  • Compare performance with EJB2.x and Spring2.x

Hi i am planning to migrate my application from EJB2.x to Spring2.x,
i am using weblogic as an Application server.
what about the performance when compared to EJB nd Spring2.x?
    kasim

impossible to say. And kinda exercise pointlesstoo,
Spring isn't a 1:1 replacement for EJB.why it is impossible? since EJB uses application
container, which in tern calls many steps inside, i
hope surely performance will be less when compared to
Spring.Forget it. This sounds like classic premature performance worries. The question cannot be answered, because there is no definitive "Spring is quicker than Weblogic" to be said. It depends wholly on your own app. Do some testing. But in all honesty, in an enterprise app, with HTTP traffic going all over the place, and browsers drawing things, users sitting around playing with buttons, databases being accessed and all other manner of things, a few extra method calls inside a container is small potatoes in comparison. Guessing at the performance isn't what you should be looking at. Getting a working application written is.
Not to mention, of course, that those extra method calls may well be optimized away by the JVM anyway. Spring isn't stingy with it's indirection, either

  • Comparing performance between TDE encryption and no encryption

    Hi all,
How can i check, how much database resource (%CPU, Time elapsed) increased when using TDE encryption.
    Thank you!
    Dan.
Edited by: Dan on Jul 10, 2011 10:13 PM

The performance implications of using TDE are going to depend on a number of factors including
    - The version of Oracle
    - The hardware available (in particular whether hardware acceleration is available for encryption)
    - Whether you are using tablespace encryption or column-level encryption
    - If you are using column-level encryption how many columns you are encrypting
    - What sort of workload your system is doing.
    - Where your system bottlenecks today without encryption
Without knowing those things, it's hard to narrow down the answer to somewhere between 0 and 50% which is, obviously, far too large a range to be meaningful.
On the one hand, the worst case is probably represented by this test case where you're using column-level encryption of one column of a two column table in 10.2 and doing single-row inserts and deletes. Those operations are already heavily CPU bound and, since you're using column-level encryption, the data has to be encrypted and decrypted every time it goes into or out of the SGA. If you were using tablespace-level encryption, the data would only need to be encrypted and decrypted when it is read from or written to the disk which would be far faster in for this test case. Later versions of Oracle also tend to be more efficient.
On the other hand, if you're using 11.2 with the most recent patches and you've got hardware acceleration, Oracle is happy to trumpet the [urlhttp://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/advanced-security/index-099011.html]near-zero performance impact of TDE.
Most people live somewhere between these two extremes but it's hard to guess where your particular application falls. I would guess that most people would see something like a 10-15% increase in CPU consumption but that's just a wild guess based on a relatively small sample of systems.

  • Sun Studio 12 on SPARC: Missing Symlinks

    Missing Library Symlinks
On SPARC systems, when installing Sun Studio 12 from the "tarball" download, some important symlinks might not get installed. This could cause linker errors or strange runtime behavior from compiled programs.
Here is how you can tell if the symlinks are missing and how to create them:
    If the command:
    ls <install-directory>/SUNWspro/lib/sparcgets the result

  • Performance comparision between java and c++ in games (openGL)

    Hi everyone,
I was working on java 3D and JOGL as part of my graphics openGL homework. Most of my classmates stuck to GLUT in c,c++ for programming stating that java is slow. I did attend a few seminars on java, java swing etc, they stated that java is faster now. I was wondering if there is a tool of some sort to compare performance, frame rate , time to compile etc. The closest I could find was a java memory leak finding tool used to detect memory leaks in java programs.
    Thanks,
    A

compilation time is irrelevant in measuring program performance.
There have been numerous "benchmarks" comparing C++ with other languages (including Java), usually by people who have an agenda and need data to "prove" their position to the world.
The best you can do is get experts in each language and toolkit to write programs that do the same and are optimised to the same degree, then run those programs side by side on identical hardware for a period of time and see for yourself.
Remember of course that JVM startup time is longer than startup time for native compiled C++ applications, so you need to run the program for a good period to get reliable figures (hours to be entirely sure).
Do that for each part of the toolkit you're interested in using separately and make your own decisions based on the results.
I know this is time consuming and hard to set up, which is precisely why it's probably not been done reliably (people who care to prove that something is faster than something else don't bother to be impartial, those that don't care don't bother to go to the trouble to do something they don't care about).

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/05/23/glossy-vs-matte-screens-why-the-pc-indus trys-out-of-touch/
    Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future.

  • Performance with 2GB RAM and SSD

I own a late 2010 MBA, 13" baseline model with 2GB RAM, w/SSD.  I am using Snow Leopard, and it runs perfectly.  I would like to upgrade to ML to sync with ipad, but a concerned with performance.  I use my MBA for word processing, emails, and internet surfing, including occasional movie downloads.  I cannot upgrade the RAM on this model.  I would therefore very much appreciate if someone who has run the latest versio of ML on this model can inform me of its performance w/2GB RAM and an SSD drive.  (I know it can run; I want to know how it runs).  Thanks very much!

Just went through the same situation with my 2006 iMac. Technically my memory tops out at 3gigs, but I can get 4 in there if I insist (though the machine won't take full advantage).
After a considerable amount of research, and hearing some horror stories of some folks who dove straight into Lion on older machines, I opted on upgrading memory to 3gig, backing up all my data, then running a clean install of Snow Leopard. I then reinstalled all my stuff, followed with a run of Monolingual (a shareware program that removes unnecessary languages and builds), then ran OnyX (another shareware) to run scripts and check/repair permissions.
Works fantastic. Machine is operating perfectly on 10.6.8 and with the memory upgrade and clean drive its running faster than ever. Definite new breath of life in the machine.
As per memory upgrade, I'd recommend going to Crucial. They're very Mac friendly, customer oriented, and reasonably priced. They have a small program you can download that scans your machine to determine the correct chip required, then brings you stright to an info and ordering page. I managed to get a 2gig chip with shipping for about $25. With the Snow Leopard upgrade total cost was under $60 for resuscitation.

26000 INDEX MODE: ANALYZED (RANGE SCAN) OF 'IDX_BV1' (INDEX).The row count varies greatly. But it shouldn't as the data is the same.
    Any ideas?

From DEV you show the Row Source Operations for the query. The column named "Rows" signifies the actual number of rows processed with each step.
From PROD you show the Execution Plan for the query; that is, tkprof was executed with the EXPLAIN option which generates the execution plan as of the time when tkprof was run. The "Rows" column in the Explain Plan output comes from the PLAN_TABLE.CARDINALITY, which represents an estimate by the CBO for the number of rows [expected to be] processed with each step.
So, if by <quote>The row count varies greatly</quote> you meant these "Rows" columns outputs then you're are comparing actuals from a database with estimates from another. Get the Row Source Operations from both.
    "Identical data and indexes":
    1. data may be the same, but it is not necessarily stored physically the same way.
    2. Indexes being the same means their definitions are the same; again, physically they are not necessarily identical
In other words, data in PROD (the way it is stored on disk) may have evolved as a result of discrete deletes/updates/inserts ... in DEV it could be, for example, stored more compact if you took a copy of PROD and moved into DEV. So, the number of blocks for your segments will likely be different between PROD and DEV, the clustering factor for your indexes are likely different, etc ... things which could [and do] influence the CBO. The statistics may be different.
I guess what I'm saying is ... it is quite hard, if not outright impossible, to get two identical databases/instances/load ... hence, don't expect the executions to be 100% identical, even if you have "identical data and indexes". By all means compare between DEV and PROD (make sure you compare the same thing though) and use the observed differences as an indicator for further investigation ... don't chase the goal of 100% identical behavior.
Now, by all means look at that query taking 1 second in PROD ... I have only addressed <quote>The row count varies greatly. But it shouldn't as the data is the same.</quote>

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • [RANT] Lack of sync between Sun sales channels and reality

    Hi,
This being a technical forum, I'm pretty sure this is OT but I simply have run up against brick walls almost everywhere else. If anybody can advise where I can direct this to with some positive results/feedback, I'd be very thankful for it.
We are small ISV shop in Malaysia specializing in applications for the banking sector. Up till last year, all our applications were deployed on Tomcat and I started a move towards a Sun-centric platform since the beginning of 2007. Development has had its challenges, including a nail-biting 3 months fervently hoping that Glassfish V2 would be released into production status before my first big deployment on GF was to be launched. Thankfully, the GF team delivered big time and we have had our application in the wild for the past 2 weeks. I confess to not having sufficient depth of knowledge in GF still and look forward to learning more but at least we're off to a start (and being paid for it).
Being a small entity and not being very familiar with the internal workings of GF, I had advised our client (one of the major banks in Malaysia) to take up SJSAS subscription along with SJSWS and DSEE which I had included in our deployment. However, that has been a story of major frustration leading up to this post.
We have approached no less than 3 Sun sales channel partners in Malaysia (2 of which are pretty darned big in our local context) and the quotations we got are simply not reflective of Schwartz-era policies. It seems that the price lists that they have still list SJSAS at version 8.1 and it includes pricing for a license component AND support component. I had specifically told our client that the production usage license component for all Sun software listed above was granted by Sun FOC and that they only had to subscribe to support. The channel sales reps refused to budge saying that "in order to qualify for support, you need a license; and according to your price lists, you need to pay". We brought this up to a Sun pre-sales consultant asking him to intervene and his answer was basically "what they said". I was speechless at that point and just asked him to read through his CEO's blog when he had the time to.
Right now, we're already in production and none of the software listed have support contracts. That being the case and us being the deployers, it goes without saying that when the shit hits the fan, we're going to get splattered. This is a ticking time bomb for me and I have no idea where to go next regarding this. I have been posting to the forums quite often asking for help and thankfully, all of youse Sun engineers who frequent the forums have been very helpful for the most part. There are still some unanswered questions though and I'm just praying that nothing serious comes out of those issues.
Ultimately though, my client still needs an official support contract and they are already grumbling that I made the wrong choice in a platform. Tomcat was opensource too but to be realistic, the community mindshare over there is way higher than that of GF's and most of my questions would probably be FAQs already by the time I think of them.
So please, if anybody knows how I can get some headway in this issue, I would be very thankful and feel vindicated in my decision to move on to the Sun platform. Most of you reading this would probably not even know where Malaysia is apart from some obscure references from watching Discovery Travel & Adventure but there IS a Sun presence here and this would be a great opportunity for Sun to gain official recognition for providing the base application platform for a major financial institution here.
    Thanks,
    Wong

    Hi there,
I want to make sure I understand your issue here.
So, what version of Application Server do you have that you need support for?
If you have SJS Application Server 9.1 you can buy subscription either by contacting your sales person or doing that online, if it is for no more than 32 sockets.. (This can be done online)
The Application Server Subscriptions provides you Software Idemnification and one year support - You can choose from Standard, Premium, and premium plus.

  • Performance tuning in BPEL and ESB

    Hi,
Any one can tell me how to do Performance tuning in BPEL and ESB.
How to create WEB SERVICES in BPEL

    Hi',
Performance tuning in BPEL and ESB.
***This is very big topic I can give you 2 points here
In BPEL we should avoid the use of duplicate variable, the best way to do this is, when ever we are creating a new variable
we need to ask can we reuse variable from inside the process, example when creating the input/output variable in Invoke activity
we need to check if we can use some existing variable instead of creating new.
All the DB related operation should be performed in 1 single composite.
How to create WEB SERVICES in BPEL
Not sure what you want to ask here, as BPEL is itself a webservice.
