Company information in Interactive Report PDF Header.
Apex 3.1.XX has the amazing feature known as Interactive Reports. These reports have a default pdf they can generate which is also pretty nifty seeing how it doesn't involve any work. The down side is that I cannot find a way to Edit the pdf that is generated by Interactive Report. Does anybody know how to change the header on the reports produced by Interactive Reports? Is there a way to change the default format through BI Publisher?
Ghoulies
Hi
I believe you can change the headers/footers, etc through the Apex interface. The exact path escapes me right now, I did write a coupld of blog articles about the integration that might help.
http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/integration/apex/
What actually going on under the covers is that APEX collects all of the look and feel information and creates an FO object (think v rich html) and then calls Publisher to process it and return the output.

Interactive report – column heading in multiple rows
I am using interactive report. My question to the expert/guru’s is: - How do I change column heading into multiple row with text wrap.
For example:- My column heading is
Is Employee Trained ? -------> (single row display)
I want to make it display like
Is Employee
Trained ? ------> (Multi row display)
SagarHi,
What you could do is, disable the download csv function from IR (Interactive Report Attributes--> Search Bar-- Uncheck Download) and in the region header create a link and redirect it to another page which will have the csv report output.
e.g. <a href="#" onclick="javascript:redirect('f?p=&APP_ID.:3:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.:3::');"" >Download Report </a>
Here I am redirecting the link to Page 3. On Page 3 create a sql report with the same query and make report template to csv. Thanks,

When user select my Red image from the column header link
the filter generates where contact = '%red%' This fails
Is there a way to generate the filter contact like '%red%' without the user having to change it to like.
Is this possible in 4.0?I am assuming Because of the crickets either I am doing my SQL to incorrectly and there is a better way to return get a popup with a changing image into an interactive report

How to customize an interactive report PDF using a BI Publisher template
Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to get an interactive report to work with BI Publisher. I want it so that I can create a custom RTF template with custom headings, and then apply this for the interactive report.
On the front end, when a user runs an interactive report, they are able to hide and show columns, and then click on Actions > Download > PDF. I want this to access the custom template and return a PDF based on this template, and also showing the columns that the user has selected in the interactive report.
I have already created a custom RTF Word Doc in BI Publisher, and have uploaded it into a report query created in Apex. I am not sure though how to apply this report query to an interactive report, or if that’s even what I’m supposed to do to get it to work the way I want it to.
When editing the Report Attributes, under Print Attributes, there is a section called Printing.
Under this, there is a "Print Server Overwrite". I thought this is where you can specify your report query. But I am not sure if I even need a report query because I don't understand why you have a report query that is based on a static query, when in an Interactive Report, the user can hide columns.
I have Apex 4.0.1.00.03 and Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.0d installed.
Thanks,
GageHi Gage,
Custom RTF and XSL-FO templates are currently only supported with classic report regions and report queries, but not with interactive reports. So you would need to create a report query based on the SQL statement you used for your interactive report and then associated your template with that report query. Unfortunately you won't be able to use any of your customizations, filters, or column selections this way. We're planing to support report layouts with interactive reports in the future.

Using XSL-FO for Interactive Report PDF printout
I am using XSL-FO, Apache FOP and use FO Designer to produce a PDF from SQL Based Report (not IR). This is working fine.
How can use the same concept for Interactive Report. I can not see how to make IR to use XSL-FO and Apache FOP.
It looks that IR is only working for BI Publisher. Am I right?Interactive Reports currently only support the built-in default XSL-FO layout, i.e. there are only limited customization options available. Report Queries (see Shared Components) and Classic Reports can either use the default XSL-FO Layout, or can be associated with RTF or XSL-FO based templates. We plan to extend printing support for Interactive Reports in a future version of Oracle Application Express to provide similar features as is currently available for Report Queries and Classic Reports.

We are replacing a bunch of Crystal reports with the new interactive reports. When we download an interactive report to PDF, it automatically puts the page number at the bottom right of every page. However, I'd like it to say "Page 1 of 3", "Page 2 of 3", etc. on the right side of the footer. And I'd also like it to say "Printed on 4/8/2008 at 2:15 pm" on the left side of the footer. This is what we displayed in the footer section on our old Crystal reports. I see the "Page Footer" section under "Print Attributes" for the interactive report, but I can't figure out what I need to enter into the section to make it display as described above. We are using the "Standard" print server (Apache FOP).
DarrinHi Tony,
Thanks for your reply.
I'm using "apex.oraclecorp.com" and have created reports based on RTF and SQL in application shared components. If i use APEX_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL API, i'm able to get the PDF output of my report. Unfortunately, REDIRECT_URL execute STOP ENGINE api internally, which stops the apex engine for any further processing and due to this rest of my plsql logic, dynamic actions, page refresh are not working !

Interactive report PDF download
Hi,
PDF output is not proper when interactive report is having more number of columns. I have a interactive report with 40 columns. I tried to change Page attributes in print attributes tab. But there is no change.
Please tell me what setups to be done for this.
Regards
Mohanhi ,
i think you need to configure BIpublisher to setup inside your server to get the pdf output from apex report.

*what are the step by step events trigger in interactive report*
Hi gurus,
pls explain event by event triggers in interactive report.
points will be rewarded.
Thanks,
Balakrishna.Hi,
Interactive reporting allows the user to participate in retrieving and presenting data at each level during the session. Instead of presenting one extensive and detailed list with cluttered information, with interactive reporting you can create a condensed basic list from which the user can call detailed information by positioning the cursor and entering commands.
Detailed information is presented in secondary lists. A secondary list may either overlay the basic list completely or appear in an additional dialog window on the same screen. The secondary list can itself be interactive again. The basic list is not deleted when secondary list is created.
User can interact with the system by:
u2022 Double clicking or pressing F2
u2022 Selecting menu option
Like classical report, the interactive report is also event driven. Both the action mentioned above trigger events and code is written to handle these events. The events triggered by this action are as follows:
u2022 At line-selection
u2022 At user-command
u2022 Top-of-Page During Line-Selection for Secondary Page Header info
Interactive report consists of one BASIC list and 20 secondary list. Basic list is produced by START-OF-SELECTION event. When the user double clicks on the basic list or chooses the menu option, the secondary list is produced. All the events associated with classical report except end-of-page are applicable only to basic list.
AT LINE-SELECTION event
Double clicking is the way most users navigate through programs. Double clicking on basic list or any secondary list triggers the event AT LINE-SELECTION. SY-LSIND denotes the index of the list currently created. For BASIC list it is always 0. Following piece of code shows how to handle the event.
Start-of-selection.
Write: / u2018this is basic listu2019.
At line-selection.
Write : u2018this is first secondary listu2019.
In this case the output will be displayed on basic list i.e.
This is basic list.
When user double clicks on this line, the event at line-selection gets triggered and secondary list is produced, i.e. This is first secondary list.
You can go back to basic list by clicking on F3 or back icon on the standard tool bar. For this list, the value of sy-lsind will be 1.
HIDE technique
In this case thins are much simpler. Consider the case, wherein you display fields from table sflight in basic list. When user double clicks on any sflight-carrid, you are displaying the detailed information related to that particular carrid on secondary list. Hence there is a need to store the clicked carrid in some variable. So that you can access this carrid for next list. ABAP/4 has facility; a statement called HIDE, which provides the above functionality.
HIDE command temporarily stores the content of clicked field in system area.
Syntax:
HIDE <FIELDS>.
This statement stores the contents of variable <f> in relation to the current output line (system field SY-LINNO) internally in the so-called HIDE area. The variable <f> must not necessarily appear on the current line.
You have to place the HIDE statement always directly after the output statement i.e., WRITE for the variable <f>. As when you hide the variable, control is passed to next record. While writing, WRITE statement takes that record from header and writes it on to the list, but when writing onto your interactive list you will miss out 1st record.
To hide several variables, use chain HIDE statement.
As soon as the user selects a line for which you stored HIDE fields, the system fills the variables in the program with the values stored. A line can be selected.
u2022 By an interactive event.
For each interactive event, the HIDE fields of the line on which the cursor is positioned during the event are filled with the stored values.
The HIDE area is a table, in which the system stores the names and values of all HIDE fields for each list and line number. As soon as they are needed, the system reads the values from the table. (Please try to find the name of this table.)
Sy-lsind indicates the index of the list and can be used to handle all the secondary lists. When the user double clicks on the line or presses F2, sy-lsind is increased by one and this new sy-lsind can be handled. For example:
Write: / u2018this is basic listu2019.
u2022 Will create a basic list.
If sy-lsind = 1.
Write: / u2018this is first secondary listu2019.
Elseif sy-lsind = 2.
Write: / u2018This is second secondary listu2019.
Endif.
When this code is executed,
u2022 Basic list is produced.
u2022 When the user clicks on the basic list, sy-lsind becomes one.
u2022 AT LINE-SELECTION event is triggered.
u2022 Whatever is written under IF Sy-lsind = 1, gets executed.
u2022 Secondary list is produced.
u2022 Again if user clicks on this list, sy-lsind becomes two.
u2022 AT LINE-SELECTION gets triggered.
u2022 Code written under IF Sy-lsind = 2, gets executed.
A sample program for AT LINE-SELECTION.
AT USER-COMMAND
When the user selects the menu item or presses any function key, the event that is triggered is AT USER-COMMAND, and can be handled in the program by writing code for the same. The system variable SY-UCOMM stores the function code for the clicked menu item or for the function key and the same can be checked in the program. Sample code would look like
AT USER-COMMAND.
Case sy-ucomm.
When u2018DISPu2019.
Select * from sflight.
Write sflight-carrid, sflight-connid.
Endselect.
When u2018EXITu2019.
LEAVE.
If GUI status, suppose you have set menu bar for two items and the function code is u2018DISPu2019 and u2018EXITu2019 respectively. If the user clicks the menu item u2018DISPLAYu2019, then function code u2018DISPu2019 is stored in the sy-ucomm and whatever is written under the when u2018DISPu2019, gets executed. This is applicable for EXIT as well.
Sy-lsind for the screen increases when the user clicks the menu item.
Usually you have combination of all the three navigations in your user interface, i.e., you have to create menu bar, assign function code for the function keys and write code to handle all this in addition to handling double clicking.
Things to remember while using all the combinations:
u2022 Sy-lsind increases even if you select menu-item.
u2022 When the user double clicks on particular line, value of sy-ucomm is u2018PICK.
u2022 If you set sy-lsind = 2 for your 4th secondary list, when control is transferred to the 2nd secondary list, all the other lists after 2nd are lost or memory allocated to them is lost.
u2022 Sy-lisel also gives you the value of clicked line but in this case you cannot differentiate between field. To retrieve the exact field, you have to know the field length of each field.
u2022 If you use statement SY-LSIND = 1.
The system reacts to a manipulation of SY-LSIND only at the end of an event, directly before displaying the secondary list. So, if within the processing block, you use statements whose INDEX options access the list with the index SY-LSIND, make sure that you manipulate the SY-LSIND field only after processing these statements. The best way is to have it always at the `as the last statementu2019 of the processing block.

Error opening PDF downloaded from Interactive Report
hi -- I'm getting an error opening a PDF file downloaded from an interactive report.
I've seen on the forum that this could be related to the size of the file, but I've tried
this out on 10-row results (1k files) and it's still an issue.
I save the file to my file system. If I try to open it in Adobe Reader, I get:
File does not begin with '%PDF-'
and
Adobe Reader could not open <filename>.pdf because it is either not a supported
file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email
attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
If I try to open in Internet Explorer, I get:
File does not begin with '%PDF-'
Other users are having the same problem. Download to csv and open in Excel works fine.
Do I need to have special print attributes for this? I didn't think so... I'm just using the defaults
(response header = report settings, content disposition = attachment).
Ideas?
Thanks,
CarolHi,
I'm having the same problem that was described above, and my site does have BI Publisher installed, and it does successfully produce readable pdfs for many reports.
But there are other reports, even reports produced using the Apex Wizard and all defaults, that just keep producing the same Adobe Reader error reported above, ie
"Adobe Reader could not open <filename>.pdf because it is either not a supported
file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email
attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Peter -
Unable to open PDF output (PDF downloaded from Interactive Report--APEX)
Hi,
I'm getting below error while opening a PDF file downloaded from an interactive report (APEX).
Adobe reader cound not open "TEST.pdf"because it is either not supportd file or because the file has been damaged.
Thanks & Regards,
Ramamuni.Steps of pdf Printing of Report from FOP:
1) Download and unzip the following needed files in D:\Apex_fop directory.
2) Open your command prompt .
Change the directory to D:\Apex_fop\cocoon-2.1.11.
Set the Java_Home environment variable as: set JAVA_HOME= C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_21
then type build war
3) After getting the prompt back as D:>Apex_fop>cocoon-2.1.11>
Copy coocon.war file from the folder D:\Apex_fop\cocoon-2.1.11\build\cocoon.
Paste this file into webapps subdirectory in main tomcat directory having path as D:\APEX_FOP\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps.....place it in the top
level of webapps directory.
4) Now just startup tomcat as D:>APEX_FOP>apache-tomcat-6.0.26>bin>startup.bat
The cocoon.war file will automatically uncompressed as directory.
5) To change the port of apache tomcat , edit apache-tomcat-6.0.26\conf\server.xml & change port attribute of Connector element from 8080 to 8181.
Just check whether Tomcat is running or not as http://localhost:8181/
& to check cocoon type http://localhost:8181/cocoon/
6) Now copy fop_post directory & paste it undes new cocoon directory in webapps having path as D:\APEX_FOP\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps
\cocoon.
7) Now you need to do some apex settings as follows:
In APEX, just log in as ADMIN into apex/apex_admin and went to Instance Settings and did the following:
- Print Serverr: Standard Support
- Print Server Protocol: HTTP
- Print Server Host Address:localhost
- Print Server Port: 8181
- Print Server Script: /cocoon/fop_post
In your APEX application, in the Regions section, Click on the Print link next to your report and do the following settings:
- Enable Report Printing: Yes
- Link Label: Print
- Response Header: Report Settings
- View File As: Attachment
- Output Format: PDF
- Report Layout: Default Report Layout
- Print URL: f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R1063230002781575
8) Open up the Report Page and click Print , You will get the pdf report.
I am sure this will help you

Add a logo to the header definition of an Interactive Report
Hi Folks.
Using Apex 3.1 and BI Publisher.
I am enabling an Interactive Report region to output to PDF & Excel.
Has anyone managed to add a logo to the Header/footer definition in the Print Attributes section?
Is it possible? The region definition does not understand simple HTML syntax.
If anyone would let me know if a) They've done it or b) It ain't possible that would be great.
Many thanks.
Dogfighter.Just reading through this thread. So perhaps a few comments might be helpful:
- Interactive report regions do currently not support Report Layouts, you're limited to the built-in generic layout and won't be able to include images
- You can add a button to your interactive report region page which could initiate the download of a report query, when doing this, you would get the result set of your report query not the interactive report region, so even if the queries are the same, you might have different filters applied to your interactive report
- You can in fact include static images in your RTF report layouts using the BI Publisher Desktop Word Plug-In and MS Word, so you can have logos etc in your PDF documents. But report layouts currently only work with report queries and classic report regions
- You can also include dynamic images in your PDF, e.g. based on images stored in a BLOB column, there's currently a character escaping issue causing some trouble with this, which will be fixed in 3.1.1, more on that once 3.1.1 is out (soon)
- the print server overwrite is designed to point to a different print server than the one configured for your APEX instance, not to point to a specific report. So if your instance has BI Publisher configured, but for a specific report you want to do some special rendering using your own code, you can write e.g. a JSP, Servlet, etc that's doing the rendering, and then point yout report to that URL
Hope this helps, we do plan to add support for report layout to interactive report regions in the next full release of Application Express

How to set the column width in the PDF exports of interactive reports ?
Hello,
I have a huge problem with the PDF export for the Interactive reports. I'm using APEX 3.2.
I have to produce a PDF report in landscape format that show 21 columns. My problem is that the columns have a ridiculous short width and that the text inside the columns do not wrap in the columns. So I get things like that :
Date Name
2011 Leina
I should see 2011-08-01 and the name Leinad Jan
I tried several things to format the columns, but none of the them has any effect on the PDF itself.
1) I used HTML code in the report query. It works well with the interactive report, but display the HTML tags in the PDF.
2) I used css to set the width of my columns. It works in the interactive report, but not in the PDF, the column width do not change.
It's like the report do not notice that my page format is Legal 14 x 8.5 (Landscape) and still believe it's 8.5 x 11 (which is "portrait")
Do you have any idea so set the columkn widths in the reports ?
Thank you !
Edited by: leinadjan on Aug 1, 2011 11:15 AMTo "remember" the column widths, add a mouse listener to the table header. Upon mouseReleased(), get the column widths and save them to your file. When the application starts next time, get the stored widths and set them using:
table.getColumn("XXX").setPreferredWidth(...);
By default, your columns are adjustable, but you can use:
table.getTableHeader().setResizingAllowed(true); -
