Compaq Presario CQ57 - 205SO BOOTMGR Missing after using Recovery Discs

Hi..
Try to do a recovery with the Recovery Discs From HP
When everything is complete and you do a reboot....BOOTMGR is missing
and you need to start over
Self test is done OK
Start up test OK
Need some help her
clueless

All HP systems came with a recovery partition on the HDD.  The only reason it shouldn't be present is if it was removed or if the HDD was replaced.  There might be something wrong with the disks themselves.  Have they worked previously or was this the first time they were being used?
You could also try using an official Windows 7 ISO using the product key found on the certificate of authenticity on the underside of the notebook.  Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit can be found here.  Make the DVD and proceed to install Windows using it.  You would boot from it in the same manner you did the recovery disks.  When it comes to activating Windows, you will need to use the phone activation method (it's automated) to use the OEM product key for that system.  See DavidPK's answer in this thread for more information.
Using this workaround will get Windows 7 installed.  Once that is done, you can install all of the drivers and desired software for your system from here.

  • Compaq Presario CQ57 - Will not boot after ram install

I was upgrading the ram on my father's old compaq, and was going along fine. I got the ram in, closed it all up, and went to boot it.
I was greeted with a black screen, a blinking caps lock light, a blinking power button light and the orange wifi light. I've made sure it has no static multiple times, and have tried slowly reintroducing power sources. I have cleaned the ram and the input, swapped out ram cards, everything anf nothing seems to work. When I turn it on I hear the CPU fan, and a single beep, then silence after a few more seconds.
Anyone wanna help me with this? I'm a mac lass now a days, so this is a bit out of my memory.

  • Bootmgr missining after using recovery disks

I bought my laptop a dv7-4278nr a few months back, it was a month old when I got it. The day after I got it, the hard drive failed, so I was sent a new one, with the recovery disks. Once I go through recovery, and I put the 4th disk, the application and driver recovery DvD it takes like 1 minute, before it pops out. Then shuts off computer even though it says it will restart. I turn it bac on click finish, and restarts. It does boot mgr is missing. I downloaded a Windows 7 copy and made an iso of it, but when I go to download drivers on the hp website, most of the programs don't wor at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Create a Windows 7 Recovery CD. Download the ISO  below.
    Windows 7 64bit
Use an app such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to cd is Here. Once created, boot from it.
    Select the Repair option.
Select "Command Prompt" and type in the following command.
    Bootrec.exe /REBUILDBCD
If the command is successful, close the Command Prompt window.
Click “Startup Repair” to perform Windows Startup Repair. After doing these computer will reboot automatically.

  • Does Compaq Presario CQ57 support UEFI?

I have Compaq Presario CQ57-425ER and want to use Windows 8.1 on GPT Disk. I made a bootable USB Flash Drive with Rufus (selected GPT-UEFI option), but my laptop can't start from this flash drive. There's a message - no bootable device. Among drivers for my laptop i found HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment.  Here is a description: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55477.html. I found 2 interesting points in this description: Provides support for GPT drives and Provides support for UEFI System Partition installation. I tried to launch that flash with windows on other notebook and it works fine. But in my laptop I always get the message that there's no bootable media. So, is there a support of UEFI in CQ57? And if yes, what should I do?

Here's the thing GPT is for HDD that are 2tb or bigger not for USB flashdrive. If your laptop came with Windows 8 it should have UEFI bios setup.

  • Compaq Presario CQ57 Laptop System Bios recovery problem

A customer of mine has a Compaq Presario CQ57 that has developed a BIOS problem.
I am unsure if it had had a BIOS update through HP Support Assistant or if it just decided to start for no reason but it now intermittently decides to recover the System BIOS at start up.
It is all very random. It may not do it for a while - working fine every time it is switched on - but then just decides to go into this recovery. Sometimes the recovery sorts it first time, sometimes it has to go through the recovery mode several times before it sorts it out. Once sorted, Windows and the laptop work fine.
I have tried to remedy it by installing BIOS updates. There are 4 available on the HP website. I have installed all four at various points - sometimes they install, sometimes they fail. Sometimes the recovery mode kicks in straight after - usually after a fail which makes sense. Other times it will work OK for many start ups and then just go back to it's old tricks.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello rmaiden,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Compaq Presario CQ57-212NR gives you an error after running the system recovery.
Can you tell me if this error loads within Windows or if it prevents you from starting up.
I would suggest you acquire an ISO image of Windows 7 and burn it to a DVD. Use this to install Windows and then run the recovery after. This should remedy the problem.

  • My compaq presario cq57 wont download any new files.

hey guys I'm in need of some help. After doing a system recovery my computer will no longer download any new files from the internet. from browsers to games I've tried it all. and nothing will download. it keeps coming up with a message that says that it can not find the file that im trying to use. so i was wondering what might be causing this and ho wi would fix this, if its possible to fix.

    Hi @christian12 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ57 Notebook and issues with installing drivers. First, try to click the Windows icon, type services in the Search box, and then click or tap View Local Services. Scroll down to the Windows Installer. Startup type should be - Automatic, and Service Status should be - started. Restart the computer after this step and try installing again. If this is not automatic and started that is why you can not install drivers.
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Notebook shows BOOTMGR missing after running return system to factory condition

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment notebook Model #dv7 3163cl. First I need to say I am a beginner user. My problem started with a low battery issue. Then using recovery mgr. I first ran back up disks and then attempted system restore. During which it shut off. When I tried to restart it it originally said something about starting like new from factory. Then said unable to load windows program. I contacted hp and tech had me purchase a 1 year phone support plan. Then had me go th the recovery manager and select restore to factory image. During which it gave this message. Recovery Manager could not restore computer using the fzctory image. Please contact HP support. Error code 0xe0ef0003. He said that meant I need a new hard drive. Now when I turn it on it says BOOTMGR Missing. Use ctrl apt Del to start but that does not work. It does nothing. Could the tech be right? Is there a way I can check my disk first? Or another way to tell? It wasn't the original problem so I'm not confident in his determination. Should I be?

Immediately after powering on tap the Esc key. This should bring up a menu of which F2 is what you want to choose. Use Diagnostics to test your hard drive.

  • Bios on compaq presario cq57 keeps recovering every time I boot

Relatively new laptop. It is a Compaq Presario CQ57 running windows 7 64 bit. Up untill recently everything was fine but about a week ago it started failing to boot and then after turning it on and off, going into the bios recovery. It goes through this (sometimes more than once) before finally giving a message saying bios recovered, error 500 (and to look here for assistance). The issue seems intermittant. Sometimes it boots fine, other times it takes several attempts with the automated recovery. I think the automatic update for the bios has run once or twice, but I didn't notice any updates immediately prior to this issue starting.
Does anyone have any answers. Thank you.

No ideas anyone? Took me about an hour to get the thing to boot today. Several attempts at turning on and off during which it wouldn't even POST, and then once it did post, the bios recovery system ran through several times before I finally got back into windows.
The exact computer model incidentally is a CQ57-364EA.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a software issue or whether there is a hardware failure somewhere. I'm figuring it's software, because when the computer does finally boot, it works normally.

  • Comapable internal bluray burner for compaq presario cq57-480sa?

Im buying a Compaq Presario CQ57-480SA, and I'm looking to replace the curent DVD writer with a Bluray Writer, but not sure which drives are compatable...can anyone help?

I do allot of Blu-ray burning and I highly recommend an external Blu-ray Burner, the internal laptop burners are not very good.
     http://www.amazon.com/External-Blu-Ray-Burner-BW-12D1S-U-BLK/dp/B0051UY168
See this post from Lightning UK as well. Lots of errors and problems with internal laptop burners.
     http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
Have a look at number 4 in the link from above.
I use Imgburn for all my Blu-ray burning, I use an older LG external burner that is no longer available. In the beginning it would not burn dual layer Blu-rays so I had to cross flash it with firmware update from a newer model.
If you want to use an internal burner, stay away from Sony and e-bay, buy the newest one you can find.
Pioneer would probably be a good bet.
What ever you buy go to their web site and make sure there are new and recent firmware updates for their given player.

  • Can I put a SATA 3 Solid State Drive in my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI?

I would like to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI and replace the hard drive with a solid state drive.  I'm considering the OCZ-Vertex-4 2.5 inch SATA 3 Solid State Drive (128GB) but I'm not sure if this will be compatible with my notebook?

    Hi:
If a SATA II drive is a lot less, then probably yes.
    Notebook specs are very sketchy.
The chipset may be capable of SATA III transfer speeds, but HP may not have SATA III controllers on the motherboard.
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/value-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm65.html
As you can see from the specs at the link above, the chipset has 2 SATA III ports and 6 SATA II ports.
You would think that HP would hook up the primary SATA AHCI controller to one of the 2 SATA III ports, but that may not be the case.
That is the best I can do for you since I don't have your notebook and cannot confirm the speed the drive runs at.
So, if there is not much of a difference in price, I would take a gamble on the SATA III SSD.
