Compaq Armarda and PCMCIA

Installing Solaris 8.0 onto a Armarda Laptop with PCMCIA, it cannot locate a resource for the PCMCIA devices, could this be the type of Network cards I am using. 3COM ?. Or am I missing configuration options.
Thanks
JB.
P.S. There are other issues with Video Drivers not detecting the S3 virge on this M/C. But I would imagine that is easy to get round.

Hi again Van
Is anything showing up in the Plug-In console to indicate how far through the loading process things are going?
Also, is the problem occuring with any Plug-in applet, or just the particular one you mention.
You could also try some of the applets at http://www.agmodel.net/MetBroker (all Swing-based and Plug-in requiring) to see if the problem is related to a one particular applet or the Compaq setup in general.
Is there any difference in the amount of memory between the machines?
I guess you've tried all these kind of things, I'm just clutching at straws here.

Matthew

We don't have any other pictures available than the ones on the online datasheets. Is there something specific you want to know about a feature of this hardware?
I not, that maybe someone on the forum, that has the hardware available, can take a digital picture of it.

  • Compaq machines and Java Plug-in 1.2.2

We have installed the Java Plug-In v1.2.2 on an IBM, Dell, and Compaq machines. The os on all 3 machines is Windows 2000. Our Java applet runs fine on the IBM and Dell machines. The applet does not run at all on the Compaq machine, even though it has the same Windows 2000 image as the other machines. Instead of getting the 'Loading Java Applet...' gray box on the Compaq machine, we get a white window where nothing happens.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? I'm not trying to make Compaq look bad, but it seems to be consistent (we've tried this on several Compaq machines). What can I check/change? It looks like the applet is not even getting loaded at all.

  • PowerBook G3 (PDQ) - Startup disk and PCMCIA slot problem

    Hello
I have encountered a problem with my powerbook G3 (PDQ model)
Once when I had to configure my microphone, I saw that there was "Zoomed video" present in the list of audio inputs.
I thought this was a glitch, and inserted my SD card reader into the lower PCMCIA slot. Then my display got messed up.
The slot insertion doesn't seem to work right too, it resists much more than the top slot does.
It didn't react to anything except Fn-Shift-Ctrl-Power, which is Reset.
It happens in both OS9 and 10.2.
    Photo: http://instagr.am/p/NtWNH/
Once I was able to insert it right so it wouldn't mess up, and i used the reader in the lower slot as usual.
When I ejected it, the card didn't pop out as usual and it was hard to pull out, and the screen was messed up as well.
The second problem is that when I start the "Startup Disk" control panel in OS9, the PowerBook hangs for no particular reason, also reacting to Reset only.
Maybe there is a bootloader I can install so I'd choose the OS I want before actually booting anything?
Could these problems be related to each other, or a dead battery? Maybe to the incorrectly set clock (however doesn't seem so)? Or related to using an Apple DVD drive?
    Thanks,
    ~ Vladislav Korotnev

No it hasn't. What kind of battery does it use?
The power battery is dead as well (not charging nor powering the pb)

  • PowerBook 1400 and PCMCIA Ethernet card

I have some problems to find out list of supported PCMCIA Ethernet cards by MacOS 7 (B1-7.5.3) on PowerBook 1400. I would be very please to receive driver for 3Com OfficeConnect 572B what I own. Is it available?
    regards,

    Hi,
A quick Google search indicates that 3Com XJAEM3336 Mac drivers were available for at least some PowerBook computers. However, it is unclear to me whether the files here are needed, appropriate or sufficient in your case. Perhaps you could look further into this.
If you cannot locate a suitable Ethernet PC Card with Mac drivers, another solution could possibly be to use a 16-bit wireless card (typically, 802.11b speed and WEP security). See, for example, this web page.

  • /etc/rc.conf, /etc/conf.d/ and PCMCIA? [FXx]

Some time ago the below scripts were included in /etc/rc.conf and removed. PCMCIA was moved to folder /etc/conf.d/. Does /etc/conf.d/ still has a purpose?
    # Load any configuration settings in /etc/conf.d
    for cfg in /etc/conf.d/*; do
    [ -r $cfg ] && source $cfg
    done
    # PCMCIA
    # Should be either i82365 or tcic
    PCIC=i82365
    PCIC_OPTS=
    CORE_OPTS=
    CARDMGR_OPTS=
    SCHEME=

The script /etc/rc.d/pcmcia itself does now the "sourcing" of /etc/conf.d/pcmcia

  • Compaq 6820s and Windows 7

    Hey,
I got a x86 Windows 7 Professional license - the final release version (it has been released already for MSDN subscribers) and I was wondering whether I could update the Vista Bussiness which are on the Compaq 6820s (I mainly want to clean it, so clean install.) - I noticed this model is not on the "Win7 beta list" so I wonder whether there has been an update there or some issues I should check (if anybody tried) or whether unsupported.
    Thanks.

Nonono, worse a bit - let me clearly explain (yes I'm an expert there :/ ), I got a little update to the situation:
When I shut it down and then manually power up there are no problems. Now when I let it restart what happens is this:
When I had still the installation DVD in mechanics and allowed to boot from it, the BIOS would power up, went to screen "Press a key to boot from DVD" and when I didn't press a thing to let it boot Win7 it would shut off. When I finally put the DVD out of it, it would power the Win7 but after 5 - 10 seconds it would instantly turn off. However the next time when I power it up manually it boots up without problems (the Win7 attempt to repair, which showed on this boot, didn't help). Prior to the Win7 install I updated the BIOS from the driver download page (but Vista restarted fine then).

  • Error code 10007 with biobench 1.2 and PCMCIA DAQ-1200

Trying to use Biobench 1.2 in conjunction with a PCMCIA 1200 DAQ card. Like previously reported this becomes a problem when trying to record from more than one analogue input. However, I don't understand the previusly documented solution: how in biobench do you ammend the scan order of the channels to overcome this problem.

    Greetings,
To amend the scan order, you should do the following:
Navigate to Configure >> Settings. On the Timing tab, select channels 6, 4, 2, and 0 from the Scan List. Then, on the main screen, modify the displayed graphs so that channel 6 is the topmost, followed by channel 4, channel 2, and finally channel 0 on the bottom. You can change which channel is associated with a particular graph by pressing the down-arrow in the upper left-hand corner. The scan order should now be appropriate for your PCMCIA-1200.
    Good luck with your application.

  • Is there a difference between the workings of PCI-GPIB and PCMCIA-GPIB?

I wrote an application in LV 7.1 to acquire data from a counter-based laser interferometer system. This application works well (acquires data as expected) when using my laptop (OS WinXP with PCMCIA GPIB card), but does not when using a desktop with a PCI-GPIB card. Both cards are from NI. Both are installed properly. Both see my instrument through address 9 as I expect. I run the same program, but not able to acquire data with the desktop which, again, is equipped with the PCI-GPIB card. Anyone has run into this sort of problem? Everything appears the same, so you would think that my application would work on both computers, but for some reason it does not. Appreciate your help. Thansk much in advan
    ce for your feedback.
    Otman

    Dear Otman,
You may want to check the 488.2 driver versions on your machines; you should be able to use version 2.1 on both. Answers to the following questions may help in offering further suggestions:
    1. Do you get an error message when you run the program on your desktop computer? If so, what error?
    2. Were you able to verify in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) that your PCI-GPIB board is properly recognized and can communicate with your instrument?
    3. Are you using VISA functions or GPIB specific functions?
    4. If you are using VISA, what version of NI-VISA are you using? (see note below)
    5. What version of NI-488.2 are you using? (see note below)
Note: You can view your versions of NI-488.2 and NI-VISA in MAX as follows:
    1. Launch MA
X (You can use Start -> Programs -> National Instruments -> Measurement and Automation)
    2. Click the Software tab
    3. Click on NI-488.2 and observe the version number in the center form.
    4. Click on NI-VISA and observe the version number in the center form.

  • Audigy 2NX USB and PCMCIA 2ZS compatibil

Currently I use an Audigy 2NX USB with my laptop. I will install the Audigy PCMCIA notebook card on the same laptop. With the USB 2NX, when it is powered off, the laptop automatically configures itself to use the internal (motherboard) sound card.
() My understand is that with the 2ZS PCMCIA card, you need to physically remove the card (e.g. "Safely Remove Hardware") to revert to the internal sound-card speakers. Is that correct?
    (2) PCMCIA 2ZS comes with the Smart Recorder application. Can that application be also be used with the USB 2NX card enabled (and with the PCMCIA card removed) ?

I have an Audigy 2 NX myself, and I found it works best off of a direct root usb port (not off a hub). The problem is that on most computers 2 USB ports share hub. Which is why you are having that comflict.
My conflict doesn't happen there, it was on the mouse at first, now it's on an external IDE Adapter i'm using.
All I do is unplug the IDE adaptor when it stops working, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in.
So what I suggest is to do like I did, and switch what ports things are plugged into until it's something that can plug & unplug with no real issues.
Why this happens, in opinion, is that there just isn't enough power getting to all the usb ports when there's alot of stuff plugged into them. My limit seems to be 7 items, even though most of them are lower power stuff, mouse, joysticks. I do have a 3.5" hd in a case, which is self powered, and the ide adaptor which is self powered, and the audigy 2 nx, which is, as you know, self powered. I can plug another item in, but anymore after that will knock my ide adaptor. and i still have usb ports i'm not even using. oh, the joysticks are on a hub which is where I usually plug another item in, either my mp3 player or thumbdri've.
I think it most likely an electric problem, and that it only affects people with faulty usb componets or something. I haven't heard of it being widespread or specific chipset/usb controller problem. Can't think of anything else it could be, but i'm not an electrition.
Sorry i could be of much help, but maybe you can at least make it less of a bother to deal with.
    good luck

  • Dhcp and pcmcia NIC startup (SOLVED)

    Hello;
I'm pretty impressed with Arch up to now, but am having a problem with the pcmcia NIC. I'm sure it's some simple config problem, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I'm using a Network Everywhere NP100, which uses the axnet driver. No problems there. I have it set as eth0="dhcp".
It works fine, but when I restart the box, or start up from a cold start, dhcp isn't assigning an IP, and during boot, network fails on start. After the box is up and running, I have to remove the card from the slot and reinsert it to get dhcp to assign an IP.
I haven't seen this problem with other distros, so I know it can be fixed, not not sure how. Below is my rc.conf, maybe somebody can spot something I'm missing?

    # End of file
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    # When you boot the machine the first time it is just fine?
No it has this problem every time the machine is started.
    # Do you really have to remove the card from the slot, isn't 'cardctl eject' enough?
Removing and reinserting the card is faster than typing out a command so that's what I do.
    # Does it work with static IP?
Don't know, router is set up as DHCP and haven't tried changing it to static. As it's a mobile machine, I'd prefer it works using dhcp.
    # Does your machine own another nic, so the race who will become eth0 could be won by an ethernet card?
No, I just have the one NIC at the moment. I have a wireless pcmcia NIC as well, but haven't installed/configured it yet as I don't use it much and would like to solve this ethernet problem first.
#By the way, which kernel modules own the axnet drivers?I can't see any matching module in rc.conf's modules section, and you have hotplug disabled.
It's owned by pcmcia, which loads the module itself when the card is detected. This is working perfectly and the driver modules loads no problem. As far as I can tell the problem seems to be with the network daemon itself, but I could be mistaken about this.
I disabled hotplug for the moment while I try to figure this out. At first I thought hotplug was the culprit but even with it disabled the problem remains. I just haven't bothered to re-enable hotplug as I already have all the modules loading through rc.conf anyway and it speeds up booting.
Hope the additional info may help figure this out. I'm stumped.

you need to enable monitor option for your card. Either recompile card driver with monitor option enabled or check if kernel has monitor option for your card, enable it and recompile kernel. Monitor setting is not enabled by default for any wireless card.

  • Solaris 8 and PCMCIA on Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT

I am having problems with my pcmcia services with X86 on my Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT laptop. It will not recognize the network card(s) or any PCMCIA cards for that matter. Do I need to load a specific driver or turn on the PCMCIA service or something to that affect for the PCMCIA slot to work? I have heard that the Toshiba laptop is the most supported laptop model for X86. Could anyone give me some advice or point me to the right website or news group. Please reply or contact me directly at [email protected] Much appreciation!

I believe that PCMCIA is broken in Solaris 8.
I can't seem to get networking to work on my Dell either.
