Compaq Presario CQ50-110US Laptop

I  have the same mother board problem with my Compaq Presario CQ50-110US Laptop.  HP's Customer Service is very disappointing.
My laptop is 1.5 years old, 6 months out of warranty.  My first call to HP was unfortunately useless.  Told too bad.  Motherboard is about $400 to replace.  I emailed customer service asking for help with the situation.  I asked if they would split the cost of the repair with me, or offer me a discount to purchase a new one.  My case was supposed to be escalated to a Case Manager that would contact me with a few days.  After 5 days, I re-emailed because I had not been contacted. It took a full week before a Case Manager called me.  Again, nothing they can do.
Despite the fact that the sticker on my laptop says, "Built to Last", I found their responses very disappointing.  I asked if there was anything they would do to "keep me as a customer?"  Again, they will do nothing.
I explained also that I will be buying a new laptop, a new computer for my current business and another computer system with in the next 6 months for another new business. In addition, my brother-in-law had bought the same lap top as mine based on my recommendation.  Again, nothing..no response or no help.
Since HP is not willing to make any attempt at all to keep my as a customer, I will be purchasing a new lap top very soon made by DELL.  I will also not buy any more HP Products for personal or business use.  This is not based on my defective lap top, but on HP's poor customer service and willingness to keep a customer.
My case # was 7501314351

connect an external display to test the video . Power it up and see what it does.
Consider performing a hard reset.
Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA Laptop - eSATA/USB combo port does not allow eSATA connection

    Hi,
I recently purchased an external HDD with eSATA connection for use with my Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA laptop.
The specification on the laptop states it has a eSATA/USB combo port however there doesn't appear to be one. On closer inspection there is 2 USB ports on the right hand side of the laptop (which work fine with USB devices) and one on the left which is slightly wider than the other 2 (which also works fine with USB devices). However when trying to connect an eSATA cable to the port it does not fit and on closer inspection it does not look like the conventional eSATA/USB combo ports.
Does anyone know if this laptop was spec'd incorrectly or does indeed have an eSATA/USB combo port.
The cable I'm using was supplied with the external HDD I brought with connections as shown in this link.. http://www.comesource.com/storeweb/images/cable%20esata%20to%20esata.jpg
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am having the same problem with the "e-sata/usb shared port" , which does not look like a normal e-sata port, and the e-sata connector won't fit in it.
    Can anybody help us?

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-110US will not load up.

So.. the moment I press the power button, my Compaq Presario CQ56-110US notebook, will not load up. It only show the Compaq logo screen flashes black them shut down and restarts the process. It never makes it to the Windows login page.

    Hey @rajpodn ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for info on swapping out the CPU in your notebook.
You will find everything you need here: Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. The instructions you need start on page 75. Keep in mind that the CPU itself may not be the issue, it could be the socket on the motherboard preventing the notebook from reading the CPU, so even replacing the CPU may not work, as you may need a replacement motherboard. I do not suggest replacing the motherboard as doing so requires HP Proprietary software to reinstall the Service-ID necessary for reinstalling Windows.
*Caution - If you do install the new CPU be careful with the thermal paste. A small pea sized amount should be more than enough. Put the paste in the exact center and carefully spread so there is a fine layer almost to the edge of the CPU. Remember that the heatsink will press very firmly onto the CPU and spread the paste more and you don't want any squishing out as this can cause electrical shorts if the paste has a high metal content.
The part you will want is: AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W. The part number for this is: 616333-001.
You can order the CPU directly from HP here: HP Part Surfer, but you may be able to find it cheaper on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
Hopefully this covers everything you're after!

  • Compaq Presario R 4000 laptop

Please help - My Compaq Presario 4000 laptop won't power on...with or without the battery AC adapter plugged in. When I push power button, all 3 icons (lightning, on/off and circular tower thing)  on the front of puter all flash orange/red. What does this mean? How do I isolate the problem? How do I tell if it's the laptop and/or/battery and/or AC adapter?

The motherboard has died. An R4000 is about 5 or 6 years old at least and it has had a good life. Parts are inexpensive. 2 of them on eBay for $120 shipped:

  • Can you overclock a compaq presario CQ62-219WM laptop?

Is there a way to overclock my Compaq Presario CQ62-219WM? I really need a few more GHz...

There is no way to overclock in hardware as with a desktop. There may be software overclocking options, visit www.overclock.net but any overclocking of a laptop is ill-advised and darn near impossible, anyway. The cooling system is built to work at stock speeds and canot be improved very much. If you want a faster computer, sell the one you have and buy a new one. If you want to try to game on the system you have it is a lost cause. The problem is not the CPU it is the GPU, which cannot be upgraded in any way as it is soldered to the motherboard.

  • Compaq Presario cq50, power.

A while ago, I had a problem with my laptop, caused by several updates. Suddenly, it stopped working, (battery was ruined), and I thought the power cord was the problem. So I bought a new one (according to the specifications of the previous one). And effectively, it worked. Nevertheless, after a few minutes, it shut down, and the light located next to the power cord entrance was blinking. I tried to turn it on again, but it was no use. The next day, I turned it on again, worked, and after a while shut down.
I opened it, the fan was relatively clean, and everything looked normal.
    What do I do?
I could work without the battery before, so I do not think that's the problem.

    Hi @FermiEffect ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario 50 and issues with your AC adapter. What are the specs of the adapter you installed?
Yours is 65-W  AC adapter and should not be a travel adapter.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
Here is a link to troubleshoot the Ac adapter.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Compaq presario cq50-215nr Battery melted

I have a compaq that was runnig great then the battery  section on windows vista had a red slash tru it.
I pulled the battery out and it has a burned in hole in it.
I think the battery shorted out
Any body else had this problem ?
Thanks I am a disabled vet and unable to afford a new battery

I don't know what your budget is so I shopped batteries for the CQ50 on amazon.
I found a genuine HP battery for about $50 shipped  a good deal, its $130 on the HP site
There are plenty of real cheap knock off brands for under $20, but who knows what the quality is or if they will last very long before they die or catch fire.

  • I am trying to take out my fan in my Compaq Presario CQ50 but I can't access it....?

I am following this guide (http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-mot… and I skipped removing the memory, WIFI, and DVD. I don't want to do all that. Right now I am at the part where you take over the top cover but I can't get it off. Do I have to go through removing the memory, etc; ???

    - 4 days left to answer.
    Additional Details
I have to either replace it or clean it. I can't just take out the screws in the back (it doesn't look like they come out. I was trying to unscrew one for an hour.)

If you were having your appendix removed would you want the surgeon to skip a few steps? Follow the Service Manual would be my best advice, sir. I have not personally taken apart CQ50 but there are likely screws inside the memory compartment or under the optical drive that can only be reached by removing the memory, DVD drive, wifi card, etc. If you do not remove the wifi card and antennae leads the antenna will be in your way holding the top and bottom halves together.

  • Would this hard drive be compatible with a Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR?

I'm wondering if this hard drive would fit in and be compatible with my laptop:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=684
I'm not sure if this 12mm, 2.5 inch drive would fit in it or be compatible with it. I plan to purchase this one if it is indeed compatible and will fit.
Otherwise, if not, then can someone recommend another internal 750 GB SATA 3 Gb/s 8 MB Cache 5200 or 5400 hard drive for me that is just as good quality as Western Digital? Must be compatible and fit.
Thanks and much appreciation in advance.

  • Compaq Presario 2586US laptop - hard drive upgrade

I recently took a chance and bought 2 "parts only" Compaq Presario 2500 series laptops off Ebay and was able to make a single working PC with the motherboard from the 2586US being the motherboard I used.  I did not have a hard disk, so I bought a Samsung 160gb ATA drive.  Turns out I didn't need the little adapter on the bus end because it just plugged right into the socket on the motherboard.  The drive is supposed to be either ATA133 or ATA100 at the top end (I don't remember which).  I put the drive in and installed Windows.  I noticed that it seemed slow but Windows showed the disk at full size.  Then I went to dual-boot with a Linux distribution and encountered errors.  Through a lot of searching on the web I found out the BIOS and apparently the IDE interface itself (?) doesn't allow a disk larger than 137gb.  I checked the BIOS and indeed it says maximum usable size 137gb.  It also shows the transfer rate at DMA2 which, if I understand things correctly means it is only transferring at 33mb instead of 100mb or 133mb.  The service manual says ATA100, so it should support a DMA5 transfer rate.
I don't claim to understand all of this at all.  So, I'm looking for help.
    (1) Is there anyway to go beyond 137gb on a hard drive in this laptop?
    (2) If not, is the fact that my drive is actually 160gb when the PC only supports 137gb causing more problems?
    (3) What do I have to do to get a transfer rate beyond DMA2?  The BIOS setup won't let me tab to that field to change it.
Thank you for any help and explanations that I can understand.  Keep in mind I'm just your average Joe and not some sort of expert at all.  I found a lot of this on the web but not sure what it all means.
    Thanks in advance!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It originally had a 256mb and a 512mb SODIMM, but they were unmatched.  I just went ahead and bought 2  Samsung 512mb matched SODIMM's, so I have 1 gig of memory.
I installed Windows XP Professional SP2, then the Compaq drivers, then SP3, then all the Windows updates, then I installed ubuntu Linux 10.04 - 1 small partition for swap, 1 larger partition for everything else.
I did re-do my disk:  I shrank the Windows partition again, deleted the Linux partitions so I had 1 huge empty space, then created a 30gig partition at the end of the drive, then installed Linux.  Windows still seems to work fine, and Linux at least boots now.  So I guess the first thing I'm going to do is waste 30gb of space for being dumb when I bought the drive.  The DMA2 thing has me bothered - the Service Manual lists the 2500 series as all ATA100.  Is it possible that as one web site said, the BIOS is detecting too large of drive and therefore thinks an error and slows the drive down?  I would have thought since the Service Manual  (page 1-23, Mass Storage ) says it supports ATA100 (ultraDMA5?) that it would either say DMA5 in the transfer field or at least let me change it.
This is getting quite a bit above my knowledge base as far as why it's running the transfer at DMA2.  On the Internal Hard Disk BIOS set up page it says "Auto" for the type.  When I change that to "User Defined", I can tab to the transfer field, but the selections are all PIO or up to DMA2 - nothing above that.  That seems like some kind of BIOS error or else the Service Manual is in error.
Thanks for your help so far!   Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
