Thank you for the additional information.
The best thing to do is run HP Update if it is on your computer.  I would normal tell you to run Windows Upate, also.  However, Microsoft is no longer supporting Win XP.  Also, you can go through the drivers in the Software & Drivers section and install any that have a later date than the release date of the computer (13-Aug-2006).  Make certain that they match the hardware in your system before installing them.

    Hi chavinda546,
No you can't put an Intel i7-960 chip into the motherboard in your PC. You would end up replacing the motherboard, memory, power supply and processor.  And,  your HP recovery disks would not work so you would probably need to buy a copy of Windows 7.

  • HP Pavilion Media Center m8200n Desktop PC/ recovery disks FAIL

I had to replace a crashed hard drive.  BIOS shows that it recognizes the new drive.  Can NOT boot system.  Error message says disks (obtained upon purchase of computer) do not belong to this pc.  What?  I'm under the impression that it should not matter if this is a new hard drive.....the motherboard is what recognizes the recovery disks.  Is it possible that I have the wrong disks?  Or is this a big scam?

Hello thekissfan, Sometimes the HP Recovery Restore disk will not work on a new unpartioned and unformatted hard drive.
The hard drive would need to be prepared for the HP Recovery Restore disk.
The new hard drive would need to be partitioned, and formatted, and then the HP Recovery Restore Disk may work.
This is a fairly common issue. If your new hard drive came with a CD, you may be able to use the CD to boot the system and prepare the new hard drive.

  • Replacing Motherboard on HP Media Center PC running Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

Running OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on an HP Pavilion Media Center m8226x Desktop PC.  Replacing motherboard ASUS M2N68-LA Motherboard 6150SE HP Narra2-GL8E with an MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2) motherboard due to failure.  Both boards have same chipset and form factor.  Can I just replace board without reinstalling windows?  Do I need to install new drivers?  I don't have an install CD or install key, would Microsoft provide a key if needed?  Is there a link I can reference for MB replacement/ install?

The OEM license is tied to the original motherboard version, ie M2N68-LA. You lose the OEM "rights" when you changed the board.

  • Monitor does not come on due to no input signal. Monitor is hp w2207. Hp media center pc m 260 N.

Desktop PC is connected correctly but monitor indicates no input signal & monitor goes to sleep mode. All my wireless laptops work ok. Does this have anything to do with wireless setup?

Although it appears the computer model name is incomplete, I assume you mean a HP Media Center m260n Desktop Computer. Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion w2207 LCD wide-screen flat panel monitor. The computer supports VGA only, unless you have previously installed an 8x AGP graphics card. The monitor supports both VGA and DVI-D.
The first step in troubleshooting this issue would be to connect the monitor to a known working computer using the same VGA cable. Does the monitor work??? Yes... could be the computer, No... could be the monitor or the cable. Next, connect the computer to another known working monitor with the same VGA cable. Does the monitor display a picture??? Yes, computer is good, No... computer or cable  is bad. Post the results if you need more assistance.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.

  • My media center M8000y no longer completes boot sequence...I turn on the desktop and sometimes the b

HP Media Center M800y, System # GG755AV#ABA, Windows Vista Ultimate, Desktop will not complete boot sequence as the Blue & white HP screen which doesn't always appear, will give options to either
a).Press F10 to enter setup or,
b). to press f11 to start recovery partition in hard drive that doesn't work when tried.
Can enter setup when blue & white HP screen appears but do not know what to look for when inside.
If I pick none of the 2 options, the screen just turns black with a horizontal line "-" blinking at the upper left hand corner of the screen. Sometimes the screen will not even show the blue & white HP screen and it just stays black.
I changed the CMOS battery and nothing happened except that now the blue & white HP screen with the 2 options appears even less when I attempt to start up... I also tried using the recovery disks to no avail...
A power surge knocked out the power in my building and the computer suddenly stopped working while streaming netflix video afterwards... Then when attempting to re-boot once power was restored, The screen showed some very wierd, almost alien fonts on the top of the black screen that almost resembled Chinese or hyrogliphics. Upon further attempts to re-boot to no avail, I'm at a loss in diagnosing the possible causes or failure modes... Can somebody help me in the right direction???
I'm leaning towards either a corrupted bios via virus, or a fried hard drive or both. If you think something else or this has happened before and anyone knows a fix, I would be eternally grateful for your guidance in resolving this problem I'm experiencing.
    Respectfully,
    Henry

I would lean more to a hard drive problem.
A quick test is to temporarily disconnect the hard drive - the system should quickly indicate it can't find the HDD, can't  boot, etc.  You should also have the option to press one of the function keys to enter system BIOS.
If when you hook the drive up again - it starts getting flaky/slow again to do anything - you've likely found your culprit.

  • How do I add a second video card to my Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop?

I want to install a second video card to my Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop so I can use two monitors. What card should I get?

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model supports one VGA output via nVidia GeForce 6150SE onboard integrated graphics. This model also has a PCIe x16 graphics card expansion slot which will accept a PCIe x16 graphics card. According to the specs, installing a discrete graphics card in the PCIe x16 slot will disable the onboard integrated graphics.
The graphics card you purchase must support both monitors you wish to use with your computer. Additionally, most retail graphics cards require a 300 watt or greater system power supply. Currently , your computer has a 250 watt power supply and it will need to be replaced. Please consider the Corsair CX430, CX500, or CX600 series of power supplies to meet the new graphics card power requirements.
Alternatively, if this is mostly for word docs, spreadsheets, day trading and light video, you may wish to consider a USB-to-video adapter such as the eVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or one of the many other adapters on the market.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • All Ports/Plugins Do not work. Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC

Hello,I am here today With a problem of Mine that I can't seem to fix on my own.I have the Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC And I have Not used it In about 10-12 months And I have finnaly turned it on to Try and use it for some stuff and I plugged it in the wall And It starts up normally no beeping sounds or nothing. So After I did that I plugged the Blue video cord into my PC and my monitor And Before this I rememberd My USB ports wouldnt work And I could not test them out again because my video did not seem to work,I had asked around and They said something about my Drivers Need Resseting? I kept on Getting different answers when I ask so I came here. So to sum everything Up. How do I reset my drivers Without Video And/or What is the problem and how to fix it with the ports not working..Thanks for your time.

    Hello again ZhayneW,
Thank you for the updated information on your issue. I would like you to try the steps I am providing you below in order until your graphics return:
Step 1. As you have tried different monitors I would like you to try different cables. The cables that go from your monitor to your computer could be the issue as well. According to the Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC Product Specifications page your computer has the IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) and has following I/O ports with number 2 being a VGA connection and number 7 being the USB ports you state do not work. If you are using a VGA cord to connect your monitor to the computer that is the cord I would like to see replaced or swapped out with if possible. If you have already done this move on to the next step and ensure you let me know in your next post.
Step 2. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord and open it up and place your had on the power supply for about 30 seconds to drain any electrical charge you may be holding. Now on the motherboard on the front (opposite the I/O connection indicated above) left hand side you will see the following jumpers:
These are the jumpers you need to use to clear the CMOS on your computer. Now on the off chance that your USB and Intergrated graphics have been disabled in the BIOS I am going to get you to clear the CMOS settings by moving the jumpers to look like the image below:
Leave the jumpers in this position for about 10 seconds and then return them to their original position. Reassemble the computer and do not plug it in until it is totally back together. If this was successful your computer should boot up and your display should be back.
Step 3. At this point the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options. You could also go to a local computer repair and look to get it repaired as well.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Compaq Presario SR1330NX desktop. Black screen after restarting after recovery using disks

My Compaq presario SR1330NX desktop computer which has XP. Years ago I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. I ordered the recovery disks. I have done successful recoveries with them. Although it has been years. I did a recovery from disk. I dont think I did it correctly as it had been a while. Anyway, It never asked me for the 2nd disk, but it said the recovery was successful and to restart the computer. I thought that maybe it had made its own new recovery partition when using the disks before. So I restarted the computer and all I get is a black screen with compaq on it and some weird symbols in the left upper corner that look like
    >triangle,Divide sign,Square,upside down t with a line under it,zero and a weird looking capital B".
And it does NOTHING. I put disks in it does nothing. This is the only screen that comes up and nothing else works. What did I do? and How can I fix this?

Hello tinkyferret, The HP Recovery Restore disk set makes a new Recovery Partition when they are used to recover the system.
You might try the HP Recovery Restore procedure from the hard drive, if you have not, and see if it wil complete successfully.
Normally on a Compaq system, you press the F-10 key to enter the Recovery Restore utility.

  • Require Help Obtaining Audio Driver for Compaq Presario SR1429UK desktop

    Hi,
Really hoping someone can assist me obtaining the Realtek High Definition Audio driver for the Compaq Presario SR1429UK desktop.
I've obtained a second hand SR1429UK and it has been rebuilt but I have been unable to install the audio driver. I've tried downloading it from the compaq site but the sp26552.exe update driver which is available does not work and reports errors on installation. From the Compaq site, the only available driver is the update driver and there is no available download of the 'original' driver which is sometimes available for other models.
I've tried using the other SR1429 drivers (ES, FR, IT, NX etc) but they don't seem to be compatible.
I also don't have to the recovery disk or compaq application recovery installed as it's a clean WinXP Pro build.
ANy ideas where else I can obtain this driver?
    Cheers, Jeremy

I have also changed the onboard audio in BIOS from Auto to Enabled, still there is no audio.
I am not using any graphics card in this pc and using normal speakers or head phone.
