Compaq 8510p HDMI connection to Plasma - no sound

I'm attempting to connect my Compaq 8510p to my Panasonic Plasma TV via HDMI cable and I'm getting video by no sound. I have rebooted the Laptop with the HDMI cable attached and that doesn't solve the problem.  I have a SoundMAX HD sound card and digital output is turned on.  Anyone have any ideas how to make this work?

After you hook up to the TV, go to Sound in the Control Panel.  You'll need to tell it to output your sound through the HDMI connection rather than your regular speakers through here.  I hope that helps!

  • HDMI connection to Samsung TV - sound works, video doesn't.

I'm using an HDMI cable and the Moshi adaptor to connect my Macbook Pro (2010) to my Samsung TV. The audio works great but I am not getting video. This seems to be the opposite of what others are experiencing. How can I get the video to work, too? All suggestions much appreciated.

What you have is an extended desktop, which means that what you see on the external display is a continuation of the Macbook's display.  You will find that if you move the mouse off the edge of your laptop's screen it will appear on your Samsung TV's screen.  You can also drag windows from one to the other.
At the moment the Macbook's display is the primary display and the TV screen is the secondary display.  You can change this round in System Preferences -> Displays.  When the TV is connected you will see an additional tab - 'Displays' - within which you will see an image of two screens.  The smaller of the two screens in the image has a small bar at the top.  This bar represents the menu bar on the primary display.  Drag this small bar to the top of the larger of the two screens in the image.  This makes the external display, in this case your Samsung TV, the primary display and the menu bar and dock will appear there.  The Macbooks screen then becomes an extension of the TV screen.
You can set both displays to show the same screen by turning mirroring on.  The disadvantage of this is that the TV be at the resolution of the MacBook's screen and you won't be taking full advantage of the native resolution of the Samsung TV - which is probably 1920x1080, otherwise called 1080p.
Kenneth E's suggestion above, to close the lid puts the laptop in what is known as 'clamshell mode'.  This is a valid operating mode but relies on you having an external keyboard and mouse.  Closing the lid puts the MacBook to sleep and you will need to click the mouse or tap a key to wake it up in clamshell mode for the display to appear on the external screen.
So, to sum up, you are in fact getting video (extended desktop) and you're getting sound.  Everything's working as it should.  Hope my explanation clarifies what's going on for you.

I have a iPad and I connect it to my tv through hdmi but would like the sound to come out through the headphone socket, can I make this happen.

Go to System Preferences>Sound>Output  and make sure that you selected the right output. I think if yo use HDMI you might not be abe to select another output.

    Hi Winston,
I have Apple TV on - in the lower right corner of the iTunes - if it is this you mean.
I have also - in system settings - under Sound - marked Apple TV - and AirPlay.
Above this line is a programme called WiFi2HiFi.
    Can it make some disturbances?
Is it supposed to be there or have I faulty installed it myself?

  • Laptop screen goes black when HDMI connected to TV

I have a Thinkpad Edge 431. I've set it up in Control Panel to duplicate both the laptop and the external monitor when connected by HDMI. It works fine.
When I connect it to my TV, the laptop screen black. The TV displays "No Signal" until the HDMI connection is made. When the laptop screen goes black, so does the TV screen. No sound or picture.
This was working fine until recently, and I can't figure out if I somehow changed settings to make this happen. It's clear that to me that the HDMI port on the laptop works, as does the cable.
The TV port works (I've switched the connection on the cable box to each HDMI port on the TV, to make sure they work).
I can't change anything in Control Panel when I connect the HDMI, because the screen is black.
    I've updated the Lenovo system.
The other relevant piece of info: the Intel Graphics Card control panel says that Monitor/TV Settings are not supported (although until recently, I could easily display the computer on the TV).
Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

No video and audio signals to the tv connected

  • My Thunderbolt to HDMI connection isn't working anymore.

I've had my MacBook Pro for about a year now (2.4 GHz i5), and I've been using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to connect to my Sharp 32" LCD with no problems since I bought it...until this week when I updated all my software/OS.  Now, I can connect, the displays prefs see the monitor, but all I get is black.  No sound either...even though the sound prefs recognize the HDMI connection.
I know the problem isn't the cable.  It used to work, and it still actually connects this same laptop to my projector...but it won't display on my TV anymore. I even get sound on my projector.  It works like my TV used to.  The problem started with the update, so I want to know what changed...and when Apple plans on fixing it.  These are not cheap computers...I am kind of embarassed that I have to use my gf's $350 Acer to play Netflix on our TV when I have this multimedia monster gathering dust.
This problem is extremely frustrating, and I've been doing some research on it.  It seems like quite the problem for a lot of people!  There are multiple unresolved discussions on here about it (some of them over 40 pages long!) and I can't really believe Apple isn't dealing with this.  It's been years now since this started happening, I guess.
We're mac users...we need multiple displays, and we need this stuff to keep working when we update!  That's why we've made Apple into the richest corporation in the world.  Step up superstars...fix this!
Again (just to be clear) I know the problem isn't the cable, so don't tell me to go get a different one, or that it's the issue.  Me and my gf basically wore out Netflix with this very laptop and cable up until this week, and I've never had an issue with it..ever, until this update (to OS 10.7.5).  Everything is in good shape, and if the laptop/computer is still feeding to my projector just fine...there's something else going on here, and I think a lot of people would love to know what it is.  I am not the only person this is happening to, and it's been years since people have been begging Apple to fix this!
I hope that Apple looks into this and puts these discussions to rest.  There are a lot of them!  Do a search!  The "More Like This" box on the right here is FULL of very similar UNRESOLVED discussions.  This should be a priority.  You've all made enough money off us...now make your stuff work like it's supposed to and close these threads!

No, I am a media professional who uses his MacBook Pro to connect to external monitors, and needs to continue to do so.  I don't want Apple TV.  I want my laptop to work again, like it's supposed to.  Like it used to.
I have a demonstration this week at work that requires me to plug into an LCD screen and I am hoping to have this resolved by then.  I am trying to convince my department to buy a Retina Mac and thousands of dollars worth of video software for live shows, and if I can't make it work, then I can't exactly convince them (or myself) to buy what I have been researching.
Again, I don't want wireless video or Apple TV.  I don't want to buy any more stuff.  I want to know why my Thunderbolt to HDMI cable stopped working after my update, and how to fix it...preferably before this meeting.

  • MacBook Pro does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone?

My MacBook Pro (newest model in 2013 so far) does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone else who has this issue? I returned my multiple HDMI adapters after figuring out it had to be an Apple issue n not the adapters so I can't check it myself now.
    Thanks!

I have late 2012 MBP 13" and connect to my Panasonic Plasma correctly.

  • Connect apple tv to stereo without optical or hdmi connection

Is there any way to connect apple tv to old model stereo amp without optical or hdmi connection inputs? Right now can only have itunes through tv speakers. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

    Newer MBPs have HDMI ports.
What ATV generation do you have? What MBP do you have (year/model)? ATVs support Airplay, so using the ATV as an Airplay sink and MBP as Airplay client is still possible.
There are display port-ot-HDMI adapters as well.
Alley_Cat has covered iTunes DRM content, but you can still play non-DRM content via Airplay and HDMI/Component (depending on ATV model).
MBPs  usually have a combo analog/Digital Optical connection that can be hooked up to  a stereo for sound.

  • IMovie editing slow while MBP connected to Plasma Screen

Am newbie to MBP and iMovie
I am using the MBP connected to the 42 inch Plasma screen. I am getting frequent and prolonged spinning ball while editing in iMovie.
The raw DV footage is stored on Glyph EHD connected to MBP by FireWire 800 cable.
Is the slow functionality and frequent appearance of spinning ball due to connection to Plasma screen ? Is it because the MBP is slowly accumulating more and more footage while building the movie project in iMovie on the MBP hard drive ?
There should be no accumulation of DV files on the MBP hard drive until which time as I decide to burn the movie. Yes, No ?
What sort of interface or accelorator is available for install between MBP and Plasma to overcome this problem since this is a great way to edit.
    Thanks

That's not good. Were you barefoot and on a concrete floor? Or touching something else with the hand that wasn't touching the Mac?
It sounds like there could be mis-wiring in the walls...like a crisscross of neutral and ground. You might invest in one of those inexpensive house wiring detectors that they sell at hardware stores and see if it shows a fault when plugged into the same outlet where the TV plugs in.

  • G60-230US Laptop - HDMI cable does not provide sound output only video

HDMI cable does not provide sound output only video. I have the following device adapter - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chip Set Family, and two sound, video, game controllers - Coexant High Definition  Smartadudio 221 and Intel (R) HIgh Definition Audio HDMI.  I do not see any option but "Speakers" on the Sound "playback" tab.  Not sure what to do to fix

  • Sony RPLCD TV not accepting HDMI connection from AppleTV

I have a rear projection LCD Sony KDF-55wf655 TV and have had it for years. I had my ATV hooked up to the TV through an HDMI switch in my AV closet. All was good, everything worked perfectly. I then decided to move my components out of the closet and under the TV. So now I have everything connected, just close to the TV. I cannot get the Sony TV to display the output from the ATV over HDMI. I connect the ATV via component and it works great. I take the ATV upstairs to my plasma and HDMI works great. I tried resetting the ATV to factory settings, didn't work. I tried resetting the Sony TV, didn't work. I tried unplugging and replugging everything in every order, didn't work. I'm not sure what else to do, but it seems it's something in the Sony TV not allowing the HDMI connection now...but why? What can I try? I'm desperate.

Anyone have any ideas I can try? Still would love to get HDMI working from my appletv on this one set. My Panasonic plasma has no issues playing HDMI from my ATV.

  • Cable TV is connected to BOSE external sound, but Netflix sound is coming thru TV (47TL515)

Hi there --  our cable tv is set up no problem with the BOSE which provides much preferred sound for our TV viewing. However, when we connected to Netflix, the sound switched over to the physical TV and it sounds awful. Looked to choose the audio, but it wasn't a highlighted option (meaning we couldn;t choose anything but the TV).  Thoughts?  Thank you very much -

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

  • Component vs. HDMI Connection -- General Comments

I have two ATVs. One is connected via component cables, and the other via HDMI. The ATV that is connected via component works flawlessly, and has never even required a re-boot, other than to update software.
My HDMI connected unit experiences all sorts of problems, and requires a re-boot every third or fourth time that I use it. It is connected to a Toshiba LCD, but I had the same problems when I had it connected to a Panasonic plasma.
I have experimented a little, and on a few occassions I have left the LCD powered on after I'm done using the ATV. I keep this unit in my home gym, so the TV only really gets used when I am working out. When I go back the next day, the ATV will always work flawlessly. When I actually turn the TV off after my workouts, I notice that there is nearly always a problem with the ATV that requires a reboot.
Does the ATV autodetect via HDMI that my TV is off and go into some sort of sleep mode?
Any advice regarding ATV and HDMI would be appreciated. I'd rather not go back to component cables unless I absolutely have to....

Does the ATV autodetect via HDMI that my TV is off and go into some sort of sleep mode?
    It should do.
HDMI/HDCP is not what it should be and you may receive differing results from different tv's. Up to the latest software, my tv's would reset infrequently with our LG tv's and reasonably frequently with our Samsung. I have recently replaced our last component only tv and now have a Sharp. None of our tv's have reset themselves since we updated to software v 2.3
