Compaq cq58

hello i have a compaq cq58 241sa and my audio suddenly stopped working so i went into sound options to see that it said my speakers where unplugged and that some random black box was there but no sound will play so i went to the driver page and downloaded my driver which when i installed it, it gave me the error audio driver -0001 so i went on a search for the realtek drivers and a few would give me the bsod which i sorted out and finally came to a driver that would work so i installed it and all was fine untill i rebooted the unplugged error was back now every time i reboot my computer i have to reinstall the driver, also the mic sauys unplugged
thanks in advanced
ps i dont want to restore my os as i know its only a driver issue

Hello @danny1313 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the audio has stopped working on your notebook.
If the issue is recent the best thing to do would be to restore the notebook to before the issue started. This doesnt remove your files but will remove any recently installed software or Windows update after the chosen restore point: System Restore (Windows 8)
If that doesn't work please try using the HP Recovery Manager to restore the original drivers for the sound card. You can see how to do this here: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)
If none of that works try installing the following drivers: Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver
Let me know if any of those work.

  • Questions on replacing hard drive in Compaq CQ58 for the experts

I have a Compaq CQ58-bf9WM, product number: C2M29UA#ABA with Window 8 version 6.2.9200 build 9200. Windows 8 is not meeting my needs and I wish to replace it. My plan is to replace the existing hard disk with a new solid state disk. I need to prepare the new disk for using the UEFI start up process and configure the UEFI BIOS to boot from the new disk. I also plan to place the hard disk with Windows 8 into a USB hard disk adapter. This will allow me to use Windows 8 when I need it by using the UEFI Boot Device menu in the UEFI Start Up Tool(or screen).
The replacement solid state disk in order to use the UEFI start up process needs to be set with GUID Partition Table (GPT). What Windows 8 tools (e.g. old fdisk Care available to do this and where one can one find instructions for the process? If the tools are missing on this installation of Windows 8 then how can I get the necessary tools?
According to the HP document, HP Business Notebook Computer EFI Guidelines, the replacement solid state disk there needs to be VFAT32 EFI System Partition (ESP) labeled HP_TOOLS and marked as boot present to support UEFI start up process. Presently, the existing hard drive VFAT32 ESP does not have any label? Do I need the HP_TOOLS label on the new solid state drive?
On the VFAT32 ESP, there needs to be a directory structure of /BOOT/EFI/ with the EFI programs(boot loader, boot manager, shell, etc.). How can one register the new EFI programs (within/BOOT/EFI) to allow them to be started by UEFI Boot from File menu of the UEFI Start Up Tool?
The VFAT32 ESP on the existing hard drive has a directory HP in /EFI. The HP directory contains directories BIOS, BIOSUPDATE, and SystemDiags. I am assuming I will need copy this directory structure and their contents to the new solid state drive VFAT32 partition. Is this correct?
There are also two directories, boot and EFI in the HP directory on the VFAT32. The boot and EFI directories appear to contain Microsoft boot software for Windows 8. I should not need these since Windows 8 will not be on the solid state disk. Is this correct?
Before I make any changes that affect the BIOS, I would like to make a backup copy of the BIOS and its information. How can I do this? I would also like the backup copy to be stored in the ESP BIOSUPDATE directory.
I would like to have the UEFI Shell available on both drives(existing and new). UEFI Shell is part of the overall UEFI specification, so it should be able to be supported by the UEFI BIOS. It needs to have a signature or key file to register it. Does HP have a version of the UEFI shell with a signature file available? If yes, then how does one get a copy of files and installation instructions? If no, then how does one install the Intel provided shellx86.efi program (especially the existing drive)?
Thank you in advance for any help on any these questions.

The prices there look pretty decent. As for transferring the cloned image, what software did you use to clone? Most imaging software has a way to restore the image to a new hdd.
I use Macrium. It creates an Image of the hdd to CD/DVD or external USB hdd. It also lets you create a bootable cd to boot from & restore the image to a new hdd.

  • "Line in" trouble COMPAQ CQ58-241SA

    Hi,
Ive recently being trying to record guitar demos on my laptop using audacity. I first installed guitar rig 2 and the usb dongle that came with it along with its (latest) drivers. When using guitar rig 2 i am able to hear sound once i have set the correct sound input in preferences but when trying to record in audacity (also tried reaper) it will not pick up a signal from the usb and says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and project sample rate".
When i go into the soundtab via control panel it registers that the behringer usb device is plugged in but will not register any sound in the bar next to it. Ive tried everything now from re-installing drivers to downloading ASIO4ALL and have absolutly no idea what it could be due to minimal knowledge of soundcards etc.
    Running on:
    COMPAQ CQ58-241SA
    Windows 8

    Hi,
Based on its specs, it ONLY has:
    External Ports
    Digital media card reader
    1 VGA
    1 HDMI
    1 Headphone-out
    1 Microphone-in
    3 USB 2.0
    1 RJ45
No line in at all therefore the error mus be on the USB dongle. The following forum may help:

Black screen and caps lock blinkig twice between pauses. - (According to HP FAQ thead it's an indication for corrupted BIOS).

  • No audio on Videos on Compaq CQ58

    Good morning,
I have purchased a Compaq CQ58 notebook and the audio does not always work.
The very first time i encountered this issue i was watching a video through the internet and everything was fine. I then went to another site to watch something else and there was no audio whatsoever
I then went back to the site i was on originally, and watched the same video i had watched some 5 minutes earlier, and again there was no sound.
I came here to the forums to seek help and when i played the video that guides you to finding your product key the sound worked immediately and continued to work for the rest of the day.
I've used sites since then and had no audio issues.
I turn my notebook on today and try to watch videos and again there is no sound.
I have run the troubleshooting guide and it says there is nothing wrong with my devices. I have gone into control panel and there are no yellow icons suggesting there is an issue.
Can someone please advise why my notebook is picking and choosing when it wants to play audio through my speakers please?
    The model is Compaq CQ58-331SA

  • No sound on Compaq CQ58

    I have a Compaq CQ58, with Windows 8.1 installed.
    Product number: D1L62EA#UUW.
I am having problems with the sound disappearing.
It started a few days ago and after looking at some of the forum suggestions I managed by good luck to get the sound back, though I am not sure exactly what I did to succeed, but it seems that as soon as I turn the PC off then I have no sound again.
The system is telling me that the speakers are working and I can see when I open the Volume mixer that there is sound on the unit.
    Best regards

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 8.

  • Compaq CQ58 blinking caps lock

    Hi all,
I have a compaq CQ58 which has just been restored to factory settings and everything seems to be working fine.
However, my caps lock keeps blinking 3 every second and then a break of about 2 maybe 4 seconds.
I can't find reference any details regarding this. All I could find is blinking caps lock and booting issues. This does not apply to me as laptops works as normal.
Not too sure but this might be related. I have removed the screen due to being smashed and laptop carrently runs on external screen while I'm waiting for a new screen.
    Could someone advice please.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi lokyt,
I see that your Compaq has a blinking Caps Lock light. Unfortunately, this blink code is an indication of a hardware issue. According to this HP document Computer Does Not Turn On and the LEDs Blink three blinks mean that it is a memory failure.
You can try removing and then reseating the memory. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for your model on page 36 you will find instructions on how to remove the memory. You will also find replacement part numbers if you need to replace the memory.
