Compare quality and features between aperture3 and iPhoto 11 photo books

Are photo books created in either aperture3 or iPhoto 11 the same or does one software program produce a better end result?

I only discovered my problem AFTER I had uploaded my book for printing. i went back and tried to create a PDF to save and discovered my problem. It had looked fine on the screen and I never received any sort of error message during the upload. I contacted Apple and they looked at what had been uploaded and saw that it was corrupted like my PDF so they canceled the order. I then went thru the process of rebooting in safe mode and tried a preview before uploading the second time. I called Apple again and they said the uploaded file appeared to be fine this time -- I have not received the book yet, but I am hoping it looks alright after printing. I experimented last night with making a duplicate of the original book project, then changed the template on the duplicate to Large instead of XL (everything else was the same as far as template style and color), then I ran a preview of that duplicate -- there were no corrupted files in the preview. It appears to me that the problem is not with corrupted photo files in my library but has to do with the size selection -- no XL books. When converting from Large to XL, the photos and their pkacement were exactly as the original but the size and location of all the Text alterations I had made to the original had been changed in the duplicate and would require editing again. This was the only difference in the two. Until Apple resolves this issue with another update, I suggest you either create only Large books and avoid XL -OR- boot in "safe mode" to send the XL book to print. I hope Apple corrects this issue soon because the XL books really are beautiful and it seems ridiculous to have to reboot everytime you want to purchase a book. Hope this helps.

That apart, yes, switching might involve rebooting. About the voices, well, I was the other day adding voice to a commentary in a video I was working on. There's only American English accent in SL — Lion I believe has British ones as well.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

Look at save_absolute_paths_in_playlists in your mpd.conf.

Google calendar times show plus 1 hour later on ipad and iphone between april and october

Google alendar shows correct time on the iMac desktop, but on iphone and ipad between april and october, they appear 1 hour later. have tried everything I can think of - no luck!

Suddenly my entire screen now has little dots on it that flash back and forth between pink and blue. What's up?

I was online (on Facebook) when suddenly my coputer screen developed these little dots--uniform across it not just in a browser window--and they started flashing back and forth between blue and pink. The computer froze up and I had to reboot. It hasn't gone away and it's terribly annoying. What should I try to do?

It may be a problem with your video electronics - possibly heat related. Shutdown the PB & leave it overnight. Then startup & see if the dots appear.

I have a 2009 MBP that originally came with a SATA drive. Recently, I swapped drives; now, it has 512GB SSD. In other words, you can easily increase the speed of a standard MBP. There is going to be an increase in general processing with the Retina MBPs, but the significance depends on the application. For example, booting Photoshop used to take just over 30 seconds with a SATA drive; with an SSD, it's just under 10 seconds. But controlling for the SATA vs SSD, the differences are smaller and incremental.
Ok you speak about a diff with the retina in term of better graphics when zooming but will this advantage be relevant also on my external giant monitors ?
I can't answer that, so I'll leave that to someone with more expertise in this area.

Uploading custom pages to iPhoto photo books

I am trying to upload a custom page with photos and text to my iPhoto photo book. I am a digital scrapbooker. But I need to know the exact size with bleed to make sure that the text and photos appear the way I have designed. Is it possible to find out the size of the photo books with bleeds?
I am using version 9.5.1 of iPhoto.

I've not seen that in iPhoto '08 - iPhoto '09 does have a thumbnail bug like that that has not been fixed yet
Try clicking on the blank thumbnail and seeing what it shows in the main window

Communicate large number of parameters and variables between Verstand and Labview Model

We have a dyno setup with a PXI-E chassis running Veristand 2014 and Inertia 2014. In order to enhance capabilities and timing of Veristand, I would like to use Labview models to perform tasks not possible by Veristand and Inertia. An example of this is to determine the maximum of a large number of thermocouples. Veristand has a compare funtion, but it compares only two values at a time. This makes for some lengthy and inflexible programming. Labview, on the other hand, has a function which aloows one to get the maximum of elements in an array in a single step. To use Labview I need to "send" the 50 or so thermocouples to the Labview model. In addition to the variables which need to be communicated between Veristand and Labview, I also need to present Labview with the threshold and confguration parameters. From the forums and user manuaIs understand that one has to use the connector pane in Labview and mapping in Veristand System Explorer to expose the inports and outports. The problem is that the Labview connector pane is limited to 27 I/O. How do I overcome that limitation?
BTW. I am fairly new to Labview and Versitand.

Thank you for the help. I created a simple test model and now understand how I can use clusters for a large number of variables. Regarding the mapping process: Can one map a folder of user channels to a cluster (one-step mapping)? Alternatively, I understand one can import a mapping (text) file in System Explorer. Is this import partial or does it replace all the mapping? The reason I am asking is that, if it is partial, then I can have separate mapping files for different configurations and my final mapping can be a combination of imported mapping files.

Thank you for the hint on using a Custom Device. I understand that the Custom Device will be much more powerful and can be more generic. The problem at this stage is that my limitations in programming in Labview is far gretater than Labview models' limitations in Veristand. I'll definitely consider the Custom Device route once I am more provicient with LabView. Hopefully I'll be able to re-use some of the VI's I created for the LabView models.

Install from scratch 3 times Mavericks but cannot used my restore it will just start for ever. After first install and restore mail and link between folder and files didn't work anymore. Now cant see my disk in finder. Help?

First install through regular update : never finishing the start after automatic restart
First install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only - Mail crashed each 5 inutes and asked constantly for password of my 2 accounts, links between folders and files not OK and attaching a doc was complicated. I downloaded the update same problems

Still struggling to understand why copying the entire root dir to a disk image and then restoring from that image did not, as expected, yield an identical system, and why I even had to reinstall after doing this.
Because there is a lot more going on under the hood than merely copying files.
The only way to do what you want is to use cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner.
My advice is to rescue your personal files to a regular non-TimeMachine external drive, Zero erase the ENTIRE drive and install OS X fresh and update, then your programs from original sources and files from backup.
Then, make a bootable clone and you can copy that as many times as you want and each one is bootable.

Drag and Drop between JTree and Labels in 2 different panes

Hi,
I am using JDK 1.4.1 and am trying to implement Drag n Drop between a JTree and JLabels with ImageIcons, both on different panes.
I got the DnD working fine on the tree. but i cant get to drag and drop the label from the other pane, on the Jtree as a node. I am getting confused with the DataFlavors, and also wonder if there is something else that i have to do for DnD between 2 panes. Can someone give me any leads on this, please? The Panes I am talking about are splitpanes.

hey thanks Dennis!! I was hoping you would respond to my question, as I have seen a lot of your replies. yes, the example you gave would be helpful. but i am trying to implement this in 1.4.1, with the new drag and drop in swing. and i am getting confused wiht theh data flavors etc.
my problem at hand is :
I have a tree on the left pane. i can drag and drop the nodes on the tree itself. (i already did that...no problem). I have Jlabels with imageicons (actually wrapper classes with labels and imageicons) on the right pane. i have to be able to drag these labels to the tree such that they form a node.
I have one class the NodeSelection class which extends TransferHandler and implements Transferable. i was able to do DnD for the tree using this. I customized the importData method in this.I thought that i can just use the same class to create the transferhandler and transferable, and just use a different implementation for the importData method if the data being dragged is from the label.
well, my thoughts and ideas were ok...but i can implement it...so they must be wrong ;-)
Can u please suggest another way to do this. I have a deadline to meet and am stuck here :-( any suggestions or tips or hints would be very helpful and appreciated!!
