Compaq Presario v6000 recovery without disks

My last recovery disc cannot be read by my laptop. It seems that the 6000v recovery disc are no longer available. When I push f11 during start up it gives me no options, just prompts me to insert the disk that it cannot read. Any alternatives?

  • Problem with Compaq Presario V6000 laptop

Hi forum members! I am a newbie to this forum and i would like to introduce myself, my name is Hammy and I am from Glasgow. I have a problem with my laptop whih is a Compaq Presario V6000 running windows Vista, 32 bit product number V6254EA.
A few weeks ago when i turned on the computer it failed to boot up, the only thing visible on the screen is the bar at the bottom of the screen with `Microsoft Corporation` displayed below it.
I have tried starting it up in SAFE MODE but all that happens is that a certain amount of windows system drivers are loaded and then goes no further!
I have purchased recovery discs with no joy! I have also tried a hard reset which has not solved the problem. I tried the `hard drive self test, which after approx 30 seconds carrying out a quick test displayed the following message #1- 07 Fail.
If it is the hard drive or the motherboard that has failed is it possible to replace them.
    Thanks

Did you burn the recovery disks? Will follow up with the manual and a link to buy the hdd.

Cable code isn't going to help what you need the the cable part number. Without this no one will be able to help you locate the cable. Also you should tells us the P/N that will insure someone can look into what the part is and also what is that cable for as there is no discription what it does or connects to.

  • How do I keep my Compaq Presario V6000 fan from running continuously?

I have this old Presario V6000 with a single core processor, 3GB ram, and 160GB HD with integrated graphics. I don't do any gaming or deal with large file manipulation, or any of the other processes that overtax the graphics or the cpu. The fan still runs all the time, and it's not real quiet. Just peeping through the vent holes with a flashlight and looking at the fan, I don't see that much dust or anything that could be hindering air flow. The unit does not get exceedingly hot to the touch. There in no option in Bios that allows toggling of the fan function. It's just loud and annoying.
My question is this: is there a thermostatic fan controller on this thing that could be malfunctioning and not not allowing the fan to turn off below a certain temperature? Is it part off the fan itself?
Short of tearing the laptop down to the mb and doing a thorough cleaning, is my only other option to blow out what I can from the outside of the case. I don't mind taking it apart, it's just time consuming and I could inadvertently mess something else up. Should I replace the fan (and thermostat) while I'm in there? Maybe a better performing fan? Or do I just need to accept that it's an old dog and this is the way old dogs act ?
    Thanks for any input. Jim

    Hi,
All you should need to do after replacing the HDD is the following.
Start the notebook and open the CD/DVD drive.  Insert the first Recovery Disc.  Hold down the power button until the notebook shuts down.  Press the power button to start the notebook which should now boot from the Recovery Disc and start the recovery process.

  • Compaq Presario C700 needs boot disk

Just replaced the hard drive in a Presario C700 and do not have a boot disk for it. How/where can I get one?

    Hi
Easiest way is to contact HP in your local region and explain to the agent you need recovery media for  your model machine ,  there will be a cost involved for the recovery media HP will supply .  Once you receive the recovery media then change the BIOS setup to boot from CD/DVD and then the machine will boot from the disks and re-install Windows and drivers for your product .
                                                  Hope This Helps

  • Compaq Presario Blank Screen

Hi, I've got a Compaq Presario CQ61-406SA Notebook, and the screen's just displying a black screen. The backlight's on, and I'm using an external monitor to type this so I know the laptop's running fine. I'm wondering if I need a new screen, or is it something else? Thanks.

    Hello @Sachmo499 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your notebook keeps restarting and displays a black screen.
Here's a great place to start troubleshooting startup issues on a notebook:
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista) or Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8).
If you search for any notebook boot issues or black screen, regardless of the brand you will find this issue everywhere. There are currently no recalls for this product.
If you wish to have the notebook repaired I would suggest calling HP Phone Support for service/repair options. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
If you wish to remove the HDD and connect it to another computer to backup your info, you can follow this guide: Compaq Presario V6000 Notebook PC.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Compaq presario v6210US blank screen

I have a "compaq presario v6210US" which worked great for a while then it just shut itself off and restarted and the screen stayed black. Now it keeps restarting itself but the screen stays blakc. I can hear the fan and hard drive and everything else running the way it's supposed to. I heard that this has happened to a bunch of other people so it sounds like a defect to me. How do I get it fixed or do I just pull the hard drive, toss the Presario and get a competitors laptop?

  • Compaq Presario SR1330NX desktop. Black screen after restarting after recovery using disks

My Compaq presario SR1330NX desktop computer which has XP. Years ago I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. I ordered the recovery disks. I have done successful recoveries with them. Although it has been years. I did a recovery from disk. I dont think I did it correctly as it had been a while. Anyway, It never asked me for the 2nd disk, but it said the recovery was successful and to restart the computer. I thought that maybe it had made its own new recovery partition when using the disks before. So I restarted the computer and all I get is a black screen with compaq on it and some weird symbols in the left upper corner that look like
    >triangle,Divide sign,Square,upside down t with a line under it,zero and a weird looking capital B".
And it does NOTHING. I put disks in it does nothing. This is the only screen that comes up and nothing else works. What did I do? and How can I fix this?

Hello tinkyferret, The HP Recovery Restore disk set makes a new Recovery Partition when they are used to recover the system.
You might try the HP Recovery Restore procedure from the hard drive, if you have not, and see if it wil complete successfully.
Normally on a Compaq system, you press the F-10 key to enter the Recovery Restore utility.

  • Compaq Presario sr1720 nx goes directly to recovery & mouse & kyboard non-responsive

The compaq Presario sr1720nx does directly to recovery even though I  strike the F6 key or the escape key while the pc is booting up.  Once the recovery screen is on, there are three choices which can not be accessed since neither the keyboard nor the mouse respond.
I may be the culprit of the problem.  I looked on the internet to do a recovery without a disc.  The You tube video stated to use the F6 key at startup to go to the recovery console.  This proved fruitless.  When the compaq boots up, it states to strike the F8 key to initiate the recovery program.  Neither of them worked.
So, being a non tech person, I went to programs>accessories>microsoft tools>reset to an earlier date> and reset the start up to the recovery console.  My goal was to access the recovery console to do a destructive recovery.  This was done to hopefully fix the Compaq, which had not been used for a very long time.
Prior to this action, there was no problem with either the mouse or keyboard.
The end result was the computer boots up  directly to the recovery console providing three choices.  It also provides the choice of hitting the return key to end the recovery or escape to return to the normal windows XP operating system.
Initially, I had attempted to download the recovery discs for the Compaq to return to ground zero.
Hopefully, this may still be my option.  If anyone could be of assistance to a naive individual, he would be very appreciative.  As the saying goes, a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing.
    Respectfully yours, Mike

Are you using a PS/2 keyboard or a USB keyboard and mouse and are you able to perform hardware diagnostics through the BIOS?
See this on how to perform a recovery:

    Hi:
If you can still read the windows 7 product key on the bottom of your notebook you can make your own W7 installation disk.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
