Compaq Prosignia Server 720

Hi Folks,
One quick question: Has anybody been successful installing the above machine with Solaris 7? I found that the disk assistant discover the SCSI card (Compaq 53c876) and can see two disks, but when you go deeper in the instalation, the instalation processs tells you that no disks has been found and the installation is aborted (just before the fdisk).
Sounds familiar ?
Any help will be appreciated.

You should be able to find the parts information by going to the link below and clicking on "Parts Information" on the left. This should load the HP Parts Store. If this is the first time going to the parts store, you will need to select the region appropriate for your location. Once that is done, you should have a screen that gives you a few different ways of loading the information. Enter the product name Prosignia 165 and click the double arrow icon. On the next screen, click show all parts for this device. The next screen should list the HP part numbers and the corresponding parts.

If that does not give you the information you need, then I would try the business forums found below.

  • Compaq ProSignia 165 Replacement Parts

    I have an old Compaq ProSignia 165 laptop, and I need some new parts for it. The CD drive is spotty, no matter how many times I clean it, reconnect it and so on. The keyboard is a little messed up, as it is bent and I don't want to damage it. What are the part numbers so I can find new parts for it on something like eBay?

  • Trying to unload a Sun Server & 720 Gig RAID

    Trying not to be too obnoxious about this, but...
    I was trying to get an venture off the ground and it fell through. Spent alot of time on these boards as I got Oracle running on Linux then Solaris. I now have a 4 CPU / 4 gig sun server an a 720 gig RAID collecting dust in my basement and my wallet is significantly lighter. If anyone is interested in picking up some fully operational equipment, let me know. I will sell it for much less than it is currently listed if I get to the end of the auction without any bids.

    Sorry for the spam. I am not a company selling products, just a shithead out a bucket of $ with a server in my basement.

    Ina dddition to some config errors, It appears that your server is not communicating with the cluster admin. Verify that you can communicate via http to the port that your admin server is running the console application on. You may need to start your admin server manually if its not configured to look for that particular adress you can do this with the following command.
              /opt/bea/domains/mydomain/bin/startManagedWebLogic.sh myManagedServerName "http://10.6.2.34:8001" >> myserver.log 2>1&

  • Problems after patching...

    Yesterday I ran bunch of patches to my Solaris 10 x86 server and after some succesfully installed patches I got following error
    ld.so.1: chmod: fatal: libsec.so.1: version `SUNW_1.2' not found (required by file /usr/bin/chmod)
    ld.so.1: chmod: fatal: libsec.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
    and now all commands which are related to patching are useless :(
    What to do ? Server is running now somehow but is quite unstable...

    Hi... I had the same issue over the weekend when I started patching my Solaris 10 Compaq Prosignia 720 server. I ended up rebuilding the machine from scratch (hope you still have the original CDs used for installating Solaris 10 the first time... ;-). All is OK now but I have spent many hours in this task. This is what I have learned from that experience:
    1-) Patches of type 1188XX-XX (such as 118822-xx, 118844-xx) are the most probable cause of systems not starting up after applying kernel-family type of patches (which I think they all are 1188....)
    2-) It is easy to exclude these patches from being installed when using "smpatch" tool (which I think is the best patching tool out there). All you have to do is pipe the output of the "smpatch analyze" command-option to a file, exclude all potential troublesome patches for your given hardware by deleting its entry from the text file, and then issuing "smpatch download" to download only the patches specified in the file. (As a disclaimer I have to mention that these type of patches must be there for a reason, however I have not been able to find out how to install them without corrupting my system)
    3-) I did break my file in "clusters" of related patches, this way I could identify if a given patch would give me trouble later on. In my experience no patch gave me trouble except for the 1188XX-xx family of patches.
    4-) Also keep in mind that "smpatch analyze" and "smpatch download" can be used in "init 5" mode, however "smpatch add" (which actually adds the patches to the system) must be run in "init 1" mode.

    INFO: disconnected</i>
    I have searched the forums for this problem and I didn't find something about the specific crash (not enough files...) although I see that it is something common for the VM to crash at that step for various other reasons...
    I use jdk-1.4.2_12 but I have also tried jdk-1.4.2_09 and jdk-1.4.2_08 (as recommended in some articles) with no success.
    My hardware platform is a compaq 6500 server with 1GB RAM,  52GB disk space, 1GB swap.
    Currently (after db creation & ABAP loading) the remaining free disk space is 6GB (enough I think to complete the installation). The java and oracle processes seem to fit with no problem in the current resource limits (memory + swap).
    I don't think that it is a resource limit problem (user limits - file descriptors & processes -  have been defined as needed). I have read that it might be a JDBC Oracle driver problem but I have already patched Oracle to 10.2.0.2...
    I would very much appreciate any of your ideas, as my installation is stuck there...

    Hello Matthias. At first, thanks for your answer.
    I don't think that what you mention is the problem cause the kernel parameters are set up accordingly. Here is my sysctl.conf:
    <i>kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmax = 2313682943
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 1024
    kernel.msgmni = 1024
    fs.file-max = 65536
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
    net.core.rmem_default = 1048576
    net.core.rmem_max = 1048576
    net.core.wmem_default = 262144
    net.core.wmem_max = 262144</i>
    As for the currently open files this is what I get when I
    <i>cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
    2550    0       65536</i>
    And as for current user limits for file descriptors
    <i>ulimit -n
    65536
    </i>
    As for oracle I don't get an error ORA-1118 that would declare that something happens with oracle file limits. Anyway in my control files there is
    MAXDATAFILES = db_files = 254 while the database has only 19 files for the corresponding SAP tablespaces
    Anyway I keep trying... Any other ideas?

  • Is Solaris 9 Intel mature enough for serious usage?

    Hello everyone,
    I'm a Solaris newbie. I downloaded Solaris 8 Intel and installed a few times with and without success since Sun first released version 8 for free download. I had sucessfully installed Solaris 8 on Compaq Proliant Server and IBM Intel Xseries (with bad video) but failed on Dell PowerEdge (due to the lack of RAID and SCSI dirver or I didn't know where to get the drivers my hardware.
    The reason I posed the question is that the System Requirement Note states the Solaris 9 x86 OE Customer Early Access software is not suitable for deployment on any production systems.
    Is the current release of version 9 stable or final release? I'd rather not waste my bandwidth, time (It'd take me 3 days to download 3 iso images), CDs for beta releases.
    Please advise me.
    Thanks.
    Trent

    Depends on what you mean by "serious usage". Like right now, it provides a electronic place for me to dump my school work to instead of bringing disks or blank CDs.
    Overall, it's an alright system. Though, Solaris 9 was a little more difficult to set up on my old computer (probably more because of the computer itself rather than the software.)
    But, I did it. Installed Solaris 9 on 32 MB of RAM on a Pentium MMX 166.

  • Db link from oracle 9i to 8i

    hi,
    we have two databases one is 9i versin 9.2.0.1.0 and another one is 8i version 8.1.6.0.0.we had created database link from 9i to 8i.that link is working fine in SQL*PLUs. we are able to execute the transaction.but when we use the dblink in our forms application.forms giving the ora-600 error during compilation.
    One more thing before going for production environment on compaq alpha server. we tested the whole application on windows NT 4.0 platform.we had no issue.
    So can anybody throw some light on this.

  • Is it as easy as Mac OS always?

    Hi, I have leased a virtual server by a hosting provider and the virtual server runs Debian Linux with a user management interface from confixx. That is as easy as I like, but it is OK.
    Now I found a hosting provider which leases me a Mac OS X Snow Leopard server running on a Xserve for only 49 Euro per month. The vhost has 2 GB of RAM and 60 GB of userspace. That sound good.
    But I am not sure if Mac OS X SL is the right webserver for me, because I do not wan't make settings at all, only some simple steps for creating my sites and thats it. What I have is this: few domains which do have only static content created with iWeb, one site with Wordpress running on and another site with Pixaria, a gallery script, both running PHP. Both need some special setting in PHP as mod_rewrite or for uploading larger files max_execution time and so on. ImageMagick would be nice but GD lib is OK. I can't remember all at the moment, how many more extras I needed for PHP sites.
    How easy will it be, to use Mac OS X SL for this purposes?
    Will I be better in using a Linux Server with a graphical user management as before?

    It all depends on your needs for your proposed site(s).. I've currently got a HP/Compaq Proliant server in my garage (a great hardware platform by the way -- VERY redundant hw) that runs FreeBSD8 (I used to run Fedora Core Linux). Anyway, in transferring all of my stuff over from F8 to MacOSX Server, I've found that the vast majority of the admin features are pretty well thought out.. If you need more esoteric features, then some of the admin features may be limiting as some of the features of a product (e.g. Postfix) may not be present in the Apple GUI. I'm still working on Apache's config so I'm not sure I'm the best to answer for it just yet.
    Anyway, that's my $0.02 worth.. Both of them are more than capable of getting your generic Apache site running and serving PHP or similar sites.. The Linux Admin GUI thing depending on what it offers may not do everything you want either and you may find the need to edit files by hand anyway.. YMMV!

  • URGENT: Oracle 10g License Purchase Issue

    Dear All,
    I have a small environment of around 50 desktops with Compaq Proliant Server. The Server machines are normally coming with dual processor. Now I am looking for Oracle Processor Based license as we are going to deploy our in-house built application (in D2K) there. I want to purchase processor-based license instead of per user base license keeping in view our possible future expansion. Due to my Server machine that has two processors, I have to purchase two Oracle 10g processor based licenses that cost us too much.
    Can I use one processor-based license for my Server Machine? Kindly advise.
    Thanks
    Zia

    Hi Yoann,
    Thanks for response, actually we have recently purchased that Server machine and now a days every server machine is coming with dual processor. So, offcourse we have paid for that but in Oracle case, they are charging per CPU that is why it is becoming double cost for me.
    Anyway I have no idea about it that is why im asking the legal issues over it if it is illigle then I have to go for per user licenses or licenses for two CPUs. Thanks
    Zia

  • Joined the club -no install :(

    Hi.
    Seems I just joined the (seemingly) large group of ppl failing the tests of pain given by solaris 8 x86 installation.
    My sys: Compaq proliant 800 (pentium pro 200, single), 96 RAM. NCR5*** SCSI (not used, but properly terminated), Compaq Array 2/P Raid Controller with two 4,3 Gb physical Disks. Oh, and a cirrus gfx-card, two NIC's (netflex-3 and Asante, which is tulip compliant) plus a IDE cdrom.
    except for the extra nic, its more or less a standard config. Old but great (I've had it serving RH 5.2, RH 6.0, Mandrake 7.1, NT 4,NT 4 TSE, and WIN 2K + Citrix)
    The array is set as primary controller. The NCR is disabled. The IDE is set to secondary.
    created 1 array, raid 0.
    Splitted the array into 3 logical disks. (so no disk would be larger then 8 Gb).
    booted with installation CD. DCA starts just fine. recognizes all hardware. great. step 2. it complains about no primary disk found, but gives me an alternate path. asks if this is ok. ok.
    step 3. web install. a couple of error messages, all related to @pci/something/something.
    no disks supported bla,bla,bla......
    second computer: normal ide only. blank disk, all fine.
    what gives ?
    I am not exactly a newbie in terms of system setups. 1st time solaris though. never thought i'd have such a hard time with it...
    -read the 'solaris is for birds' post. Cant help but heartily agree with mr dougee there...

    I think we had a similar problem with a compaq dl360 server. The
    driver update diskettes from compaq solved the problem, see:

    (There's even a recent update release dated 14 Nov 2000)

  • 8i, W2k and SP1 - Oracle won't run

    I have a Compaq ML370 server running Windows 2000 server. I run 8i EE, release 2 (8.1.6). If I install W2K SP1, then the Oracle service won't start. It sits on 'starting'. The 'Listener' service and the 'Web Assistant' services both start. If I remove SP1, it all works correctly.
    With SP1, I can't log on to the Oracle instance through DBA Studio either. Without SP1, not a problem.
    I need to put SP1 on so I can update some security setting for W2K.
    I tried W2K SP2 and the same thing happened.

    Eureka! The problem was the oracle build, which apparently has been fixed in a newly released Oracle build for x86_64. I guess the earlier x86 build didn't
    have something that was needed for this new system. The new build works great.

  • SLoader Question - Error

    Hi all,
    would like to use ZfS 6.5 MMS. Installed the product for testing on VMware
    and physical no name machines some times with no errors.
    Now on a HP/Compaq ML370 Server Machine, when starting the sloader.ncf the
    system begins with
    <----- Initializing sloader -------> ... and nothing else!
    It only loads the jncpv2.nlm and than stops. There is nothing to find in
    the Log files, they are empty, no error messages on the console. Startet
    the box twice to ensure everything is ready. Installed ZfS 6.5 SP1a -
    does'nt matter...
    It's a NW 6.0 / SP5 box.
    Did someone experiaence the same problem?
    Greetings
    David

    Sorry Jared, this is MMS, so the log is in ZENWORKS\MMS\LOGFILES\SLOADER
    Do you have a replica on the server?
