Compaq CQ 68 , AMD Processor. Upgrade prer to windows 10 from windows 8.1. 6G RAM 50G HDD Free

Mindful of the awful cockup that was the windows 8.1 upgrade years back  ( Leaving CQ58 users with no WIFI for 2 months until HP eventually brings out a new BIOS version to fix the problem)  I need to get a checklist off HP before I attempt to upgrade this rig to Windows 10. 1. What is the MINIMUM BIOS version that will support Windows 10 and not break any of Networking Sound Video or USB2. What is the RECOMMENDED  BIOS version that will support Windows 10 if different to above.3. Can I have a link to download that BIOS verion from HP. 4. IF No recommended BIOS exists at present how long do we CQ58 owners have to wait until HP tests and releases one before we attempt an upgrade??? TIA

Bios will not help, more important is if there are hardware Drivers for Windows 10, all you can do is try the upgrade and see if W10 can install proper drivers, after W10 is installed Windows update will look for more if needed.

  • Laptop AMD Processor upgrade

Product information:  HP Pavilion DV2615nr running Win Vista 32-bit, 1GB RAM, AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-58 (1.9GHz, socket S1, power wattage 31W). Speccy indicates laptop has a Wistron 30D6 motherboard (socket A).
I want to upgrade this slow system with a faster processor, more RAM and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (or even downgrade to Win XP Pro 64-bit, at least for the short term)
I'm currently looking into adding RAM to a total of 4 GB.
I would appreciate some information in regards to the right processor I can upgrade to.  At this time I'm thinking to upgrade to a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-68, which runs at 2.4GHz, although the wattage is different, 35 watts, whereas the current TL-58 specification is 31 watts, and both processors are 65nm SOI process technology.
Can someone indicate if I'm in the right track in choosing a compatible processor (the TL-68)?  Also, is there a better processor that I can successfully upgrade to, other that the TL-68?  I've heard that not all socket S1 processors will run on the same socket even if they physically fit in the socket, hence I'm a bit confused as to which processor to go to.
    Thanks.

    Hi.
I also have the same question regarding my HP laptop.
I want to know if I can upgrade my CPU on my HP laptop
CPU :  AMD A6-4455M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics  (2 Cores)
My laptop is an HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 15
    Product number: E5D85UA#ABA
    Can you help with this?
    Thank you!

  • AMD Processor upgrade

    Hi.
Current system as per profile - stable for several years.
Tried upgrading processor to Athlon 3700+ (San Diego) and system will not boot. D Bracket lights indicate 'Early Chipset Initialisation'.
"Tiresmoke's" post on "Bios update information" seems to indicate that I should be using BIOS v 9.3 for VIA Pro Socket 939 San Diego core processors, but as a newbie to this stuff I'm worried about being able to revert to 3.3 and my 3000+ if I still can't get a bootable system.
The only BIOS update I have done is via LiveUpdate (and that had me sweating) - so I'm not exactly an expert!
    Any help greatfully received!!

    Hi Henry,
Tried the update today and it's not happenin' for me.
USB stick is a brand new byteStor 8Gb USB 2.0
    Logged in as admin.
Ran USBMSIHQ.exe and pointed to 6702v94.zip.
All messages seemed to be OK.
Stick now shows an MSI logo in windows explorer and I can see 3 files:
         adsflash.exe     31kb
         bioss.bin       512 kb
         mt211.exe     115 kb
Checked BIOS Settings for USB legacy support and Boot Sector Protection - OK.
Booted and hit F11, selected USB RMD-FDD:
Lights on the stick flash briefly, then I got a black screen with a flashing cursor - no further activity until I hit the 'Reset' button.
Restarted in Win XP Pro and reformatted the USB stick using the HP utility just in case.
Re-did all the other stuff and rebooted from the stick.
This time the USB stick flashed briefly and I got a screen full of '<' (filled in solid), followed by a screen full of what I can only describe as 'Smiling faces' in square boxes.
No prompts for BIOS save, no nothing.
Hit the reset button and booted back into WinXP.
I was getting quite excited by the simplicity of it all - until I got to the reboot bit!!!
    Any ideas?

  • I would like to upgrade my Imac 8,1 from 1 Gb to 4Gb RAM. Apple does not have memory for this Imac but recommended Crucial, Kingston or Ramjet. I have noticed a difference in pricing and would like to know if there are differences in their chips?

I would like to upgrade my Imac 8,1 (20 inch early 2008) from 1Gb RAM to 4 Gb. Apple no longer provides 800Mhz2DDR2 SDRAM but recommended Crucial, Kingston or RAMjet.
Are there any difference in these vendors chips as the price range is from $51-$99?
    Thanks, Johng

I'm coming late to this string because I now have the same issue as gillnfly and you have all solved virtually all of my questions - thanks!  My only other question to add to what you've already said is - I currently have 1 G of memory installed.  Can I ADD a 2G card to get to 3G (probably more than I need), or should cards match if you have more than 1 - i.e., 2 1G cards or replace existing 1G with a 2G, or even 2 2G cards (way more than I need).
Thanks for your spot-on comments!  I already found the OWC website and you've confirmed that's the best place to go.

  • CS3 Wont Open in Windows 7--AMD Processor Issue--HELP!

After much, much searching I've found there's been a common issue with AMD Processors on Windows 7 and getting CS3 to run correctly. Apparently a patch was created, that fixed the problem for users with similar issues. But the links to those patches are no longer valid.
I have no phone right now, chat aint working--and I can't email Adobe of course, soooo someone please...
The forum I found with those links and explanations is here:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/software/25313-adobe-cs3-64-bit-ultimate-3.html
From there, this pretty much describes it:
"Just bought an HP Pavillion Elite with Windows 7 Home Premium and AMD processor.  Photoshop CS3 would install but would hang when accessed. Some forums  suggested that Photoshop CS3 is incompatible with this AMD processor and  Windows 7 (64-bit). I called HP and was told the software is  incompatible. I was just about to return my computer when I found this  forum. I downloaded and installed the patch. I then opened Photoshop  (for the thousandth time) and voila--it FINALLY opened!!!"
I've also found many other isntances of this complaint with AMD Processors--Photoshop gets a window open then goes into Not Responding. All other applications don't open at all (but are visible in my task manager). So it's not really a Photoshop specific complaint but I'm placing it here.
I've updated graphics card, changed the desktop theme to Classic, not Aero, tried running the programs in different compatibility modes, all to no avail.
This patch these guys are mentioning has GOT to be it. Someone help me get back to work!!
    thank you all in advance.

I had not tried "run as administator." What the hell is that?! I see where to do it and all, but honestly, these permissions
/security/owner/administrator issues on Windows 7 are nothing short of ridiculous.
Every time I think Microsoft may have finally done something right...
I'll try that again down the road. For the moment, looks like Adobe Acrobat 8 is completely incompatible with Windows 7 and almst impossible to delete from the system. SO first task--restoring factory setttings.
In the meantime I'll speak to that patch for Licenseing:
Solution 1: I ran it, but didn't seem to do anything. There was no confirmation of a successful "install," or what you might call it. Secondly, when running again, I was never prompted to enter 0.
Solution 2: I believe those settings were already set as described and so I couldn't really make any changes.
Solution 3: Those folders don't exist, so couldn't do that one.
For various other reasons I wasn't having luck with the next couple thanks to stupid permissions. I'll try again once I've gotten back up to speed.
But yea, someone out there seems to have found a CS3 patch. Am I at least to presume that CS5 would def. work on my comp, and therefore, CS6 is a shoe-in?

It has a 443775-001 motherboard installed that came with a AMD processor & single NVidia GPU chip.
He's trying to load some GM testing software on it for testing GM vehicle's & it's rejectiing it & causing error messages cause of the AMD processor not being capatible with the software.
He doesn't want to go out & purchase a new laptop if this can be performed instead.
Contacted AMD & Intel support but still waiting word back from them.
    Thank's!

    Hi, Brent:
The entire motherboard would have to be replaced in order to install an Intel processor.
More cost effective and easeir to purchase a used or new notebook with the Intel hardware the customer wants.

  • Upgrading AMD Processor, Confusion

My motherboard is the current model:
    M3970AM-HP (Angelica).
In the processor upgrade information section, it lists processors that are supported.
The supported socket for my motherboard is AM3-b.
All of the processor upgrades, when I look them up on ebay, amazon, and newegg, are listed as AM3+.
When I look for the processor FX-8150 (Zambezi), it redirects me to the FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core.
I would like to purchase and use the Vishera 8-Core.
My question: Is it supported by my motherboard?
The HP support website seems to suggest that it is but I have friends and other sources who say it may not be.
Please clarify this issue for me.
    Thank you.

I'm sorry but posting this information doesn't answer my question..
can someone please answer my initial question?
Is there a difference between AM3-b and AM3+?
Can I run an AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core Processor having an HP Angelica motherboard?

  • Does Compaq Presario R3000 (AMD) Notebook PC support WPA2-PSK?

    Hello all,
I know this is an old laptop(Compaq Presario R3000 (AMD) Notebook PC).
Recently, I upgraded my network system and start to use WPA2-PSK.
I have installed the patch from MS http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1974
However, the droplist of my network wireless setting still doesn't show the option
    for wpa2 but wpa.
Can someone tell me the reason? Is it beause that my network adapter doesn't support
    the new standard wpa2?
    Thank you

I believe this driver will take care of the issue...
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=3688870&sp...
Again, in addition to the above driver you also must be running XP SP3 in order to get WPA2 support if that microsoft SP2 WPA2 patch doesn't work.

    Hi,
Page #93 of the following document says
NOTE: This section applies only to computer models equipped with an Intel processor. AMD processors come soldered to the system board and cannot be removed or replaced.

No, you can't upgrade CPU of your machine. You have to buy new motherboard that means new machine.

I waited 7 days for this just to get disappoint ment i did alot of research before ordering everything looked good to go..

    Hi,
You will need the Intel Q6600 Yorkfield and not a Kentfield model processor.
There are few applications that will take advantage of a quad core processor. The Intel duo core E8xxx would be a better choice in my opinion. I had a HP PC with the same motherboard with the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400.  The Intel E8600 would be an excellent choice.

  • HP 19-2014 Processor Upgrades?

Hi, I just purchased an HP 19-2014 all-in-one at P.C. Richard & Son.  The sales associate told me this was a "gaming computer" and she could not have been more wrong. I understand upgrading my processor might bring my performance up to par with the graphics at least (which are not bad, by the way). I would like to exchange it for the computer I wanted in the first place:
HP Pavilion Intel Core i3 Dual Core Processor Desktop Computer with Windows 8.1 MODEL: PV500-270
Any suggestions would be very helpful at this point.

    Hi,
    No, you can't as mentioned:
"The motherboard supports the AMD Kabini E1-2500 APU only. The processor is not upgradable"
    Source: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c04094869#N242
If you wish to play modern games the "HP Pavilion Intel Core i3 Dual Core Processor Desktop Computer with Windows 8.1 MODEL: PV500-270" is also no good. Please check:

I have a K8T Neo-V motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64 2800+ and I'm looking for a processor upgrade to give this machine a little more life. What would you guys suggest I look for on ebay for a new processor?

Henry, go for dualcore X2 4200 don't choose a single core like 4000+! Dual core is standard right now and will be more boost than a single core.
The price Anora found at newegg is very good for X2 4200+!
Newegg also offers these interesting 2x1 Gb kits:
