Compaq Presario CQ56 beep while working and working temperature

Hi,
I Have a Compaq Presario CQ56 with Windows 7 Ultimate (32Bit), ADM V140 CPU, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and an AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4250, and a SAMSUNG 250GB HDD.
While i am playing some random games like Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed World on Low-Medium graphics, i hear a long beep and then a click from the laptop, somewhere from the DVD-RW Drive. It only occured twice do far. The laptop works normal tho after the beeps.
Also, the temerature is worrying me, it goes up to 75C while playing, but goes down to 60-65 while internet and around 54 while idle (lid closed).
Sorry for my grammar i am Serbian.
Thanks in advance!

Those temperatures are a bit high, but still well within normal range. We see a lot of people reporting temperatures in the 90C ranges. The beep is a mystery to me.

    Hey @rajpodn ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for info on swapping out the CPU in your notebook.
You will find everything you need here: Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. The instructions you need start on page 75. Keep in mind that the CPU itself may not be the issue, it could be the socket on the motherboard preventing the notebook from reading the CPU, so even replacing the CPU may not work, as you may need a replacement motherboard. I do not suggest replacing the motherboard as doing so requires HP Proprietary software to reinstall the Service-ID necessary for reinstalling Windows.
*Caution - If you do install the new CPU be careful with the thermal paste. A small pea sized amount should be more than enough. Put the paste in the exact center and carefully spread so there is a fine layer almost to the edge of the CPU. Remember that the heatsink will press very firmly onto the CPU and spread the paste more and you don't want any squishing out as this can cause electrical shorts if the paste has a high metal content.
The part you will want is: AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W. The part number for this is: 616333-001.
You can order the CPU directly from HP here: HP Part Surfer, but you may be able to find it cheaper on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
Hopefully this covers everything you're after!

  • Compaq presario cq56 115dx will not power on blinking lights, not a disk drive problem

I own two identical Compaq Presario CQ56 115-DX, and the one I use every day stopped powering on.  Shows blinking caps lock light and orange WIFI light does not turn blue to turn on.  The fan powers on, but the screen doesn't come on at all.  I tried hard resetting several times and it didn't work.  I swapped the hard drive of the malfunctioning CQ56 to the other one that was working normally, and it works OK normally.  No hard disk corruption or problems.
Any idea how to fix this problem laptop?

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Problems

    Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop. It is still under warranty. Within the last week the power of the laptop has been messed up. When I have the laptop unplugged, which I don't very often, the laptop shuts down after an hour without any warning. So I plug back in the laptop and it still shows anywhere for 40-70 percent battery left. Why is it doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.
If the above has not helped, download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
If this reports a problem with the battery ( or even if it doesn't, but the problem is still occuring ), contact HP and arrange to have the battery replaced/notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please run the Hard drive and Memory test check if both off them passes. Then you could order the Recovery disc from HP Technical support or from the web link given below.
If any test Fails you need to replace the part.

  • Fan issue - Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA

    Product : Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium
    Issue: Fan error (90b)
    Greetings all ,
First off I am very familiar with computer systems and component as I work on them fairly regularly however I am currently unsure to what I should do from this point.
I got the notebook laptop as a present a few years ago and its seen better days however I recenty decided to use it again however when I started the laptop I got the fan error (90b) so I took a look at the fan and it wasnt spining hense the error , so I checked the  HP support site and looked at the error and also did a google search to see if anyone else had fixed it.
So I opened the laptop up (since it was out of warranty anyways) and I got to the fan and removed the heatsink and fan component and I opened that up and there was a buildup of dust obviously needless to say i cleaned it up and put the component back together and placed it back in and ensured everything was connected correctly and started up the computer however the fan still isnt spining and I still keep the getting the error.
So my question is , If I took out the component is there a way of testing to see if there is any fault with the fan itself? (eg. putting a small amount of power through it to see if the fan spins?)
Or should I just replace the fan and heatsink component completely and hope that the issue doesnt persist?
Any help would be appreciated , just to have someone elses opinion?

    Hi
As you have mentioned that the Fan is not spinning the issue is with Fan & also replacing the heatsink apply terminal paste and that should take care of the issue. I have also seen sometimes issue might be with the Systemboard connector which is bad might cause this issue.
This is very difficult to guess

  • Compaq Presario- New Hdd replacement 303 and start up failed error

    Hello,
Have an Issue with my Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop which started getting a harddisk failure via SMART check. Decided to get a new WD harddrive, size 320g, same as original drive. Tried to recover via recovery CD's I made when I first got the the Laptop. Kept getting stuck at 83% tried 4 times, stuck at same place each time. Ran a test in BIOS and got two failures; Start up test Failed and Harddrive 303 failure.Decided to try another new WD harddrive and, as well, with the original HP recovery CDS. After trying to recover it today was unsuccessful once again. Did the test once again in BIOS and got Start up test failed and Harddrive 303 failure.
Need help narrowing down to what the issue is here. When the first WD harddrive was taken back to the store they checked and it worked fine for them but returned it anyways. Tried another one and still same issue. I'm prety sure its not the new harddrive and not the 2 set of recovery CDS.
I'm confused and need assistance. What could be causing this problem?

    K87,
It sounds like either the SATA cable/ connection or the motherboard. When you are replacing the hard drivers do they just slide into place, or is there a small cable that you have to connect to it? The likelihood  of having 3 bad hard drives is rare I have never personally come across that issue.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • Compaq Presario CQ56 219-wm CPU compatible upgrade

Hi I am a performance pc enthusast and I wanna upgrade the stock cpu celeron single core 900 cpu of my Compaq Presario CQ56 219-wm laptop.
Can u tell me what following  cpu will work with your current F.15 bios?
    Intel Core Duo Mobile T9300
    Intel Core Duo Mobile T9500
If not those what would be the highest cpu supported?
    Thanks

Pretty sure the GL40 chipset is used only for Celeron/Pentium Dual processors. Notice that no Core2Duo was offered on the CQ56-200 Intel line. Just Celeron and the T4500. The GL40 was a special chipset for "value-oriented applications".
    Service Manual
This is anecdotal but you have some folks who claim to have successfully installed Core2Duo processors on GL40 laptop motherboards, including at least one HP. However, note the "official" compatibility list and take other claims with a grain of salt:
    http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/GL40_Express.html
In other words, it might work even likely will work but it is a gamble.

  • Does a Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM have a webcam?

My Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM seems to have a place for a webcam, the manual says there is a webcam there (in select models) and the device drivers claim I have a "virtual" webcam.
So do I have a webcam or not?

According to the specs for your notebook, no.
