Compaq CQ-61-400so Broken sound chip?

Hello Dear Hp Team.
I would prefer being called Mutt because of security reasons.
I own an Compaq Presario cq61-400so
and i tried to fix my Broken usb port on the right side of the machine.
I accidently touched the motherboard metal and a part of the usb port
it resulted in a spark and i stopped from that point.
It seems now that i burned down the soundchip
The pc shows that its connected but i don't get sound.
the drivers ARE installed! I use an original copy of windows 7 which came on the recovery drive
I hope that i don't have to buy an new motherboard
and does the warranty still count?
i don't think so
Thanks if you can help.

I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

  • My compaq pres v5000 says no sound device installed

My compaq presario v5000 has no sound and no amount of drivers or fixes 've found here work. Is there a scan you can do to see if my sound card is buggered?

Did you follow through both documents from start to finish? If you have and it does not resolve the issue, you can consider a factory restore. If that fails you may have hardware failure.

  • The sound chip dosen't work, i need to repair...

i have an 4s iphone, and the sound chip dosen't work, i need to repair...
is it possible a solution? If I leave it in the apple store, can they resolve the problem?

If you have not done so already, try the usual steps: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then sync back your apps and content. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, that should cure it.
If none of that helps, your device may have developed a hardware fault and will need to be take or sent to Apple. They will replace the iPhone; they do not repair yours.
    Regards.

My apple macbook pro retina 15'' ME664 has problems with sound.Either there will be no sound at all or at startup there il be very scary and broken sound and afterwards still there would be no sound.Secondly , it does not start in one shot.atleast 2 to 3 times pressing power button for longer time starts it up and afterwards still there will be no sound. Please help

This morning i was not able to hear sound on my recently purchased  macbookpro retina 15 inch model. My attempts to resolve this issue by going to system preferences and removing the mute box that was ticked as active. i had downloaded much earlier a mac version of logmein app and noticed that in the sound  box noted above that there was a bar indicating that the default was now to logmein. i had never used this app. Why it started today, i have no idea. I moved the logmein application to trash and deleted the app , however it did not remove the default option which still blocked the sound.
Going to a macforum gave the tha anser that to remove the logmein app, it first had to be reinstalled a nd them use the uninstaller option ftrom the dropdown menu. for now that has resolved the failure to allow sound oputput.

  • Equium-A100-147 - broken sound and video

    Hi everyone,
I have the Equium A100-147, Its been working fine for last couple of year.
But in the last few weeks has get problem in sound and video (broken sound and video).
The sound is breaking and sometimes uable to listen + video breaking and so much delay due to its get so slow with so much sound distorsion etc..
This remains after new installation (format HDD) of Wind XP unable to fix even installed new drivers.
The Device Manager shows all drivers including audio and video working ok, d'nt know what's problem please help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Something like that can happen during high HDD activity this means that the reading/writing process could affect the sound/video playback
But usually this should not take long time
At the other hand this can happen because of higher temperature
High temperature can affect the CPU and GPU performance
I think you have used this notebook for couple of month without any troubles in my opinion you should check if cooling modules and fans are clogged and could remove the dust and debris from cooling modules use compressed air spray this helps p get rid of dust
Maybe then the notebook will run much better

  • What sound card (or onboard sound chip) is used on the Mac Pro?

What sound card is used or onboard sound chip?
    is the sound quality great/good/ok/bad?

The only info I found is: "RealTek - Intel High Definition Audio (Internal)"
I will look on the web for more info.
Why are you looking for this info? There are not drivers for the Mac and if you plan to use Bootcamp, it comes with all the drivers needed.
The sound definition is very good, think of all the people who use Mac's in the music world with GarageBand or Logicpro etc...

  • Tv card or sound chip the cause of static noise?

My system has an MSI KT6V mainboard with an integrated AC97 soundchip. I
also have a Hercules Smart TV mono tv tuner card, which audio output is
connected into the line in jack of the mainboard. Every time, when I've
started my system and the machine has been running for a while (appr. ½
hours), a distinguishable static noise starts to hear from my loudspeakers.
I've noticed that if you mute the line in, the static is muted. Also if you
start up the tv viewing program, the static noise stops for good and will
not return as long as you keep your system running.
Now, is there something wrong with my tv tuner card, which causes "leak"
into the line in or what? I've looked for newer drivers for my tuner but
without success. At least Hercules doesn't provide any newer drivers for
this card. I've updated my sound chip drivers but that has not helped. I've
also tried a different cable between the cards. The funny thing is that I
don't recall this kind of behavior to have occured in my former system that
had a separate Hercules Muse LT sound card.
Should I try to get a hold of a sound card or should I just ditch the tuner
card and get an s-video connector box, since I really do not have any use
for the tuner. I just use the card to connect external video sources.
However, if there is any solution to rectify the problem without making
changes into my system, I would be grateful.

    I'll make a collective reply.
osnavi: My system is pretty stable temperature-wise. Well below 60 degrees celsius.
Fredrik: I've tried couple of PCI slots, at the moment the card is as furthest away as possible from the audio connectors. The system is attached to a grounded AC jack. My system is WinXP home SP2.
Stu: The card doesn't have FM radio. When looking from Hercules support pages, it seemed that newer drivers are (finally) available. Have to try those out. I'll report how it succeeded.

  • Need Help Determining Which Sound Chip Is On New Motherboard

I have a Toshiba M45-S331 that had a damaged motherboard, and I couldn't find the exact replacement MB at a reasonable cost, so I substituted a #V000051700 MB. After reassembling the laptop, everything works great except I get no sound. I'm hoping that the issue is that the replacement motherboard has a different sound chip, so a different driver would be required, but I'm having difficulty finding out which chip is integrated in the MB, and therefore which drivers will work. Is there a way to get the appropriate spec's on the motherboard? There were some sub-numbers on the MB - 6050A0067901, if that helps.
After further research, I found out that the new motherboard came out of a Toshiba M45-S3553, which has the same drivers as the original M45-S331, so the problem must be something other than the sound drivers. It may be the sound chip is bad. Any other ideas?

The RAM is pretty minimal in that machine, but it will run OS 9. In my experience eBay is problematic for OS purchases unless you know exactly what you are doing. Never buy "Restore" disks unless it is for your exact machine. (Keep OS X away from your iMac until you determine that it has the 4.1.9 firmware update!)
Apple Rescue, here, is one of the better places to get OS disks. OS 9.2.1 would be my recomendation.
Put a little more RAM in that iMac, and I think you'll find the Mac an enjoyable experience, and ... welcome to the "Apple Orchard" where there are no viruses, no spyware, and no blue screens of death.

  • Broken bios chips

I had two new boards (ms-6330) k7tpro2-a  do the same one as one guy stated on this talk site. all comps working fine for about 2 months and the other about 11 months. I think that msi is hidding a bios chip problem. I make computers for customers and am an isp administrator. I think I will have a hard time on recommending their product.
Has anyone found a solution for this problem? As stated from another writer, board are working fine reboot and dead no post no nothing, forget the power issue all work fine, cpu in other boards work fine.
Two boards both with the exact same problem. Does anyone have a solution cause I can't flash a broken bios chip.
should i buy two new bios chips??? And i hope that these would not be faulty also, signed really discouraged!!!!

    Hi..
I dont know about u, but i used this board for around 2 years until the kb port burned out.. I heard some rumers that there was a consignment of mb's that were shipped with defective capasitors by acsedent... But it was a long time ago.. I dont know how true this is though

  • Built-in NVIDIA sound chip doesn't play with ALSA

I have a motherboard that has a built-in sound card. It's made by NVIDIA, the lspci line for it is below.
00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] High Definition Audio (rev a1)
When I run alsaconf, it finds the card and it thinks everything works. When it ends, I don't even get an error message. If I try to run alsamixer, it spits this out:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
However, all the sound modules are loaded! lsmod | grep snd shows this:
    snd_hda_intel 370736 0
    snd_seq_oss 31872 0
    snd_seq_midi_event 8192 1 snd_seq_oss

The *weirdest* part about this is on my first boot, it didn't work at all and I didn't even try to get it to work yet. I installed X it worked, I rebooted for something completely unrelated. I booted and sound magically worked! Not complaining, I was listening to music but then I rebooted for another non-sound-related issue, and now the sound is broken again. I can't figure this out at all! Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I found out that I need the module "snd-hda-intel" -- I think. But it doesn't seem to be on my system despite documentation saying it's still available in 2.6.27. Do I really need to recompile my kernel just for this one module? I'd really prefer not to  have to deal with that. If I do "modprobe snd-" and press tab twice, it shows me this list of modules:

    Nothing "hda" related.
UPDATE: According to this and alsaconf (I checked /etc/modprobe.d/sound) I *do* need the "snd-hda-intel" module. I'm running the standard arch kernel from pacman, do I really have to recompile my kernel...?
UPDATE: Turns out I do have the module I need. I don't know why it didn't show up. In other news, I get a new dmesg error!
    hda-intel: no codecs initialized
So, it seems like I need to load snd_hda_codec... but that was "merged" with snd_hda_intel back around 2.6.23. Any ideas?

  • Broken piece chipped off of MacBook!

    Hi,
I've had my MacBook for about 3 months now and it's the 3rd Mac I've owned. I've never really had a problem like this before so I'm just not sure what to do. I was simply typing an e-mail and apiece of the plastic (I assume that's plastic...) broke off on the very edge of my MacBook. It's just an edge piece about an inch and a half long where the top plastic piece meets the side and the edge of the computer. It's quite hideously noticeable. I'm not sure how I go about getting this fixed and I honestly have no clue how it happened or what caused it to happen. The nearest Apple store is quite a long way away (I'm willing to drive there in a week or so.) but is that where I would take it for a problem like this? And will I have to pay for this even though I have no clue why on earth it happened? It's a decent sized chip out of the front edge of my MacBook!
Sorry if I'm clueless... I just don't even know what you do with a problem like this and I'm somewhat worried it's going to cost a lot to repair... Any advice of any kind?
    Thanks.

Polo - this problem has been mentioned several times on this forum. If you search "chipped or broken cases", you should find some threads. I was waiting for Leopard to be released to buy my MacBook, but when I read about this issue, I decided not to plunk down my hard earned cash. I've read that if the MB is under warranty or extended Apple care, they will replace the broken case. Good luck with that.

  • COMPAQ 6720S XP 64 BIT SOUND DRIVERS

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a 64 bit sound card driver for the above!!
    Thanks
    Nick

Did you first install the UAA driver from the same section? Check in Device Manager under System Devices to see if MS UAA installed properly.
There should be a listing for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.
If not,you should have a PCI with yellow!.Right click it and Update Driver,No to Connect,No to Search and last Install Automatically.
    Reboot to check status.
If no joy try this DRIVER
