Compare iPod to itunes and transfering from iPod to iTunes

Does anyone know if a way I can see a comparision between what is on my iPod and what is in my iTunes library?
I basically want to see everything that is in my library but not on my iPod.
Also does anyone know of a way to eaisly transfer music from my iPod to my iTunes library? I just got a new computer and now all my music is in my iPod but I can't get it on my new computer and into the iTunes library.

To transfer songs from your iPod to iTunes,
Connect the iPod to the computer, open iTunes, you will get a message "do you want to link to this iTunes music library", say "no" to this. Change the syncing option to "manually manage songs and playlists".
In iTunes, click on Edit and then click on Preferences.
Click on the advanced tab, and select the "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library". Click OK.
Then, click file, add folder to library, select the iPod and then click open.
When the update is complete, go back into Edit, Preferences, Advanced, and uncheck the "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library".

  • Reversed or swapped frame glitch in clips logged and transferred from GH2

    Hi
When I log and transfer 24p AVCHD footage from my panasonic GH2 in FCE I'm getting occasional swapped, backwards or reversed frames - it appears as a movement glitch in the final video file. What is happening is that every few minutes, I see this pattern: two frames will be swapped (they are in reverse order) then one frame where it should be, then another two that are swapped (or in reverse order).
I can't figure out a pattern as to when it happens, but it happens in the same place every time i transcode, even if i set different in/out points. Shows up when the resulting AIC files are played in quicktime player also.
However this glitch does NOT show up when i play the original AVCHD file from the camera in the log and transfer window or in VLC - so its not the camera's fault - it's FCE's transcoder.
You can fix it by just re-arranging the frames when editing, but its really annoying to try to find them all when you're editing a long project like a concert.
    Anyone else have this problem?
Or can anyone recommend a good and inexpensive 3rd party app to transcode my footage assuming I can't fix this in FCE?
    Thanks!

Actually it does support 24fps media, it just doesn't let you edit on a 24fps timeline, which makes working with 24fps media annoying - you end up with duplicated frames and therefore somewhat jerky motion.
But, what actually is coming out of the camera is this particular case is a 29.97fps video "labeled" as 24fps @ 80% speed - (I dunno - ask panasonic why they did that…). When you edit the headers of the resulting quicktime movie, you can get a 29.97fps 1080p video that works great in FCE's 1080p30 timeline (albeit without sound because the GH2 does not record it in this mode).
I could see that maybe FCE has a problem logging and capturing 24p footage since it does not support 24p timelines, but more likely seems to me like maybe an incompatibility with the AVCHD format in which the GH2 is shooting.
I'm trying out clipwrap, but unfortunately the demo wont go far enough into my clip to test if it fixes this glitch! (1 min time limit) Neither will the VoltaicHD demo.

  • Colors get desaturated when picked and transferred from one file to the other! Why?

I used the color picker tool to choose colors from one file and fill it in another file. The color shows as desaturated when the other file is active. Both files are on the exact same settings, but I don't know what is happening. I reset the tools. But nothing.

Are you sure that mode (RGB, CMYK, etc) and assigned color profiles is the same on both files?
May be you turn on Proof Privew (Ctrl-Y) on one of the files.

  • Log and Transfer from network volume causes FCE to crash

I have copied the contents of an SD taken from a Canon HF100 to a volume mounted on my network. Originally, this was only intended as a means of back-up but I found I needed to capture additional footage so I navigated to the volume in the Log and Transfer window and began ingesting clips. The first clip worked just fine but the Log and Transfer window hung about 1/3 of the way into the second. I can preview all the clips in the L&T window but the program crashes when I ingest. The clips vary in length but that does not seem to be a factor in the problem. I tried this on both a Tiger machine and a Snow Leopard machine with the same results. iMovie was able to ingest the footage over the network without the same problem. Ultimately I moved the footage back to a local drive and transferred from there without any issues at all. This issue involves a great many layers but if anyone has had a similar issue I would be interested to hear.

We just had a longish discussion about networks and capture/editing.
    Bottom line:
The slowest component in the network stream is the speed the network runs and not necessarily both ways. Check the specs of your specific gear.
I suspect this to be your problem. Here's a short extract.
    Networking Limitations:
    * When accessing the WD My Book World hard drives remotely using MioNet/WD Anywhere Access, please be aware that the transfer rate will be limited by whatever the slowest connection is. For instance, upstream rates for home users is typically no more than 512Kbps, even if the downstream rate is 4Gbps.
    * If there is heavy I/O load put on the network and WD My Book World hard drive, it is recommended that a static IP address be used rather than DHCP.
Another thing of note was to use CAT 6 cable.

  • Transfering from ipod to itunes libary

    hi there
my pc completely crashed out,on geting it fixed i re downloaded itunes and my libary is blanc,is there a way of transfering all the stuff on my ipod classic into my itunes libary.
    yours hopeingly,
    t.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

can anyone help with retrieving My Library in Itunes and Itunes store - having updated Itunes and Icloud on 24 September 13, my computer failed and I lost all my files which were eventually backed up to an Emergency Backup.  my computer is now working again and I have down loaded Itunes and transferred all the files from my Emergency Backup.  Non of the music went back into Itunes, so I had to find these files and manually moved them to Itunes.  The music is now in Itunes, but I no longer have the folder named My Library, which I think is the reason my Ipad, ipod no longer sync any additional music I have added to Itunes. Does anyone know how to rectify this please.
    Many thanks.  Crusey

iTunes expects files and folders to be in very specific locations.  When you start iTunes it looks for a file called library.itl which is in the iTunes folder.  It then uses all the references in that file which tell it where all your media files are located to build up the view you normally see.  Probably you moved the library file so iTunes cannot find it and it will make a default one which is empty.  When you plug in your iPod it isn't recognizing the library since it is not the same one to which you synced last.
Simply put, you need to undo all your file moves.  Not as eaily done as stated but since I cannot quite see from here exactly what you spent an hour doing last night it will be up to you.  Did you make a backup before doing all this?

  • Old Hard Drive Fried! How To Add Photos and Music from iPod to iTunes

Hello! I'm in serious need of some help.
My old hard drive died without any warning, so I lost everything that was on it. Luckily, my iPod is full of very important photos and all of my music.
How do I transfer these images and mp3s into iTunes on my new computer?
I've lost everything else, so the last thing I want to do is lose the only photos I have left along with the gigs and gigs of music I spent months gathering and organizing.
Please let me know the surest way to transfer these images and music files from my iPod into iTunes.
Thank you so much for your help! This event has saddened and exhausted me completely.

  • When i got a new PC and transferred ITunes, when i tried to sync my 3G nano, it keeps saying 100 files can't be found and I can't get my checked songs to sync.  Is it a problem with software or my ipod or ???  I am leaving on a long trip in a week

When I got my new computer and transferred I tunes my songs in my play list play on my computer, but when I try to sync to my 3g Ipod, it only syncs a few albums and gives me a message that 100 song files can't be found.  So only half of what I want is on my Ipod.  I leave on a long trip now and really need the Ipod full of my music.  I've tried reloading some CDs and replacing the old ones on there, but still they won't sync.  What do I do?

You need to copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The iphone will sync itunes content and pics with one and only one computer at a time.  If you sync to another, then it will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
The music sync is one - way -computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a blank computer, then they will be erased as well.
Copy everything from the old computer.

  • IPod Touch stops syncing and disappears from iTunes

I have a problem with an iPod Touch 8GB: when connecting it to a MacBook, it starts syncing and transferring songs, but after a while it just stops syncing and disappears from iTunes. The iPod will still show "sync in progress", and it will still show up in the System Profiler, but not in iTunes.
If I cancel the sync from the iPod, the song library will be inaccessible ("Cancelling sync" or whatever it says) until I unplug the USB cable. If I keep trying (by unplugging and re-plugging it in), it will eventually finish syncing all songs, but it takes ages that way.
I have tried 2 different USB cables and upgraded to firmware 1.1.5 (it was 1.1.4 before). Any ideas?

I have upgraded to 2.0.1 and the latest itunes as of today and still have the exact same issue. I have even tried the following with no luck :
    1. Restart the ipod after this occurs and then sync again.
    2. Deleted my entire list of Music and Videos from itunes and reloaded them back.
    3. Formatted and Reinstalled Windows and tried syncing again.
Thanks to this issue, i dont even have a single song or Video on my ipod....
    Can someone please Help.

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

  • How do I get music videos, tv shows, and movies from my iTunes onto my iPod touch?

I just bought the 32 G iPod touch bc I read online that the 8G holds 2000 songs plus other stuff and the 32G holds 8000 songs plus more. I have 3000 songs on my iTunes and for some reason it said it won't hold more than 2600. Also I can't figure out to put the music videos, tv shows, and movies from my iTunes synced onto my iPod touch. Help?

The advertised number of songs an iPod can hold is based on set factors such as the encoding for each song and the length for each song.
Transferring movies is selected under the Movies tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.
Transferring TV Shows is selected under the TV Shows tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.
Include Music Videos is selected under the Music tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.

  • Not all songs transferred from iTunes to iPod

iPod touch 3G, intel iMac (Leopard).
The iTunes library has just been rebuilt with all files present and correct, cover art etc and AFAIK all tunes play OK. (Took ages, but it's all good!)
    1. Removed all songs from iPod
    2. Updated OS to 5.0.1
    3. Synced all music to iPod from iTunes. At the start I got a message saying that "This computer is not authorised to play some songs and they will not be transferred". However the iMac is of course authorised, and all the songs were either bought through iTunes on the iPod and transferred (over the last 2 years) or bought direct to the iMac, or ripped from personal CDs.
    4. Unchecked "sync all songs", switched to "manually manage music" and put them on manually. Same result but without the above message apperaing.
There's 7503 songs on iTunes and only 7431 on the iPod.
    Two questions:
Does anyone know why this should be?
Is there an easy way of finding out which songs are missing? I've checked the ones I remember purchasing on the iPod originally, and they're all there.

You go to iTunes>file>move folder 2 library then you slect the folder your songs that you downloaded r in and click ok.
And more you can follow this tutorial about how to tranfer music from computer to iPod.
    Cheer.

  • Songs not transferring from iTunes to iPod puzzle

I update my iPod fairly regularly (mostly for podcasts) and I've noticed recently that a small number of songs aren't being transferred to my iPod when I sync it.
I converted one song that wasn't transferring from an mp3 format to an aac but still no joy. The songs play fine in iTunes and I've tried a manual update in just transferring the one song but that hasn't worked either.
    Any ideas anyone?

The songs that are not appearing on your ipod, are they from artists that you have multiple songs? If so, I believe I might know the problem. There is a bug, and I will explain it the simplest way I know how to.
Let's say that I have 3 songs by Led Zeppelin, "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", and "Moby Dick". Now, if I gave "Black Dog" a album title, and I left the other two blank, on your ipod it will skip the album select screen and go straight to "Black Dog", preventing you from selecting the other two. This will also happen if you have 2 songs (let's say "Whole Lotta Love" and "Moby Dick") labeled with the same album title, while your other songs are unlabeled.
To fix this problem, you must either give another song from the specific artist a different album title from the other labeled ones. Then the ipod will go to the album select screen, and allow you to select "All" which will display all of your labeled and unlabeled songs.
    I hope this helps.
