 or 10.2 patchsets products.xml file once again in the "Specify File Locations" screen. The OUI will see the new components installed and only install the 10.1 or 10.2 patches associated to the new products.
    3) Click on 'Install' on the Summary Screen (There should be roughly 29 items that are being installed)
    4) After this then re-run catpatch (10.1) or catupgrd (10.2) once again and this will correct the situation.
Otherwise, the only other way would be to deinstall the software via the OUI and then reinstall 10.1 or 10.2 then install NCOMP via the Companion CD and then install 10.1 or 10.2 patchset depending on your base release version.
