Compaq Presario won't boot up

I took out the new hard drive from my daughters PC to try in one of our other models Compaq Presario's but it didn't fit so reinstalled it in my daughters PC. When I switched on it gave a message -  "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:"
It then gives instructions to check the hard drive and run Chkdsk /F but I can't boot up so can't do that.
I can't imagine what is wrong as I only removed the drive and then replaced it. I didn't drop or bang it.
Please help.
Regards,
Norman Silva.

Anyonw knows why my compaq 1200 won't turn on?
It doesn't even reach the boot screen, but the harddrive starts spinning. it seems to be a common problem, but there is no solution available online (unlike in these holy halls). thank god i also have a mac, so now i can write this mail

Oh! i need the laptop back because my mac doesn't recognize my garmin 12xl.
it's because i don't have the keyspan usb to serial adapter.
i on;ly have the digitus one and the driver doesn't seem to work.
so, if you don't know the c1200 one, i would accept alternative answers for how to get the digitus (prolific) adapter.

  • HP Compaq 6715s won't boot on battery after BIOS update

    Hello!
I updated the bios of my HP Compaq 6715s with the latest version F.0E I downloaded from HP support site.
Everything went fine, but now it won't boot on battery alone anymore. It just flashes amber light on power indicator and shuts down. If the charger is connected and later disconnected when it starts loading Windows, everything is fine.
Please help, what should I do?

    Hi:
You can try performing a hard reset of the notebook in hopes that it will solve the problem.
Here is the link to the instructions for this procedure.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01684768&prodT...
If that doesn't work, I'm afraid something went kerflooey with your BIOS udpate.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61 Wont Boot

So Like Most owners of the Presario, My Computer wont boot. Its a blank screen and the LED blinds towards BIOS Corruption but since I cant even get out the blank screen Any help would be very well indeed Helped. Below is Info and things I've Tried
    Computer Type: Compaq Presario CQ61-319WM
    Operating System: Windows 7
    Warranty: Gone
    Bought: 3 Years Ago
What Happened when this all started: I was drawing on photoshop, I closed it so it would go to sleep mode. I left the house for an hour to shop and come back to this blank screen and LED blinking Lights (Twice)
Last Six months had To System Restore Twice, An Update back in March made my computer not work so was forced to system restore.
    Things I've Tried:
*Hard Reset More than 5 times, nothing worked
    *Bought New Charger
    *Bought New Battery
*Removed/Reseated my two 2gb Ram sticks. Switched them
*Removed HDD/Battery to see if it Was the HDD
*Took apart computer before I knew it was the BIos to see if it was the moniter or if the wires got exposed or snapped
Than I tried to get into the BIOS Recovery, tried the Win button +B button/Power, f2 and f10. Nothing gets my computer off the blank screen.
I Think Ive gotten everything Down. Should I send it in even though it would be smarter to just buy a new computer? Im at a lost of what can be done . Almost Every person with this problem got fixed by Hard Reset.  I dont know how to deal with BIOS. So Please Help If You can.

  • Compaq CQ61 won't boot, 2 led blinks.

Product Name and NumberCompaq Presario CQ61-310SA Operating System installed (if applicable)None Error message (if any)LED flashes twice before pausing and repeating. Indicates BIOS corruption. Any changes made to your system before the issue occuredBeen inactive for 10 months due to having no power cable, I purchased a 3rd party power cable for it today. ProblemHello, as I stated above, my laptop has been inactive for 10 months and only today I decided to finally get a charger for it, which set me back £5.99, clearly a low quality charger but I was unsure if the laptop even worked anymore and didn't want to splash out on a manufacturer charger. When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED indicator next to the charger port lights up, but with the battery installed the charge LED inbetween the Power and HDD LED's flashes 4 times, on the 4th flash it holds for about a second then discontinues the blinks. When powered up the backlight and LCD do not turn on and the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED's flash twice before pausing and repeating and the WiFi light glows orange. I can hear the HDD and fan spinning but the BIOS isn't initiated. I understand this error code refers to BIOS corruption and have attempted a hard reset, holding the power for 15 seconds as stated on some websites, then 30 as stated on others, and finally 60 seconds, as well as replacing the BIOS battery, HDD and memory modules to no avail... It doesn't seem as if the battery is charging at all, but it is completely empty so I'll leave it for a while to see if it does charge. Is this anything to do with the fact I bought a cheap chinese charger? Or would I have to replace the motherboard? AC AdapterName: WeiXin Da Electronics AC Adapter - PA-1700-02Input: 100-240v ~ 1.8AOuput: 18.5V ~ 3.5A Many thanks, Jordan.

This is a phenomenon of these computers.
If you have a computer that won't boot, remove battery, unplug charger. Press powerbutton for at least 20 seconds, insert the power cable, and hold for another 20 seconds. Nothing will seem to happen. Then press power again.
Your LiION battery is close to end of life. Replace. Or get used to doing this. Diag software will warn for failed battery. You will also have a ton of BIOS messages about an obscure error occuring. But you need to have a working Diag partition to make some sense of the meaningless error reported in BIOS.
This has nothing to do with the RTC/NVRAM backup. But it's no reason to not replace it. It costs about 3$ and you can find a 2032 Lithium cell almost everywhere. (3V, 20mm diameter, 3,2mm thick). Located under the harddrive bay cover on the bottom of computer.
If no boot occurs, check that the "lid closed" switch is working. In some environments they can get stucked in "Lid closed" position.
Also if you have access to a can of compressed air (duster), clean the airflow / cooling part from accumulated dust.
These are not exactly the most energy saving computers. They get hot. I have seen examples of plastic chassie parts melting.

  • Compaq Presario CQ71-420SM booting problems

    Hi,
i have problem with Compaq Presario CQ71-420SM.
    Laptop wont start.
Checked power adapter (green - constant) light is on. Checked on laptop where power adapter enters laptop (white constant) light is on. Changed power adapters. Tried with and without battery inserted same result.
Removed the ram that is left one module than replaced it with second, tryed to change slots with both modules. no result.
Laptop be it on battery or without one but with power plugged in needs about 10 sec to eaven spin cooler/s and promptly shuts down - blank screen all the time.
Now ONLY when battery and power adapter is in i get white led flashes (led located lower left from touchpad - not the one near where i plug in power cord) in following durations:
    - = short duration of led light
-- = normal duration of led light
--- = long duration of led light
    1) -- -- -- -
    2) -- -- -- --
    3) -- -- -- ---
than fiew moments pause and all over again
i have read somewhere that this is most likely vga failure now can You please verify this for me or give me valid info on what can it be or what should i look for?
i have looked for error codes on fiew laptops, could not find specialy for this one but this is one of the links

  • Compaq Presario C700 needs boot disk

Just replaced the hard drive in a Presario C700 and do not have a boot disk for it. How/where can I get one?

    Hi
Easiest way is to contact HP in your local region and explain to the agent you need recovery media for  your model machine ,  there will be a cost involved for the recovery media HP will supply .  Once you receive the recovery media then change the BIOS setup to boot from CD/DVD and then the machine will boot from the disks and re-install Windows and drivers for your product .
                                                  Hope This Helps

  • HP Compaq dc7700 won't boot up. Beeps continuously and is stuck at the Windows loading screen.

My computer is a HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower desktop computer. The operating system is a Windows 7 32-bit.
When I try to boot up my desktop it just has the continuous beeping noise, there's no real pattern or red light. About 5 days ago I got a blue screen, but ignored it since when I rebooted it the pc worked fine. The only big change I've amde recently is installing World of Warcraft on the computer, other than that I don't remember making any big changes to the computer at all.

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how your notebook computer is not able to boot into the BIOS, that the CAPS lock is blinking, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To find out the meaning of the blinking light sequence, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps. This should help determine the cause of the blank screen, as well as the interpretation for the blinking CAP locks light.
Please re-post with the specific blinking-light pattern with the CAP locks light, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Compaq nx7400 won't boot

I have a Compaq nx7400 EY305ET notebook with WIn XP Pro and a recovery partition. Last time I rebooted it wouldn't. It reboots after 5 seconds in an endless loop and when I press F11 (Start recovery) it shows the bar at the bottom initializing the recovery and the logo with an XP-similar animated "loading" bar. 2 seconds later I get a blue screen:
"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down"
And this happens EVERY time. I've tried the WIn+B+power to restore the BIOSg the  and I've downloaded the "HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ" and installed it on an empty, FAT32 formatted USB drive as HP suggest on their support website, but with no different result what so ever.
I even renamed the USB drive "HP_TOOLS" and tried again and then I renamed the installed folder containing the update to "HP_TOOLS", just in case, but nothing works.  The screen remains black and empty.
And this is as far as I get. Suggestions anyone...?
I can also be reached at egw[at]live.se
I REALLY need to get this running. I have 2 days of important work I need to access. (And yes, I forgot to backup the last 2 days. My mistake)

    Hi:
See if making this free bootable rescue CD will allow you to explore the hard drive and copy any files you need to a portable hard drive.
Download an instructions below.  Use the graphic interface to explore the hard drive.

Once you get the files off, order a set of recovery disks from HP by calling the number listed for business PC's/notebooks at the link below (0771-30 30 00)

  • Compaq Presario 6150b wont boot - no BIOS screen - powers on and off repeatedly

Hi, i bought a 6150b from a company auction. Everything worked perfect for the longest time. Then last week i went to go turn it on, and all it does is run the CPU fan for a couple seconds, flash the AC LED about 7 - 8 times, and while thats flashing the power and hard drive LED’s stay solidly lit. Then it completely turns off. This all lasts about 3 seconds at the most. That’s what happens when on battery power.
When on AC power, the same thing happens, except it continues doing the cycle over and over again until I unplug it.
I think it might have something to do with the LCD monitor, since it does not even show a slight flicker at all.  No color change like it would from when turned off to a black back lit screen when turning on….simply nothing.
I opened her up (no warranty anyways) and checked all the connections for the keyboard, monitor, DVD drive etc....also reseated them as well, with no luck.
Pulled the both RAM modules and reseated them as well, nothing.
Pulled the battery as well, no change.  Still cycles the same over and over again while on AC
There are no audible errors codes  (real nice HP...), and im lost at this point.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to boot Compaq Presario CQ40-340TU

Hi I have a Compaq Presario CQ40-340TU laptop. My problem is that I can't boot. I already change the harddisk since there are bad sector. Then when I connect my new hard disk, the laptop can not detect it, so i try connecting the new hardisk on my desktop, and installed Vista for the OS. When I return the new harddisk with installed Vista OS, I still can't boot the laptop.
I also try to boot the new hard disk in my desktop,it works fine. So i think there's some problem on my laptop?
Anybody know what seems to be the problem? Please help

check whether the HDD is dtected in the BIOS or not !  do that by tapping F10 while the NB boots...if the hdd is not detected then u need to get another hdd....if the hdd is detected then run the self test.....if no error comes then take the NB along with the HDD and ask for the compatibility at the store...

There were no changes made to the computer, prior to the restore the computer would boot up, however, it would freeze after the system was up and running. Hello crossurmind.
What sorts of issues led up to the computer originally not booting? Were you getting a lot of blue screen errors?
The two items you posted from the error log seem to indicate that it is having trouble reading the hard drive and possibly the memory. After trying the restore it seems that it failed causing the boot section of the install to "not be found."
I think you should begin by using the built in tests for the hard drive and memory located in the BIOS. Follow this document to perform the hard drive test. All you'll have to do is repeat the process and select "memory" in order to perform the memory test. Make sure to post the result of both of these tests.
I will await the results; have a great day!
